[Q] GS4 Battery Life drained by Google Mapps - General Questions and Answers

Im on the cleanrom 1.3 for GS4 and im getting 30%+ of battery drain from google maps and i have not been using maps. I am using some widgets like the stock weather one with current location....
Any ideas how to minimize this drain?
Also, whats the benefits of flashing different kernels on the cleanrom 1.3?
How is performance and battery life affected?

ROM for best battery life?

I'm going outta country and will have limited access to a charger. I'm not gonna use any data, wifi, etc. Probably just movies, music and some apps.
Anyone have suggestions for best battery life?
I get good battery life on Android 4.0

Its average for me, looking for a stable ROM also. Ics is a little buggy still, need something very lightweight.
i Think MIUI and Oxygen are very good for Battery ;-)
It seems that most people seem to tout MIUI as the trimmed-down, fast, good battery life ROM. (Never tried it myself as I like all of my extra features )
I don't know if it was just me but I had miui for months and the battery life was just a little better than ics roms. Is there any rom that stands out in term of battery life. If not,I'll just keep ics.
I am a battery saving natzi.
Using the Oxygen ROM with GlaDOS or Franco kernel with deepidle on and google talk without video installed (to make deepidle work right).
Ive also had great success with oICS V40 (now on 41 seems same) with the Matrix 12.5v Kernel and SmartAssv2 @ 1000/200. I have not been able to get deepidle to cooperate but it still get good batt life.

I'm using

I've always had better battery results with gb roms than ics. With ics I'm continuously checking my battery status to see how much I have remaining.

You need to install a better app. The Android built in power usage thing is about as much use as a chocolate teapot, and better battery stats isn't much better.
Try system panel from Play, you will need the paid version from here. Put it in monitoring mode and leave it for a few hours.
You will be able to see what is chewing CPU then, and that is invariably the thing that is causing the drain. It very rarely fails to assist me with diagnosis of an obscure drain issue.
Ok..just bought system panel app.will update about this crazy battery drain later..
Thanks thalamus..

Cool, it's well worth the couple of dollars.
I've used it pretty much constantly in monitoring mode since they were in beta when I had my desire. So, probably not far off a couple of years usage with me.
It doesn't eat battery either, because it polls when the device wakes up for another reason.
And the thing which really makes it good for me, it records usage of the system tasks, such as kernel threads, which can be massively handy in diagnosing an issue.
Solved by flashing latest adamG ROM..
Thanks adam and thalamus..haha..enjoyed my nexus s back...

Comparison between CM 10.2 and Sense 5 ROMs for battery life ?

hi guys,
I'm just considering upgrading my ROM from the ViperXL 3.2.8 that I have currently - I'm on the new 2.15 firmware and 2.6.1 TWRP with S-OFF.
My most important criteria is battery life and stability - can somebody tell me which one has better battery life ? Is Zoe, Blinkfeed, sleep mode and battery level that big a deal for Sense 5 vs CM 10.2 ?
Everyone uses their phone differently, and battery life is often more geographic and reception dependent, than ROM dependant. Accounts from others regarding battery life may not (and will often not) apply to you.
In the time you made this post and waited for responses, you could have just flashed a Sense 5 ROM, and be trying it out yourself. Which is the only way to really find out how battery life will be for you.

[Q] Wakelocks? Is this normal?

Hello,
Stock Rooted i535 ion Verizon. I also see this behavior when on JellyBeans latest build.
I noticed that my battery has been draining pretty quickly. Could the "Awake" stats be the culprit?
I am also running Google Experience launcher and Dynamic Notifications. Do you think that either one could be killing my battery?
Thanks!
Mac

I am not sure what the culprit could be but you should download "better battery stats" or "wakelock detector" to find out what is truly draining your battery. The battery stats that come in the settings menu for android really don't offer too much insight.
Hope this suggestion helps!!
Looks like Wi-Fi is not going to sleep, check your advanced settings.
