Improved speed and no more purple fringing, also semi transparent status bar? Seems like a pretty big update. 400mb or so and was just pushed to Deutsch international phones.

Sadly AT&T won't release any update until they see market benefit from it... Maybe next iPhone release day?

This is a patch, not an update. And AT&T has already released one patch for the S4 so why would you say they won't do it again?

Here's an English website that talks about the update.

i have a stock, rooted, TWRP recovery, odexed firmware and when i tried to do an OTA update it said that my device was modified
is there any way of getting this update even if i did have a "modified device"?
i doubt bell would give it to me but would it be possible for someone on xda to port the update so that everyone in my position can use it or am i going to be forced into upgrading to a custom rom.
i realy friggin want that transparent status bar

On the I9505 Site there is a prerooted Odin flashable copy of the newest German version, odexed and soon a deodexed.
Maybe one of our developers will get this into a Zip flashable version.

I wouldn't do that.

If we do get this update anytime soon i would not flash it because it could have a patch for the boot loader hack.

**Move Apps to SD Card**
Thats enough reason for me to want some variant of this firmware update when and if its possible with a rooted and cwm recovery device such as mine... I hate not being able to move apps to the SD card when there is so little space. Ive thought of going with a custom rom but i use some of the TouchWiz stuff do I dont want to lose it.

Someone on another forum is reporting that you can only move APPS and not DATA, for example, GTA3 is only 15 megs for the app, but several gigs for data. Same goes with Google Music... songs saved is DATA and not APP.

If you are still on the Stock ROM you can do this:
1. Unfreeze AT&T updater (if you have it frozen)
2. Use ODIN to return to stock WITHOUT performing a factory reset. AdamOutler has a thread with the stock firmware download in the Android Development section
3. Boot up and check for updates
4. After you have updated, root it again
All your apps and settings will remain, and you may have to re-sign-in to some, but you should be good to go.

Wait till its released as a flashable zip then done.

When it is available do you flash with ODIN or via custom recovery (TWRP).
I am rooted with STOCK everything at the moment. Could I just remove root, update OTA and then re-root?

F2 to HE update?

I bought my S3 used and it was already unlocked but from what I can tell still had the stock ROM (base version says it is I535VRLF2 but DEVICE STATUS says it is modified). When it powers up, I do not get a CWM or TWMP screen -- it goes directly to the normal startup so I am not sure what the previous owner loaded/did. I do not see any folders in the root folder (using ES FIle Explorer) for CWM and nothing in DATA/BACKUP (EDIT: just saw build number is VRALG7)...
Today I got a notice about an OTA upgrade (to HE) and got help on how to freeze it (as I did not want to lose root and all the customization I did to some files) but now I am wondering what changes were made from F2 to HE. I did find a post that talks about the HE upgrade.
Was F2 the previous OTA for the S3, or did my phone miss other OTAs? And if so, I am missing out on some important changes where I should let the OTA happen and then go and unlock the phone again? I read a number of threads about 'the new radio' which I assume is software to improve the phone or WIFI. Am I missing out?
Thanks
Frank

I don't think you are missing out on anything to be honest. I did update mine and reroot without any issues, but can't really tell a difference. I would still do it so I can have the latest update on my phone since this one doesn't lock anything that we can't get back into.

There has been only three official releases, F2,G7,and HE. Since you are at G7 I would go ahead and OTA HE. Latest ROMS are based off of it plus you will have all the latest firmware and modem.

Thanks for the reply. Will that break either my root or unlock (actually, I am not sure what state this phone is at since I did not do it -- I do find SuperSU in APPS, and have granted SuperUser to programs like Titanium Pro but there is nothing for CWM or other ROM managers...)?
Frank
If you did an OTA to get to G7 your root is probably gone. You said you have Titanium installed, try to use it. If not rooted it won't work and will advise you so. If this is the case do the OTA to HE and then you will be up to date stock ROM wise.

No, sorry, I must not have explained it correctly. Titanium Pro, ES File Explorer, etc works fine, and I can edit/delete/freeze, etc no problem. So it is still rooted (or unlocked, I can figure out which is which). I would update to HE but only if it did not mess up what I have....
Thanks

Ok I understand now. Root and unlocked are two different things. You can flash an HE ROM and not lose your root. Unlock in your case I think you are referring to the bootloader. It will have to be unlocked prior to flashing custom ROMS. Get an app called EZ Unlock from the Playstore and it will unlock bootloader for you if it's not unlocked already.
I recommend CleanROM 3.1 if you decide to flash. Hope this has helped you some.
I'm trying to revert back to custom because i lost my IMEI but the process I was following required me to flash "VRALF bootchain" 2x and then flash "HE package" but i dont know where to get the HE package and i tried flashing root66 and VRALHD but they both failed can someone help me?

I am not interested in loading any custom ROMs (although I am hoping we get the official JB soon). The only thing that is of interest to me is to be able to run certain programs that require superuser access (e.g. Titanium Pro) and to be able to edit and delete files in the root directory. So I assume all I need is root, and I don't want any OTA updates to take that away (or overwrite files that I have modified or edited that deal with the OS). Maybe that is why I cannot find any reference to CWM -- the previous owner only rooted it but did not unlock it....

Got just the thing for you. First test to make sure you have newest CWM. Power down, Hold volume up,home button, and lock button at same time until phone flashes twice then release. This will put you in recovery and you can see what version you have. The latest is 6.0.1.2. If not you can find newest version or a touch version right here at XDA. Then if you want just a rooted HE version here you go.
http://www.scottsroms.com/downloads.php?do=file&id=247
Or you can download GooManager and flash TWRP for a more user friendly touch recovery.
And flash the same rom from Scott.

OK. I have 6.0.0.8 right now. I am surprised it was there, as with my Nexus and my TP on a cold boot it would show CWM at startup. And there would be folders in the root directory (/CWM). But yes, I have CMW.
And OK on now being able to download and install a rooted HE. But most are saying it either does nothing or makes the phone run a little hotter, so unless I see a pressing need, I will just stay with what I have.
Thanks again.

I had tried TWRP with my HP TP and although it has a nice interface, one time, on loading a new nightly, it TOTALLY messed up my TP. I thought it was bricked. I ended up having to do a complete restore back to WebOS using WebDoctor and a lot of what I thought was code-level input via the PC trying to bring it back to life. Since then, I have only used CWM.
Thanks for the input though!

It is personal choice. I have not had any problems with it and have been running since device was released for pre-order. I run whatever recovery seems to be most stable for the device. CWM for Tbolt. Amon Ra for Rezound. And now TWRP for S3. Have seen more bricks and failed flashes contributed to CWM so I stick with TWRP.

The OTA installed with a custom recovery installed? Interesting. Usually OTA's fail if anything but stock recovery is installed. I only lost root but restored root with OTA Rootkeeper with stock recovery. Good to know that custom recovery can be installed and still get OTAs!

I know it sounds crazy and I am anxious as everyone else but my experience having had several android devices is that it is often better to just wait.
I have know special knowledge about the release date but the way the JB update is rolling out for the S3 and the N10.1 we should have it in most if not all regions by the end of the year which is only 4 weeks away.
Personally I am quite happy with the way the tablet currently opperates, sure I am excited about the new premium suite and google now but the tablet is currently doing everything I need it to do so persoanlly I would counsel waiting until the official release.
Nah, bugger that....
I
"Hmm, but this means wipe of my device right?"
f you are rooted and use mobile ODIN you can update without loosing everything, just make sure cache/data wipe and dalvik are unticked before flashing. You may loose root and go back to stock recovery but flash CWM again and all is well with the world.... Just remember to run triangle away again to reset that pesky flash counter...
"How about flashing if you have an nt8010 would it cause problems???"
Not too sure about the 8010/8013 as there is the modem part of the software but apparently there has been a fix to disable this. Most people who own one of these units have posted it works well but I'm not gonna guarantee anything as I personally don't own one...

Granted the bootloader lets you downgrade.
Does it wipe the internal SD? I'd already flashed it, but im backing up the data just in case... if it doesnt im gonna flash it now.
Ok, i've flashed it, but now i have a weird problem: after the reboot i setted the phone up and then turn it off to put the SIM card and the SD back in, turned it on again and inserted the pin code and then i got stucked on "unlocking SIM card" and i cant use my phone. I tried to take the battery off (because i cant turn it off since the banner doesnt let me tap on turn off) but the it keeps happening. Should i flash the CSC too?
EDIT: flashing CSC fixed the problem, now im restoring my apps with Helium, it's so smooth, cant believe stock is so laggy.

4. Reboot into Safestrap Recovery and flash the Safestrap_TetherAddOn.zip in Stock Slot (Do Not Wipe Prior to Flashing!)
5. Reboot. Done!

thanks. been waiting for a method to install safestrap and to get hotspot. gonna test it out and see how long before AT&T or Net10 lock me out or send me a notice.
After I flashed zip on Golden Eye Rom I get stuck on Samsung boot screen. I did not wipe anything before flashing
Is this only for stock rooted nc1/nb1 or can this applied on top of a custom rom like ShoStock?

Most custom roms already offer tethering built in. Also they may already have a modified framework-res.apk(which these files replace) and may cause issues. So to answer your question I recommend only using this hack on stock.
I have an att i337 stock mf3, rooted using towel and su access. unlocked sim using tmo sim, which file should i download? also im on 4.2.2.. or if i update to atleast 4.3 with the newer modem will that fix this problem?

I'm surprised that you are one of the few that still has att i337 mf3 phone. if so, stay on it, root it and disable the update. else, you'll lost pretty much everything unless something else happen. however, the only thing i can recommend is that you follow another guide that can do it or use foxfi and the paid key.
Holy crap dude! Super cool! If only I didn't have a faulty motherboard everything would be almost perfect, only thing I I'm missing is wifi calling but whatever. I'm gonna have to live without it cause the tmobile roms just don't work for me. Thanks so much man! Hey you think tmobile detects this? I have 3gb free a month.

Reading up on Safestrap now... i didn't think about it until now if I needed it, apparently I've been running without Recovery since I rooted 4.2.2, amateur move!!
I assume this wont wipe anything, just allows me to setup a recovery and flash the tether add on? correct
Pardon the seemingly easy question ( that I haven't found answers to yet)
[alot of updated reading lately since I updated from MF3 4.2.2 and my age old root method]

Correct. Installing safestrap will not wipe anything.
Awesome, installed without issues.
The connection does appear to be quite a bit slower than using the previous theringprovision.apk with 4.2.2.
Would flashing a different modem help this?

I don't believe a new modem will help. And I only briefly tested so other users should chime in as to whether they are also experiencing a slow connection.

Can you try this version and see if the speed is better? I believe that I made a mistake on the first one: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23622183712475370
Downloading now...
Is it just as simple as flashing over the previous one, or do I have any maintenance to do first?

Nope just flash over previous version.
Flashing it now, I'll get you an update in the morning.
Edit: Seems quite a bit faster after flashing the new file.
I wish I had done a speed test first but the results below are from my second install
36.64Mb down 12.95 up.
Once I rebooted I got the message "Safestrap disabled"
is that ok? I noticed the security policy in the 4.4.2 update with Samsung seems to like the ban hammer with alot of rooted stuff.

I don't know what kind of LTE speeds you normally get in your location but those speeds that you posted are more than decent. And I wouldn't worry about the safestrap disabled message, that's normal. I definitely made a mistake when compiling the first version of the tether add on but this latest version is definitely correct enjoy.

[Q] i9505 restore bloatware for OTA lollipop 5.0

Hi, this is my first actual post. I have searched and can't see this query anywhere else.
Ok I'll try to make this as clear as possible, I have read Lollipop 5.0 has been released in the UK for the i9505 and I want to update OTA (which would be when xPosed framework is compatible) but I have a couple problems. I am rooted and I find out now that you can't do OTA if you have previously deleted the bloatware that came with the phone which I have done. Process I have come up with:
1) Use Titanium Backup to backup ALL apps to SD
2) Restore the bloatware by flashing stock Android 4.2.2 firmware to go back to original (can't remember my deleted apps and factory reset won't restore them)
3) Carry out OTA (using CF-autoroot or SU survival mode to keep root)
4) Restore Titanium backups from SD
My questions:
1) Is that process correct?
2) Would flashing the stock rom get rid of my Custom Recovery? Or anything on my external SD?
3) Do I need to unlock bootloader? How do I know if mine is already unlocked or not?
4) Possibly any way to keep my apps layout on homepage?
Extra info: I don't want to get CM, since I had CM11 and didn't like it, prefer the stock touchwiz and custom ROMs have too many bugs.
Would really appreciate any direction on this issue.
Phone info:
Model: Samsung Galaxy S4
Android version: 4.2.2
Baseband version: I9505XXUBMGA
Anyone? :good:
Here is the way
1. Backup using helium app
2. Unroot using SuperSU app (in the setting there is a option)
3. Download stock ROM from sammoble (choose the proper one)
4. Flash it using odin (u need to have stock recovery & bootloader status dosenr matter until u r stock)
5. Before flashing do a hard reset.just to be safe
6. Restore ur app d data using helium(this time u will need a pc)
7. Check for update from settings.
8. & to save ur launcher (touchwiz) there is option in helium
The reason why I don't suggest to keep root cuz at the moment lollipop will run into issues if rooted..later on after u r done with updating u can try rooting.make sure to backup SD just in case something goes wrong
WARNING I AM NOT RESPONSIBLE IF ANYTHING GOES WRONG CUZ ITS U WHO IS DOING NOT ME....well it won't go wrong is u do properly..

Thanks for the reply. Checked out helium app on google play and around the internet, many people are having issues with restoring backups, I'll give it a try while I have a nandroid backup just to see how it works.
Sorry I didn't understand what you meant in the brackets for number 4, can you please elaborate?
Lollipop needs to fix itself! Root is most important for me, I'll update when Xposed is compatible on Lollipop hopefully the root issue will be fixed by then.
It dosent matter what is ur boot loader status, locked or unlocked...if u r flashing a official ROM boot loader status dosent matter.d for flashing a stock rom u need a stock recovery....d for helium if restoring dosent work I move the files manually
Good luck in future

Oh ok gotcha! Hmm since I'll wait until root works I think I might just Titanium Backup since I have the Pro version, might as well use it You say I need a stock recovery, would that appear automatically when flashing the stock rom and get rid of my CWM recovery or is there a certain process to be done in order to get that recovery? (I think it's the former option but just checking Thanksss

It's been around 2 weeks since i first started using a custom rom. It's worth to check this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2557353
It's running stable and with good battery life.
Give it a try

Please, follow the instructions in this thread:

I can download the latest official firmware at sammobile.com, look for firmwares, and search your device specific rom/carrier.
Good luck! :fingers-crossed:
Just checked in YouTube the difference between the Google edition and original and the original is much better in my opinion. The main thing is I don't want to lose all the camera features it comes with. And I can't seem to find stock lollipop for the original S4 on Sammobile, have to navigate with my phone since laptop is bust. I'll give it a quick look again.
