Ok so last time I flash Trickdroid I had problems with wifi not working (even after doing the WiFi fix) and some ppl mentioned i needed to downgrade the Hboot or wait for T-mobile JB update (thats how long ago it was), So now since the update is out do I need to Flash the RUU of T-mobile JB in order to update my Hboot or what exactly? My Vennom is acting up on me some times and i wana test some other ROMS
Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Rereading it, it seems that you actually had an hboot that was newer and couldn't flash radios. S-OFF resolves this issue alone if you're not interested in getting the latest firmware update or if you already actually have it.
ORIGINAL POST:
I've heard you don't need to, but I did it and I'm very happy that I did. I think it helped improve my call quality greatly compared to my older 1.06 hboot. Just remember to S-OFF or else you'll have difficulties flashing kernels and radios later.
I was in a similar scenario and was using AOSP based roms until I decided to switch back to Sense and started using ViperOneS 2.2.0
Basically I this in order:
- SuperCID
- S-OFF
[Decided to switch back to Sense at this point]
- Backup SD card data [I forgot to do this, stupid me]
- Updated my hboot from 1.06 to 2.something latest from T-Mobile using instructions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250573
- Reunlocked my phone after upgrading the firmware [this wipes your SD card]
- Reflashed TWRP 2.3.3 (Sense installation compatible, check the rom's page)
- Flashed Viper 2.1
- Booted up
- Flashed Viper 2.2 OTA update rom
And started to like my phone again with Sense 4+ and Android 4.1.1
Best thing is that Wifi Tether works great with the 1.13 radio and Viper 2.2

hi all
i recently bought an htc one S and bricked it of course on the first very few hours ("e:\cant mount sd" in recovery) ,
later on tried to repair with Tmobile RUU with-out success ,but i guess during this trial and error i have updated my hboot to 1.14
found a solution to mount the sd through a recovery and format it in windows and then re-partition it in the recovery
finally it was alive again ,and i installed TrickDroid v7
yesterday after updating to AOKP rom ,i had no wi-fi signal ,tried to search for a solution to update radio in order to resolve the issue ,
found a flashable file and flashed it in TWRP without success ,laer on i have found that it cant be done using hboot above 1.13
now i have read at cm9moddev website (sorry cant post links im new here ,google "update radio htc one s" 3rd result),and i quote:
"Although we do not have S-OFF yet, it is possible to update/downgrade the radio without using an official RUU......"
"....In some cases you may experience wifi issues. If this happens you have to update other firmware partitions. This should be done via official RUU/OTA and will (for now) not be covered here."
so ,can someone please help regarding the process of upgrading/downgrading the radio in order to fix wifi issues with custom roms
we can't. the only thing you can do is change to an AOKP rom that comes with radio build in it

I updated my HTC ONE S (S4) with this rom and the radio did not update.
I am using 1.14 hboot, trying to restore my wifi.
You can downgrade your HBOOT, use the downgrade thread stickied in the dev section
Recently went back to stock 1.78 (from cm9) to try and get the latest OTA update, but it only gives me the 4.0.4 update.
Im currently on radio 0.16 but want to get the latest radio (1.11?) before putting a JB rom on.
Its been ages since ive done much with my phone since i was happy with cm9 but ive managed to get supercid and s-off so far. Now I understand the process to flash the radio, but I dont know where to find the latest radio. Can you simply take the radio.zip out of the latest OTA thats linked around here somewhere or is there more to it?
Hope that makes sense,
Thankyou.
On 1.06 or s-off this way. You should use TWRP recovery so.
The thing you'll see is called aroma installer. Just tag the radio you want and it'll be flashed. There is a sense and an AOSP/AOKP version of that installer.
There isn't a collection of radio's somewhere that you can permanently flash? Thought it'd be quite easy now with s-off.
The sense stuff will be written permanently to a partition on the phone.
The AOKP/AOSP radio will be flashed to a folder, as e.g. CM 10/10.1 and derivates load it from a folder. The radio needs to be reflashed only when flashing a new AOKP/AOSP rom (as that folder gets deleted). So it's 'temporarily'.
The aroma installer imho is the easiest way to flash a new/different radio. No need to carry around a machine with you to fastboot flash.
What's the most compatible radio version for Jelly Bean Sense ROMs?
I'm running TrickDroid 9.1.0 right now, since it was the only one that worked well with my HBOOT (1.14.0004) / Radio (1.08ts.50.02.16), but the wifi and GPS don't work.

I'm going to have to look up how to update the radio. Hopefully that will fix the Wifi glitch on my current ROM. I'd like to do a bit of tethering next week.
i have one problem, i installed venom rom 2.40 for my icecreamsandwich mobile,i also flashed ota,can i update to jelly bean,i am in india and using unlocked htc onex att with vodafone, when icheck about>software updates>check now>then it is cheking long time but doesnt give me answer what should i do? i have hboot 1.13 ,iota 2.4 to 2.41
You will typically not receive OTA updates if you are not in the intended country for the device (i.e. not in the US for the AT&T branded model).
Also, having a custom ROM will often prevent you from receiving OTA notifications. Additionally, OTA will fail, even if you somehow were successful in downloading it, if custom recovery is installed (stock recovery is required for OTA installation).
Furthermore (and possibly most importantly) if you are SuperCID (likely, since you are rooted and AT&T) and S-on, the Jellybean OTA or RUU will brick your phone. So you should probably be thankful, that you did not get the OTA and installed it.
Since you are already rooted, bootloader unlocked, and have custom recovery; if you want to be on Jellybean, I would just advise to install the updated version of ViperXL in the Development forum section. Or another Jellybean custom ROM.
Another option, if you want stock Jellybean, is to flash a rooted stock ROM. But I personally don't recommend it. Custom ROMs like ViperXL and others (CleanROM, etc.) are based on stock, but cleaned of all the bloatware, and with some really nice features and functionality added.
Alternately, if you still want to go completely stock Jellybean, you must either change back to the AT&T CID, or S-off. Then download the RUU and run it. Again, if you try to run the RUU with SuperCID and S-on, you will brick the device (not fixable short of JTAG). So you must either change from SuperCID, or S-off before running the RUU.
There are some upsides and downsides to running the JB RUU:
Good:
- Radio, and other firmware (in addition to the ROM) will be updated.
- JB RUU is recommended prior to installing some JB custom ROMs
Bad:
- You will be on stock recovery again, and need to install custom recovery again if you want to install custom ROMs
- Touch panel firmware will be upgraded, so AOSP ROMs will not work without downgrading the touch panel firmware
- You will need to root again (or install a rooted custom ROM)
- Tons of AT&T bloatware and broken functionality (such as WiFi hotspot and tethering)
I miss my old Viper One S ROM and after a replacement phone I'm on HBoot 2.15 with JB, I think the partitions are all changed and although I can install Viper One S perfectly, the wifi partitions no longer work. Obviously I'm trying to run an ICS based ROM on a JB base but surely there must be a way.
Have partitions changed so much in the JB base and latest HBoot that I need an updated version of wifi partitions or is it just not possible?

I remember of flashable wifi partition in the one s development forum they were released by Zarboz. Try searching in the beastmode bricked kernel thread. Anyway team venom just released viper 3.0.0 based on jb 4.2.2 and sense 5! I suggest you trying that. Sense 5 is much better than 4 and ICS. It also has a lot more customizations.
Current situation
4.2.2 sense 5.0
htcdev unlocked/rooted
s-on
hboot 2.19
radio 1.20.40d.00.22
os 1.32.1402.3
kernel 3.4.10
recovery cwm 6.0.3.6
horrible chinese carrier (are carriers ever good?)
here's what i think needs to be done
0. make a nandroid backup
1. Get s-off http://rumrunner.us/instructions/
2. Write supercid via adb http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2573479 or http://androidforums.com/sensation-4g-all-things-root/636482-guide-how-supercid.html
3. update firmare via adb http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2759131
5. update rom to stock with sense 6 http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...-official-stock-sense-6-rom-firmware-t2817921
6. flash candyrom http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-mini/orig-development/rom-t2825888
anything i've left out or can leave out? thanks in advance
Also is it worth switching to twrp? i figure it's unnecessary...
EDIT: gracious I'm confused. This (old) thread suggests s-off is unnecessary, though my understanding is that more recent roms incl. candyrom are likely to have issues without updating hboot, which requires s-off right?
