u8160 kernel by TakisBeskos - Miscellaneous Android Development

Hello everyone , i've just compiled a patched up to 2.6.32.61 ( released on 10th of june 2013 , you can check kernel.org ) version of psyke's kernel for u8160 .
I am NOT responsible if your device exlodes or alarm app crashes and you get fired from work .
As i see , there is no real developement in u8160 scene ( or it is very slow ) , so i put my big fat ass on my computer's chair , and "update" psyke's kernel , and implemented smartassH3 governor ( it's still under testing , so smartassv2 is default , you can change in cpu settings if you like ) .
I personally use ac1953's rom , and generally i recommend gingerbread rom due to u8160's hardware .
You can download ac1953's rom with 2.6.32.61 kernel from here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/1y9y806kmmmmv4n/cm-7-20130612-TakisBeskos-u8160.zip
And you can download a flashable zip to apply on any cm7 rom from here : https://www.dropbox.com/s/l8wqknf9ac4yd1s/2.6.32.61-flashable.zip or here : http://www.mediafire.com/download/ajzzk2ntv4cmwum/2.6.32.61-flashable.zip
sources : https://github.com/TakisBeskos/u8160-2.6.32.x-kernel
If you like my work , hit thanks button , and go over psyke's thread and hit thanks button too , because without him , maybe we wouldn't have any custom rom for u8160 .
all credits go to Psyke

like i said in the first post of this thread , it's psyke's kernel , but i've applied some patches ( official incremental patches from kernel.org , and the latest was released on 10th of june 2013 ) , i ve set as default governor smartassv2 ( i think it's more battery friendly ) , and i ve add smartassH3 ( but it's still under testing , don't know if it's stable )
In few words , it's an up-to-date version of psyke's kernel

whats the performance of this rom? is it faster than slimmybean? slimmybean is pretty speedy. do you mean this is an update to psyke's cm7 rom or is it based on ac's cm7 rom (someone said on ac's rom that youtube did not work)

it didn't compile the rom , i compiled the kernel . i like ac1953's rom so that's why i am using it .
you can use this kernel with every rom you like ( personally i 've tested only gb , but it should work on others too ) . you can take the boot.img , and the dhd.ko and place it in every rom you like , then flash it , and wuala , you got the rom you like with this kernel .
i've done nothing to rom , you have to know what's rom , and what's kernel

i'll make tomorrow a flashable zip , so you can use this kernel with any gb rom you like

you can download 2.6.32.61 kernel , as a flashable zip , to work with any cm7 rom , from here https://www.dropbox.com/s/l8wqknf9ac4yd1s/2.6.32.61-flashable.zip

BUGS:
1. I have problem with calibration. After 5-6 calibrations I succeed with this.
2. WIFI signal is low.
3. Battery drain is like update 25a from joilaroi.
p.p.Almost all other ROMs are in section Arrow Miscellaneous Android DevelopmentArrow. I think will be much viewed if you change forum section.
still waiting for the download linkkkk
V3 is not ready yet.
waiting for v3!!!
I am using v2 right now , it is an almost perfect rom ( battery drain , and some wifi issues ) .Waiting for v3 hoping we have a perfect miui port !!! I don't know if that's helping , but on cas xp's froyo rom ( 2.6.32 kernel ) fm radio works , and works perfect
but for me..i dont care much about the fm radio..never use this app since first time using u8120..hehe..as long as it is fast, less buggy, less fc..

cas xp is good but slow ROM. Touch screen is not enough sensitive. Battery drain is like Stock 2.1 - 1,5-2 % per hour.
joilaroi ROM is fast, smooth, battery for update 20 and 26 is great.

of course fm radio is not the most important that have to be done when making a rom , but i think that the only problem remains is that , so why not to make this rom perfect ??

Studied & Picked up few sources from git's ... And just figured it out that every clock speed has been assigned a specific voltage so out of trial and error method i found tat the more i undervolt the system seems to lag .... So when i got a stable system i compiled the build.... U can also say that the undervolt is still in beta stage cause u never know if the scaling set is correct till u experience bugs but...so far so good i've been gettin a stable result :fingers-crossed:
But I read that scaling differs from device to device?
Just like oc, some devices can handle more, some less...
System lag is bad news though...
Will make uv pointless, and also the time I would have spent improving the way...
What about uv+oc?
"By the power vested in me, I now pronounce you, Man and Knife"
yup scalin of frequencies differ from device to device nd that is y i've used sources from tj_style's git .... i would still hav to concentrate on OC + UV together cause it needs lots of testin .....

MIUI is based on CM10. And its not upto me to tell if its better than any ROM. It depends on which ROM has features that suite the end user. For now this ROM is still in alpha build. A lot of things are still broken.
Lol , I was working on porting MIUI from Evo 3D . Its good you did source build . BTW can you brief me a little ? Its the same as building CM or some other steps ? Kindly provide a brief tutorial how you compiled as other devs did . That way everyone can compile and do debugging .
Thanks and regards
-UC
EDIT : It doesn't seems its a source build . Its a port , you should mention it in first page.
Many things don't work -
System ui
No miui launcher
backlight
torch app
...
BTW for all others who are willing to support and ready to work , read this thread and start porting . We all can work together on latest version of MIUI to port .

There must be something wrong with either these files
-Framework-res.apk ( wrong public.xml values causing problems to any of the functions in systemui .)
-services.jar ( maybe some imp base string might be missing )
--systemui.apk itself ( but less chance , or maybe resolution problem too .)
-Any other files , you ported you must be knowing . Gimme some more info I'll work a little on it too ,
- your MIUI's Base rom link ? Which device ?
- What you did while porting ? Replaced app, framework, fonts, media with MIUI ( after checking everything you found necessary ) and tweaked updater script ?
MY suggestion : I think its better if we work on another greater version of MIUI to port . Its a very appreciable effort of yours to atleast give kind attention to MIUI also . I think making things work on this port won't be that hard but if same amount of work given on latest version that will be more good . :good:

First will try with MIUI version 3.4.12 - 3.3.x . Those are also based on 4.1.2 and are latest . I'll link you to some good device's source build .
EDIT : [ROM] MIUI v5 3.4.12 - OR - Unofficial MIUI V5(See nexus S link) What you say ? . I personally Prefer both . Sensation's build because its chipset will be similar to ours (quallcomm) and Nexus S for same resolution , though resolution isn't a big deal i think :/ through MIR we can resize framework-res.apk and rest the needful apps will be resized . But since you successfully made nexus S build boot , I think we should go with that ? What you say ?

i think there is no need of cm 7.2 as we have cm 10.1 and cm 10 and may be we will get cm 10.2 also

cm7.2 ? That's amazing news. I tried to port it but it didn't work out as I expected. Good luck with building @loxdegio

Yes! Everything is stable and tested for some day before to be released (it's the aim of Test Builds ) But I have to manipulate directly code in sources in order to apply UV 'cause our device platform doesn't have the voltage controller
If I made mistakes i'm sorry, but i haven't practised my English for 3 years (4 this year) I'm a little rusty

there you go
and i would like to report that with this kernel i m getting real slow int connection almost nothing by the way that your rom Aces_Droid_Plus is an art peace :good:
so... this works with any GB based ROM?
and are there any bugs?
P.S. well im testing it now with inspiration v17.1 and it works very well... but there is a big problem. Some apps that require SuperUser acces just don't work; for example "Seeder" app from that rom asks for permission but the app says the device could not be rooted properly. For the moment is the only app that has this problem with this kernel but there could be more

Well the problem is only with this app and i found somenthing in the "Seeder's" thread.
some people have the same problems using custom kernels and a guy says that the kernel developer has to make a frandom fix.
well i don't know what is that so i can fix it myself
Does this kernel have any bugs?

i am on 6/1/2014 maclow built modified this built and flashed via cwm recovery every thing is ok all frequencies are working well
have u modified voltage control i think its a major thing with oc kernel that causes freezing and crashing well u should follow all steps with older version of maclaws rom i. e 6/01/2014

IT also depends on your device . Some people have reboots some don't
I don't have reboots too

So just do the same but then with the 6-1-2014 built?
EDIT: When I keep processor and I/O standard and mhz at 1.0, I have no reboots as far as I see now.

I did exactly what u said, and it works. but my phone keep rebooting!!! what's the problem??!!
First, the AOSP rom is not just by albertop97, he have done most of work, but by the J-Team. Is like to say tha cm 11 are from paul l. or Rox and that's not from Team Canjica.
The oc kernel you have linked is not from cocafe, but from albertop97 and so from J-Team.

I think its oC kernel problem with some specific built roms .I used this method on cm11 by maclaw 6/1/14 built and it worked while some other users says oc kernel not working on mc11 but there builts are different I.e they are using 21/1 built again aosp ROM also unstable on oC kernel ROM gets reboots every time.
now I am using this method on beanstalk ROM and voila it worked again oc kernel working correctly no reboot at all I think u should give this try on beanstalk ROM by iidax

Can you use all governers? Without getting reboots? And how is the performance compared with your previous ROM (cm11) with oc?

ya I can use all governors without reboot but Io schelduler goes back to cfq as default scheduler
performance is some what lower than mc 11 as this result clearly shown by benchmark I.e for beanstalk quadrant is 4000 while for mc 11 4200
