Flipboard Help - Asus Transformer TF700

Is there any way to stop Flipboard from extending the text of an article beyond the screen? There is no wa to scroll the articles and it makes it impossible to read right.

I'm thinking that this is a DPI issue. I'm at 213 and have the same problem.
If you have time, and the patience, try changing your DPI to see if it works.

How would I do that?

If you don't know what it is then I doubt you have changed it.
Anyway I'm using DPI 213 and don't have this issue. Is there a particular site that does it?

You need to edit the relevant line in the /system/build.prop with a proper note editor like es file explorer. You'll need the correct permissions too and it will only work if you are unlocked on a custom kernel that alllows the DPI to be changed.

I still haven't had the time to test different DPI but I would say that this seems to happen on more than 75% of the sites. And it happens both in portrait and landscape... Quite odd and annoying.

Yes. I tried the DPI trick but that didn't help at all. Its annoying cause its such a great app for news

I just cannot make this happen on mine. Go to settings and turn on full screen. Maybe that helps.

How it works on stock ROM...
Maybe its not a DPI issue? I use flipboard and was reading thru this post and I think you might possibly not realize something because you said you cannot scroll articles in flipboard, but you can. There are two different types of articles flipboard supports - both flippable and scrollable - depending on their format. For the articles that are truncated at the bottom, this indicates scrollable and I find I can scroll them vertically by swiping. For the article types that are flippable, they are not scrollable or truncated and usually there is a page number and an arrow in the lower right corner but not always. On multi-article preview pages the articles are truncated with "..." and you have to click to get the full article. The only time I have seen truncation in a flippable article is with a large font headline that sometimes goes off the bottom of the screen but it is rare.
The screen shots you post look like a scrollable article to me. I thought all articles were only flippable until I realized there were two different types supported. The Guardian articles scroll on my device.
@sbdags hey mate, isn't The Guardian even a UK publication and you didn't know you could scroll it in flipboard? The Queen would not be impressed. (haha)
Screenshot for a flippable article with headline truncation

I have the same issue with flip board. I'm almost to the point of not using because I can read the bottom of pages. If you touch the bottom bar, it will give you a share menu. Clear and the bar remains transparent but it still clips the last line.

Regarding the OPs problem, it was scrollable and the user did not realize this. That's why it was truncated.
Regarding your problem, a different problem, try *un-checking* "use full screen" in settings. Settings is the gear icon under "My Flipboard". Then the share menu is always there and there is no more flyout and no more truncation. See the screenshot from my last post. The share menu is always there on my device because I have that setting un-checked, and I have no problems with truncation for any flippable articles.
[Edit] I should add the statement that I use my tablet in landscape mode 99% of the time, so the above and my last post for that matter I am not sure about anything in portrait mode.

Yes, the text goes off the bottom and sometimes an entire sentence will be covered and unreadable.
I've enabled/checked fullscreen but don't see any difference in the app. I still have an android menu bar and the share bar showing too so I'm not even sure if fullscreen is working

Same here. Fullscreen wasn't enabled before and still had the problem. Also, I am aware of the difference between scrollable and not. I am using CROMI Xenognesis and have selected the 213 DPI mode.
What I tried to describe about the bottom "status" bar is that in normal use, it is opaque and has the "share" buttons on it. That is what obscures the last lines of some articles. When I tap this bar, it pops up a sharing menu window. I arrow back from this and the bar is transparent and I can sometimes see the obscured lines, sometimes not.
Thanks for the replies.

Sure thing. Hmm...I just checked use full screen and my share menu is still there too, nothing looks any different so maybe after some update it is not working now. For the original OP, I just ran across another The Guardian article that was flippable but it had page numbers in the lower right corner and there was no truncation. Only point being the same publisher writes both kinds of articles (flippable, scrollable) depending on author I guess. Something to be aware of but the original OPs screenshots indicate the scrollable type.
Maybe someone can post the url of an example problem article or the info necessary to pull up the same article in flipboard so we are all on the same page looking at the same thing and then compare what we see with the same devices on different ROMs to rule that out or deem that the problem.

I won't post any of the guardian since that one seems to be debatable. Here are a few from today. In each case the first page is fine and shows the "Page 1 of X" in the lower right corner. Page 2 on however tends to cut off sentences.

This turns out to be a bit harder than expected. When I paste your links into the search function in flipboard the result is "no content". And since flipboard is customizable (users can add media providers) I may not have the same media streams as you. You need to tell me what catagory and what magazine/website you are looking at. But I can figure some of it out from the URL itself, and looking at it in a browser. I was only able to find (quickly) your second link on the front of the Science page and there is no truncation in either portrait or landscape for the second page on my device. See screenshots below. Please post back your screenshots of the same page.
[Edit] Now I can now find the other two. I had to add a subscription to All Things Digital and Popular Science.
Yields the same result. No truncation on PG 2 for any of your urls. Please post of your screenshot for the second url so we can compare. Sounds like it may be the ROM.

I'm running CROMiX 4.6.4 ODEX at the moment but this has gone on in previous versions of the ROM. If it helps I'm running Flipboard 2.0.2, 552.
Here are the screen shots. The first page shows no truncation but page 2 truncates even when the share menu is transparent.
I think I'm going to try emailing flipboard support with these pictures and the url and see what they say. I'll let you know when I get a reply.

Since you didn't post PG2 portrait so I can't compare against mine. But both our landscapes for PG2 are identical with no truncation. I do see your truncation for other pages both portrait and landscape and for the first time I see this transparency bottom bar thing. I will compare them manually.
I didn't know about this bottom bar transparency thing, more like a mode switch in my opinion, but now I saw it in one of your shots and I've been playing with it on my device and it is a very confusing, inconsistent function I might add. On page 1 I cannot make it go transparent no matter how many times I click it. The share menu just pops up. But on subsequent pages I can click the bottom bar and make the top line go away along with the publisher icon on the left but the publisher name remains and page numbers are added in the middle. The 4 icons are always on the right no matter what mode I'm in. Once it is transparent, I can't set it back to default except on page 1. I have to click it a few times usually to get it to toggle. It is very inconsistent and probably why I never realized it was there.
Is this how its supposed to work? How did you guys find out about this feature and is it documented anywhere? Have you tried not toggling this feature as this is something completely new that I didn't even know existed and don't find it particularly useful but do find it very inconsistent and frustrating. I'll play with it a bit more but if I had to make a decision today I'd have to say loose it. Especially if its related to the truncation, although it doesn't initially seem to be, I still have my doubts.
[Edit] After playing with Flipboard for a hour, changing its font size, changing the system font size, and playing with turning on and off "force gpu rending" in dev settings [which does affect the transparent menu toggle behavior] and going thru about 10 full articles, I could't get it to truncate in either portrait or landscape. Just doesn't happen on my device. I found only 1 article where the date was overlaying the body text but that's it folks. On bone stock ROM. I did discover that if your are in an article and pinch it, you will go back to the main catagory screen which is pretty cool. I didn't know about that one. But no truncation. Keep us posted what Flipboard has to say about this.

My first Android App!

Hi,
This is my first Android app, NBLauncher. It's a simple app that let you add shortcuts to apps as buttons in the notification bar (expanded view), so you can quickly launch an app from anywhere (as long as you have access to the notification bar). I've seen similar apps on the Android market, but I haven't seen one that uses multiple buttons/apps on the same notification line. NBLauncher currently allows a maximum of 15 buttons (three lines of five). After installing, launch NBLauncher from app drawer to configure what apps you want to add to notification bar. Use the up/down arrows to rearrange the order of the buttons. Make sure to click "Done" when exiting. You'll then see the NBLauncher icon on the notification bar. Pull down the notification and you'll see the buttons to launch your app. It also saves the list of apps so you when reboot the phone, it auto-starts with your configured list.
Two minor things that I haven't figure out. Maybe you guys could help.
1. Each notification line requires it's own notification icon in the bar. So if there are three lines of buttons, there will be three separate icons. I have made only one visible and the others invisible, but I have no idea how to get rid of the invisible icons while keeping the notification. Any ideas?
2. During installation of the app, Android lists accessing phone book/contact as one of the things that the app does. But I am not touching the phone book or any contact info. How can this be? How does it determine what an app could do? Based on permission? This obviously has an negative effect of scaring people away from the app
Feed backs and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.
can you give us a little screenshots before we give it a go?..
Nice, I like it, much better then App Launcher, which costs $2 right now.
I couldn't find it in the Market though, did you pull it?
Only complaint so far is that it doesn't play well with lcd density changes. I'm set at 161, so the UI is a little cramped when setting up, but the launcher in the notification tray scales perfectly and looks good. There are several market apps that don't scale well with density changes, so it's not even that big of a deal. Spare Parts, MixZing, Mint.com, and Shazam don't either, just to name a few.

If minSdkVersion is not set in AndroidManifest.xml, it assumes a minimum version of 1. In the SDK version 4(ish?), a few new permissions were added, so if minSdkVersion is below that, those permissions are included whether you need them or not. Read Phone State was among these.
TopShelf10,
I only tested the app on Droid X (my phone) and Evo 4G. Haven't test it on Samsung Galaxy series yet. I noticed button events in the notification view behave differently on Droid X and Evo 4G, so I had to code around it. I guess it's different again on the Galaxy phones. I'll need to get my hands on a Galaxy phone

Sure. As long as you site the source and keep me updated on any findings so I can update my app accordingly.
To be more specific, I think the problem is how button events/intents are handled vs. default intent of the notification content view. I'll try to post some code when I get home.

[Q] StatusBar Will Not Hide, ADW EX 1.3.3.1?

As stated above I am using ADW launcher and selecting the option, "hide taskbar" and it is not hiding. It was working perfectley until I flashed a new ROM and kernel combination. I tried setting the gesture up option to hide taskbar and it will not work either. I also tried setting a custom shortcut to close/hide taskbar but it does not work either.
Any help would be appreciated, I restarted my transformer, docked and undocked, re-installed ADW, cleared data...im at a loss of what I am doing wrong. XD

ADW was modified to not to hide the notification bar - that's one of the base principals of Honeycomb. And without that, ADW could not be uploaded with HC support to the Market.
I understand that, the bottom bar is what you are talking about. I am talking about the top status bar that consists of the "app drawer" button, the quick shortcut to change the wallpaper and a few other things.
Unless I am misunderstanding you, because I hve not recentley updated ADW and I ws able to do it last night before I flashed Revolver and Clemsyn's Kernel.

Haha I am experienced when it comes to android devices and rooted devices and I typically fix my own problems, but that answer seems like you didnt know what you were talking about or you were trying to up your post count....sorry if I come off rude, but can I get a real answer now? Then you were expressing yourself wrong. The status bar on Honeycomb is the thing you call "bottom bar", while the so called top bar is the "Action Bar" - I could not remove it either on ADW Ex 1.3.3.1, and I could not try older versions.
I exactly know what I was talking about, and yes, you did come off rude, telling me that I'm the stupid because you used the wrong term. My answer was a real answer, and it is not my fault that you were thinking another thing than the one you said.
The Action Bar can not be removed AFAIK, and I don't think it's a big problem. Try another tablet-optimized launcher, what can be edited more likely to your taste, that's the only option I see for your case.
PS: BTW I don't really care about my post count. It doesn't really describe the user, the biggest idiot can have two thousand posts, while a good modder can have a few. I'm not really a talkative type, and I don't really visit XDA (my phone is mostly supported at MoDaCo, so I was spending time there).
Sorry if I did not express my question cleary, but if you used ADW that is how it refers to that "top" bar, and I tried to edit my post quickly after realizing it appeared rude...somehow you read it within the 2 minute window I took to edit it -__-
Sent from my Transformer TF101 using XDA Premium App
Yep, I usually reply fast. I couldn't try ADW Ex when it had the old support, so I can't say anything about it, it's just that that very function does not work.
...................................
ThEiiNoCeNT,
There is a way, unfortunately not permanent, to hide the top Action Bar in ADW EX:
1. Press the "+" sign (or long-press) to add an item to your Home screen.
2. Select "Launcher Actions" from the menu.
3. Select "Hide/Show Action Bar" from the list of actions.
This will put an icon on your Home screen which will let you hide the Action Bar.
This setting should "stick" until you turn off your tablet.
Regards,
Eric

Reminds me why I run Ti Back-up...that layout is awful. I like the changes to the folders and some of the other things but the layout is terrible if you are trying to run HUBS. Anybody notice the change to the apps bar? I played with it for awhile before I restored and I am already not a fan. You can only have 11 apps in horizontal mode? Why would you limit it and force it to scroll?
My only complaint with the update it seems it has slowed down a little and gestures are not working as they should swipe up is fine but swipe down doesnt work.
I think maybe it was a rushed release like a preview of look what we can do when icys is here and such.
Hopefully adw ex is back on game soon !!!!

I’ve released a minor update with the following additions/fixes:
Option to use the dock as overlay: this means your desktop will be full size and the dock will appear over it when you show it.
When you trigger the “hide/show dockbar” action/gesture, the new status will be remembered until you show/hide it again. This is like the old option “No dock”!!

i was just finished setting up hubs, then i updated and now everything looks bad.
a lot of work for nothing.
i hope the small screen issue gets fixed asap.
Bought this today to for a dime to replace LauncherPro (which keeps FC'ing). Looks nice, but scrollable widgets are downright unusable. There is a big-time lag in every scrollable widget I try (Gmail, Calendar, Bookmarks, CNN). I thought maybe it was the gesture feature interfering, but I have them set to none and still the scrolling widgets are just way too sticky. They scroll perfectly in LP and the stock launcher, so there's definitely an issue with ADW Ex.
Anyone else have this problem? It doesn't happen if you keep your finger on the screen while scrolling, just if you swipe-scroll (like flicking through a list of emails), which is why I think it's conflicting with the swipe gesture functionality.

Have you played with the desktop scrolling speed? May not impact the widgets at all...but I am not having the same lag you are describing.

i'm glad that u went back to edit your post as all of those features are in fact working fine but u may need to change it again because all of the other options u inquired about are already available in the pro version...i can also confirm that color change does nothing

For the sake of helping u improve upon an already decent app i just wanted to post to confirm the color cange bug on the tab S...although i'm aware that it was not created to be used on our device there will definitely be a demand for a free unlimited hack from other samsung owners i'm sure. I suggest adding a list of options available in the pro version to the op so u wont get duplicate feature requests constantly throughout the thread...if i had any recommendations for u it would be to add an on/off button to the notification itself so users can just pull down the bar and make it disappear with one click just like the real toolbox instead of needing to actually open the ap, pressing menu then selecting stop. Lol...looks like i need to edit my own post because i just found out that u have a hold to disable feature built into the floating icon so nevermind on that request as i suppose thats just as good if not better. You might want to make note of that in your first post as well...along with other features/instructions because many users may not read the app description in the play store & a lil redundancy never hurts

Sorry for the confusion k0sh. Here is my earlier problem and requests:
Everything works on my Tab S 10.5 EXCEPT for CHANGING THE FLOATING TOOLBAR ICON COLOR. No matter what color I set it to it never takes. Changing the background color works fine though.
I have a couple of requests if you decide to continue to refine the app:
-Allow user to set the Floating Toolbox icon even smaller then it is now. I have it all the way down and I still find it too big on the tablet in comparison the the OEM Toolbox.
-Allow user to change icon transparency as I find it too bright
-Allow alternate icon or little round button like OEM.
Thanks again k0sh for all the attention your giving this.

Corgi is a one of a kind lock screen replacement. It transforms your standard lock in to a Feedly (RSS) reader. It’s a full app experience right when you turn ON the screen. All of this is made in a beautiful Material Design.
How it works?
Once the phone has started, you’ll see latest headlines from your favorite resources. You are still a single gesture away from unlocking your phone. But if you have a minute or two, Corgi is right here, waiting for you with the latest articles from the web. If you saw an intriguing headline, just swipe up and enjoy the article. Browse more stories by swiping to the left, it is that simple.
Corgi is made for Feedly
To make this all come true, we have partnered with the best news aggregator out there. Feedly is fast, reliable. But most importantly, thanks to the Feedly v3 Engine, it let’s you get news from anywhere. Starting with big news resources as The Verge, TechCrunch, XDA-Developers going to more local ones like Boston Business News. Allowing you to read the news, you actually care of. Note: if you are already using Feedly, you don't need to subscribe again.
Why Corgi?
If a dog is men best friend. Then corgi is the most adorable friend. We want to bring that positive mood right to your lock screen.

That's is strange, it's related to the fact that Samsung has it's own alarm, it is not that easy to tract that event. But we will do our best to solve this.
Cool App!
Although one thing that bugs me: After a reboot, the screen is black and only after I pulled down the status bar and clicked on something, the PINCode Pattern appears.
awesome!! I really like it. This is the type of lockscreen I looked for a long time
One thing that buggs me is, if I swipe to the right, it dismisses the last article so that I can't get back to it.
Also it would be nice to have an animation to the pattern lock. instead of it just popping up
**EDIT**
Also it would be nice to include Notifications or space for a widget (to use external notification widget-apps)
nice app!
flat design, fast and nice.

And yes, there will be the animation for the lock screen, in the next update I hope!

I'm glad you like it. It is a bit laggy on some devices, and it's weird. Trying to figure it out. The funny thing that it's not hardware related issue, maybe kernel or ROM settings. Since it's buttery smooth on my Moto G 2013
Very nice app. Produces pretty lockscreens. BUT it prevents Daydreams working in CM12 and I don't want the distraction of attractive news feeds facing me when I'm using the phone in my desk dock.

Is daydream a part of your standard lock screen? Also, have you tried AcDisplay app? As far as I know Corgi works ok with AcDisplay. I'll take a look if this can be fixed though!
The potential is big with this one.
Hi there!
You've piqued my interest for this app so much that I decided to sign up on XDA and post here, even though I've been using it for almost 5 years. Please continue development and make this even more awesome.
A Bug report:
Phone: Oneplus One
ROM: Euphoria ROM by Mahdi (CM12 base)
DPI: 408
I faced a critical bug somehow while running this app.
After I installed the app, everything ran smoothly until this error started showing up every two seconds.
Unfortunately, the process android.process.acore has stopped

(I looked into this error on the internet and the most common reason seemed to be due to a problem with Contacts. But as this error popped up just minutes after I installed this app, I thought otherwise.)
Whatever I tried, it went in vain. I tried rebooting the phone, clearing the data and cache for this app and all that. Zilch. The issue vanished, though, the second I uninstalled this app. No offense but I think there is a possibility that it might have something to do with your app. If I'm wrong, I'm all ears. I'm not very well versed in anything here.
Things I loved:
The animations
The way the app opened up a temp browser to display the entire content
The clean interface
Things that can be improved:
Lock pattern integration (Animation and more options)
The ability to show the Navigation bar translucently instead of going immersive. This is frustrating a little as when ever I pull down the status bar, the nav bar comes up as well causing the lockscreen to seemingly stutter to accommodate the change. I hope you get this.
The color filter that you superimpose over the article while turning the screen on is nice, but can get rather striking at times. I think it would be better if the colors were a little subdued and if the images had a factor of blurriness in them to make the items like Date and Time on the lockscreen more legible.
An option to view the newsfeed as a stream of news articles by swiping up and down.
I see that there is a default image that you use for articles that do not have one? I request you to use a nicer one Because I see a busy street somewhere in Asia as the default pic and it isn't doing justice to the good aesthetics of this app
Thanks a ton for this app. If some of the issues here and there are ironed out, I don't see why it wouldn't become my daily driver!

Firstly, thank you for you feedback! It's great to see that the app made you interested. Concerning your bug, we will take a look at it. If you could send us a log, that would be great. To do so, after the crash go to the Corgi app, swipe right and press "Leave Feedback". When you send it, it will attach a log, this helps us to trace crashes etc.
Concerning your feedback. The immersive more, color filter, lock patter animations, will be there once we have menu settings fully ready. We just need some more time. News feed as a stream is something bothering our minds for a while now. We will have it, but not soon. There are some ideas, but we have to rewrite the whole app for that
notifications?
Is there any plans for showing notifications on top of the news items ?

daydream is baked-in feature of CyanogenMOd based roms (not sure if it's the AOSP source). It simply initiates one of a number of pre-set functions when plugged-in, docked or both, after a given unused elapsed time.
I've never used AcDisplay - never needed to as Daydream normally works fine. I'm not keen on installing additional apps to bring back functionality lost or inhibited by others - that way you just clog you system up with more and more useless code.
I will certainly drop back and see if this issue gets fixed though as I do like your app
Cheers

First of all thank you. This is a beautiful app that truly defines how beautiful an app can be following material design guidelines. I hope to see more features in it soon. so far so good. Animations are smooth and nice. Layout is excellent. Color layers are gorgeous.
Now after using this app for a couple of hours here are a few things that could be improved.
- When I turn the screen ON my notification drop down panel is extended. I have to swipe up to make it go away and look at the news articles on lock screen. Reading your comment above [quoted] doesn't seem like its intended behavior.
- Reading an article by swiping up on lock screen or moving to another article by swiping left doesn't mark that article as "read". Which means that if I go back to Feedly, all articles I have scrolled past on Corgi are still there. It would be better if this functionality can be added.
- Lock screen runs in "immersive mode". Which means if I swipe up from the bottom of screen I can make the navigation bar to show. However one I make it appear and click on any navigation key it sticks to the screen and doesn't go away.
Feature Request:
I have a lot of feeds coming into Feedly. Is it possible to "pin" a single feed or multiple to show on lock screen instead of all feeds? Plus if the order of feeds could be re-arranged inside Corgi would be really nice to have feature.
Device Info: Oneplus One
Rom: Tuga Power (CM12) vs 55
DPI: 500 (on this DPI this lockscreen is absolutely beautiful and smooth).
Once again, great work and keep the updates coming.
