Difficulty Installing Custom ROM - T-Mobile Sidekick 4G

I'm having a lot of difficulty installing a new ROM on to my Sidekick 4G. I root my phone using SuperOneClick. After that, I downloaded Quick Boot, Root Browser, and ROM Manager. I use ROM Manager to get a custom recovery image through CWM. With Root Browser, I copy the Recovery file and paste it to /system/bin and overwrite the recovery file that's already in there. I use Quick Boot to reboot into Recovery. This is what I did when I went into Recovery.
1) Reinstall Packages (Stock Recovery)
2) Install zip from SD Card
3) Choose zip from SD Card
4) I picked whatever zip file had the custom ROM on it
After the installation, everything is fine. Its says its successful or completed. But when I reboot it, the screen is stuck on the screen where it says "T-Mobile Sidekick 4G". I've tried different ROMs and they've came out with the same outcome. And after I do install a ROM and fails, I have to go into Download Mode and unroot the phone again. Its getting a bit tedious and annoying.

You did it wrong
Reinstall packages (stock)
Factory reset/ wipe dalvik an cache
Mounts! Make sure system is unmounted
Then install zip
Reboot system

HELP, unrooted my cap, with cognition rom flashed!

I unrooted my phone click "unroot" using original OCLF thinking i didn't need this app anymore being i rooted the phone using usb and one click root when i flashed the cognition rom. Now i actually unrooted the phone and i uninstalled the original oclf and the new version does not let you root. How do i reroot my device? When i follow steps to reroot it has a red screen when im in reboot menu, i believe it is voodoo lag fix gives me many option but i use the power button to select reboot phone since i do not know what to do. Please help thanks!!
hmmm. You can search for root options on 2.2. You xan asks back everything up and reflash the rom.

how do i reflash if i cant even root my phone tho? when i try to use one click root, the phone goes into boot menu but all letters are red, and talks about voodoo lag fix, i will try again and post all the options that the phone gives
Disable lagfix, select install zip from sd in recovery. You do not need root to flash a rom as long as you have clockwork recovery. The red recovery will work

ok obviously i'm still kinda new to this, i somewhat understand what you mean, is there anyway you can give me better directions in steps? I know you are using your phone, thanks for the quick responses. how do you disable lag fix, and the rest of the steps?
Disable lagfix
Boot phone to on
Go to my files app
Look for voodoo folder
Inside voodoo folder create a new folder named disable-lagfix
Reboot, you will hear the voices.
flash rom
Make sure rom is on your sd
Long press power button
Select recovery
Once in recovery select install zip from sd
Then select choose zip or something like that
Find the cognition rom
Select
Select again
It is likely when the rom boots voodoo will still be disabled
To re enable go back to voodoo folder on sd, open, delete disable-lagfix folder, reboot. You will hear the voices

ok i used one click root to force root file that i renamed, it then rebooted phone to a red menu, "clockworkmod recovery v2.5.1.3 - voodoo lagfix" options are:
reboot system now
apply sdcard:update.zip
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
install zip from sd card
backup and restore
advanced
voodoo lagfix
go back...
Can i select install zip from sdcard from here, is that what you were meaning?
Also on a different note, i have the xda app how do you get notifications from my post?
The rom works fine, so do i need to flash it again, or is this the method i will need to flash all over again to be able to root?

Ok please make sure the program you used is for 2.2. If so click apply sd card update zip.
I do not receive notifications, when I am bored and watching tv I am pretty much always playing around. If I am helping someone I am mindful to keep an eye out.
Edit. I love swype but sometimes the words it puts in there are crazy

As long as the root method you used is for 2.2 you should not have to reflash

phone works fine and rom is working, I just want the phone to be rooted, how can i do that, maybe i got off subject or didn't mention that the rom works fine just won't let me root the phone.
Your said you did the One click root. Did the program specify for 2.2

the root method i download was from a thread with video and instructions on how to flash a rom from 2.1 to a custom froyo rom. so if i get this right, your saying i need a file that roots a 2.2 phone? so i need to find in xda one click root for 2.2 right?
Well thanks for being bored and being helpful.
yes swype does put in the weirdest words sometimes
any idea on a 2.2 rooting file? or search?
my biggest bugs with swype are with the words "want" always come up with wasnt. and a few others but "want" bugs me the most
http://www.multiupload.com/02RXSWORVC
Try this. I found it in a search. It should be a download of an update zip to root froyo.save to sd, select apply update.zip in recovery. Make sure file is named update.zip
Sent from my SGH-I897 using XDA App
ok, just want to get this right, copy file to internal sd, rename "update.zip" then reboot phone to menu right? holding volume buttons and power right? then select reinstall packages? or will it prompt me to select update.zip from sd card
ok , to your last post, how to get into recovery to select update.zip?

P.S... also....I heared about "gapps"...what is it and do I need it at all? When is the official 2.3.x (gingerbread) coming from Tmobile? I just want GB on my g2x
make sure u flashed clockwork recovery via NVflasher to TRULY gain a mod recovery. I always put the roms I wanna flash onto my phone's memory and NOT the microSD card. maybe that'll help.
Looks like a corrupt download. Delete the zip and try downloading again.

Thnx for the reply. I tought I heard to have the ROMS in external memory card. Cuz, for example that's where clockworkmod backs up your nandroid.
Where do you place the ROMS(most roms have like 3 files in a compressed zip format.......i.e example.....the eagleblood ROM name is EagleBlood1.04.zip when u download it....inside the zip, theres two folders.....META-INF and "system".....a file called "boot.img" and another one called "installbusybox"...so where in the internal phone memory do u put the whole zip folder......?
put the WHOLE rom.zip on your memory. don't unzip anything.
+1 on the post above. redownload the rom and try flashing again.
after you flash the rom, flash gapps (this is the installer that includes market, gmail, etc.) You need it in order to get access to the market
Your steps should be as follows
1. Wipe Data
2. Wipe Dalvik cache
3. Flash Rom
4. Flash gapps
5. fix permissions
6. reboot
EDIT: and don't unzip anything. Place the WHOLE eaglesblood.zip file on your SD Card

They all say the same....I got them from the cyanogenmod website......even Eagleblood1.04 from here.
funny thing i noticed tho, after I tried installing a rom, but of course it fails, I connect the phone to USB, go to external memory card, try to open the ROM zip file, it wont open....says "X:\EagleBlood1.04.zip The archive is either in unknown format or damaged"
Maybe it gets damaged or currupted during the time its trying to flash the files to the phone???

[Q] Installing Bionix Frost on SGS4g

I have been trying to install the Bionix Frost SGS4G rom from team whiskey, but I am having a lot of trouble doing so. I downloaded the file posted in the original thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1119986), downloaded Rom Manager through my phone, then CWM through ROM Manager. I attempted to install the .zip file from the SD through ROM manager. Everytime I click the button to install from my SD card, I choose the folder and then my phone restarts and hangs on the "Galaxy S" startup screen. After about a minute, it starts up normally. I know I must be doing something wrong, so would it be possible for someone to walk me through installing this ROM (in somewhat detail)? Thank you in advanced!
I don't know specifically what's going on, but I just installed it on an otherwise stock+rooted T-Mobile SGS4G and it worked splendidly. Did you follow their steps exactly (emptying the cache and all that, and mounting /system)?
Thanks for the quick response. I never get the options to mount/clear because once I choose the .zip file, the phone restarts. I also have rooted, but otherwise stock. I haven't done much with it. Did you just put the zip file on your sd card and run from rom manager? Im not sure if there are any steps prior to this that I am missing. Thanks.

Use Krylon's CWM to install rom, do not use Rom Manager for now.
Uninstall Rom Manager, go to CWM Final thread download files and follow instructions.
Hope it helps

Ddang was right. I soft bricked twice because of rom manager.
Always use cwm from krylon's post.

I just boot into recovery. Then do it. I dont use rom manager but I have the cwm from it though.
more attempts
ok. i uninstalled ROM Manager. Then I went to the CWM Final Thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1099374) and downloaded the 2 files. I Used Root Explorer to overwrite my recovery file. Then I placed the update.zip file onto my SD Card. I just dragged and dropped into the SD card. It is not in a folder or anything and located in /sdcard on my phone. Then I redownloaded the Bionix Frost SGS4G rom and placed it in my /sdcard directory as well. I reboot my phone press the power button, along with both volume buttons to get into recovery. I get into the "Samsung Recovery Utils --for BML--, I see the options to reboot system now, reinstall packages, delete all user data and delete cache. But before I do this, I want to be sure I am on the right track. This is the recovery screen that everyone uses right? I do not see anywhere that it says ClockworkMod. If it is, I know I will have to choose "delete all user data", followed by "delete cache data". But after this step, how do I get to the options to "Mount storage and mount /system"? Thank you for all of the help
Click on reinstall packages ... that will load update.zip and that's how u get into cwm

Wow. i got it to work. thank you all so much for all of the patience and guidance. this was my first time flashing a rom and it worked great. since i was complete noob, anyone who needs any help with starting from scratch, i can walk you through it step by step. team whiskey, expect a donation soon.

I'm not sure if you got your problem fixed because I haven't read all the way thru this thread. But I had similar problems from what you described when I installed Bionix Black Ice with voodoo lag fix. I found that when I flashed the rom things didn't work right. My fix, after making a backup of everything, do a data/factory reset, then delete the cache, then delete delvik cache, then flash your new rom. After that, reinstall your apps thru the back up you created and all is good. I am using CWM to flash with and My backup root to backup my apps, files and what nots... Hope this helps!
sea, thats great advice. also, if you guys get any force closes, go back into cwm and go to advanced and fix permissions.

Recovery problem

First off. I havent rooted my phone before. I really dont know much about it but I have been reading what I could and am running into a problem. I downloaded this ROM:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1227075
and have been following this guide:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1220484
I have the ROM saved on my sd card but when I get the phone into the recovery mode it stops at a picture of a phone with a triangle and ! in the middle of it.
After some reading I read that I can hit the up arrow and power and it brings up another menu. So here I cleared out the cache and even wiped the phone through here.
the error message I get is
E:Can't open /cache/recover/command.
I have rebooted the phone multiple times and nothing has changed. what am I doing?
So did you do the adb method or via the revolution method?
It sounds like clockwork didn't get flashed.
Boot the phone normally and check to see if root is successful.
After its verified you have root, download rom manager and choose flash clockworkmod recovery.
Then reboot to recovery via rom manager or the power + volume down (make sure the PG05IMG.zip is renamed or removed from your sdcard with the power + volume down method) .
Once in clockwork recovery, choose backup and restore, choose backup.
once finished wipe data/factory reset.
Then choose install from zip
Find your zip file.
Install
reboot.
Rename your backup to remind you its the stock backup.
This can be found /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup.

ICS installation for HTC Wildfire S

Cud anybody help me with the istallation procedure for the following link..
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1683874
Really confused here and wanna install ICS 4.0.4 for my phone :/
0. Make sure you're rooted
1. I think you also need s-off
1.5. Download the ROM file, and the Gapps file
2. Flash a custom recovery, such as ClockWorkMod. The easiest way is to download ROM Manager
3. Boot into that recovery. This can be done by using ROM Manager, or some device specific method (search it)
4. Make a backup (use the volume keys to navigate, select and back buttons are different for each phone, but should be easy to figure out)
5. Clear data/factory reset. OPTIONAL: under advanced clear dalvik cache
6. Install zip from SD card, navigate to the downloaded ROM, and select
7. Let it install, then install zip from SD card again, but this time select the google apps file
8. Reboot and enjoy! First bootup will always take longer than normal.
NOTE: since you do a factory reset, its a good idea to backup your apps with titanium backup, and various other things (like sms and mms) with mybackup root
This is the procedure for flashing any non-Sense (lol) ROM as well
Hope this helps!
Sent from my MB508 using xda premium
I really doubt the Wildfire S to be powerful enough to manage running ICS smoothly.
Anyway, good luck!
Rooting the phone is such a pain in the ass wid the bootloader requiring as many as 14-15 software's installed b4 it can work properly and also crashes everytime!!
