I'm attempting a battery door mod on the original case that will allow me to change out the battery whenever i want with a charged one.
I have filed out enough space to remove the battery from the case while the case is still on. There will be a little piece of ribbon at the right that will life the battery out.
The NFC and qi chips will be attached to a piece of plastic with Velcro on it so that when when you pull it from the case the NFC and qi chip will be attached to that piece of plastic and will allow me to remove the battery.
I am planning on finishing the case and the battery door in leather.
One thing I'm having trouble working out is how I would be able to charge the nexus 4 battery without it being inside the phone. Any help on this would be appreciated.
Cheers
Steven

I have used this for several different phone batteries and has worked well with all of them.

That looks really cool but I'm not sure if it would work. The nexus 4 battery has a rather strange connector on it. See pic.

Hmm. Yeah I guess I never saw the Nexus 4 battery out of the phone to see if it had the same gold connectors. It looks like these people have a way, but it doesn't seem very convenient.

Ok so I've mocked up a prototype. The concept works just need to get it looking a little better with the help of either some cut sign vinyl or leather glued to it. Have a look and tell me what you think
PS. I put a little piece of leather under the NFC chip to raise it slightly to make the connection with the added height. Works great!

Just had a though. A clip on case on the back might do the trick to hide some of the rough bits lol.

Guess I'm gonna leave my phone naked. I had to end up wrapping the battery in tape before it fit snug enough to power the phone -_-

Where did you get the battery and how does it perform????? Also sure you could find a universal holster..... Might also be able to mod an otter box by cutting it with a dremel will protect the important parts Just a suggestion.....

I'm not handy with tools, and I purchased it on amazon. They are sending me a replacement so let's see what happens. As far as holsters go... ehh negative lol. I wish otterbox would release a commuter to fit it because I'm keeping this phone for a while.

I got the Motorola extended battery from at&t and just cut my otterbox defender with a dremel and it fits perfectly.
and for anyone looking for an extended battery, my att store has them for 25 with the back plate. I believe they are 50 on Motorola.com
So check your att store first

I dropped my phone and the custom battery door that came with my hyperion 3500 mAh battery no longer stays securely in place. Any one know where I can get another fat back rear plate?

Try eBay, I've seen the battery cover sold without the battery, alone in like 3 different colors

Yeah, I'm looking for one too.
Can't believe how hard it is to find the covers without the batteries.
Unfortunately, the hyperion (so far awesome part for its ~$10 price) came with a pretty flimsy cover. The clips are weaksauce.

I ordered one for $13. I like the look of metal and solid colours. I heard these aluminum cases will lower the signal of your phone, but I will try it out anyways. I highly doubt it offers much protection when it drops.

Had one on the S3, same brand; kills reception like a mofo
Looks like it might have a non metallic back, which should then not interfere with signal.

If you want legit ones, go to Casefanatic.com. I would recommend the kommandant. I have not lost and reception at all. It's all aluminum, and built better.

They're all the same just different logos and company trying to sell them.

Well, i definitely like the fact that it has no flap cover for the screen. It's a pull-and-use device. Nice and simple. It is very popular. I've seen this before in person on an S4 and it looks good.
It does mess up your screen protector, and such. Also, it can get pretty hot.
It looks good. Maybe I'll try one.
I have one in all black. It's a pretty nice case. It is all aluminum sides and back. Pretty nice build and finish. I did lose like a bar of reception but no big deal. A con for me personally is that it does make it a little slippery and if it does happen to fall its not going to protect it all that much. Overall I would recommend it. It is a nice looking case and it looks good especially for the price.

I've been using it for a month now. Of course you lose NFC. NFC is attached to the plastic back cover. Gps has not been affected at all as I use it daily. Reception for me has not be affected either.

NFC is built into your battery. The plastic cover is just a plastic cover.

Yes I know that but isn't there a antenna type thing on the inside of the plastic cover.. I've tried using nfc with the cover off and it didn't work

Sorry. NFC capability is only built into the battery itself. The Note 2 has its antenna in the cover, but the S3 and S4 don't.
I've got to say, it does looks real good, especially the aluminum but it has a very steep price.
Case
Not appealing to my eyes.
Tried this case but i lose 4g signal... switches to 3g

I am looking for stand and spare battery charger like I had for my Fascinate & my Gnex. Battery goes into compartment, phone goes into front groove either horizontally or vertically. A micro USB "Y" cable connects to phone & to charger. Handiest thing I have used in a long time. Can't find one for S4.

I was looking at that one but from the pic's it doesn't look like the vertical support is very tall. i was wondering how well it supports the back of the phone
I never had a problem with support. Between the usb connector going into the bottom and the back lip the phone is pretty sturdy when docked.
