Skyrocket i727 with Tmobile at LTE/4G Speeds - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S II Skyrocket SGH-I727

Guys,
I just noticed my SGII gets LTE Mobile network type at work today. Below is my what I have.
Unlocked ATT Skyrocket i727
[ROM][OFFICIAL][CyanogenMod 10.1 Nightlies for Skyrocket] Build 0609
RADIO UCMC1
You don't need expensive TMobile iPhone 5 to get LTE speed.
Good luck and have fun!!

Dallas Campbell, TX I think T-Mobile just have their network re-farm done here recently.
See HERE for the re-farm map.

Thank you. I live in Lewisville but my cousin told me all the Carlton area he was getting LTE. Do you also get 3g or HSPA+ because on mine i get 3g for sometime then i have no signal at all. i have click on 2g network only to get signal. Also which APN are you using?

Thank you. And one more question if i do this
You can use *#*#4636#*#* to change your preferred network type. I am using LTE/GSM auto (PRL)
Will i get both lte and 3g/hspa because i'm stuck at Edge but i know my area have good service. Because on my mom's iphone 3g it does have 3g signal it uses 1900 mhz

There messing with the 4g as I type this in warren/Detroit Michigan not yet strong enough to get a speed test. will update
Edit: here's lte

Sure you can get LTE/HSPA+/HSPA/3G(UMTS)/EDGE with that depends on how strong the T-Mobile signal is at your location.

Yeah. I tried everything but no luck. My cousin had lte on his iPhone at my house. My s1 have 3g/h on it running 1900 mhz. I'm stuck on 2g or just no signal at all

Does it stay on the Network type when you change it? Is 'use only '2G networks' option enabled on your Mobile network settings?
Try to flash to another RADIO and flash back to UCMC1 on CWM. If it still doesn't work, flash to stock AT&T ROM and make sure you can get other than EDGE speed and then flash CM 10.1.
Good luck.

Thank you. I'll Do As you say Tommorow. Eariler when i flashed 10.1 on this phone i had 3g/hspa but after half day i got pushed back to edge. After that i never got 3g/hspa. I have to check the 2g Networks only if i don't my phone won't get any signal.

That explains why you get EDGE 2 because of that. I suggest you to diable 'use only '2G networks' option and to flash [RADIO][UXUMA7] For I727/I727R on CWM to see if can get HSPA+/3G first after that.

Still stuck on Edge. I tried *#*#4636#*#* method but still no luck.

Sounds like you do need to flash the ROMs like I have suggested.

I'm on cm 10.1 regular cyanogen and did flash ucmc1 but still no luck.

Getting LTE speeds on mine unrooted and not flashed. On fast t-mobile APN.

Surprising to find a rocket still on GB !!! lol

Yeah. I notice that too.

Yea, looks like CM 10.1 should be nearing a stable release soon so I'll root it then. I'm coming from a HTC Glacier since the devs decided to stop supporting it.
One thing's for sure though, LTE tends to burn through my battery. I hope it gets better once it's rooted.
Did you get better reception when you flashed the i757m radio?

I am running Embryo 6.11 (JB 4.1.2) ROM using T-Mobile's SIM, and was able to get LTE using both the UCMC1 and UXUMA7 radios. However, the phone defaults to EDGE when outside of the LTE area, instead of switching to HSPA+/HSPA 3G. Using *#*#4636#*#*, my network selector is set to LTE/WCDMA/GSM. I would have to manually set it to WCDMA only to pick up HSPA+/HSPA. Then when I toggle back to LTE/WCDMA/GSM, the radio picks up HSPA+/HSPA. Hope this helps!

Force LTE to Edge/3G

Hey! I'm new to the forums and just got a Skyrocket this week.
I was just wondering if its possible to force the LTE signal to HSPA only or even Edge/3g?
Looks like the LTE radio is locked pretty tight. Anyone out there find a method to bypass this? I've tried the administrative menus in the Phone Information menu and even some of the Apps in the market LTE on/off and nothing seems to work.
Thanks!
Pretty sure you can change your APN settings to allow only hspa since lte seems to require the PTA setting. Look for the various settings and I'll update later if you have no luck.

I thought of that too for battery saving.
Here in Canada I tried changing the APN from the default LTE setting to the internet.com setting but it is still stuck on 4G. I didn't subscribe to LTE plan yet but Speedtest.net tests is still better on the LTE apn.
*#2263#* gives access to the RAT selection menu, which lets you choose to park on GSM/UMTS/LTE, and separately which bands (850,1900,1700,2100, etc.) to park on within each technology.
Unfortunately the menu is restricted on our current radio, in my experience with previous Samsung UMTS radios we will need to flash a radio that is not restricted (at least temporarily, to unlock the menu) to get access to this.
@cue_32 i believe its supposed to say LTE when you are on lte. if it says 4g its really just 3g (or 3g+).
It would be great if an LTE on/off switch was created. If the current radio restricts this from occurring would be a huge bummer. I'll have to dig around on the Development blog to see if anyone is starting to look into this or creating some kinda switch.
The TPC rom gives you the option to choose LTE or HSPA in the settings.

Force 2g. Is it possible and how

Most of the reason I rooted my phone was to be able to force my at&t Skyrocket into 2g mode. I get little to no 3g coverage at work and when the phone switches to edge (2g) I get almost full bars. I have tried cm9 rom which has a known issue with forcing 2g anyway but gave it a shot. I also had aokp with no luck. And yes, I went to settings>network>use 2g mode on both roms. Then I went after radios......I know at&t has a rat locked radio so I thought I'd be clever and try the rogers rat unlocked radio. Got really good data speed, call quality, and signal other than work of course. But still didn't allow the force 2g mode. Tried the *#2263# or whatever and it won't even bring up a menu on at&t phones which is understandable because its a rogers thing. Then I tried the trusty ol *#*#4636#*#*. Wouldn't do anything either. Suggestions anyone? Or maybe its just impossible....

You can force the Skyrocket into GSM-only (2G/EDGE), but your ROM has to support it. Sky ICS does, not sure about others.
*Edit: Just tried it on my phone, and it seems to have worked fine.

Greeting from Hong Kong.
I encounter the same problem. The 3G (WCDMA2100) signal at my home is too low (<-110dbm) to make a call but my Skrocket could not switch to the 2G network (GSM900 with -85dbm) automatically. I wonder if anyone has an apps that could switch the phone to 2G mode through the servicemode menu (*#2263#, 3, 6) and then back to 3G mode (*#2263#, 2, 6).
Bender mentioned that a Sky ICS ROM could do it. Please let me know where I can obtain this ICS. Thanks very much.

I was wanting to do this without flashing a rom. I am running stock ICS AT&T i727UCLF6.
I have the same problem where i don't get very good 3g service, drop calls all the time and would just like to force it into 2g mode while at work. Why would this be removed from the rom should be a basic feature.
Install RAT unlocked modem, *#2263# and picking specific band that is supported by your provider suppose to work. Tho it's not gonna work on CM/AOSP based roms. It will work on att phones.

Thanks very much. Flashed the Rogers Offical ICS modem found here. [MODEM]Official Rodgers..Release Modem- UXLF3
I am able to change to 2g mode only now. However i was wondering if there is a possibility of automating the process via an app, instead of using the *#2263# via the dialer?
For G only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 1900 I did not get 2g on this option but I hear from others that you can.
For 2g only: *#2263#, choose option 3 GSM band preference, Then GSM 850 Never dropped to G but has the possibility to.
For 3g/HSPA only: *#2263#, choose option 2 WCDMA band preference, Then WCDMA 1900 or 850
To return to normal: *#2263#, Choose Automatic.
I don't have LTE in my area but I believe you can choose LTE B17 from LTE option to have LTE only. Didn't buy for LTE but because it was the best device (specs) through AT&T at the time.

[Q] 4G LTE/HSPA+ on Net10 with Skyrocket

Okay, so heres the deal. I currently have a Skyrocket running CM 10.1 with the UVMC6 radio on Net10 T-Mobile SIM. I my home town of West Bend, WI I get H+ and decent speeds of about 6Mbps down. When I'm in Milwaukee, WI I occasionally get "DC" (Dual Carrier?) with some pretty impressive downspeeds of 20Mbps. I have LTE enabled on my phone but I have never gotten a 4G or LTE indication when in Milwaukee. Which I believe is a T-Mobile LTE area. So my question is if I switch to AT&T SIM on Net10, will I get 4G LTE speeds? It is not specifically indicated on Net10's site that I will, but they sell LTE phones.
Thanks!
It all depends on what net 10 (or whatever) are providing...I doubt those MVNO networks offer LTE from the patent networks at this moment, though I might be mistaken...That 20 mbps you get is HSPA+(DC is HSPA+21 x 2 = HSPA+42)...They sell LTE phones doesn't mean anything, most modern phones nowadays are LTE phones....
However, if you join T-Mobile(T-Mobile proper that is ) and in an area which is one of the official LTE launch cities, you can connect to it using the stock SR radio...
To know the type of network you're connected to, go to settings/About device(or phone)/Status

Thanks! I was wondering how I could be getting speeds that fast without LTE. Also, is HSPA+ is rated for 42Mbps then how fast is LTE rated for and is the 20Mbps down that I am getting relatively high for cellular speeds these days?
It depends on tons of factors...HSPA+ at 20mbps is faster than the LTE I get....The only real plus to the LTE is the excellent low ping latency...

If the frequencies are the same as Rogers / AT&T then there's no reason for you to not have it. Try doing more troubleshooting.

That's what I figured, I mean it's an ATT phone after-all so if should work with their LTE. But after some troubleshooting I discovered that my phone will not enable LTE for whatever reason. I will go into the settings menu and select GSM/WCDMA/LTE and it just auto switches back to GSM/WCDMA preferred. I am currently running CM 10.1.3 RC2 with UCMC1 radio, so I will try re-flashing that radio to see if it helps, but I don't know what else would cause this.

T-Mobile no LTE

I had trouble activating my SIM earlier. It did not want to activate when i did initial set up on the device. So I skipped thinking that i can activate it after set up. So for about an hour it would not connect to T-Mobiles network, then it finally did, with bad signal. All i am able to get is mainly 3G and H data signal, no LTE/4G like i am paying for.
has anyone had a similar problem before? Do you think this can be a bad SIM? Any help is appreciated.
Sorry to hear about your problem my phone isn't here yet so I can not give insights yet but will let you know if anything arises
Getting the same problem here, not getting LTE only H... this is my first time with a LTE phone so maybe my area doesn't have LTE, going to Uni tmrw and see if i get LTE there (which is should)

Yes. You can do a zip code search on there coverage. My zip is 37075 its got great coverage. I feel its a SIM problem.

T-Mobile does NOT have nationwide LTE so theres no guarantee that you actually have LTE where you are. Best to make sure of that before you do anything else.
And just so you know, their coverage site does not distinguish between LTE and HSPA+ since they consider both 4G.
No LTE here on a new T-Mobile account. My roommate has it on his S4. I'm hoping it just takes time to provision. Using fast.t-mobile.com
i get lte anywhere i go..im in miami
LTE is not a huge deal as long as I get HSPA+ its fast where I am. It shows Excellent coverage in my area, so yes I may not get Real LTE, but i should get good HSPA+ and cell service. Right?

Try setting the preferred network to LTE. No clue if this will work on a Nexus 5, but it works on a Nexus 4. Even with the appropriate hacks, I only get LTE in my area when I do the following.
1. Enter *#*#4636#*#* in the dialer
2. Go to "Phone information"
3. Change the "Set preferred network type:" dropdown to "LTE only".
LTE started working after about 4 hours after setting up my new T-Mobile account.

I live in Sayreville as well, same issue. No LTE. I'm assuming it's just the coverage. I'll find out on my commute to work tomorrow.

I live in Nashville, well the outskirts. I may not have LTE but the HSPA+ should be decent. Like I said above it may be my house. I get crap wifi reception in here so thats probably the reason.

Yep. Thats why you got LTE. Still Rolling out in my area. I am actually not upset about it. The HSPA+ is pretty dang good.
I've been in LTE since I turned on my phone. I'm in Connecticut

My N5 flips between HSPA+ and LTE pretty much without rhyme or reason. Interestingly, HSPA+ is about as fast down most of the time, but of course LTE is faster uploading.
