Using the keyboard dock as an external charger? - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello everyone,
I recently found I could charge my phone by plugging the micro-usb cord into the USB port in the keyboard dock that is usually used for a mouse. Anyway, my question is would you be able to efficiently use this method to charge a phone, or does the USB port not put out enough power to charge the phone in a reasonable time?

How do you charge your phone?

Hey guys,
Been wondering how everyone else charges their phones. I've always used my usb charger and only used the car charger when necessary.

I do the battery calibration from the other thread about once a week. For everyday charging I just charge when low. So far my battery last pretty long.some days longer then others.
I usually just plug it in

Just the usual. Plug it into the standard micro USB the phone came with. Calibrate every time I update my ROM(since Humble comes with a battery calibrate app, makes it very easy).
at home i use the USB charger that came with the Charge. at work i use a micro usb charger that came with a palm pixi or a bluetooth headset that used micro usb to charge. I tried using a microusb cable plugged into my work computer, but that triggers the usb storage mode, which stops my podcast player. I've also noticed some universal usb chargers trigger the USB storage mode.
In the car I have the Charge car dock. I use a mini usb charger for a garmin gps with a mini to micro usb adapter with it. If I plug that directly into the Charge, it triggers the Desktop dock mode, rather than car dock mode.

Bahaha. Here, I use my Galaxy Tab charger. Goes a lot faster because of the higher amperage, plus I don't need to charge my Tab very often.

[Q] Problem charging Xoom Using USB Dock after ICS Upgrade

After upgrading my Xoom to ICS 1.0.0, my Motorola dock will not charge my Xoom while docked like it did before using Tiamat 3.2 Honeycomb. However, the supplied Motorola Xoom AC charger does work both now and prior to the ICS upgrade. The Motorola dock appears to charge via the USB connector but does have its own power supply that plugs into AC. The supplied AC charger uses a different single pin connector on the Xoom to provide power (not the USB port).
Is there a known problem with ICS 1.0.0 that would prvent me from charging using the Motorola (USB) Dock as I did before ??
Please advise. I love ICS 1.0.0 but use my Motorola dock heavily to keep my Xoom charged while I use it from my desk.
Thanks in advance for your help with this.
I also have problems while charging my Xoom (ICS 4.0.3).
When I plug in the charger it's say charging then disconnected, charging then disconnected, charging then disconnected ...
It's very annoying. I just can't charge it correctly
Sometimes it shut down 40% and I have to charge it.
Very peculiar. I set my xoom on my Motorola HD audio doc every night without issue. Perhaps you could wake up at 3 am and shoot me a logcat
The dock actually doesn't charge via USB. It charges by those two pins to the right of it making contact with the bare metal tabs on the bottom of the Xoom. If you only have one pin like you say that is your problem. AC electricity, well all, needs an in and out or battery and ground. Just one pin won't cut it. Also, Try adjusting the tab while It's in the dock. Sometimes mine won't see it and charge, but if i shift it slightly it starts charging fine. Did you change cases or remove a case. The dock has two sleeves...one for with a case and one for without a case. Sorry if you tried all these. Just trying to help

Thanks everyone.
When I checked the pins on the dock, I found that one of the pins was not springing up high enough to make contact with the Xoom contacts. The dock pins were not repairable so I just bought a new dock on eBay since they are not really that expensive. Thanks again.
So what is the usb port for then because there is nowhere to connect a usb port to the dock?

[Q]Charging using USB

When I connect my P6200 using usb, it doesn't charge, instead, there is an 'x' symbol at the battery. Is this normal? Because using my Galaxy Ace, it charges when usb is connected. I'm asking this because I'm trying usb tether for the first time, but in this case if it doesn't charge, it means that I can only usb tether until my battery has depleted and I would have to recharge again to be able to tether.
Yup. Usb is not able to charge tab and ipad. Need to plug to wall for charging

Actually it does charge. More of a trickle charge tho. If the screen is off, then it will trickle charge a bit faster.
If the tab is connected via USB, will it at least be able to sustain itself via the USB power?
So if your battery is on 50%, and you keep the tablet on and are using it. Will it at least stay on 50% and not decrease slowly?
Samsung puts a resistor in their chargers so the tablet can distinguish between a Samsung brand charger and all other chargers.
The tablet will not charge (or use power from) any USB port except the wall adapter. (lame Samsung... really lame...)
You can buy adapters (or make them)
There's more info for creating an adapter yourself in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=845844
Just like the GT-P1000, P6200 is charging over the usb port of any pc, only when it is turned off. But anyway the charging process is much longer. Very useful when you don't heave the travel adapter with you.
i use this usb cable it work
It pulls a Max of 500mA from the USB or unknown charger. This will charge a tab plus with the screen off that isn't doing much. It will pull 1500mA from the Samsung wall charger.

My Plus charges normally from PC via USB. Icon shows 'x', but still in charging process anyway. It takes longer time but for those who tether should be ok and Plus should stay at least on the same level of %. I have unoriginal cable bought together with car charger.
I purchased a micro USB charger adapter from ebay. It just plugs into the 30 pin port and I am able to use my cell phone charger with no problem at all. The cell charger puts out 1000ma and the tab plus recognizes it. Do a search for P6200 Micro USB Charger Adapter on ebay.
If you are determined to use a computer to charge the tab plus, you will need the adapter above and a dual USB A to micro USB B Y cable. It will plug into two USB ports on the computer and give you the 1000ma to charge the tab plus. This is the best solution without having power cables all over your desk.
re
HEllo, where can I buy this cable?
thanks

First I thought there might be some problems but this post helped me figure the cause

[Q] Chargeable only through wall outlet?

So I finally received my ASUS EEE PAD TRANSFORMER 101!!!
Is it only able to charge through using the Wall charger adapter that came with it??
I tried plugging in the USB cable unto the computer, but it doesnt charge my tablet, only mounts the device.
I also tried using like apple wall ac adapter and...inspire 4g(phone) wall charger and non of the charged the tablet.
I usually like to have an extra stuff so I can take the extra one around places while the stock one is at home.
I read somewhere its because so the tablet would take one hour less to charge than most tablets. So it's optimized for the charger it came with.
I think you need to buy a charger with the same volt as the one it came with so it can work.

dang that sucks. ughhh. Thanks for the quick answer!
guess I should go buy a extra wall adapter.
The reason it does not charge on usb or a normal usb wall charger is cause the asus block that came with the tablet pushes 2.1 amps where a normal phone charger pushes 1 amp
it will charge off a normal charger but it wont see it and it will take about 24 to 32 hours cause it trickle charges it

[Q] After using dock, TF300 won't charge with original Charger

Hello All,
I recently purchased a new TF300T, and it initially charged fine with the original wall charger. Within the past 2 weeks, I've been using my dock, and I noticed my tablet won't charge using the original wall charger. The only way my tablet will charge is I have it hooked up to my dock, and I connect the dock to the wall charger.
Everything on the tablet is stock.
Any idea what's up?
I've had this issue too, it appears that the tablet IS charging, but neglecting to mention it. I've read somewhere that it might be due to a firmware update, which hasn't been identified.
My advice is to watch it while the charger is plugged directly into the charger, if it doesn't show any charge going up then that's confusing, because if something was wrong with the charger it wouldn't charge your keyboard. :\
