Spigen Neo Hybrid worth it? - Galaxy S 4 Accessories

I saw the Spigen Neo Hybrid case for the Galaxy S4. I read that there were some issues with previous versions of it for the S3. I was just wondering since some of you guys have one... Does it protect well? It just seems that it wouldn't protect the phone well enough. Also are the buttons too sensitive?
How does it feel? Is the back of the case have more of a plastic feel or rubbery feel to it? And is it worth the $30?
One more thing... I read that tempered glass screen protectors are good. I saw that they were about $30 and I don't really know. Are the normal plastic ones okay?
Thanks.

Could you explain why?

I had the yellow neo hybrid case and returned it to amazon after ten days. The auxiliary cord in my car wouldn't fit, it was rather blocky feeling in my hand (I'm a male with normal sized hands). The main thing that made me return it was the chipping of the glossy coat after ten days, and I have NEVER misused or dropped my phone.
It looks awesome, however.
I decided to just get UAG, probably going to be better for my needs than the neo hybrid was.

I have it and I hate it (especially for $30)
Buttons are extremely easy to push. Whenever I am taking it out of my pocket (business slacks) I always end up pressing buttons. It makes the phone uncomfortable to use. I kind of got used to it but after switching to a tpu case that has rounded corners you don't miss the neo hybrid in your hands. The back feels like matte rubber not grippy at all. I never dropped my phone in this case so don't know how it would hold up. The incompatibility with most micro usb cables pissed me off too.
With that said it does look good I actually had a few people ask what kind of phone that was and complimented the case. I like having my phone feel safe in my hand more than looks I suppose so I haven't used it in a few weeks

Ive had it in my cart for a few days now and cant decide if I should get it or not, 30 bucks isnt too bad but I already paid that for my sview case and I dont want to have one or the other laying around but man it looks nice as hell

absolutely love mine. I use it with the Glast.r (however you spell it lol, it's late) and one of their aluminum home button pieces. Such a nice setup imo.

got it and i love it also got a cheap knockoff on ebay from china for cheap but the quality isnt there although it works. The Spigen works great if your looking for a cool protective case for your S4.
obviously if you drop it from a few stories it might not protect your phone as a otterbox but you get style and just everyday protection. You have to ask yourself what kinda protection you want for your new device and how prone you are abusing it.

I love mine cause the buttons are easier to press and it adds a certain weight to the phone I thought the s4 was too light. Plus the jellybean buttons feel awesome. Only thing though makes it look like an iPhone! Ain't nobody got time to be an iSheep!

i have both a slim armor and neo hybrid. imo the neo hybrid with a tempered glass solution (mine is MIME) and an aluminum button is pure class. i thought i'd switch between the two cases but I have a feeling my slim armor is just gonna sit around and not get used

Looks and build quality wise the Sgp Neo Hybrid is stunning - no excess material anywhere and an excellent fit. But ergonomics and protection wise it is not so good. There is barely any lip to speak of and the main camera lens is only about 1mm away from the surface you place your phone on. The squared off design also makes the phone uncomfortable to hold. I have slung mine in a drawer and am using a UAG case which although not finished as well seems much better for protection. I do not think the Sgp case is worth 30 dollars when you can pick up a UAG case (including a screen protector) for only 5 dollars more.

My friend got one, and he thinks is pretty awesome tho there is a big problem with the aux connection for bigger aux-cabels

I love mine, the onl down side is I had to buy a different dock because the oem samsung wouldnt work with the case. Its ok though cause I got a sweet one from Rok Form that adjusts to any case. Ive had it for 3 weeks now and no chips or anything so if people say theirs chipped its because they dropped it. 30.00......worth it.

Just picked this up today. Nice case. The fit is perfect, very solid. To be honest, it makes the phone feel more solid then the naked phone (mine sort of squeaks around the battery cover on it's own). All the cut-outs are perfect. There's a slight lip to protect the screen if you lay it screen-down. The back has real brushed aluminum, although i'm sure it's just a thin piece stuck to the plastic, but it looks nice and professional.
I picked this case up from Bestbuy (Canada) for $24.99. Somewhat expensive, but the build quality is good. Not sure if they have it in the US stores.
Also, I've got the SGP Neo-Hybrid case coming in the mail. I'll let you know how the 2 stack up against each other once I receive it...

yeah i saw that case in bestbuy too and i tried it out. It has the same kinda problems the stock phone has, very slippery edges. I dont know how many times it has slipped out of my hands since i got it. I even dropped it onto cement and bashed up the top corner because it slid out from my jacket pocket.
Its a nice looking base but it sure as hell doesnt fix the grip issue i have with the phone.
Just saw the barely there on sale here:

Couldn't agree more... super slippery. I was really more concerned about scratching the back (especially the bottom hump) every time I put to down. But yeah, this case doesn't offer much in terms of shock protection if you were to drop it. Maybe just save the phone from getting scratched up... that's about it.

Good price! But with my luck, i'd return the one I have and end up seriously damaging my phone while I'm waiting for that Dec 7th release date on that site.
I heard that because the case is made from aluminum it actually caused reception issues for some people
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using XDA App
I haven't noticed any reception issues so far, but I could see it causing an issue with NFC since the NFC antenna is built into the battery and the aluminum totally covers that area. Too bad no one really uses NFC yet, so I can't really test it! Maybe soon....
+1 this exactly happened to me.
Returned it and picked up the rubbery case-mate case instead and that worked fine.

The Barely There cases for other phones cause problems with GPS signal, does this one do the same?
I'm surprised that this case is thicker than the neo hybrid.
I got this case last Tuesday from the local AT&T store.
I absolutely love it!
IT was like $42 and change though, seems expensive, but it does have aluminum on it.
It is so well designed someone who doesn't own the same phone would be unlikely to realize that there is a case on the phone!
I have noticed NO measurable degradation in Cell Signal, GPS, or WiFi. Granted I did not look at my signal dBm before and after in the same location to actually measure it. I don't think that is valid. Atmospheric conditions affect the signal more.
Yes it is still slippery, but I was used to my old Captivate with no case so this is not an issue for me.
It is also available in Grey(Silver?)!
FYI for anyone local. - Found at the sore in Suwanee, GA off 317 next to Moe's.
---------- Post added at 06:48 AM ---------- Previous post was at 06:46 AM ----------
I'll try to get a pic of it on the phone tomorrow.
So i got the ultra capsule while waiting for this case-mate barely there case. Im not sure if i like it to be honest.
First, the ultra capsule is a smaller form factor, the phone is larger with the case-mate on it.
Also, the casemate doesn't cover the entire screen bezel (the top and bottom are unprotected, the sides are)
so if you dropped your phone and it landed flat on its face - that should be fine (though not sure if i'd test it out!)
or if it landed on the SIDE - that would be protected. But if it landed on the top or bottom, the screen bezel is very soft and is unprotected so you would for sure get scratches/dents there.
Also, the case is VERY slippery.
With that said, it is a beautiful case - minus the ugly large case-mate logo on the back!
lol
i'll keep it on for a bit but think i'll just use the ultra capsule for now as its smaller and offers more protection.
I myself bought this case and within the first week broke the little piece that goes across the top of the volume controls. I have also had my phone fly out of my cubby holder in my gravel truck and go out the window. The case protected well as it was a long way down to the ground.

Official Samsung Protective Cover

Hey guys I purchased this case last week and now that I've spent some time with it, I can give my little review of it.

First off it's a very nice slim case that protects all sides of your phone, it has a small lip so it does offer a lay on the table design!
The sides also have a nice feel to it, it's a bit slippery but not as bad as when you're using the phone naked.
The volume and power buttons are super responsive.
The back tends to leave a bit of finger prints, however it wipes off easily.
The camera cut out is perfect, and is recessed. So for those of you who are worried about your lens being scratched, this will protect it!
The top headphone jack port cut out fits all my headphones, so there are no problems there.
There are also cut outs for the IR Blaster, and even a cut out for a phone strap.
The bottom USB port cut out, does not fit all USB connections. I've only found that the Samsung fits, my generic brand ones will not fit.
Let me know if you guys have any other questions, I'll be sure to answer them!

I purchased mine from BestBuy. I'm pretty sure you can get these from the Samsung site as well!
As for the material, I believe it is TPU plastic, you can bend it and it's a bit flexible.
I've had this case for a couple days as well. Out of all the cases I've had for all the recent phones (S3, Note 2, One), this is BY FAR the best case I've ever used. For those who aren't looking for something seriously rugged like an Otterbox, this case is stunningly good in every way. The material is TPU, but it's very different from any other case of this material I've used. Exceptionally high quality.
-TPU material much higher quality and very different than anything else on the market.
-Grip is very good. Only case I've come across that balances grip and slickness so perfectly. Back is a hybrid between matte and slick but not slippery. The sides are a bit more rubbery, matte and textured.
-Buttons are exceptionally responsive for a TPU case.
-The biggest strength of this case is ergonomics. It just feels perfect in the hand. It's curved perfectly in the right places making it supremely comfortable. The sides have enough flat area to give good grip. Before this I tried the Spigen Neo Hybrid, and imo it defeated the great ergonomics of Samsung phones. By making the back completely flat, it just didn't sit naturally in the hand. The Samsung case is maybe slightly thicker than the Neo Hybrid, but it looks and feels a lot smaller.
-I've got the same Navy color as kodath. It's a very dark blue, looks black in a lot of conditions. The sides are even darker and you can tell it's actually blue and not black occasionally.
I just cannot say enough good things about this product. It is of very serious quality and perfectly executed design.
I bought mine from Staples for $30. Free shipping to store and arrived next day.
Hello everyone,
I did not see too many things posted about the Official Samsung Protective Cover + so i figured i'll chime in. I had it on my Note 2 and I liked it, I figured I'll pick it up and see how it is. Just got it earlier today, and so far so good!
I got the Navy Color, and as you see it looks black in certain angles.
I picked it up at radio shack (they had 3 different colors [white, light blue and navy] ), staples supposedly has the navy, and offcourse the official samsung site:
http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SCH-I545ZWAVZW-accessories
For full size pictures go to the album: http://imgur.com/a/gaGE4#0
And some pics I snapped of the other colors at the store.
Got mine today. Best case I've ever owned out of any phone. It's perfect. Clearly. Samsung made the phone. And the case. They wouldn't fail.

Nice looking case, looks like it fits great. I like that blue color. How protective would you say it would be for minor drops (taking out of pocket, getting out of car and forgetting phone is on your lap and it hits the ground)?
Would be good for small average two to three feet I'd say. I use screen protector as well. It has a decent lip so it doesn't sit on the screen when you put it face down. It's not bulky. But it protects. I just don't want to test it over my head face down. Who would?

Usually those stores have a 30 day return policy, order from Samsung for 50% off, wait till it comes in and return the one from store. Win win!
Got the light blue version of this case today. Very nice case. The fit is great as you'd expect, and it keeps the phone super slim. Buttons are very responsive in the case. As far as protection, it looks like it would protect in a small drop, but I wouldn't want that to happen over concrete.
Even though this case was nearly perfect, I returned it simply because I wanted black and also because the back scratched easily. The fit and button feel was excellent though, and it didn't interfere with my glas.tr
Didn't notice this on the site and just got it. I got the SGP Neo Hybrid now, works good looks good but its just a little too bulky for my liking. If anyone wants it I'll sell it for $20 shipped, about 3 days of use on it.

I do like the neo hybrid, I was thinking about getting it but swapping out the bumper for an aluminum one.
I feel the bumper would have a similar design and would sort of fit

I have to warn you, I did some research after having issues with my Element Case Eclipse, and it seems that many people who are not paid in free merch by companies to review products have reported that aluminium bumpers cause hella problems with GPS signals in particular, but also drop your bars (from 4-5 to 3-4, for example). Now, if you never use GPS (lol, who doesn't use GPS?) then maybe it doesn't matter as much, but I about threw the case out the window when I realised this $100 case (incl. tax and shipping) was breaking my GPS. Took the case off and I was good to go. Just my experience and my research. Don't be a statistic.
Also, I much preferred the Spigen Slim Armor to the Neo Hybrid. the Neo Hybrid is not comfortable and the Slim Armor looks sexier in person.
I bought a Draco aluminum bumper in black. They are pricey, but very nicely made.

I would probably say on a whole when you dont have it in your hand and its sitting there, yes, it would be cooler than without it as the aluminum is keeping it cool. I have an app called Thermometer Plus that tells the temperature of the phone and other sensor stuff that seems pretty accurate.
I got my draco hydra case this morning. The polished one looks great on my white S4 GE. It's polished but not mirror finish so it doesn't show fingerprints like crazy and will most likely hide little surface scratches.
As draco support said it does not effect GPS or cell reception even on my sometimes weak t mobile signal. I tested it by navigating to several locations today. Since my phone is new I had been paying attention to reception a lot so I was able to keep track of this as well.
Is it worth the price....probably not but it is the only case (bumper or other) for any phone I've ever had that doesn't look cheap or scream this phone has a case on it. The curved shape also makes it easier to hold on to a very slipper phone. However the front and back is slick enough that it doesn't make it hard to slide into a pants pocket. The grippiness comes from the curved shape and the textures polycarbonate side panels.
My only major complaint is that although the front has a nice lip to protect the phone when face down the back doesn't really so it's generally sitting on the highest point of the back which is the camera. This looks nicer but is less practical from a protection standpoint. Back protection matters a little less on a phone that has a replaceable back but it would still be nice to protect the camera more.
Also I wish it didn't say ducati on it. I debated getting the cheaper airborne case which doesn't have it but I didn't like it's design as much. I am into cars and motorcycles but I don't own a ducati so it feels silly, at least its discrete and I didn't have to put the ducati sticker on the back of my phone.
i suggest this. I would get it right now if i have the $$$ lol

does the clear uag case get scratch easier than the other colors?
I had 1 case ****canned it. Don't use cases now, the manufactures go through so much design to make these phones fit and be slim it is almost a shame to put a case on it. I have dropped mine at least 8 times a few little dings, I wash it daily with soap and water and have yet to have an issue..
.lovemeicase.com/goods.php?id=74[/url] I just got this case and it is awesome, plus it doubles as a crime deterrent. I bought it off eBay though for only 25 I only knew about these cases because I had one for my iPhone 5.

Soap is not good on the phone my friend.
Body Glove case. Really nice grip, anti microbial, and feels very high quality. Snugs the phone tight. Also have the ZAGG glass protector and it works fine with it.
Spigen Tough Armor Case - Gunmetal
This case provide good protection and is very compact. I dropped my phone once and it seemed to provide very good protection.
The buttons are easy to press and I actually like the buttons are flat along the edge of the case, so the chance to mistakenly press the buttons is less!
The cutouts are very good. There are 4 tiny bumps at the back corners that prevent the back from scratches and lift the speaker a little bit above the surface you placed on, so less damping to the speaker.
This case feels high quality made, easy to hold in the hand, and looks good.
Agreed

I actually bought this case before I even bought the phone! It just gives the phone a rugged look and feel. With the phone by itself I didn't necessarily care for the look of it and knew I wanted a case for the S5. Couldn't be happier with this purchase. I even like the ridge edges it has and makes it easier to grip.
My newest spigen case in my collection.
Picked this up from a Cellaris kiosk in the mall.. Had one on my note 2 for the last year and it did an excellent job protecting my phone, so I went back and got one for my S5, I love the kick stand, but the one on my note 2 case seemed more durable than the one on my S5 cases.
They will usually mix and match colors to suit you, and I went with this combo, for the heck of it heh.
heres a link to their webpage, they have other colors at the kiosk, but you get an idea. most of the cases are cruddy, but the kiosks have otterboxes, kraken, and some other decent named cases.. this case set me back about $30.. worth it in my opinion.

cheers
I'm using the incipio teal/cyanish with grey. its kind of funny how small the phone is when I have to take it out (like 2 times now) but this thing is durable. I've dropped it and kicked it a few times and it holds up. love how it keeps my camera nice and tucked in. looks pretty cool too but it's built for abuse it seems.
These are my cases up to this moment. unfortunately, i can't use most of them since i'm using the OEM qi.

what kind of case do you use ?

what kind of case do you use ?
I've actually found that using no case, at least on this phone is the best for me. For one, I'm not afraid of dropping my phone because I rarely do. But for another reason, I find cases tend to make the phone buttons harder to use. I bought a legit SPIGEN case per my friend's recommendation but as soon as I got it I hated it. Buttons become harder to press because its no longer raised out of the body as much, and the thing I hate most is that the case was actually slippier to hold than the phone naked, because this phone has the side grip. With the case, I would have to use slide2wake/lock to make daily use easier but I like the slim feeling of the phone so there's no case for me. I've yet to find a good case for this phone so if people have one, let us know, I'm curious.

I'm currently using the Poetic palette case. I hate bulky cases so i went for this one. Protects the device well enough. But i have to agree with the previous post, the grip is better without a case.

I'm using Ringke FUSION, it protected all body and you can feel buttons like no-case!

I have the FUSION as well and I totally love it. Before that, I used a case I got from a T-Mobile store.
Using a white Ringke Slim and loving it.
There's one problem though, the bit covering the front on the top left is larger than all the other ones, causing my phone to wobble when face-down on a table. Anyone else have this problem?
This is the one I have now. Love the Fusion too.

I have been using the Ionic Guardian case for a while as my everyday case, really like it, and it is pretty cheap, under $10 for most colors. I also have a red Turtle Armor case that I use sometimes, it is pretty cheap but works well and has a holster. I did use a Mybat Tuff case for a while, it was great, but I just can't find it.
Been looking at the Boxwave Active series case lately, might order one with my next Amazon purchase to see what it is like, although for the price you can get an Otterbox, Trident, or Ballistic case.
I do not use and it's still perfect my Nexus 4

I have a Ringke Fusion and find this case actually makes the buttons easier to press. There have been a handful of times without the case that I have to physically look at the phone to find the buttons.

No problem with my Fusion but I did read some reviews. See if they will do an exchange for you.
As stated I have the Ringke Fusion. The added protection is great. I've dropped it a couple times and the bumper has handled it like a boss! Still being able to see what makes this phone so beautiful is a bonus! Why get a N4 if you're just going to cover up what makes it so pretty?
But, I digress, I think I'm going to opt for something like ghost armor as dust/dirt has gotten between the case and the phone and has marred the plastic fairly well. Does not appear to be any damages to the glass, but I'm sure it's only a matter of time. Also, the case seems to have vertically scratched the chrome trim around the bottom edge of the device.

Try here.
Cheap, too, if you don't mind waiting a few weeks to get the case(s).

time to rock it naked now stop using cases ...
Still switching between LG official bumper and Ringke Fusion, but I stayed with Ringke for the whole last 1 month, perhaps my N4 will just going naked tomorrow 'cause I am kinda bored with this case things
I've tried a lot of cases for the Nexus 4 and settled on the Seidio Surface case with kickstand and holster and I'm very happy with that combo but it is a little pricey.
A good inexpensive case if you want something really light and unobtrusive is the Rearth Ringke Slim case. I use the Nexus 5 version of that case on my other phone but keep it in a horizontal leather pouch when not stationary. For $7 I would definitely recommend considering that over no case at all, especially since the Nexus 4 has a glass back.

I used a case on my phone as soon as a I got it originally, but I found they all caused problems with the buttons, making it harder to use.
Been running without a case for well over a year now and hardly any scratches or anything on it. I am always careful how I handle it though, I don't put it in pockets with any keys/change etc.
I use one of these:
