[Q] Thunderbolt wont hold Network Connection - General Questions and Answers

]On my HTC Thunderbolt, I have it set so the wifi is off and the Network connection is on. Even although it's switched to the "on" option, once I leave the settings page, the connection (either 3 or 4 g) is dropped and i cant access anything requiring an internet connection. When I go back into setting, the connection is on the "on" position. as soon as I go to access google play or My Verizon data, I no longer have a connection. What is up wit this? I need to connect.
thankyou to all who read and respond to this. Greatly appreciate it!

I get the same thing on mine after installed cm. Anyone know a fix before I try a different from?

[Q] WiFi No Longer

Is anyone else having issues connecting to remembered WiFi access points? When I first got the Sensation I was able to connect to WiFi at home and work but after about 2 weeks I'm unable to connect at work. I type in the credentials (its PEAP/MSCHAP v2) and it simply goes into a mode of constantly searching. Previously I had a Defy and had ZERO issues staying connected. Has anyone else encountered this problem?
I am having the same issues, although after browsing around threads I honestly think it's a Sensation problem
At home I have to be within 50 feet of my extended-range wireless N router or else I don't get any wifi connection. Forget about going upstairs or the basement. Even in the living room I have 1 bar of wifi max...
I am also having the unbelievable issue of completely losing wifi when turning the phone horizontal. I just have my fingers crossed hoping that when this phone gets S-off'ed, people are going to hack the **** out of all the problems and hit us with some incredible ROMs

I have a similar problem with PEAP/MSCHAP v2. I noticed that if i long-press my work ssid, input credentials for wifi settings and choose "connect now" it allways manages to connect.
So the phone won't autoconnect when I come to work as it shoud, but just loops over "connecting..." / "disconnected" until I perfom the above mentioned procedure.
My HTC Desire does not have the same issue.

Yea some Sensations definitely are messed up WiFi-wise. I can't even force connect any longer. Very upsetting. Time for HTC to get off their rears and provide us a rootable phone!

[Q] 4G mobile network still connected when Wifi is ON?!

So my phone just started showing this behavior like a day or two ago. It's doing it right now. Both my Wifi and 4G icons appear in the notification bar. The 4G icon isn't showing activity (the download and upload arrows are dimmed), BUT if I go to my "Phone Info" app, and go to Phone Information it shows:
GSM service: In service
GPRS service: Connected
Network Type: HSDPA
Before whenever I was on Wifi only the Wifi icon would show up, and Phone Info would show GPRS Service as : Disconnected, i.e. normal behavior. Now it appears there is a conflict somewhere and the 4G network is showing as connected even when wifi is on.
Now, I did make some changes recently:
1) Temp-rooted and pm disabled a bunch of bloatware - this was like 4 or 5 days ago and I didn't have the problem at all so I'm not sure if it's related.
2) I unchecked Wireless Settings > Mobile Networks > "Enable always on mobile data" - Thought it might save battery when in sleep mode.
I think the problem started after #2. I've since checked that option back on, restarted, airplane mode, battery pull etc., but it's still exhibiting the same behavior. I've never seen this happen on any of my past Android devices (a lot). If I go to the Quick Settings it shoes Mobile Network is OFF but it IS checked. It's really confusing. When you turn Wifi on, Mobile network should disconnect, but according to phone Info, mine is on and I've been getting "network issue, try again" in the Market, and "Network Communication issues" in the Speedtest app so clearly something is being affected.
This has been my ONLY problem with my Sensation thus far, and the fact that it JUST started doing this makes me wonder what I could have done to affect it.
Thoughts?
EDIT: Every once in awhile the 4G icon WILL disappear leaving only Wifi on, and Phone info shows GPRS service: Disconnected, but eventually the 4G/2G icon comes back and Phone info shows GPRS service: Connected, so it keeps trying/turning itself on even though my Wifi is connected. WTF!
If you're on a t mo device it's because of the my device app. Open and close it or end the process in system panel and it should fix the problem.
I believe this is somewhat normal...
I have voice only plan and disabled data through the *#*#INFO#*#* menus. The only way I can get data is through Wifi, which I always have enabled, regardless when I go to About Phone -> Network, I see mobile network type HSDPA.
It seems like voice is going through the 3G/4G but not any data. Not sure why you do get the 4G popping up, I sure don't.

Thanks! I tracked down the second package name for "My Account" (one is for My Account, one is for My device), disabled and rebooted. So far so good; Wifi is connected, no 4G icon, and Phone info shows GPRS service: Disconnected as it should. I had already disabled one package but not the other. I can live w/o the My account feature for a bit and I'll keep an eye out to see if the problem returns.

You phone will always connect to data whn using Tmobile apps such as my account app. Its because they need network data, not web data, to get their info like your usage, and billing. If you manually shut of data and turn wifi on and try to open the my account app, it will give you error.
Just because you turn Wifi on, it doesnt make the data shut off. It just connects to WIFI because its a stronger signal. It will still access the 4G data for netork required information. You can manually shut off mobile data and then turn on wifi if you want.
^This is true, I'm manually switching 4G off when connected to WiFi.

I realize this, however I was never trying to use the T-mobile apps.

Of course it does. What would be the point in having BOTH Wifi and 4g/3g/EDGE data on at the same time, all the time? That would be a HUGE drain on your battery if it were constantly using both radios and connected to/searching for both networks. When you turn Wifi on, the mobile data radio gets turned off. When you de-activate Wifi, mobile data turns back on. This is why you get much better battery life on Wifi because the 4g/3g radio gets turned off. Plus, both can't be connected at the same time or else there would be routing problems i.e., it would get confused as to which connection to use.
This is exactly what happened to my phone in that that both WERE on at the same time and it was causing no traffic to get in/out and I couldn't figure out why. Disabling the two t-mobile My Account packages solved it so it seems like
one was trying to connect in the background and couldn't but then froze the radio state. I'm not gonna re-enable the app to confirm but IIRC when you're on Wifi and fire up the My Account app, it either prompts you to turn off wifi, or it just disables wifi temporarily and fires up the mobile radio in the background, and re-enables when you're done.

Yep. If you keep the T-Mobile my account app running it will do that cause It needs the 4G/Data connection.

Right, but what I'm saying is that I wasn't running the app. It does run as a service though so I'm wondering if it was trying to connect on it's own in the background, though I'm not sure why. I haven't seen this behavior on any other devices including my Sensation before I disabled one of the My Account apps, but I'm almost positive at this point it was the culprit. Could be because I had only disabled one of them and not both. After I disabled the second, the problem went away.
Do you have WiFi sleep disabled?
If not, phone may revert to regular data until you start communicating and wake up your WiFi.
Just a thought.

Nope, sleep policy is set to "Never" and wifi sticks fine. Still happened even with screen on so wifi was def. awake. I fixed it by disabling the T-Mo My Account apps so I'm cool but maybe it can help someone else if they have the same problem. It's really weird, never seen it happen before. I wish I took a video of it before I disabled the apps. Thanks guys.

It's poor coding in the app. Nothing you're doing wrong.

Wifi icon not green.

I'm having problems with my wifi icon not connecting to the Google servers.
My 3g icon is fine and goes green, but when I connect to my wifi, it stays white and I cannot access any applications tthat require data connections.
Has anyone had similar problems?

This only happens to me when I'm using a hotspot somewhere. I'll have to load a webpage and click to connect. Only time.

I've had that happen to me a few times... just put it in airplane mode for 10 seconds and take it back out. Fixes it for me at least

Sounds like your router is not passing along the internet connection. Try restarting your router.

I get that on my home network once in a while. It'll connect to the internet, but not want to cooperate with Google's servers. Then 3G will work fine. Not really sure what the deal is. Probably some issue with Comcast's local servers, I dunno.
what mode do u use for your wifi? i was having the same problem and it was driving me crazy since i would keep getting errors like "disconnected" and "no active network connections." i switched from WPA2 Personal to WEP and now I'm not having problems anymore.
on a side note, does anyone know if i need to do something special to get WPA2 to work better and not keep disconnecting?

Every wifi network I use is wpa.
In the advanced wifi options, is your wifi sleep policy set to 'never'?

i have it set to never when plugged in. but if the screen is on, shouldn't it not make a difference?

it sounds like you dont have a data connection at the moment. check your internet via a desktop/laptop. also try unplugging your router then plugging it back in.
well my data works on my laptop and ipod touch - never with any problems. so it's strickly an android problem. but now that i've changed to WEP i haven't lost data connection at all today. the bars turned white twice, but i didn't lose connection like i did with WPA. very strange.

[Q] [HELP] G2x Wi-fi Issues

I'm at the public library and the wi-fi on my g2x says its connected but there is no internet. The signal's excellent but no internet connection whatsoever. I have tried battery pull & reboot but that doesn't do anything. Also forgot the network, turn off wifi, and reboot, but it doesnt work out either. Can anyone show me the steps on how to resolve thanks.
Step 1: disconnect from library wifi
Step 2: connect to reliable wifi

Well for one, are you sure that wifi offers internet access? Not every wifi has internet available to it. Next, how are you testing for internet? Some free wifi require you to open a browser and read a agreement of some sort before it allows you through. In that case just connecting then launching tapatalk would show as no internet, even if there is. Being a library wifi I imagine you need to log in first via browser.

I've had this same problem before. If you can rule out options like battery pull or any other trick then I would suggest using the wifi recovery app on the market (not sure if thats the name or not). It fixed mine. Well, it fixed THAT issue.

wifi connects but doesn't work

I have a stock Skyrocket (4.0.3-IML74K.CLE5) I am using as a media player. I keep it in airplane mode all the time with the Wifi on connected to my router. Yesterday the Play store started telling me there was no connection even though I was connected to my router. I went to the web and found I could connect to pages, but constantly get security warnings. If I click continue I can go on to see the page. Netflix tells me there is a problem connecting to Netflix. Voice search works fine. Google Voice tells me there was a network error. Facebook says it can't find a secure connection. Gmail says no connection. Zedge works fine.
I have tried four different wifi Hotspots both secured and insecure. I have tried telling it to forget the connections and reconnecting. I have restarted many times, removed the battery, and tried all the frequency bands.
The wifi icon in the notification bar shows a strong connection. And the little arrows light up orange and green to show activity.
I am guessing there is something wonky going on with establishing a secure internet connection, bit I have no idea how to fix it. Any advice is appreciated.
Q&A please

Sorry about posting in the wrong spot.
I have been using it like this for three weeks. The problem started two days ago.
Update: it works again. I don't know what I did to fix it, though. I went through every setting, and did turn off screen lock and unknown sources, bit I doubt that did it.
i figured it out, i had the same problem, the date and time were askew. updated them and it worked just fine ^__^
