I did some mod to a phone (Galaxy Chat B5330) which is a crt mod.
I know I did it good enough.. just modifying the framework-res.apk
My problem is.. is the phone not really rendering the effect?
The screen just disappears (without any fade effects or crt). I guess in that case I have modded framework-res perfectly.
Transition/Window animations are already set to 1x
Another thing, there's not too much about gpu on build.prop. I can't even find #debug.sf.hw. Even so, that line should still work if it doesn't have a comment (in the case of my s duos)
Is this phone supports the crt effect?
thank you!

I'm sure everyone has by now seen the cool animation that Gingerbread uses when the screen is turned off. What if the same animation was played in reverse when turning the screen on? Is such a thing even possible? To me it does seem a bit strange that this animation is only played when turning the screen off, because real CRT's used to do the same thing both when turning on and turning off.
If it is possible, I'd love to see it implemented. Further on down the line as an added bonus, I also think it'd be cool to replace the animation for launching or closing an app with a CRT style flicker, similar to what happened when you changed the channel on an old TV.
Edit: Looks like most custom ROMs are already way ahead of me for the screen on animation. Good work!
This is on CM7...
(except its really not as good as you'd think)

LeoGinger v0.8.4 has this implemented for both screen OFF and screen ON animations. Here is the link for ROM if you want to flash it and check it out: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=10518585&postcount=1
Okay, that's cool that CM7 has it. What about other CRT style animations for the transitions? Something similar to the Pip Boy 3000 from Fallout 3 would be awesome.

I think he/she meant lies in that it is cool, as in so cool he turned the screen on and off repeatedly to watch it.

[BUG] No CRT Lock animation if "Window Transition" in Spare Parts is "Fast"
I don't think I can be much more clear than the title. I just installed Apex 6.4, and went to change the speed of the phone's animations to how I like them using the Spare Parts app. Now, I can set the Transition Animation to however I like with no ill effects. However, changing the "Window Animation" causes the CRT-Off animation to stop working whenever you lock the phone.
I realize this is a terribly minor issue, but I didn't find the Spare Parts thread, and I apologize if this is in the wrong section
and the screen on effect will be affected by the transition speed.....

Your problem is that the animation for screen off only works at one speed. If you change the speed it no longer will work right. That app was made before the animation was added so it might not work with it. So you can either leave them or lose the screen off.
I changed the speeds to "fast" and lost the animation.
I wondered how i lost that feature. Thanks!
Hi All,
I have looked around for a similar problem but could not find anything.
I have a problem with my screen on my HTC Sensation. I was using Virtuous ROM but when this started happening, I wiped with superscript and switched to Insertcoin ROM and the problem actually became worse.
When I lock my phone with the Power button, instead of the screen turning black instantly, the bottom and top of the screen slide up and meet in the middle (like a transition that you put inbetween chapters in a home made movie).
The same happens when I unlock the phone.. and it's very annoying and of course very slow.
I can't work out if it's hardware or not. I just recently edited the build.prop file (only removed the '#' from the screen capture line- which worked, didn't touch anything else)... and now when I unlock, the font and app icons seem a little enlarged and blurry.. then once I slide between screens and back it goes to normal.
I'm a noobie and would appreciate the help.
Thanks
Ginox
I always thought is was on purpose
No, this is very exaggerated and slow. Usually the phones screen goes off reasonably quick when you lock the phone (and vice versa with unlocking).
It sounds like you are describing the CRT animation for locking and unlocking, like an old TV turning on/off. Some ROMs include this by default. If the phone is running slow/sluggish it can look poor and cause other issues like the funky looking icons.

Hmm, it doesn't seem like that kind of problem... my phone runs reasonable fast.
Here's a video of it:

Yup, thats the CRT animation, that's what its supposed to do. It must have been included with a ROM you installed by default. Like I said, its meant to look like you are turning on or off and old tube type television or computer monitor. Someone might have a flashable file out there for you to remove it, I don't know. At least now you can search "remove CRT animation" or something and see what you can get.

Oh really, thats interesting as I was pretty sure it done something similar on the previous Virtuous Rom.
Does anyone else out there have this feature on their Insertcoin ROM? (I've only ever had stock, Virtuous and Insertcoin).
I will have a search but if anyone knows the fix, please let me know
Sorry, there is no need for this poll.
The issue is that the fix for broken crt animation causes the screen-off flash on amoled.
Edit: fixed
Crt is the animation that looks like the old tv? Please do not fix and make sure the screen does not flash. That's really annoying!

Well this seems like an odd problem I'm having. The CRT animation that is displayed when you turn off the screen is sort of broken. What do I mean? It seems a lot less fluid. I'm running Cataclysm and I can confirm that CRT is definitely on, but the animation is either skipping a lot of frames or incredibly sped up for some reason. Any possible reasons or solutions?
Thanks in advanced.
