I do not recommend this kickstand case. - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

In an effort to find a kickstand that is stable in both orientations (horizontal & landscape), I tried this case out:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370796669323?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649
First, the plastic is incredibly cheap.
Second, the soft part of the case is fairly loose fitting.
Third, the hard shell part of the case is warped at the bottom so it doesn't fit the phone snugly.
Fourth, the kickstand is held in place by two TINY pieces of plastic nubbies and one of them broke the second time I used the case.
Darn thing didn't even make it an hour before it broke on me.
Otherwise, it was the most stable kickstand case I've found yet (not awesome, but okay). Actually, the only stable one. Now if they can just re-make the case so it actually lasts awhile longer and fits the phone.

Yeah i bought this case as soon as I bought my S3 last year from a case stand at the mall. Total crap. Payed $20 for it.

I ordered this case recently:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CI8PTNA/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And while I haven't got it yet for my s4, I did have one for the s3 and for my droid razr and it works exceptionally well IMO.
I don't use the belt clip, and probably never would. It has the small TINY nubbies holding it in place but they're sturdy enough for how I use the phone.
My wife has this on her s3, and the kickstand is much more sturdy.

I have that case and for the price, it's well built. I've had mine for two months. The same case is reproduced with different styles for various mfg's. Mine is I-Blason and I got it from Amazon.
But it's not a stable kickstand. If I put the phone on the kickstand in portrait mode, all I have to do is slap the table and the damn phone falls backwards. It's almost as unstable as all the other kickstand cases out there. You just cant tap at the screen in portrait OR horizontal modes without the darn phone tipping over.
This cheapy eBay one I'm hating on is actually more stable in kickstand mode. Too bad it's so poorly made otherwise.
The second case you mentioned will only work in portrait mode.

I had the black version of this Qmadix kickstand for my S3 and it was incredibly stable in both horizontal and portrait modes. But they won't make it for the S4. I already asked.

Vertically it is pretty terrible I agree but I never had a problem horizontally. And I only use it for that. I never really had a reason to use the phone vertically on a stand and I don't know of any design I can think of that would do it well.
I assume you meant the second one I mentioned will only work in landscape mode.

Horizontal = landscape.
Yeah, take that first case and put it into landscape and then tap the top left corner and you'll see your phone tip right on over.

oh, yeah i can see that. I'll be able to try it out when I get it in a few days.

Here's a pic of the case and the little plastic nub that's "supposed to hold the kickstand in place".

[Photos] The hard rubber case I got from ebay

Update: I dont recommend you get this, the gel one at the bottom of this post is decent.
Finally recieved my case: "Black Rubber Hard Cover Case For Google HTC Nexus One" Link to store/ebay.
Pros:
1) cost: $3.55 shipped
2) fits better in my hand. The phone was too thin and slippery earlier
3) still fits in the sleeve. Very tight fit. Update: don't need/use the sleeve anymore.
Cons:
1) The edge where the two halves snaps together is not as seamless as I hoped. Not too visible but you can feel the sharp edges when you hold it.
2) Its harder than I expected. It wont provide much shock-cushioning if I drop it.
3) Shipping took 20 days.
Update: 5/7/10
-Dropped it a few times after using it and it protected the phone. The case splits open when dropped.
-I don't feel/hear the "clink" sound the uncovered phone makes when placed on hard surfaces.
-I'm saving a lot of time by not using the sleeve. The sleeve is not needed with this. (I have a screen protector too)
-The grip of the phone is excellent.
Update: 6/2/10
- the smooth finish on the case is just a thin layer. underneath is brittle, shiny black plastic.
- my case has lost a piece on the top right and that part does not hold together very well. Maybe one of the drops cracked it..
- ordered a gel case from amazon. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B003343AR0
nice. I have one something like this but it doesnt come up so much to the trackball.
Two reasons I will never consider putting my N1 in such a case:
Poor heat dissipation. The phone can get warm with heavy use. In a rubber case it WILL get hot, especially during warm weather. Add to that the confines of a pocket and trouble can easily follow. The screen can crack from heat alone, without any external pressure.
It won't fit into the car dock.

1) So it underclocks the CPU when it gets too hot? Nice, I never thought of doing that with SetCPU.
2) I should've been more specific. It wouldn't fit into the Google's official Car Dock. I paid $55 for that thing, so I'll be damned if I don't use if because of a case
yes it underclocks when it gets hot.
I understood what you meant, thats why I used "mount" instead of dock

Of course you can use it, all you have to do is remove the case. When you are done put the case back on the phone. It may "seem" like a lot of work but it really isn't not that bad at all.
I will never understand why people insist on putting hideous ugly cases on their slim and sexy phones. The iPhone suffers from this and so does the Nexus.
You DO realize these phone are designed and tested to be carried as is, right?
Cases are worthless and make your phone ugly and bulky :-\

ROFL!
GldRush98, I also hate putting stuff on the phone for "safety" purposes, but you gotta do it for resell/longevity purposes. I got the case-mate gelli one, but that rubber one of yours looks nicer britoso. On second though, nah!
I absolutely hate having to use a case and a screen protector, but I do it for the resale value. My blackberry got trashed and a case and screen protector would have netted me $300+ for resale.
I believe its even more important for the N1. IMO the N1 will hold more value for longer than your average smart phone. Although I have no data to back that up.

I have ACCIDENTALLY dropped 2 iphones and shattered screens in 3 yrs with NO case. Both times it was in my lap when i got out of the car. Both times i had a case for it, but wanted the sexiness that particular day. Not a long drop at all. After putting an ugly bulky otter box on it, i've actually thrown it across the room numerous times to show how durable it is. I do agree they are sexy without the case. But sometimes a hideous case to save yourself a few hundred bucks (or more) is a great idea. To say you could "never understand why" and "Cases are worthless" insinuates you might be quite slow and need descriptive answers or examples so you CAN "understand why." understand now? oh and some cases are actually quite sexy, otterbox NOT being one of them. Case-Mate has some nice ones with different color rubber inserts. 3 people today told me my phone matched my shirt lol

Cases / Shells - what're you getting / reviews:

Ultimately I settled on the trident case, pictures in this post. Thanks to gtny930 for finding it for us.
There are some other good case recommendations scattered through the thread, as I get the time I will source them up here for easier reference.

Hey all, i've been searching amazon off and on for cases for our wonderful device, and finally pulled the trigger on one:
Link here
Says it's by HTC, and I ordered from BlueMall, at $0.32 I couldn't not get it...
Rubberized case, two pieces to fit the slide function, looks like a winner.
I doubt it'll be as good as an otterbox as far as protection, but a buddy of mine has an otterbox for his Inspire 4G - and suffers from serious overheating problems. Since our phone already suffers from that with the stock battery i'm gonna pass otterbox by on this phone. (Anker 1900 battery solved overheating problems for me)
Anyways, at less then $3.50 shipped, seemed like a fantastic deal.
Meantime, I have a screen protector and bodyglove on it now, which seems to be a good temporary fix until some proper protection was available. Love the glove, but to me it's only a temporary solution.
What're the rest of you doing for a case or protection for your phone? I'd love to hear about it.
ArmorSuit and HTC Messenger
I got this:
http://www.amazon.com/ArmorSuit-MilitaryShield-Protector-T-Mobile-REPLACEMENTS/dp/B0058XMYDU/ref=sr_1_3?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1314661800&sr=1-3
I posted "customer pics" of what is looks like on my phone too at Amazon.
I'm coming from the G1 and was used to the G1 sleeve so I also bought this:
http://www.amazon.com/HTC-Messenger-Pouch-HD2/dp/B003DZ13OG/ref=sr_1_1?s=wireless&ie=UTF8&qid=1314661896&sr=1-1
It's a nice fit and doesn't stick out the top.
As a side note.. I also bought the case you posted. I like it but it won't fit over the ArmorSuit and I really like how the suit looks and feels on the MT4GS. The phone with suit fits well in the pouch...good combo in my opinion.
Found this on Ebay. Still waiting for it (and MT4GS) to come. =[

MT4GS Cases / Shells
The rubberized hard Body Glove shells offered by T-Mobile (and sold on Amazon, eBay, etc...) are bulky and are missing holes for the microphone above the camera lens. I ended up buying the full body Invisible Shield and it looks great. The only problem is that they didn't include a piece for the bottom front of the phone (under the buttons and around the touchpad). I can put a hard case over the shield if I want, for extra protection or to just change up the look.
I have the solid black case. Just some things to note. First, the back piece is very tight, and I don't think it will ever fall off. However, when removing and replacing the cover, the clips can easily scratch your phone. Second, one or two clips may not actually "clip" to the phone, but rather just get stuck near the top so it still holds from pressure. This really isn't noticeable, but it leaves indents from the pressure on the phone's case. In addition, the clips scrape up against the backside of the screen when sliding up the phone, and over time, start leaving a very noticeable mark. I corrected this with a just a strip of tape over where it was scraping.
The protector for the sliding part of the phone was a bit of an issue. It clips very tightly to the phone, but the clips scrape a lot against the edges of the phone next to the keyboard. In addition to making it a little more difficult to slide the phone, it leads to wear overtime (noticeable wear actually started in less than a few hours of normal use for me). I corrected this by actually cutting off the clips, and using double sided adhesive to stick that part of the case on. It doesn't scrape anymore, but at the same time, it just doesn't look good as the case doesn't properly hold together.
I don't really see how much of this can be fully fixed. I used to own a G1, and I didn't notice the issue of cases scratching the phone until it was too late, but I was able to notice it on my MyTouch. I'm hesitant to go for the BodyGuardz. I had one on my G1, and though it was nearly invisible protection, and protected 95% of the phone, I ended up dropping my phone and it landed on a sharp rock on part of the 5% that happened to not be covered (which ironically actually are the corners of the phone, where it is very likely to land on).
I'm actually a fan of the body glove case. I'm just waiting for something with more clearance because of the anker battery. I've heard goods things about the otterbox, but it is kinda bulky.

I was going to edit in my response about the case I got in the first post - but after this one I quoted I need say not much more.
I really want to like the case, it feels nice and looks good on the phone...but it makes it too much of a pain in the ... to get the back of the case off.
I didn't realize how often I pop the back of the phone open to swap out memory cards until I put the case on.
It lasted on my phone for about 3 hours before I took it off...and it scratched one corner of my phone when I did it. Scratch isn't bad, and it'll probably buff out over time, but it's the first damage the phone has suffered - ironically from the thing that was supposed to prevent this.
If you are never going to pop open the back of the phone to get to the memory card, and you don't mind the backside of your screen-half of the phone getting scratched up when you slide it open - then this is a pretty decent case.
I think the scratching the back of the screen part can be solved by using a knife to cut a sliver off the part that sticks op, then maybe using a small piece of electrical tape to cover that clip.
I like it, I want to like it, but I can't use it - I take the phone apart too damn much for a case like this to be practical.
I'm on the lookout for a gel-type case now. Think that'll be the perfect solution. If anyone finds one, please mention it here.
I got the black cheap case today. After reading the reviews I knew better than to just throw it on there. So I took a small metal file that I have, and proceeded to shave each clip down just a little. After a few trials I got the clips shaved down enough that they all fit and are not pressing against the bottom of the screen hard enough to scratch it.
The coating on this case was not really rubber. Its more of a dusted flat black. It's not slick to the touch, but it doesnt grip like the rubber of the phone.
The phone still fits into the generic style T-mobile mount. But its not as secure as without. I can turn it upside down and give it a light shake without coming loose. So hopefully it will be fine.
I got my psychedelic cover and I'm not very impressed with it. It makes the phone very bulky and awkward to hold (maybe because of my small girly hands -_-).
I find taking the back cover off particularly stressful because I'm scared I'd rip the screen off the keyboard.
Protection wise I haven't dropped my phone yet to see what kind it would provide but I'm guessing it wouldn't fall off the phone if dropped.
Haven't seen any dents or scratches caused by it.
I think I'd prefer it if it had a more rubbery feel as the texture is kind of smooth and slippery.
Overall, I'm satisfied with it but I wish I could figure out a way to take off the cover without the fear of destroying it. Haha.
Lily.

Quick question - in the pictures you uploaded to Amazon the phone back and sides seem to have a checker pattern. Is that pattern due to the protector?
The otterbox exists for this phone? Or you speaking generally about the otterbox product line?

Yes, it's a woven "carbon fiber" pattern. I took the pictures at angles where the light shows it more clearly. I think it looks nice and provides a "non-slip" surface as well without adding any bulk to the phone when you want to use it, which I personally prefer.

Thanks for linking this and posting the pics on Amazon., I'm going to order one today.
Thanks. I ordered one and installed it yesterday. The front and back went on great. I had more trouble with the sides but that is because I am not the most deft person around. There are a lot long thin pieces but MT4GS has a lot of moving parts. The phone looks great from the front. But the back has a bubble or two - again my clumsiness.

That's about the same thing I got that I posted about before - just mine is in black.
I know I said a few posts back that I wasn't going to use it, but I had to do something to try to keep it safe.
I've been using it for a few days now, and while I have my gripes, I suppose it's okay.
I got tired of not being able to put it down anywhere, for fear of scratching the camera lens. This case sits further down then the lens, so it isn't the thing the weight of the phone rests on.
Before, i'd have to find something soft to put it down on everywhere I went, which was annoying. I wouldn't put it in my pocket, because they are always full of dust and whatnot - that little grainy stuff gets into the phone and I didn't want that.
Now, with the case on, it doesn't fit in my belt holster anymore - so I have to put it in my pocket or carry it. Desperately seeking another solution but coming up short.
What i'm thinking about doing is drilling some holes in the back of the case, and attaching a belt clip to the hard case shell itself.
So now i'm looking for either a belt holster or a clip I can attach to the hard case itself. Whatever ends up happening, i'll get some pictures and put 'em up here.
What I really, really, really, really want is a soft-rubber case, like a gel case of some sort that can absorb shock - not some hard plastic thing.

Can you 2 that got this case tell me if it fits OK? I hate cases that feel like they are going to fall off after they are on...does this one do that? Specifically when you slide the keyboard up with your thumbs does the front part of the case feel like it would fall off because of your thumb pressure?
Just wanted to be sure it was somewhat well constructed...the $5 price tag just has me concerned.

No, it's fine. I've dropped the phone twice and the case hasn't come off. And it certainly isn't about to come off from handling/usage of the phone. It fits snug. Supposedly its made by HTC, if that means anything. The case does it's job without problems.

It fits snug, coming off accidentally isn't a problem. Both the top piece and the bottom piece are secure, normal - or even some exaggerated abnormal - use won't knock it off.
The longer I use the case the more it grows on me, I really like the silky feel of it. There have been a few situations already where having a case protected the phone - I haven't dropped it and hope I never do, but since it's becoming a portable video game system/controller amongst other things it can't be without one.
I suppose you could do far worse then this case, but i'd trade it for a gel-type rubber case in a heartbeat. Hard cases don't protect from shock damage.

[Q] Ram Mount X-Grip

Has anyone used the X-Grip mount from Ram Mount?link
From the pictures it seems that the prongs may press the buttons, one YouTube reviewer using it on his motorbike said he used the smaller one as he felt it held the phone in a tighter grip. There seems to be a bit of wiggle with the device in the grip. If anyone has used this mounting system please let me know what your experience has been like with it.

I've got one and have used it with a S3, , Note 3, S5, and Note 4. It only hits the buttons if you put the phone too low in portrait mode, or too far to one side in landscape. If the phone is centered, it's fine.
I *love* my x grip. It's absolutely the best windshield mount I've ever had. The 'wiggle' is easily alleviated by tightening the various fasteners of the XGrip, and mine only ever moves (the tiny bit it does move) when I'm putting the phone in or taking it out. It's rock solid while driving.
The one caveat with the X Grip and the Note 4 is that with a case that adds width, it may be a tight fit. I've got a tech21 impactology case which adds 2-3mm of width to each side (4-6mm total), and it just barely fits into my XGrip with the case on. I imagine a similar problem would exist with otterbox type cases.

I imagine a similar problem would exist with otterbox type cases.

Thank you very much for your reply, it seems from your response that you have the standard X Grip and not the X Grip Large Phone holder. I have normal TPU case so the width should be OK and I think with the standard X Grip one has the option of using smaller phones too.
With the ram mounts I decided to build my own cases from wood because so far I'm not happy with what's on the market. I make custom holders designed to fit the case I'm rocking. Simple in and out with secure fit. None of this clamping crap with 2 hands. The pic with the smaller holder was for a iPhone 6 I returned. So far that was the best one I've made and I use it as a template for my other designs. That was made with Oak. The Note holder is made with poplar. I picked that brown kaki color because it looked natural for the wood. I had black spray paint but it looked super cheap and glossy.
If you guys want a detailed step by step I can do it. I do want to make a slightly shorter version. It took me a few revisions before I stuck with this design; simple to cut and layout, access to all the buttons, open bottom with side catchers. So if you have the tools and time I highly recommend making your own holder.
Thank you for sharing. I do like the flexibility of the ram mount system. I currently have an iBolt that I was happy with but longevity has been a problem with it. I do like mounts that can be used with multiple devices so you don't need a new one for each device.

How do you prevent the phone from sliding out in landscape mode?

I don't use landscape but if did I have a spring loaded bracket for that purpose. But the holder would be much longer. I did one for my motorcycle and it held just fine but that was my first gen product; pretty ugly. Now that I got more experience I can get more creative.
You just gave me a weekend challenge.

He he, best of luck. Keep in mind, it still has to have one handed operation. Otherwise there is no point.

Kickstand4U - add on kickstand for phones without cases

I've been using Kickstand4U for a while on my last couple phones.
I don't really need to worry about slippery phones because the kickstand sticks to the back of the phone and gives it a "bump" that works nicely when holding the phone.
And also the kickstand opens up with a "loop" that you can insert a finger into, which is comfortable and makes it impossible to accidentally drop the phone.

Just a heads up for anyone who has not heard of them before.
They've been around several years.
Spigen as a similar concept. Might be a good alternative.
U100 Universal Metal Kickstand: http://www.spigen.com/products/u100-universal-metal-kick-stand
As usual, Spigen has no idea how to engineer a kickstand.
While that looks like it'll be fine for landscape, it'll be mostly useless for portrait viewing due to lack of stability.
Landscape-only is probably fine for most folks though, I suppose.
I'm one of the oddballs who likes to set my phone on the desk in portrait kickstand mode so I can do productive stuff.
Adding pix now that I have my phone and the kickstand4u installed.
This kickstand has been used on three phones so far, so it's a bit old and well used, but still looks nice enough.
More pix. This is with the kickstand full opened so you can slip a few fingers behind it. You're able to hold the phone in one hand this way, without the phone falling out of your hand.
I can literally shake my hand back 'n forth but the phone isn't going anywhere. :good:
And actual kickstand usage pics...
And a short video of me tapping away at the screen while it's in portrait mode.
Try that with a Spigen!
Sorry about my dogs playing in the background, being all noisy.
And sorry about not knowing how to properly embed a freakin youtube video. lol I give up.

Got one. Thanks for all the pics and video. Very helpful. Any idea what the difference is with the new Gen2 product that they sell vs. their original product?

Initial thoughts on kickstand4u (Moto Z2 Play with Turbo Pack Mod)
Got in the kickstand4U and my initial impression is that I like it. I'm using it on a Motorola Turbo Pack Batter mod that i use with my Moto Z2 Play. For all my other phones I would just buy an aftermarket phone case with a kickstand. Unfortunately for the Moto Z phones, there is no case that is compatible with their mods (since in theory you're constantly swipping mods so a case would defeat the purpose). The material on the Turbo Pack is a rubberized rough finish to provide a better grip on the phone when you use it. I have adherred the kickstand directly to the Turbo pack using the included adhesive tape.
My beefs about the Gen2 kickstand are below:
1. The adhesive that the product is shipped with is not so great. The product comes with 2 different adhesive stickers. One is specifically cut to fit the stand itself and the other looks like a Commander strip that you'd by at your nearest Walmart. I'm presently using the cut to the product one and I'm willing to bet that the stand will fall off Moto Mod in a matter of weeks since the adhesive is substandard and the adhesion does not cover the entire back of the product. I'll try the Commander strip if the cut out adhesive fails. I'm also thinking of using Heavy Duty velcro which I'lll adhere to the phone and the back of the kickstand with some Gorilla or crazy glue. In theory that would allow you to use the kickstand on multiple phones if you wanted.
2. The stability of the kickstand is not so great in portrait mode. For some reason there is a curvature to the kickstand edge that rests on the table which means onlty two small points of the kickstand rest on the desk surface at any one time. You can see this curvature of the bottom of the kickstand if you look at the pics the OP provided above). This curvature makes the kickstand not as stable as it could be in portrait mode. Also the kickstand material is thin. The lack of continual surface contact and thinness of the material causes my phone to "travel" very easily when typing on it in portrait orientation if it is resting on top of a smooth surface (like an office desk). I would have preferred that the kickstand material to be thicker, the edge not curved and the bottom edge to have a roughness so that it reduces how much it travels when pushing on the phone. The phone is much more stable in landscape mode as there is much more kickstand surface that rests on the desk surface (there's also a much lower center of gravity in landscape orientation vs. portrait which greatly adds to the phones stability when in this orientation).
3. The kickstand product is pretty thick (10mm) which presents a problem when putting the phone in my phone clamp that I use in my car (clamp stand that attaches to vent). I would have unstood this thickness if the kickstand material were thicker. I'll have to purchase a new deeper clamp now b/c the kickstand adds so much thickness to the phone.
That's my limited review with just using it for a couple of days. However as the OP said, the price is decent, you get it quickly, it comes in a variety of design choices, it allows you to use it in landscape/portrait orientation and also as a finger loop (which I won't do until I can find a way securely attach it to my Turbo Pack's surface). From my research if you want to add a kickstand to a phone I still think this is the best product on the market but there is room for improvements.

Great case and Screen Protector for ZE570KL

I figured those of you who haven't decided yet, you may want some accessory recommendations.
Here is my case. It is perfect for this phone. Ignore the 1 bad review, they didn't even have this phone.

Here is my screen protector. It is a 2 pack of 9H tempered glass for $8. There is about 1mm of exposed glass on each edge after installation, but my case covers those edges perfectly. The cutouts line up perfectly and has a Hydrophobic and Oleophobic screen coating. The screen is super smooth to the touch and installs easily without a single bubble.

Those are the only accessories I've bought so far, maybe period as I can't think of anything else I could need. I have the 256GB so I won't need a MicroSD. Let me know if you have anything that may be better. I hope you are enjoying your ZenFone 3 Deluxe as much as I am.
Ordered the same case yesterday. Should get it next week... I'm glad you like it!

Let me know how u like it. I love mine
I ordered the silver variant of that case last week. Suprised at how well the back stays on there with as little room it has to snap on there. Got a second one coming in for my Special Edition (own the 820 and 821 model).
Anyways, it's a great case. Just wish Spigen will come out with a slimline model of their cases for the phones. Had theirs with the kickstand for my note 4 and it was about as slim as this one and worked well for the 2 years I had the phone lol

Built in stand. When they get the always on display back running it will be even better.

So far it's pretty nice. However, I will say the back is slightly slippery. It has better grip than the phone itself, but not much better.
Other than that, a pretty decent slim case

I actually bought both of them.

Got the "all black one". And i'm quite satisfied with it pretty good looking but i have a remark to make the side buttons are a little bit too hard for my taste. Besides that great cover. Still waiting for the temperate glass.

I suppose the buttons are open to subjective opinion. I think they are perfect as they stick out so they are easy to find. They take a little force which I like so they don't accidentally press but still easy enough to press without adjusting your grip on the phone. It only adds a tiny bit of stiffness to the buttons, but I could see how some would press effortless button presses. I am on the opposite side of that spectrum though
Perhaps its just a matter of me geting used to it. One thing is certain it made me easier to get finger print read correctly.. With out the cover i used to get loads of misreads and with it its all fine... Quite happy with the purchase.

Yeah it forces you to hold your finger vertically. That is the one thing I don't like as I wish they would've made the sides of the fingerprint edging just as slanted as the bottom.
If you are having issues with the fingerprint sensor, when you train your finger, be sure to train it a bunch of different ways. Change up the position with each press. Heck, I presume you could even train your main finger twice as two different fingers. We only get to train 5 fingers though.
