i have the bell canada gio s5660m version. rooted.
tried a few custom roms on this forum like giopro1.2. they all seem to install fine but 2 problems persist. both were mentioned here in this forum but no real answer i have found. first problem is my wifi gets connected when activated but onced turned off it wont turn on again. ive followed all instructions to wipe my data through recover or through the phone dialer option. did both before and after flashing with odin 4.42. tried also giopro panarama, simpligio+.all flash fine but the wifi still seems to be a issue. with regular stock 2.3.4 (what my phone came with) all conectivities work flawless. if the issue cant be fixed yet thats cool. next is when i used one of these custom roms, i try to install dark tremor a2sd script and gui app. when i get to the option on my phone to move dalvik cache to ext2 sd partition, it confirms it does then reboots but when it turns bacck all external non system apps including a2sd gui app, superuser app, titanium backup app and any otheres that arent system are not to be found. if i try to go on the market and download something (that is if my wifi is working\) it shows it downloading in the m,arket app, but never shows up on my phone. any help is appreciated.
MY main goal is to save limited internal memory. thanks.
I also tried using dta2sd with rooted 2.34 and it worked but same thing happened. all apps disappeared.
i apologize if the answer is on another post. i read through 15 pages non stop without seeing a soulution to my problems but mentions of others with the same thing or similar.

wifi not working ...this problem I think.. can be solved by the author of the rom
It seems to be a bug in that ROM
not all applications can be moved to sdcard
app2SD by The Darktremor ...this is a very good toolset I integrated it in a rom here
It's not very easy to use you have
-to made an ext3 part on sdcard
-your rom needs support for init.d scripting
-you have to run a script that will mount sd-ext part at every startup
It's not very easy you need a rom that includes support for app2SD

Hi all,
Sorry if this has been posted before, I have had a look but cant find the solution!
I have a HTC Desire HD that I have rooted using the AAHK, this has worked fine.
Next, I have searched around for a rom to use and found the Cibernodo Mod2Bravo V7.1 (English version) . . . I have put the zip file on to my SD card . . . restarted in recovery mode, wipe data/factory reset, wipe cache partition, wipe Dalvik cache, wipe battery stats, install zip from SD card, chosen the Cibernodo file and gone through the installation process . . . .
I have done all of this several times, and downloaded the zip again but I constantly get the same results:
Mounting and formatted partitions
Mounting /data
Mounting /sd-ext
Formatting /system
Mounting /system
Intalling System & Data partitions
Installing Gingerbread Keyboard
Installing Zeam Launcher
Installing ES File Manager
Installing CM/GB player
Installing 3DGallery
Removing Apps NOT selected
Installing Cibernodo Bootanimation
Configuring installed files
Setting permissions of /data
Configuring System Files
assert failed: write_raw_image("/tmp/boot.img","boot")
Yes, I am a noob, and no, I dont know much about this but I have followed everything to the letter as far as I can see ... is there something glaringly obvious that I am doing wrong?
To top it off, each time I complete this process a message pops up telling me:
Congratulations...
Cibernodo Mod2Bravo has been installed correctly on your phone
Click Finish, and restart your phone.
Thanks
Installation State: 1792
So is the 'assert failed' the issue here, and if so, how do I fix it?
Sorry to go into so much detail but I just want to see where I have gone wrong ... many thanks in advance!
[EDIT]
when my phone reboots it goes back to where I started from, i.e. the downgraded version of android from after rooting . . .
I will also try downloading and installing a previous version, V6.1z ...
Same issue with that version, so Im pulling hair out lol!
This has now gone from bad to worse ... I ran the aahk again as super user and busy box disappeared, thinking I would start from fresh again . . . there was a pause in the process and now my phone is stuck on the white HTC screen . . . anyone able to shed any light on this at all?
I've managed to speak to someone and apparenly I am not bricked and can run a ruu ... when I re-run the aahk it wont start as the error message comes up ... the phone is plugged in, the drivers are installed but I am guessing the USB debugging has been disabled . . . so does anyone know how to enable this from the aahk main screen with regards to the fact I can't boot into android?
Looks like there are lots of reasons for this... and it's a can of worms. Also, the Desire HD is one handset that my network has never sold direct, so I have seen one in eighteen months. I'm less familiar with it than I'd like... Just checking the thread and you're using the Desire HD, yes?
This thread degenerated a little and I think you've tried the chatroom too, but there are some useful pointers here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1646178

Frequently Asked Questions
LG Optimus One Device Family
This a short list of frequently asked questions in this device forum and the answers often given as a response. It should serve as a starting point for gathering knowledge and finding solutions to many common problems. Please only post in this thread with feedback on how to improve this document. Do not post "Thank you" type responses. If you have additional questions or require more help, try to find an existing thread or create your own. Do not use this as a general help thread.
Q1: How do I root my LG Optimus One?Rooting can be accomplished with Gingerbreak.apk 1.20 for most devices running stock Froyo ( 2.2 ) and Gingerbread( 2.3 ). There is also Z4Root and SuperOneClick for those instances when GingerBreak doesn't work.
Q2: How do I install a custom recovery? This is too broad a topic to cover in detail in this FAQ. Please refer to any of the methods listed below...
Install recovery with 'flash_image' binary or LGMDP
All in one how-to for rooting, installing ADB, installing recoveries, etc...
Install ROM Manager from Play Store. To use ROM Manager you MUST be rooted. Use ROM Manager to install a custom recovery.
Most P500 and P505 models got their official updates. Choose the Optimus One item
The P506 and P509 did not get official updates. Choose the Optimus One (OldBB) item
Device models not mentioned, old baseband models choose the "Optimus One (OldBB)" item. New baseband models choose the "Optimus One" item.
There is also my utility Android Flash Recovery to flash a recovery via fastboot and fastboot mode.
Q3: Why do I have to "trim" my ROMs?
The allocated system partition on any of these devices is only 190 MB. Not really huge. However since Android 4.0, the space required for everything has increased to a point that it will almost completely fill the system partition only leaving a few KB free. OOne ROM Editor is a Windows utility designed specifically for this task.
Q4: I've flashed ( any ICS or JB ) ROM and Google Apps. Why doesn't my Home and or Search button work?Did you trim the ROM prior to installation? If not, see question #3 above.
Did you wipe your /cache and Dalvik cache prior to the ROM installation?
Q5: Why doesn't Link2SD work with CM10+?
There are several reasons. There is an actual procedure required in order to get Link2SD to work properly with these devices.
The ROM must be trimmed prior to installing or immediately after installing on to the device. See question #3 above.
The biggest issue with Link2SD is the lack of free space on the devices system partition. I recommend a minimum 1024 MB ( 1 GB ) partition on the sdcard, formatted as ext4.
Now install Link2SD. After it installs, open it and let it create it's mount scripts.
Reboot device. On this first boot Link2SD will create it's symlinks and move whatever files it needs to move.
Reboot device once more for good measure.
From here, assuming that you have removed enough from the ROM when trimming it, the Google Apps package should be installed via your preferred recovery.
Reboot. You should see a "Android is updating apps" notification as the ROM starts.
Q6: How can I get rid of Link2SD before migrating to another *2SD script?
Link2SD installs scripts etc. in 2 places
/system/etc/init.d
/system/etc/install_recovery.sh
Delete both mounting scripts and delete the /data/sdext2 folder to get rid of Link2SD. For credit and more details please see this post.
Q7: I have installed CM10.1. What happened to the Developer Options?
On the device, go to Settings -> About Phone. Scroll to and tap on the build number 7 - 8 times until you get a toast notification that states that Developer Options are enabled. Press the "Back" button. A Developer Options item should appear in the main settings list, usually just before About Phone. Press the Developer Options item and then enable Developer Options with the toggle at the top of the page.
Q8: I'm running CM10.1. Where is the advanced power menu?
If Developer Options are not enabled, see question #7 above. Go to Settings -> Developer Options and enable "Advanced Reboot".
Q9: I just flashed a ROM and I have no network. What should I do?
All ROMs from CM7 and newer are built for new baseband. This is more than likely because of the wrong baseband. The P509 and P506 are old baseband devices. P500 and P505 devices that didn't get the official update are also old baseband. You can flash the old baseband patch via CWM or any other recovery to remedy this problem. Please see post #8 for the old baseband patch.
It is also possible the the APN for your carrier is either not set up or is incorrectly set up.
Q10: What is the best method for installing a ROM?
In my opinion it is always best to perform all wipes, even when upgrading the same Android version, although it is not really required when upgrading. The following steps are assuming that you are using CWM.
Boot device in to Recovery. If you don't have a custom recovery, please see question #2 above.
Perform "Wipe data/factory reset". This will format the /data, /cache, /sdext, and .android_secure
Select the "Advanced" option and on the next screen select "Wipe Dalvik Cache". Confirm the wipe.
Not necessary but I do it anyway, in the "Advanced" screen select "Wipe battery stats" and the confirm that wipe
For a clean installation I recommend formatting the system partition too. From CWM home screen select "mounts and storage". On the next screen select "format /system" and then confirm the format.
Press the back button until you are back in the CWM home screen. Select "Install zip from sdcard" and then select "Choose zip from sdcard". Browse your sdcard for the ROM to install and select it. Confirm the installation. Now wait for the install to finish.
Go back to CWM's home screen. Select "reboot system now" option and let the device boot. The initial boot will take a couple of minutes. Don't panic.
If you intend to install any patches or Google Apps, reboot device into recovery and repeat step 6 for each additional package to install.

Q: How can I get rid of Link2SD, before migrating to another *2SD script?
A: Link2SD installs in 2 places, /system/etc/init.d & /system/etc/install_recovery.sh
You need to delete them both mounting scripts, and also delete the /data/sdext2 folder to get rid of link2sd...

No. It's not meant for any specific Android version at all. This FAQ is still a WIP. This FAQ is intended to be a starting point for new members. It is not designed or intended to go in to too much detail about anything. Questions with lengthy answers are answered in short form when possible. If more explanation is needed, then a link or links will be included to direct the member to the correct thread.
As for what you have stated, I will see what I can come up with. Some of the *2SD scripts can be problematic setting up and require special details. Link2SD and Mounts2SD are two problematic ones right off the top of my head.
Thanks for the suggestion.

That "oldbasebandfix.zip" is to make a new baseband rom work with a phone that has old baseband. Check the thread for the rom to check for baseband requirements.

I'm afraid that I cannot personally answer your question. One note, this is not a general discussion thread. Please read or reread the OP.
Ok so I have a couple of problems with my p500.
First of all my phone, doesn't want to connect to my pc. I don't have a clue why, I think it happened for the first time a long time ago while I was fidling with it (can't remember what) and once it connects, my computer says that the device got disconected when it is still connected! I've tried to factory reset but nothing happened still the same.
Secondly the problem that I have is that sometimes the phone boots into emergency mode for no good reason.
It is running on 2.3.3 android and it is not rooted or anything but stock!
Looking forward for your sollutions guys!

This is not a general help thread. Please reread the OP. In this case you should've started another thread. But in any case...
A partial answer to your question can be found here
Sounds like the drivers need to be reinstalled on your PC. They should be uninstalled, reboot PC, reinstalled, and reboot once more. Power off your device. Attach data cable to device assuming its already attached to a USB port that is not a hub. Now power on the device and let the driver installation do it's thing.
The above is assuming you've managed to get your device to properly boot.
Best of luck.
Hello everyone!
Since xda won't let me ask directly in the relevant thread (as I am a 'noob' here), I guess here's the correct place. So here we go:
Does anyone know how to enable a hardware video playback on P-500 with Evoking 2.1 ROM (Skydragon)? I use Mobo Player, and in several earlier versions of Evoking it simply did a software mode fallback. Tried V-Player, but it simply crashes (as well as 'Now playing' and some other media-related apps in this ROM).
-regards
-p
So i Tried to turn my galaxy s4 to a Google edition phone because i heard it removes the the small lags the device has, but in the process of changing the OS i think i deleted the Factory installed files on the device and did not install the google OS.
so now my phone only shows the Samsung logo when i turn it on, nothing else.
can anyone please help me? or is this a lost cause?
here is what i did
-first i rooted my phone using odin, which i have don a bunch of times, that wasn't the problem, after rooting i installed TWRP on my device and copied the 4.3 google play ROM into my device.
-secondly i rebooted the device, (as the guide said) opened TWRP and did as the guide told me (Wipe –> Advanced Wipe and select “Dalvik Cache”, “System”, and “Cache”. Then move the slider to complete the wipe.) (refer to picture for more detail)
***** this is where i think i ****ed up******
-Now the guide asks me to install the new ROM and do a factory reset + a reboot.
However my phone froze for some reason and i couldn't install the ROM then it rebooted automatically.
now i cant get passed the company's logo and if i do go into TWRP and try doing any of the previous stuff it keeps writing these lines:
checking for MD5 file...
skipping MD5 check: no MD5 file found.
updating partition details...
E: Unable to mount '/system'
E:Unable to mount '/efs'
E:Unable to mount '/preload'
and when ever i try to reset or reboot, it says the device has no OS .
is it over for my phone? i really would appreciate it if someone could tell me Anything on how to fix this problem.
p.s.
i have been searching the web for the past 2 days, spending hours trying to find an answer or a case similar to mine, so far i haven't found anything.

basically your phone needs to be flashed back with its original ROM, so you need to first identify your exact version of S4 that you have to locate its original ROM, you should look here and post there in the Q&A section, when you need help about Galaxy S4, based on your version, you must clearly inform your version for other members to help you.
Don't worry you should be able to recover your phone by flashing the correct ROM, just READ carefully and follow instructions found in the galaxy S4 forum. in XDA

Hi all, I'm reading some things about f2fs vs ext4 and I'm really looking into it...
Recently, I've flashed a LOT of ROMS (CM10, 10.1, 10.2, Stock 4.1 and stock based ones) trying to get 'that smoothness' that I had some times ago, but it always started lagging 2 or 3 days after clean flashing.
I started to see things like this:
lotherius said:
...on my 2012 Nexus 7 I was having a lot of lag issues using stock/Faux123. It was painfully slow at times, even just waking the screen. I converted to F2FS (data only, not system), and the problems evaporated. [...] It was slow before, then it was fast. I had tried multiple other solutions prior to F2FS that didn't work. Many other users on the N7 2012 have also reported the same experience.

Have you find solution?
I found a tutorial (can't post links yet) that shows how to convert. You'll need the most recent TWRP for your device and a ROM compatible with F2FS (CM12 for sure is). You can use flashify to install the custom rom.
Boot into recovery
Make backup of your files (just for security reasons)
Go to Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Data > Repair or Change Filesystem > Change Filesystem > F2FS
I didn't tried it, but you can do the same thing with /cache partition
Restore your backup, if you did it
Go to Advanced > Fix Permitions
Reboot.
I'm going to test it and see if works.
EDIT: It works but DO MAKE a backup because it'll wipe all your data.
Will it delete all the files in internal storage?

Yes, it'll as we'll format the partition as F2FS. Make a backup if you have important data on there.

I have tried the this procedure on my tab 2, and was not able to get it working. I have done this on my old Galaxy Nexus phone, and it made a huge difference in the performance. I was really hoping I would be able to make this work on the tab 2.
I was able to convert the data partition to F2FS, using Android-andy's twrp 2.8.1f2fs recovery. Then flash CM12. But after a reboot, it came up to a screen saying "Encryption Unsuccessful", and the only option available is to reset tablet. When I choose to reset, it would reboot into recovery, the attempt to mount /data, but would fail. It would reboot before I could read the exact errors.
I tried several time to get this to work, but every attempt failed.

Have you tried converting AFTER CM boots the first time? Also, are you using the latest build? It can be TWRP's fault too (just read on a thread on ASUS) or maybe our device don't support F2FS yet.
I have managed 2 convert many ROMs for the tab 2. I've spent hours reading about it in the past. As far as I'm aware no lollipop ROMs can convert yet as u also need a custom kernel that supports f2fs. U should be able 2 convert most KitKat ROM s with the right tools. Its only about 4 lines of the updater script 2 edit then find a kernel that supports ur ROM and f2fs like agni, dhollmen or blackhawk. Youll also need custom recovery thats f2fs ready, theres a twrp and philz download around. pitty easy once you do it ab couple of times. Hope that helps u......
Are there performance improvements?
