Hello
I have rooted at&t htc one x. Everytime I unlock my phones screen it is starting to search for software update and never ends. Also, if i want to check manually it also takes ages.
Can I somehow turn this automatic update search off?

Google how to change update schedule for your phone model, there is a lot of sites with your info. In past it was used to manipulate update settings. Also if you are rooted then use app like titanium to freeze or remove update module. I personally would remove it as oem updates are garbage IMO .

Have you thought about installing custom ROM for your phone. Here is a good link with lots of options. I would use a task manager app and see what's running that's triggering that search.

I don't see any solution myself. What's happening with your phone is not normal. There's something wrong. The only way to fix it would be to ruu or clean flash a rom if you are bootloader unlocked.

Sorry these questions are forbidden as there is no best rom.
Check them all out. Read the features. If you see a rom with the features you want download and flash it.
Use titanium backup and freeze the OTA updater. Not sure what its called. My mother in law just got a One X, so I'm browsing these forums.
In my S3, its called AT&T Updater or OTA Updater. I haven't been stock in a while. I hope this helped.

Thanks for your suggestions. I'll wait for end of this month, for 4.2 and sense 5 update, if it will still remain as a issue, I'll get a custom rom.

I searched but couldn't find a thread. So can someone tell me how to install the new Android Market on my unrooted Evo?
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA Premium App
I am on MIUI, and to my knowledge they didn't have the latest version in their recent release. Last night I believe mine updated automatically. I could be wrong, but I personally didn't manually update anything. I woke up this morning and it was updated to the most recent version. You may turn on your autosync and everything to see if it does it automatically.
If you have the apk. Uninstall any market updates from settings and use adb to push the new apk to /system/app/Vending.apk. this will overwrite your original vending apk so you might want to back it up first.

Just download and install like a normal app, its just a upgrade and you can downgrade if needed.

So at home on wifi my One X connects/disconnects/connects/disconnects over and over, so obviously I can't update at home.
In my office, zscaler blocks the update.
So I downloaded the update at a Starbucks.. and I keep getting prompted in the notification bar that it's completed, I click it and it says dl successful.
..then the notification disappears and reappears after a couple minutes with the same popup, dl successful.
How can I apply this? Can I boot manually into recovery and apply it? any other ways to apply this thing?
Try to reset your phone and run the update again. This method has helped a few members in this forum.

Thank you very much. This worked for me.
I've been searching and havent found a definite answer to it. Is there anyway to disable the OTA notifications permanently? I'm tired of having to cancel it manually every 5 seconds after unlock screen. I'm on 1.85 rooted, bootloader locked. Tried date changes, tried letting it download then cancel, cache cleaner app, etc, nothing seems to work permanently. I even let it download once just to watch it fail and give me the error that it failed to install so wait until the next update is available. Did that and notification for the same update came back up again a day later. Or am I just stuck with always having to cancel manually?
Thanks

Delete the update.zip in your sd card and change the extension of the HTC/AT&T OTA apks in /system/app/.
Can we get the location of the downloaded OTA on the SD, and names of those specific APKs?

Can someone in the know please confirm that renaming updater.apk is all that is required to prevent the OTA notification?

Just delete it and you will be fine. Thats what i always do just to be safe.

I think you should be able to access it over cellular network as long as you directly go to the download link and not through the settings menu. I could be mistaken, though. I don't know and I didn't try, but here's the link:

Thanks for the link to download over 4g. Has anyone been able to update via this download? I'm stock, unrooted, 4.0.4. I don't want to wait the hour+ it will take to download via WiFi.

Ugh. I tried doing that and couldn't get it to work at first.
On my Nexus 4, the top notification is expanded. I wonder if having the power saver constantly at the top prevents the first notification from expanding automatically.

For sure it works with gmail when i do it, but I do remember reading somewhere that having the power saver on top does prevent from automatic expansions.
here is my pic of the expandable notification https://www.dropbox.com/s/8mrfnrzgq7rcumr/2013-04-30_10-07-49.png
jmz power saver disables that notification!
Why not just turn off notifications in the main settings menu?

I used adaway ad blocking with ics but after upgrading to jb it doesn't work anymore and resets after each boot.
Can someone suggest a good app to block ads?
It's a known problem, if you are on the stock ROM. Any others will have the same issue although there is Adblock if you want a new one.
To get rid of the problem use a custom kernel or flash the mod that prevents read-only access in system, when the device has booted.
