Hi Everyone:
I am getting an issue with G2X that it randomly shuts off and that pulling the battery won't do anything. I would need to plug the charger into the phone in order to turn it back on. Last night I left the charger and I found this morning that it turned off while charging. Battery read 100% after I turned it on.
Originally I rooted it with CM7 Stable and the only problem was that whenever I called someone or someone called me, it sounded like a helicopter on the phone.
I flashed with NVFlash, cleared cache, all data, davlik, and then installed CM7 stable.
I tried it again and everything worked out great.
Last week I changed my room. NVFlash, Cleared Cache, All Data, Davlik, and installed HellsFire Rom with the CPU OCed to 1.5 Ghz.
The issue I ran into was that it drained power really fast. I ran out of power within 4 Hours.
I got tired of this and then I went back to CM7 Stable.
I began to have the issue where the phone keeps thinking there is no battery power and the phone keeps turning off. When I try to turn it on, it goes to the White LG Logo, and then Blue LG Logo, and then it turns off. I need the charger to turn the phone on. When the phone turns on it says "60% Power Left".
And then later on (5 Minutes at most) it will turn off, try to reboot, White LG/Blue LG, turn off. When it does turn on with the charger it will say "10% battery left please connect charger" and then it will turn off. When I remove the charger and turn it back on, it will have the battery symbol in grey with an exclamation point.
I thought I would try to do everything again, I booted into ClockworkMod and then it turned off.
What I tried after was maybe it was the Kernel. I reflashed and deleted everything, and then installed the CM7 stable rom and then TRINITY Kernel. The phone would not load on Trinity Kernel. It was stuck on the Trinity loading screen for like 5 minutes and I turned it off and Reflashed/Redeleted everything. I then reinstalled CM7 Stable and it loaded up.
I changed to a new ROM after it worked. I downloaded a new ROM yesterday, I am using Mokee Rom right now.
The issue still happens. Every few minutes the phone will turn off. Sometimes the phone would attempt to reboot and the White LG Logo comes up, and goes off, and loops this.
I have no apps on my phone currently.
The gray battery with the ! is there when I pull the battery and try to reboot.
I need the charger there to get the phone going.
Anyone have any suggestions of what I should do? The phone isn't even 2 years old yet.
Thank you.

I will try that. Thanks.
Same boat.
I am also having that same problem, I just bought a OEM (original equipment manufacturer) battery on Amazon will receive by hopefully next wednesday or thursday. i'm still using weapon g2x. I'm comfortable with it, after messing around with other roms a year ago. I just got lazy and stayed with it.

Okay so good news people, I received my battery on saturday june 15, 2013 from OEM4less in 2 DAYS!. I charged it up at 100% before using. I have not experienced any sudden reboots, or my screen going completely black, nor my screen only being lit up half way (yes it happened, litterally halfed the back of my screen was dim). I did experience my phone freezing but that was cause i was TEXTING someone back, WHILE commenting on FB, then I received a CALL, so total overload.
It has been approximately 16-18 hour of use, a total of approximately 8 hours constant reading pdfs, using fb, instagram, twitter, AND NO SUDDEN SHUTOFFS.
I HAVEN'T tried HOTSPOT, cause t-mobile be whining and *****ing.
I HAVEN'T tried BLUETOOTH cause I don't have any device that needs to use it.
So far the problem was the battery. I checked my old batteries VOLTAGE it read 4 volts, which is fine cause voltage can be approximate.
I did NOT check it's amperage levels which is strength or pressure of the voltage being spread into the phones circuits/body.
ill check later on the amp reading.
I have read online that its BAD to use your phone while it charges, WHICH i found out too f-ing late. BUT YES! problem so far fixed, will keep updating status on my phones behavior.

I had same problem with battery. After going below 5% it got into something like "charge loop", so I asked my friend to lend me his universal charger and then I bought the one I linked you, just in any case if that happen again.

When the phone goes full-retard mode*, it charges and then auto-boots and drains faster than it charges. It's the damnedest thing when it happens. You can't keep it from booting when it's decided it wants to so you have to sit there and yank the battery every time it starts trying to boot.
*Motorola has a patent pending on full-retard mode. Google needs it to fend off Apple.

LOL OMFG thats a good one man
um, youd prolly be better off just charging it up, booting into bootloader and reflashing the sbf appropriate for you
I already did that....its just showing a kid peeing on the motorola logo then bootloop again...
Had s similar problem (blackscreen while usage, then stuck on bootloop even after flashing stock SFBs) .. i fixed it by doing .. nothing. Just leaving the battery out of the phone a few days (one night was not enough!)
Ok! I got into the bootloader! But it said "battery low cannot program' but i charged almost 8 hours! With the buttons with light everytime i plug in the wall charger!

u have really activated the retard mode*, meaning the phone will boot up while charging and the bootloop is sucking the battery dry.
2 Solutions: Pull the battery, everytime the phone boots. I did that for 1-2 hours and it was not enough ....
2nd solution: buy an external battery charger

If you can get it to the point of Calvin Pissing and then boot loop, then the problem could be just that you need to Wipe Dalvik and cache partions and reset.
But I see now the problem is that you don't have enough juice. Try turning the phone off completely and then pull battery for a 15 mins or so. Then put battery in and plug in but do not turn it on. A battery icon will appear with charge amount. See it if goes up or down after about an hour. Think that if you can get it to 30-40% it should be enough to boot up and then wipe.
50% is the usual base amount for sbf flashing though, so might want to wait for that. If you haven't already flashed the SBF and have a working ROM in there already, stay on it and try the above. Would hate for you to wipe everything, including OR and Root, if it is only a charge issue and not the ROM itself. Check cords and plugs too.
thanks mate!! but im here in SAUDI ARABIA i have different card (
I've never had to resort to this yet, but:

This phone is just really, really, unbelievably stupid sometimes. If it thinks it's supposed to boot with minimal power, the only way to stop it is to do a proper shutdown (requires you boot successfully first or get into adb and run "reboot -p") or yank and replace the battery--that usually gives you about 15min before it will try to boot again. I used to just constantly wait and yank the battery whenever it started to boot. I got tired of that and got a second battery and wall charger pretty cheap online ($5 total, genuine Motorola). The bottom four leds on with a black screen is a tell-tale sign of full-retard mode.
are there any solutions? i cant do this myself ..... but thanks man for your help!

I did this once
It work fine
You just connect 2 of the 4 wire in an usb cable (you have to sacrifice a cable)
I gonna search a little more you have better pics with a droid i think
but you have to remove the battery. i don t know if you have too but it s less dangerous (the battery can t explode) and it s much more easy to connect the wires
I did this:

You just connect the red to the + and the black to the - You do your Macgiver so that don t move (i use scotchtape but you can see he is using wire...)
Really easy (more than it s look like)
I just don t touch the phone during the whole flash progress
But i read that you can charge the battery directly by connecting the wire on it (the same red + black -) you charge it during 30minutes and you have enough to flash
You can see it in the pic in the bottom left
But I don t test this trick i recommend to use the first one...

I did it with out a problem and i never do any electronic stuff or anything like this
Just take your time to stick the wire and let it like this don t try to return it (anyway you will see in rsdlite if it boot or not)
i did it man! i did it! thank you very much! you are an expert! i followed your instructions and it worked! thank you very much!

It reboot but with 5% battery and die
Now i can t boot anymore
Sometimes my led light but it never boot...
I hope it s only my usb cable or my electric plug that is causing it but i don t think so since i don t touch it when it stop charging...
I don t know what to do!!
It was my only phone...
The next day:
My phone come back to life after one night without battery...
Don t ask me why but this morning it charges like always....
I think its a motorola ota update... loool it s time to change !!!
The evening of the same day i plug it as always (it works well all the day) and not any problem
but this morning (the next day morning) my phone was out (black screen and not any reaction when power on or when pluging it...)
I remove the battery about 10minutes then i plug it and it works (it take about 1hour to start but the battery was totally empty so this is normal)
I m not sure what i m going to do right now...
I think the battery is the problem but i can t be totally sure.....
I hope the nexus prime will be release soon and worldwide...
I m going to try the new Mz CM7 and a battery calibration but i don t believe......

(If you remember the sellor......)
So I remember this from another thread yesterday and I had a similar problem. However my wifes is a bit different. Riddle me this. Her USB port is either not reading or not connecting. I checked her pins and plugged in my phone (works fines). I even went to /system/app/usb.apk and reinstalled. I even jiggled it softly, then wildly and then softly again to no avail.
Any ideas? We can take it in to CBW but man I hate that place with a passion. Would love for it to be something I can fix myself. At this point, i have to charge her battery in my phone and then swap them out until she either gets it fixed or replace the whole damn phone. I spent most of the night backing up her stuff last night (for some reason cannot do a nandroid of /system, data, cdrom, cache, cust or ext. Not sure what is the problem with that. She has 2.1 with app2sd script (much like ESB only not app2ext but rather app2sd)
This has happened to me a few times and freaked me out a little. Rebooting the computer (not the phone) worked, though. I think the USB stack on the desktops/laptops must get confused sometimes. It was even phone specific. One phone would work and the other wouldn't. After reboot both worked again. I feel myself becoming more and more superstitious.

Did that. Actually swap hers into my phone to charge it up and then put mine back. Sucks b/c she is a stay at home mom, so she needs her phone. Seems to me to be a hardware issue. Maybe something connecting the usb port to the phone. Short or bad wire or something like that. She's going to CBW to day to do battle.
if it's really a USB port problem, or lose contacts in the USB of the phone
you can always charge it with an external charger

Our carrier replaced it with a Nexus S, so I might be hitting you up for some suggestions. Easye420 mentioned that you turned him on to some things over there. I'll root it and unlock the bootloader tonight and check it out, then probably PM you.
The problem with ebay and all the internet sellors is that i will have to wait for 2 or 3 weeks to get it....
I will have to quickly go to Paris during the lunchtime (i hope i will find one)
For the info last news of my dying battery...
Now it can t boot with out being plug....
But when it s on then the battery always stay at 0%(I never see the 0 before my battery issue) even after 3 or 4 hours of charge
but a little bit fun when i plug it i have the battery charging animation and it show me that my battery is fully charged...
The end of the story...
I just get my new battery (a standard motorola the same as the stock) (cheap and very fast to get if there is someone having battery problem on Paris... let me know by pm)
and I think everything is coming back to normal...
I m not sure yet cause the battery% is acting weird but i think it s the calibration
When i first plug it it show me 50% after a boot it shows 0% but it was charging...
After another reboot it was at 90%....
My moto is making fun of me!!!
But i think everything will come back to normal after a full charge and discharge...
I will let you know

So you change it???
Did you make it work with charged battery???
I changed my battery and my phone don t boot anymore again
The first day i changed the battery it worked well i fully charge it and to calibrate it well i fully discharged it (until the phone shut down)
But now it don t want to charge again!!
When i plug it was booting at the beginning but after the boot it show 0% of battery and shut down after 10seconds
I test it 4 or 5 times and now it don t boot anymore
When i plug it sometimes it show me the animation with 50% of battery but it never move and shut down after max 5minutes (and now even this never happened)
I was asking myself about buying a battery charger like you say allgamer but i m not sure if that will work or if it s really broken
Now it don t have any reaction no matter what i try........
I don t know what to do i was waiting for the nexus prime but it will not shown up until at least 2 mouth (maybe more in France)
I think i read one time a guy who connect the power wire of an usb cable directly on the battery to charge it... It was a milestone battery i think (but its the same for the xt720)
Someone know something about that???
I m trying to recharg it only by connecting the wire to the battery...
We ll see... I don t have other solution for the moment (I try it before buying a battery charger)
I did this (bottom left)

After 1hour of "this way" charging
It seems to have charge but just a little (even if i plug it to the charger and not to usb. It is a lot faster when charging the phone)
I can boot it but it still don t charge (i was hoping it will charge again after the battery get a little more juice)
I have plug it another time i will let it charge for 3 or 4 hour it should let me boot and use it a little more i hope....
I had the same battery problem.
I did the same trick to boot up to flashing mode, and flash back to stock sbf.
After that, battery manage to recharge.

Mine don t want to....
I charge it for 3 or 4 hours and it boot without a problem (even if it show 0% battery again) I was able to go to bootloader or recovery but that s not my problem i just need to charge it and it don t want....
I think i m gonna buy a external battery charger. But that sucks it s about 50€ (i already spent 20€ for a battery...) and i m not sure that it will work...
What ROM do you have installed? I think some on the recent CM7's replace the charge_only_mode with a reverse-engineered non-motorola one.

I m backing up my old 6.3 right now...
edit i hope you re right but it don t want to charge even when in the system... I mean after the boot i can play a little bit before the system shutdown and it don t charge even when it s power on...
It s still booting (i hope i m not in a bootloop i don t have the battery for...)
edit 2: the battery last enough to boot but it s the same...
Im gonna buy an external battery charger tomorrow.... I don t have any other choice...
Hi,
I just bought a 2nd hand infuse 2 weeks back. I was using the stock GB for a while, and the phone was restarting sometimes. To fix this and get ICS features, I rooted and moved to the ICS CM9 ROM. Still the restarting didn't go away. I flashed everything before installing the rom. So, I guess this can't be an issue with either of the roms but probably something else. Also, when the restart happens the battery gets drained significantly.
After some searching, I saw in some threads that memory issues can do this or probably a bad app (I only have popular apps only though). I was wondering is there a way whether I can some info to debug the problem, when this restart happens?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
It might not be a ROM issue but a faulty power button. The are several threads on this. You may want to search "power button".

Hmmm, the power button seems to work alright. But if the power button is always pressed, I shouldn't be able to press it again and make it function properly, right? All the functions of the power button seem to be doing OK, i.e. menus pop up and it puts the phone to sleep mode, etc.
Is there anything more I can check to confirm that it is not the power button?
Is there a way to get a thread dump or any other log at the time of restart?
A few more details -
- I believe it goes to a boot loop when it restarts (loops from the cm logo back to samsung
- goes to a charge loop if I connect to a charger
- long holding the power button at this time restarts the phone and brings it back to normal
- I notice it happens a lot at the lock screen, but it happens at other times too, still to figure out a pattern

I have the exact same problem. Please let me know what you and people come up with.
Battery drops at least 4 or 5% after those random reboots.
I put liquid smooth JB on the infuse and was able to reduce the reboots to maybe 1 or 2 a day but the battery drain is still insane. from full to empty in 7 hours (but the battery usage says 17hrs, so please dont be confused, its really only 7hrs), texting, checking emails but nothing else. no music, or gps or anything that it intense.
The battery usage shows a constant battery drain, everything is at either 5 or 10% usage, except the screen which is at 42 - 60%

Any ideas?
I've managed to get some logs when this happens using alogrec (attached). I haven't worked with the dalvik kernel or android apps much to understand what is going on.
I hope someone would be able to go through them and pick up something. My knowledge on the subject is not enough to pick whether anything is wrong here.
Also, I noticed sometimes the battery drops from around 30% to a whooping 5% when this happens. So, maybe this is a faulty battery problem??

I ordered a new battery and hope that this will fix the problem, if anyone knows anything else please let me know. the battery is only 1 year old.
I had similar symptom (reboot followed by battery indicating lower) once when I had applied too much undervoltage applied.
I've had the same things happen with my phone.
1) the huge drops in battery isn't an actual drop. 99% of the time if you don't plug in a charger the battery will start 'charging' on it's own until it gets to the right amount.
2) just because the power button works doesn't mean there isn't something wrong. The infuse is notorious for messed up power buttons. There is a thread around here somewhere about fixing it. I've not done it because I managed to get things under control.
3) I've noticed that the reboots seem to occur more frequently when a large number of apps ( popular or not) are installed, or apps that are resource intensive. For instance I bought minecraft because my daughter has become adducted to it. Sometimes its fine other times it freezes and reboots. My solution is to only keep apps I use on my phone. I will most likely uninstall minecract until a later date.
4) For me smaller ROMs work better. The current slimrom works the best for me. Also finding time to remember to reboot my phone once a day no matter how it is running helps.
I'm down to a reboot every one or two days now. Unless I try to play minecraft. I blame those damn creepers. Good luck!

OK so my reboots were because of my power button, I sent it in to mobiletech and they repaired it.
Now it's fixed and I have not had a single reboot.

Glad to hear that. Thanks for sharing your results.

Hy! I have a HTC Sensation that won't turn on. The phone is stock, was never rooted. It has 4.0.3 original update. So this happened like this: i had 1% battery left. The phone turned off. I turned the phone on, tried to make a call and the phone just died. I plug the charger and nothing. The orange light is off. I have tried everything, but the phone is dead. I have searched on google about this and it seems like a general problem but no one knows how to fix it. What do you think ?
Thank you and sorry for my bad english.

Hi,
Try taking out the sim card and the sd card.
Plug the phone into the wall ,and leave it for 5-6 hours.
This is normal
Just plug the phone back on the charger for about 30 minutes and the phone will come to life again.
Best of Luck

I have just pluget the phone into the wall. Hope it will work.
Anyway...I have read another post here and one dude was saying about "instant death syndrome" . Is that possible? I don't really belive that the phone can break just like that.
It hit into charge mode when the battery is detected again.just the battery out of juice,no big worries

Yes. It has happened before exactly like that... strange I know. I've had this happen to me but was able to fix it. Here is my story. I had about 60%battery left when I plugged it into the charger. When I went to check on phone it was completely dead!! I had no charging lights anything! I happened to have another battery so I popped in the other battery and the phone sprang back to life! Very strange because it was a new battery inside my phone! You might want to give a new battery a try and see if it helps. As for the "instant death" the guy was talking about, what happens is that certain batteries have a trigger that if ran down too low they shut down and only special chargers can bring them to life again. I've read this my self you can google it. Now if that has an effect on our phone, I don't know but I've read numerous stories like yours and now I'm afraid to run my battery completely down in fear it will do this to my device. I hope you get your device working again. Do try another battery, it worked in my case. Best wishes
The battery is only 3 months old. When I bought the phone (from someone, not new) the old battery was trash. The new one is original, just like the old one. Is the first time it does that, never had problems with the new battery. After the phone died, i've checked the battery and had verry little power. I've tooked the battery out of the phone and charge it enough to turn on the phone, but it did not. Now the phone is pluget in the wall, as suggested. The orange light is off. Is like the phone is bricked and I really can't understand why. I had a Samsung Galaxy i9000, run out of battery, but as soon as I connected the charger turned on. Same with Galaxy i9100.
Keep the phone plugged in for atleast 1 hour and see if it starts to charge...
If it doesn't, you might want to try an external battery charger like this one....

Use ur battery off all the way (til it shuts down) then remove ur battery n press the power button without the battery inna cell phone; like as if u were trying to turn ur phone on ordinarily. Then let da phone stay still over a night, or at least 5hourz WITHOUT THE BATTERY IN IT. Then re-insert the battery n plug the charger n see wah happenz.
Hope it's gonna work

Thanks for the advice! I will try it right now!
i have this same issue..the phone started typing things by itself and i decided to shut it down and power it on but till date, the phone cannot power on..i have tried with other batteries but still to no avail..when i plug in the charger, the red LED light pops up for about 4 seconds and go off again. can someone help me out?
Can someone please help me. After the 5.1.1 OTA update my phone randomly shuts off (like pulling the plug off an appliance). I already did the factory reset and it still has this problem.
I have the same problem, and the only way to switch it back on, is to plug it in the charger, wait for the battery icon to appear, and then try to switch it on.
It shut off twice while I was using the camera, and I thought it was caused by the HDR+ bug, but it also happened twice later, while idle in my pocket.
Anyone else seen this?
Android 5.1.1, stock, Rooted.

Same
I have the same problem. For the last two weeks it only crashed when I was using my camera. Yesterday it crashed while I used maps and gmail. This is very frustrating and have made the phone useless. I'm really surprised this has not gotten more attention.
I have seen people say that replacing the battery has solved the problem.

The battery has been replaced about a month ago.
I've used all the tricks I know, (wipe cache, dalvic, clear data from some core apps).
There seems to be no pattern to the lock-ups. It happened 5 times since last Saturday, when it first appeared.

Are you running 5.1.1?
I'm afraid to update my wife's Nexus 4 to 5.1.1.
Damn 5.1.1
I had no issues with 5.1.1, so you all probably should just flash factory images through fastboot.
I am with stock 5.1.1, rooted, xposed+gravitybox, after a clean install.
It worked fine at first, the random shutdowns started a week ago.
What annoys me most, is that after the shutdown, the only way to power on the phone, is to plug it in a charger. As soon as the battery icon shows, you can power on. It happened again a few hours ago, during a photo (with HDR+), and I had to wait till I returned home and plugged it in.

I wonder if we have to wait for an official bug fix from Android.
I have this same problem, I did have issues prior to the 5.1.1 update with having to press the power button 2-3 times OCCASIONALLY to present the lockscreen and have it stay on so unlock (it would present itself and go off the first few times). But that was a pretty intermittent problem, and not that annoying.
Now with 5.1.1 OTA instead of that issue, merely tapping the power button brings up the power off dialogue and the phone automatically shuts off. This seems to pop up every other day or so. Seems like a pretty horrid bug. Trying a cache partition wipe again now.
My Nexus 5 on lollipop has been all sorts of problems. I love the new design and changes, but reliability is gone to cow patties

Xposed for 5.1.x is unofficial, even Official Xposed for 5.0.x is in alpha phase, so don't use it yet if you're aiming for stability.

Regardless, you all need to go back to stock, a fresh start, by flashing factory images from Google. I'm sure you know how to do it, so take your backups and go do it.

I'm going to run in SAFE MODE for a day and see how it goes. Maybe it's an app is not working well with 5.1.1 What I noticed that each time it shuts off ALL the apps have to be optimized again.

Safe mode didn't work for me.
My problem is not the same, it seems.
It happens one in every two times I take a photo with HDR+.
The phone switches off instantly, and the only way to switch it on again, is to plug it into a charger.

I have the same issue.
Started like a week ago while came back from M preview to cataclysm. Was very frustrating and made a clean install of stock, reboot continued, more accurately it seems like a reboot with the Google logo, and then it turns off.
Happens with and without xposed.
What I have noticed though is that it happens much much less when WiFi is off.
Any updates on this?
Happens to me too. Just shuts of. Not like a reboot... just goes of. When I try to power it on again it begins to boot, but after a while on the bootanimation it shuts of again. Only If plug it in the charger it boot completely again. (mostly with optimizing all apps afterwards, but not every time. I also noticed that when maybe the battery is at 50 when it is shutting down, then after I plugged it in the charger for like 5 minutes and boot it, Battery is showing arround 90% already. (can't be, right?... ?)
So I think it's the battery, Imo.
Tomorrow I will clean flash the Google 5.1.1 stock factory image to check if it happens there too. If so then I have to send it in I guess...
I'm on BlissPop 5.1.1 + ElementalX atm, but tried many things already. Once without ElementalX, once with stock bliss kernel and a clean flash after factory reset. I even flashed the 5.0.1 bootloader and radio again + the 5.0.1 rom I used a few weeks before where everything was ok. (ExodusRom) but it happend too. So it almost must be the hardware (motherboard, battery etc.)

I also think it's the battery. I will be be changing the battery soon. if there is any improvements after that I will provide update.
So today, my phone kept dying when the battery was around 40%. So I said screw it and got the battery replaced.
The old battery (on the right) looked bloated compared to the new one. The battery could have been the cause of all our problems.
