i m trying to update the firmware of my asus tf700t and all i get when i use the power and volume down recovery is the droid that wants to install but then falls over with the exclamation mark. dont know why it wont update. any ideas? any tricks?

Did you download updated firmware, unzip it, rename the zip in the zip appropriately as outlined in guides, put it in the root directory of your external sdcard formatted for FAT32, all before you entered recovery?

yep did all of the above. since my device is unlocked I cant do the ota update. and everytime I run the update from the SD card it shows the red exclamation mark. I reset my tablet but that didn't help. I cant update to anything newer. no matter how I do it (when the tablet shows that there is an update or when I do It with the power button and the volume down)

Tell me all about your system. You said you are unlocked. Lets gather some info for the next guy to help you. Do you have a custom ROM or recovery? Have you ever? Are you rooted? Have you ever upgraded after unlocking this way?
As a fallback, you can try to copy the update.zip file to the root directory of your INTERNAL sdcard and repeat the stock recovery process and see if that works. If not you will have to wait for someone else to help you. I have no experience with unlock, just root. I think you can flash with Goo but I am not at all sure. Wait for some who knows for sure. There is no margin for error when flashing!

I am guessing the way you speak you never installed a custom recovery? What version are you on(not 4.2.1 or 4.1.1, but the ROM number) and have you ever flashed a custom ROM? Just wanna get this aired a bit.

My 2 cents worth: Did you uninstall or freeze any system or Asus apps or anything that came with the tablet? If you did you'll have to restore them or the stock update will fail.
Another question: If you're unlocked, why by all means are you on stock????

I agree with you there. I was thinking if he cannot get the stock recovery to work correctly, depending on the boot loader he is on, he could install a custom recovery and flash the stock kernel from there, but until there is more specifics given on his tablet's state a definite way cannot really be given.

well i have to admit that i didnt think that rooting would be that complex/complicated and from my old days with the iphone unlocking always seemed like a good idea. (i know better know.)
i will probably end up rooting it.
the update doesnt work in general....i reset my tablet back to (i think it was ) 4.1.1 and download the 2 versions afterwards but both dont work. the first update i made was OTA before i unlocked. afterwards no update possible.
i have to look up my bootloader later and will post the information.

Iphone unlocking is not android boot loader unlocking. Unlocking an iphone is to make it so you can use it on multiple carriers. Jailbreaking the iphone gives root rights to the user, though the hardware is not very detailed and is not as controllable as on android. Rooting gives root rights and is mostly for backup purposes. Unlocking your boot loader on android(talking TF700 here because they just give you access to your recovery partition, not the whole boot loader) gives you access to write whatever you want to your recovery partition. Kinda like your motherboard bios, for nothing can be done if they become corrupted.

ahhh i understand...thank you.
and yes. unzipped it...put it on sd card....then in the lower right corner where the time is and where it tells me that is downloading files it told me that an update is found and ready to be installed and if i want to install it. i clicked yes....it shut down and started up with the droid all happy....and then it fell over with the red exclamation mark.
i guess i will just root it...and hope that i wont brick it.

Rooting wont fix the problem. May I ask, since you mentioned something about is in the op, did you use the unlock tool from ASUS? Meaning when the tablet boots is says "This Device is unlocked" in the upper left hand corner?

Thats what i did. so yes it says the device is unlocked in the upper left hand corner. does that have any influence on things?

Ok then you need to root, then download GooManager. Using Goomanager, install TWRP, which is a custom recovery. Boot into recovery and flash the stock ROM from there. Then it will wipe out TWRP and you will be 100% stock again with new boot loader and recovery.

i got it to work. the trick was to copy the file to the internal memory. (i did that before i wiped my system and it didnt work then and now i just tried it again out of desperation and it worked). i was suprised since i expected the red exclamation mark again. so i m officially on 4.2.1

Awesome! Glad I could help. Please thank my meter (click the thanks button). Its always a good thing to know more than one way to do something. _that 's a trick not well published.
[Edit] If it worked on your internal memory after the wipe but still didn't on your external memory, then something is wrong with the external sdcard. Its either not FAT32 or its corrupt and you should consider reformatting it with GNU GParted (live). On Windows, you'll need to download the iso image and burn that to a CD or DVD, which makes it bootable. Then all you may possibly have to do is reorder your boot devices in your BIOS so the CD/DVD comes before the HDD so if you have a bootable disk in the player at boot it will boot from CD/DVD. Stick it in there and try to boot off it first. Some (most?) newer PCs should already have this BIOS boot order as stock. If not, change it.
Alternately, a better or more convenient option if your PC supports it would be do basically the same thing as above except flash the iso to a flash thumb drive and boot from that. Your choice. I use a free Windows program called Astroburn Lite which can burn or flash iso's to either media. Does files too.

I recently purchased a Asus Transformer, and being the android nerd I am I immediately began my rooting. After I rooted it, I began to look up roms and such. I decided to put the revolution HD Tom on it. I booted into recovery, wiped data, wiped cache, wiped dalvic, and than processed to flash the rom it flashed and said rom installed successfully. I rebooted and now nothing. I understand the wait time for boot but its been over 30 mins. I almost possitive its off and bricked. I need help as I only know how to unbrick a moto device. :/

NVFlash is only going to work if you have SBK v1.
Did you check the MD5Sum of the ROM file before flashing?

It is the Secure Boot Kit of the device.
Look at your TF serial number: if you have B7O, B8O, B9O it should have the new version of SBK (v2). If it's the case, you CAN'T use NVFlash method to unbrick at the moment.
Look at this link to be able to check the SBK version of your TF:

Well if I can't turn on the device and I cant tell if its off than how can I get it into the mode asked? If that makes sence.

Have you tried to force turn-off?
If not so, press and hold the power button for 10-20 seconds.
Then try to enter CWM recovery (or to boot normally).
Have you also tried to put it to charge? (Just to see if something happens).
EDIT: Did you eventually checked the serial # (On the box or on the back bottom part of the TF) ? If you have a B6O or lower, you can quite surely use NVFlash.
Tf101 is on the bottom as soon as I leave bdubs ill check to see if I can force it off and than enter recovery.

At the bottom of your transformer is a sticker if it says b60 you can use nvflash
If you have checked that then just look in the dev thread and you will find all you need about nvflash

Actually you need to read the FIRST three letters of the serial.
If it is a B6O, you're lucky
I have a B7O SBKv2, so I didn't used NVFlash, but you can find clear instructions here:

I have this problem and resolved with super wipe full script ( find in first post of revolution hd rom )
For use it, just download, put in sd card, run it on recovry ( install zip ... )
After wipe, I install revolver rom

Hi everyone,
I have tried to read most of the 92 pages and still have not solved my problem.
The situation is as follows:
- I had a perfectly fine Asus Transformer B40 running Revolver 3.11 ROM with CPU OCed @ 1.6 Panda.test. While I was browsing the web the TF shut off and since then I cannot turn it on properly (boot into the OS).
- after failed attempts to reflash I wanted to get back to stock + unroot.
- I followed the steps from the first post here, I have a US version B40. I downloaded the US latest firmware from the first post and then ran the .bat file. Everything went fine and it restarted.
- then I did just this: hold vol- and power until you get the option to erase your data.... Select the option to wipe data.
Now the problem is more or less the same: I boot up the device, it shows the ASUS logo with the spinning wheel and then it turns off or reboots continuously. Sometimes it gets after the logo to the Select Language or Country screen. Touchscreen works. But then it reboots again. Every time it does that there is also a small hardware click sound.
I have also tried to manually reflash with firmware from Asus website but I still get the Android robot with an exclamation mark inside.
I just got this for Christmas, hope you can help me somehow as I don't know what to do...

Just walked a friend through the downgrade on his B70 over the phone, he is rooted and running PRIME 2.1.1 in less than an hour.
First, get the WW_epad-user(blah blah) 8.6.6.19.zip update (downgrade/update, available in the dev section stickies), be sure it is the 8.6.6.19, not 8.6.5.19. Place the file on your SD card in the root, also make a copy and rename it
EP101_SDUPDATE.zip
(make sure your SD card is FAT32 formatted too, this has caused problems for some I have read). If these files are placed in the root of your external SD card then when booting into recovery mode it *should* find one of these two files and ask to install the 'update'. Once updated, install razorclaw and recoveryinstaller, grab the updated CWM installer with the 8.6.6.21 patch on it, available in the dev section, and then flash your new ROM over this patch (apparently you can't flash the patch over anything but a stock ROM, so if you already have a flashed ROM you need to flash back to stock ROM, search around instructions and files are available on xda).
If when you boot into recovery (vol - and pwr, vol+ on prompt) it doesn't tell you it is installing, give it some time, others have reported that the android/yellow triangle screen is actually good to see and will install updates on this screen even though it isn't notifying you (can't confirm from first hand, but what I have read on this site from other users), if it doesn't though, try rebooting normally, other users have said the update installs from notification bar in stock android OS (this confuses me too..). If recovery mode nor rebooting installs the downgrade, double check that you have the correct files, named correctly..try on another SD card, reformat to FAT32, etc. from what I understand even though it's different for some users there is some good success flashing back to the 8.6.6.19 build from the .21. Good luck, tell us if you fix it and how!

Before you flash revolution, you were supposed to flash superwipe then the rom, if you havent already go do so.

Hi never ming the post #5 it's fine my wifi work... now wath is my next step do i put a costum firmware?
Damn im dont have root access i have install the app for androis Root checker and it telling me Root access : no access and i have put on my tab the App from Asus and the app tell me Success when i have rebooted but the checkers still give me no acess !!!....
You need the dock or the USB adaptor for the Transformer. Plug in your PS3 controller with the USB cable and it should work immediately. After a few minutes of use it should work over Bluetooth when you unplug it.
This is all I do to use mine, no custom apps and not unlocked. I have root but I don't think it has any effect.

Hi im confused i have done exacly all the thing in this vide
it's went well i have got the blue line like said in the video i have type in the dos the reboot sequence it's as rebooted , i have shut down the asus pad press volume down and hold power to enter Cwm recovery and it show the same as beore i do this i go RCK , android , Usb Icon and Wipe data thats all i dont have the menu of Cwm ... so wath is the probleme did i miss a step ???? my Asus says when i reboot Device is unlocked so...dont have a clue why it's not working like on the video...

but you 1st have to flash a Custom recovery via fastboot.
If you have the 4 icons you are already on JB, so you need TWRP JB version to flash. The older recoveries will not work.
i have done the flash with Fastboot i have done with the help of this video How to: Root ASUS TF300 + CWM Recovery (Works on ALL Firmware) on youtube and this website has it to so i have done the exact procedur and i did not have the Cwm Recovery , i hold volume down and power the 3 line apper i press up volume a 4 line appear ans say Booting recovery kernel image and stay stuck in it , i power down the Asus and boot up normal....

I'm wondering if the video you followed didn't take into account jellybean which has different partitioning. If you like cwm, go to the Dev section and get recovery cwm v6.0.1.2. Flash it in like you did the other recovery and that should work. I can't say for sure in your case though because you've already flashed in recovery that doesn't work but I guess we Will see.

This worked great for me using the cwm v6.0.1.2 recovery, and if done correctly will also give you root by flashing in the zip using cwm recovery once you get that installed and working.

thanks anyway look to much complicated im afraid to brick my pad and does not work anymore.. my tablet will stay unlocked for nothing i'll wait to see if theres a video step by step i prefere that way....
So here is the long story.. Over the summer I had unlocked my bootloader and rooted my tablet. I did have a rom on it but i decided to go back to stock because my family and I were going to go on vacation and I wouldn't have access to a computer if something were to mess up. I then returned home and was going to root it again and install a custom recovery. I tried to plug it in to my laptop and it said that the device had an error and could not be read and that it malfunctioned. I had never seen this before. I could charge it and use it on my keyboard dock correctly but my computer would not recognize it at all. I then contacted ASUS support and they just fed me with bull****. I played their game and reinstalled drivers, factory reset it, tried a different computer, all of that and NOTHING would work. I then sent it to them just to see if they could fix it. They had it for almost 2 months and sent it back because I had unlocked the bootloader. Ever since I had gotten it back, it has been the absolute slowest tablet in the world. It lags 24/7 and it is almost boiled down to a piece of ****. I cannot connect it to a laptop of computer in hopes of putting CM on it to fix it. Can anyone please offer me any advice!!! Is there a way to use an app to somehow root it, should I buy a new usb cord if that could be the case, something??!??!!! FYI my bootloader is still unlocked and I am running stock (US version) 10.4.2.17. Thank you.

Even if you flash stock JB on your tablet, after having CWM or TWRP on it, that shouldn't replace your custom recovery. You should still be able to get into recovery by shutting off the tablet and then booting up holding vol/d and power and then selecting RCK. From there you can flash any ROM you want even if you are no longer rooted.
I'm not 100% about this but i'm pretty sure.

Actually I think if you flash a stock ROM, your recovery is wiped, but you can put it back easily since you're unlocked. If you made any backups to internal storage, those will stay if you don't wipe the data partition. Flashing stock ROM doesn't erase data, just the system partition.

Well I honestly dont care about keeping data or not, its all cloud for me. I got into the recovery and I wasnt able to get past the screen where there is the android logo with the red triangle and a "!" in it. I thought there was some key combination with the power and volume key but i couldnt get to the recovery menu. If i were able to navigate that could I somehow add CWM or TWRP???

OK so stock out of the box, you have no recovery. That's why you get the droid with the red triangle when you try to access it. You have none. You must download recovery and flash it in. I recommend twrp. You can find links and instructions in the Dev section.
If you have recovery and flash a stock ROM, you lose it because where recovery is gets written over during flash, but you can easily reload it. That's what I have to do every time Asus releases an update - no sweat.
You must have your bootloader unlocked before you can do anything I just said.

If you are getting the android with the red triangle then you need to flash recovery again. Sorry about that, I thought it stayed when you flashed stock roms but obviously not.
So yeah, just flash TWRP again and you can flash the ROM of your choice.

Ok I understand what you guys are saying and all and I have looked up ways to root and recovery my tablet. But I cannot connect this to a computer! I cannot make a stable connection for some reason, therefore I cannot access ADB to somehow flash the recovery to my tablet. I am stuck with the stock recovery with an unlocked bootloader and can't connect to a computer at all.

Then do it right on the tablet. Instructions to do that are on game same site where you get twrp.

ADB can also be done over wifi. I've never used it but know quite a few who have.

I just did a quick search on Google and there looks to be a way to use wireless adb on non rooted devices. You may be able to get it done if you do a little reading. Not sure if it'll work on our tablet. It's worth checking into though.
Well I just got a new USB connector for the TF300 and it now works!!! I rooted and installed cm10.1 and all is well Mods can delete

So I pretty much bricked my tablet and can't get into the recovery or fastboot menus and now I'm stuck at the Asus logo screen.
I've searched high and low for a way to un-brick my tablet and get it back in working order but no dice...
My question is.... Do you think/know if there will be a way to un-brick these tablets (without NVflash) in the future? I would send it in to ASUS but I literally just received it back from them due to a screen manufacturing defect.
I just wonder if someone out there has managed to do it and hasn't shared their knowledge or if someone is working on something right now.

I unlocked the tablet and tried installing Twrp recovery on it. It froze every time I tried booting into recovery so I opened the fastboot menu and hit "Wipe Data" now it just sits at the boot screen with "The device is unlocked" in the corner

Yeah, I think we are screwed. I have fastboot and recovery, but my recovery is the TWRP that doesn't support 4.2.1. Fastboot says is flashes, but it doesn't. It just hangs.
Without the ability to flash a working recovery, I'm afraid we can't fix it. It sucks, I bought my tablet 11 months ago. Waiting for the warranty to be almost over before i flash it. If I would have waited 2 days, I would be fine.
From what I read, Asus wants between $80 and $200.
i thought this was well know by now but by using that wipe data button you brick, completely. you cannot recover. DO NOT EVER USE "WIPE DATA" in bootloader menu. there needs to be a massive banner or something that says this when you enter the tf300 forums IMO.

Have you tried fastboot flashing the latest version of TWRP?
If you haven't tried it yet, I would recommend you follow the instruction in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2187982
to install a patched TWRP recovery image (2.4.4.0). This should then let you reinstall a copy of the downloadable ROM from the Aus website.
Once you have installed the update you must re-install the same TWRP 2.4.4.0 again because the Asus ROM update over writes the TWRP recovery files.

lol - but who would hit something without knowing what will happen? I wouldn't dare choose this "wipe data" without knowing, what it means
You can enter wipe data from bootloader menu, when your twrp is working. When your TWRP doesn't exist, wipe data will brick your tablet. So maybe in the future we will be able to install mod which will change icon from Wipe Data to picture with Brick

Because it works if your on all stock. and apparently it can work if your twrp is working right, although i say dont even risk it. But im sure it was not known by asus when they put it in there. These tabs are just finiky like that... especially when it comes to recovery

Because it's fine with their stock firmware. They don't want you to root it and change it, because they didn't take the proper precautions to prevent bricks. I'm sure they also don't mind the free $$$ for fixing bad flashes. There is a reason why unlocking voids their warranty. They want to charge you to fix it.
I honestly can't imagine ASUS replacing the motherboard of the tablet just to fix it they must be doing something software wise.... I just wonder what it is to fix my damn tablet

im sure they have the files and knowledge to restore the tablet through apx mode. they probably use something like nvflash actually..

I think that they shouldn't replace motherboard, they only need replace nand memory. They do this for money!
I imagine it must be easier to train employees how to change the motherboard then to flash. Then just have 1 or 2 guys flash motherboards and sort them.
Or they could just be lying and just hook it up to a computer that sends the special stuff needed to flash unrestricted. Then charge you an insane amount for at most 20-30 minutes.
I'm mailing mine off today, won't get to TX until Tuesday since the weekend is here. But I think I'll get mine back before March is out. I'm not happy about the money. I waited for my warranty to be over before I decided to unlock. I killed it by being stupid. i just hope it's not more then the $87 quoted.
This tablet felt slow, never fast. App switching and soft keyboard lag was a big one. I attributed that to the crap flash memory they put in. IO is just as important as CPU/RAM. I think all owners will agree with that. I believed those that they custom firmware is so much better and the tablet speed is improved. I still do. Just sucks I have to pay quite a bit of money to get it fixed and not having a tablet for a few weeks.
Hey guys. Semi newb here. I unlocked my TF300t a while back on the first offical JB update from ASUS. I then followed all the steps to unlock it and use fastboot to install TWRP. This was months back. I have been steadily updating CleanROM Inheritance as the revisions are released.
This latest revision to 3.4.4 flash was easy....as always. I wiped all and installed. When the system came back up I noticed my wifi was broken. I couldnt get it to initialize. So I booted to recovey so I could wipe all and reflash again just in case. Well, TWRP asked me for a password. Ive never encrypted my tablet nor have I used passwrods in the past as I know they can cause issues with access or permissions. I can hit cancel and use twrp but it wont mount anything or allow me to do anything until I 'decrypt' it. Not sure where to go from here. I guess Id like to flash the new official 4.2 from asus but I need advice on how to do this using fastboot.
Any help or pointers are welcomed. I only used the fastboot once to install twrp so I dont completely remember how to use it or if I can use it to flash a full ROM to hopefully reset the tablet. Thanks for any help! Cause I am stumped...
EDIT:

It sounds like you flashed the 4.2 update, as that has a new bootloader which causes the behavior you describe. Did you update it to 4.2 before flashing? If so, then check the threads associated with rooting/recovery with 4.2. Basically, you need to install a patched TWRP 2.4.4.0.

Hey thanks for the reply! Actually, no I was not installing 4.2. I would like to install a newer version of twrp but I cant do anything in twrp because it says its encrypted. I did read that other thread but all the options given are not available to me. I cant get to fastboot.
BUT heres an update:
I got the PC to recognize my device as a Transformer. But I couldn't get the naked drivers nor the newer Asus drivers to work. So I modified the .ini file for both the MTP install and USB driver install to include the Hardware ID shown in windows under device manager properties for the device. Basically I modded the .ini so that it also looks for the device ID, then saved and had windows look at the folder I gain to install the driver and this time is installed. So now I am going to try to use a fastboot command....Ill update if this works. Otherwise I may need to try adb and Im a total newb at adb...
UPDATE:
Got the driver installed but 2 issues:
1: Device manager says Device Cannot Start
2: I cant get recovery menu to show. Tablet goes right into TWRP recovery after looping through the ASUS boot screen twice.
I am stumped. I don't want to give up but I think I may have to

I can boot into APX but since I never loaded NVFLASH I was screwed. Nothing I did to try to force it into download mode worked. Bootloader must be screwed. In any case, I went on ebay and bought a TF300T mainboard that was pulled from a damaged screen unit. It was 80 bukcs and should be here soon. I figure 80 bucks is better that 180 from ASUS or drop another 300-400 on a new tablet. I wish there was a JIG for the tablet. I used it on a SG SII once.

300-400? buy nexus10 for strong cpu and gpu. and retina display. asus build quality very bad. And support only need money.

Nexus 10 has it's drawbacks too, I love my TF300T.
UPDATE:
Installed new mainboard and got her back up and running quickly. Already updated to 4.2.1. I like it. Well done ASUS!

Lol. I love my TF300T. Sure, i can buy a better tablet but I would also have to spend a lot more money. I've only got $299 invested in my 32gb tablet plus $49 in my dock. I'm a happy camper. My tablet , when connected to the dock, will last almost twice as long as the Nexus on one charge. I can also keep using the tablet while the dock is charging. I really never even need to put the tablet itself into the charger. You can't do that with the more expensive Nexus 10.

This feature is one of the reasons I love this tab. I'm having the same problem as op. I can still get into my 4.2 is though but cannot get recovery to read anything. Maybe ill have to wait for a twrp update.
For now as long as the tab works I can deal with it. I would like to get it working the right way again though.

Have you added the patch yet? This will allow TWRP to pick up your sd card.
I tried flashing the patched one via fastboot but it did not seem to take. Its still encrypted. I'm thinking its not flashing properly. I'm not the only one having this issue. Hopefully I can just wait it out till a fix is found. I'm afriad of screwing it up to where its completely unuseable.
