I was just checking out that site...so the link it has for MB1 for SCH-i535 is the full MB1 OTA you can flash basically?
No, you can't flash anything from that site.
Aaaaaaand this is why we want an unlocked bootloader, Verizon.

Source for what ? I'm new to Samsung devices, but not Android, and they only have to release source for the kernel. This recent update didn't include a new kernel, did it ? If Samsung uses other open-source code, I didn't know.

I'm not sure what the OP is talking about . The radio/modem is not open source, its Verizon proprietary. So unless the bug is in the Samsung portion open source does not apply

Kernel source, there's a new kernel with each update. At least there is when referencing the date it was compiled. I won't claim to say I read code/source but there's definitely a few adjustments between one compiled OTA kernel and the next.

The modem being proprietary isn't the main concern. If what OP has posted is true, Samsung is just withholding VRBMD3 kernel source to push another OTA after which they'll provide kernel source for that newer OTA.
Llstarks just wants source and there's nothing wrong with that. Just means we have to wait a little longer is all.

Well, we wanted the source so we could figure out what was going on between the camera blob and the trust zone partition.
Camera wasn't loading with a MD3 tz.

Searching through the EB13 source in /arch/arm/boot/ I came across three files of interest, victory_test_kernel.tar, recovery.bin and zImage, I ran over hear excited since I thought Sammy was throwing us a bone to get some custom kernels running early, but nevertheless in true Samsung fashion the files of interest come from October 1st of all dates, and seem to be before DK28. That's Sammy for you. You'll have to wait until Monday to get anything truly EB13.

This got me thinking, maybe Samsung is just had this source for a while now and this is the outcome of all their edits they've made through the leaked stages, this being the final product, anyways, here is a totally cleaned version of the EB13 source that takes half the time to download and is ready to be compiled with a few edits to victory_03_defconfig and build_kernel.sh.
Code:
Edited victory_03_defconfig to add initramfs source and cleaned
various aspects of unneeded files let behind by Samsung.
If your a dev coming from the DI18 source you might find it interesting to know that the default config is no longer ares_003_defconfig, but is victory_03_defconfig.

Browsing the EB13 source and took a peak at /arch/arm/boot and found victory_test_kernel.zip. Flash with Odin, should work great on any DK28 rom, using rfs.
I also found recovery.bin which can be flashed to bml8 for the stock Samsung recovery experience you'll find which I assume is 3e. here

Do I get to keep root? How is the GPS? More questions that no one can answer this quickly...
u say for RFS?
What does this mean for ext? Is that going to have to be updated or something based on this new releases or no ?
honestly not to knock bubby but i wouldnt bother, wait like 40 mins there will be cwm3 friendly versions that keep root and have ext4/rfs etc etc

Ok thought so, btw do we still have to wait til monday, to get things really going like roms even with this?
I read elsewhere that the source doesnt help if we dont have the modem and kernal from the ota?
theres work on the kernel right now, may not be done fully but there is work.. the ota will give stuff like modem and the rom itself. dont be surprised to see test builds before thern tho

Thought so, i will wait til next week, maybe mid week and, probaly be an update for everything and and and update zip for the new modem.
The initramfs seems to be half-developed there is alot of junk added, and stuff *seems* to be alot missing comparing everything to DK28.
it an old build.. it was compiled on 10/2010 pre dk28 kernel

Note from Nvidia about drivers
Hello Android Development Community
We appreciate all the interest and passion surrounding the NVIDIA Tegra Platform and we take our support for the development community seriously. NVIDIA has been working with Google and Motorola to provide the open source community with the required drivers and other binary code to build full Android OS images for the Tegra 2 powered "Motorola Xoom". We expect Google to make those components available as part of the Android Open Source Project soon.
In addition, NVIDIA is working on a full release of Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) for our Tegra 2 Dual Core and Tegra 3 Quad Core reference devices to be made available early next year. This release package will comprise of binary code, drivers developed on our reference platforms and any patches necessary to ensure stability & performance with ICS. We hope the open source community can leverage this release for their work on all Tegra devices.

On another note: I just pulled the new fonts from this and pushed them to my phone. I must say, the new Roboto front is GORGEOUS. A real upgrade to the default android font we've become so familiar with.

Exactly, which is why Cyanogenmod is not doing anything with it until the source comes out. I hope that it is soon.
ICS would be fantastic on this device. Eventually we'll get it, I have faith in our developers!
But Dec seems so far away, after watching the preview videos of ics it was clear that it's a worthy upgrade. Miles ahead of ios5
I don't know anyone else's results but I made up a hybrid of this and the stock rom (basically combined the two without overwriting files. So any LGE proprietary files were still there) but it didn't work. Bootloops after the initial LG screen. I'm thinking boot.img for some reason but haven't unpacked it yet. Anyone else have any ideas?

You mean you placed the new ICS system apps and combined it with the stock GB?
I think the system apps from ICS would use API's not supported in GB and hence would bootloop.

No. I extracted the stock Tom and the system dump. I modified the 4.0 build.prop, used the stock boot image and then.merged the stock rom into the 4.0 rom, not overwriting existing files. basically just adding stock files. this gives it the ril specified in build.prop, etc. I was hoping to at least get to the second boot screen so I could use logcat but no go.
I know that this is not a developmental release or a custom built ROM but I thought the community might like to see this.....AT&T officially releases GB for our Captivates!

The source has been out for a while now...I'm thinking a few weeks, at least.
Has anyone checked to see whether this KK4 is the same as what was leaked two months ago - there's always the possibility of slipstreamed changes without reversioning, especially since there are definite bugs that remain in the leaked version, e.g., the kernel crashes when too many apps are are installed to SD.
At a minimum, given that the linked instructions describe this as a full wipe, the ROM is packaged differently than the previous leaks.
LOL. couldn't have come at a better time! /sarcasm
Anyone got an alternate mirror in the event the Kies Mini upgrade fails for me, as it did previously when I tried to upgrade to Froyo? It would be a nice backup in the event I need to go back to stock (assuming, although I probably shouldn't, that in the two months since KK4 leaked, something had to get updated.
God do I miss bln.

Just a warning This is all over, so I'm sure they all know about it. Hopefully it'll bring some stability to our Captivate ROMs (they won't have to be based on I9000 now, although I have no idea what else the I9000 functionality brings). I am not a developer, just an educated user.

I have a hard time believing ATT would release such an unstable release. It just can't be the same KK4 leaked back in November. It is inconcievable.

It won't work by simply porting. You need to edit boot.img. the init.rc and init.traces.rc inside boot.img need modification. also several other patches inside kernel is required. I believe that kernel 3.08 is required to port jb. the 2.6.35.14 won't do. So,first we need kernel. then someone experienced like oisis, arco, brood, etc. or,you can wait for the sources. they will be released by mid july.

Exactly. First Google needs to release the source code!
Trying to hack together some kind of SDK port now with the files from the Nexus is completely useless. Some people on XDA have tried it for other devices and it's buggy and you can't even get basic phone functionality such as calling.

Heh they snuck that out in the few hours of sleep I had last night! Funny they released Vodafone UK source when they don't seem to be stocking the phone! I've been playing with building using the stock kernel. The biggest problem I'm having is actually restoring my stock backup afterwards. /Data either won't restore or when I do fully wipe it and get it to restore it won't accept my unlock code/pattern/fingerprint anymore.
Setting the phone up from scratch every time you test is a pita!

I expect they will come, but it looks like it's fully interchangeable currently, at least I've been running the europe unlocked boot.img on my EE UK single sim device without issue. I've just built it and it's running also.

Ouch, that sounds bad. I'm not sure when I'll start hacking, my vacation is very close and by then I guess most features might be already done and ported for sense kernels.. tho the new soc may add some pain to the equation of simple patching
