Help needed!!!! I am really confused what to do , whether to buy a nexus s now or wait for dual -core phones .I just dont want to buy something for 20k that might be outdated soon.
Nexus s will pretty much run anything out right now.. Don't play the waiting game, get it if the price is right? It's technology.. Every few months there is newer and more expensive **** out

If you want to play the waiting game, wait for the next Nexus. I wouldn't ever buy or recommend a non-Nexus Android.

what do you mean? i truly believe that is the best phone and it is for everyone!!
I love my Nexus. If you wait then you will still be seeing something else better come out in a few months. If you like the Nexus, then get it. If not then just wait it out.

Ya...thats what.Even i dont want to wait because my budget was around 18k, i stretched it to 20k(current price of nexus s in inr)...the budget is so strict that i cant even stretch it to buy sgs i9000(which i dont feel is worth buying when compared to nexus s)...and my requirement is that heavy (gameloft-ish)games should work smoothly ...which i think nexus s with its 1ghz humming bird procc & PowerVR SGX 540 would handle quite well atleast for an year or so ..and plus there is a chance that nexus s will be getting ICS ...so i think i should just buy it now ...and 20k for nexus s is a steal i think !
The nexus s is an awesome phone for the price now (320 € in Germany). I wouldn't spend almost twice as much for a double core.
Btw, I'm not sure where you're from but in the states when you say 20k that k stands for thousands. So $20,000 is a bit much for the Nexus S. I only paid $200 for mine

Gaming? Nexus S is never your wrong choice. Haha.
You can use Chainfire 3D on Nexus S to play Tegra 2 games,
you can overclock your phone using Trinity 1.576 kernel to maximize your game experience.
What more do you want when the 1.576 kernel give a same quadrant score (or even higher) than duo core phone such as Optimus 2x ang SGSII??
In conclusion, get me to help you when you got your nexus, I will give you all the necessary file/kernel/rom/apps for maximum gaming experience
I am a gamer (only when holiday,LOL) with 24 hours charging my phone
after personally trying both optimus 2x and atrix for more than 2 weeks each. " brother has atrix and i got optimus 2x from my friend to use it since he doesnt want it " got galaxy s2", i would go for nexus S
the reason is simple. this is all marketing bs. there is nothing that can run on galaxy s2 or atrix or optimus 2x that cant run on nexus S . everything runs perfectly fine on nexus S. no lag. perfectly fine.
the only thing that wont run are the nvidia games. but as far as i know. they are all been ported to other phones.
however. what broke it up was skype. to know that skype was released for video chat only on 4 phones and nexus is one of them. made me note something. i have to get that phone. not because of skype. but because clearly. its a dev platform. when skype tested their video call. they tested it on nexus. even with the mods. skype till now cant run video calls on optimus 2x and tegra. do to the fact tegra cant read some codes. i think mods are looking into it but i dont have high hopes at all. because this is not the first time dev get stuck on something like that. " same code "
if you are talking about dual core phones as galaxy s2. then this is another story.
GS2 is superior phone. there is no doubt about it. better and bigger screen. thinner, faster. but u will also get stuck with 2 things
- google updates... u wont get any till samsung give their blessing
- some problems running some games " again. some issue with reading codes. while this is being sported out by devs here, its still not perfect. "

where i can download chainfire 3d ?
also. i dont advise overclocking your phone. it shorten the lfie of your cpu/gpu.
i would definitely choose the Nexus S .. its a powerful beast ..
1, 1ghz processor is enough for everything
2, gpu 540 - can handle all the games - much stronger than the most used adreno 200 or 205
3, updates directly from google! - how fast your phone is depends also on the OS ..
4,you get comparable scores when you tweak your phone vs dualcores -sometimes even more
5,the chipset used in Nexus S has one of the best audio chips used in a device - regarding that Voodoo Sound - it seriously killed my ipod, my Hi-Fi at home .. i just use that ..
6, you want more? you can play 720p MKV on this hardware - you cant do that on most dualcore - coz they miss the hq mkv profile - diceplayer
7,skype video calls? here we go
8, NFC - the future is already there
u know google decided to make "the phone" and when they do one .. they mostly put all the best stuff into it from that "time frame" ..

Well, I going to change my phone when NExus prime is out, and I gonna sell my nexus S. Haha. I wont protect my phone just to expand it lifespan, I want a maximum enjoy, that's the reason why I choose to buy smartphone. LOL

I agree.
NVIDIA Tegra2 dual core : Video decoder is too bad...Hard to play H.264 High profile.
Snapdragon dual core : Video is not so good but can play 720p MKV using diceplayer.
Exynos dual core : GREAT Video decoder. it can play 1080p High profile.
if you have HDMI-out cable, your phone turn into video player.
Guys ive been reading on net bout android phone ive been wanting to buy sgs3 but when I saw some forum saying quadcore is useless on sgs3 that its better having dual core and now I saw Xperia tx verion that won benchmark test that saying has better performance that sgs3 so guys what is the phone?
For me im into gaming RPG on android phone and net surfing music etc
I'm pretty sure only the international sgs3 has a quad core... but I may be wrong on that.
As far as cpu performance goes, I prefer the tegra processors over the snapdragons. LG optimus hd has one of these in a quad core version available oversees.
This isnt about opinions though, trust the benchmark results.
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda app-developers app
Well it really depends on what you feel. Benchmarks are pointless. only real world use matters. I would give up the quad core for the 2gb of ram the US Moslem comes with but for gaming the spores line is your best bet as those are gaming devices
Sent from my SGH-I777 using Tapatalk 2
Eh same could've been said about dual core when it first popped up for us. Its more about taking advantage of the cores that's the situation. Later versions of android are surely to take full capacity of the cores as more and more phones adopt. As for the phone, the gs3 is perfect for gaming, media, browsing ect. Although its plastic, the way its shipped makes it comfortable to hold in the hand
Sent from my SPH-L710 using xda premium
The best overall performance for a phone has to be the Galaxy S3. It comes with a Snapdragon S4, which is an entirely NEW architecture. That means snapdragon is half a generation ahead of the tegra 3 and exynos 4 in terms of cpu design. The only drawback of the S4 is its gpu, as it only has an adreno 225, which is a slight upgrade from it's old gpu. Otherwise the Galaxy S3 is still a powerhouse.
As for gaming, the Tegra 3 has a slight edge due to NVIDIA forming partnerships with game developers and they optimize some games to run well on the tegra 3.
http://androidandme.com/2012/05/sma...erformance-gpu-battery-life-and-web-browsing/
Overall, real-performance is the almost the same for both phones, One X and GSIII, but with a slight edge to the GSIII for its superior S4.
i think sgs3 dual core version with 2gb ram wont be released in europe i only saw in italy is quadcore with 1gb ram T_T but ithink 1g ram is still good coz my father has sgs2 ^^
so if we will base on experience sgs3 is still the best ill gonna save a bit more for that phone XD
Anything Krait is good, the S4 is a very capable chip. The quad pro version will be a beast.
Exynos is fast as well, Nvidia is better for gaming. But it also depends on how well the manufacturers optimise their software to run on the hardware.
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Xperia TX. Go for it. No TouchWiz, better camera and design. Jelly Bean almost after launch.
it is very important to know if it is quad or dual cored. If it is quad then it will run faster because there is less stress on the cpu, then if it was dual. but, honestly, i ahve been using my droid incredible for a very long time. This is a 1 GHZ single core cpu and i use it heavily. i play n64 games on it without over clocking (the max cpu is like 1134 mhz, but i set it to about 600mhz and i can play with absolutely no lag.) so, what i am saying is that it doesn't matter if it is dual or quad cored because it is fast enough already. but, i know the international version, or at least the one i saw in india when i went there for vacation is quad. i think the USA version is quad as well. and btw, i have played with it. it's a great phone. the display is beautiful. the battery life is amazing. flash a kernel on it and i think you can run for 2-3 days with light/medium use in a single charge. go get that phone!
International galaxy s3 is quad core with 1gb a ram and is 1.4ghz which can be over clocked to 1.7ghz. I have an international galaxy s3 as I am from UK.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda app-developers app
quad core might not be fully usable at the moment but it will get better.
the main thing is the i9300 (international version) will have far more vast support then any carrier specific models us versions.
Benchamrk results are not that important
Get the S3 because its good for gaming with bigger screen and nice comfy shape :good:

I am also looking at getting a new phone. I am leaning towards a quadcore because I tend to have phones for a while. (Still rocking my captivate...) I figure that even though applications are not optimized for the quadcore yet, they will be in the future, which means I can make use of the phone for longer without feeling the need that I "have" to upgrade.

If your penis is so small you need to compare a phone with your tablet.
Yes, then you got beaten.
I for my part never understood why anyone would need that power in a phone.
Okay maybe some people like to charge their device twice a day...
I laugh at everyone that say they are going to wait for the "ultimate phone".
You might as well just never buy a phone then, since not even 6-months later something WILL be better then what you have.
The only thing lately that hasn't been changing so fast in the tech world has been TV and Desktop computer parts.
My SLI GTX 580 setup (which is coming close to 3 years old), is just as fast as a single GTX680, if not faster in some cases!

The Galaxy S4's specs are just speculation, but I am sure most of us here know that there are many devices that are CURRENTLY available on the market that can easily surpass the tf700 just by comparing specs. Tegra 3 was already outdated the moment the Galaxy S3 was announced. Just to name a few, any devices with Snapdragon S4 Pro and Exynos 5 (LG Optimus G, LG Nexus 4, HTC Droid DNA, J Butterfly, Galaxy S3, Note 2, Note 10.1, etc...) will surely give you better performance (both overall and graphical performance) than any Tegra 3-powered devices (including the tf700).

And if we speak now of a new 8 core exynos then i guess we also should speak that we have a 5 core A9 in our system!! the Exynos 4 of the Galaxy S3 is only a 4 core...

even the next arm chip: http://www.arm.com/products/processors/cortex-a50/cortex-a57-processor.php

Oops, I was thinking about the Nexus 10 when I was talking about Exynos 5. You're right, it should be Exynos 4 instead. Nevertheless, it does not change my point about Tegra 3's being outdated. For instance, when it comes to memory performance, Tegra 3 only has single channel memory controller as opposed to dual channels found in almost anything else (from Apple, Qualcomm to Samsung), a fact that is readily taken advantage of by Amazon when they introduced the Kindle Fire HD (TI OMAP 4 vs Tegra 3). Overall, if you follow articles on Anandtech about mobile SoCs, Exynos 4 gives you much better performance and more power efficient.

Unless you start looking at the screen resolution, of course. Any Gamer knows that a lower resolution uses less resources, and thus gives more frames per second.
as example i take 2 device (but the question are general)
Nexus one: snapdragon S1 QSD8250 at 1GHz with Adreno 200
Galaxy mini 2: snapdragon S1 MSM7227A at 800 MHz with Adreno 200
im noob but i cant see big difference between these 2 devices, just one
Nexus is hold at gingerbread
Galaxy mini 2 is planned to JB (and there is already a custom rom that works very good)
THE QUESTION ARE SIMPLE:
is there a techical reason which prevents the nexus one running JB or is it just marketing?
thanks to anyone who wants to give me a technical explanation
up
I think just marketing because the company want to earn money with new phone so if they say that they will be upgrade a "new phone" peaple would like to buy them. If they say about a old phone it won't be the same.
any tecnical answer ?
up
Don't think there's any technical reason. Devs have come up with CM10 roms for nexus one, so probably manufacturers can provide jb on such phones if they really wish to.
Hey guys was hoping you could help me out since I am a big newbie when it comes to the mobile world
I am looking to buy a new phone, and one of the phones I've choosen to buy has adreno 225, 1.5ghz krait and 720p 4.7" screen (its the pantech (or SKY) a830l ).
Was hoping you guys could help me and let me know which games and/or apps (if any) I wont be able to run because of gpu bottle-neck on this resolution, and how future proof the adreno 225 will prove to be..
additionally, my alternative choice is htc One X
One X is almost twice the price of the pantechm , so I want to know whether its really worth it in terms of cpu and gpu power (ignoring the better screen for a bit).
Also, I've noticed that many 'very' powerful cell phones have mali400 (including galaxy note (1) and SIII). I've heard people say that adreno 225 is better than mali400 AND that SIII outperforms in games cell phones with much more powerful graphics card. So now im really confused. Am I missing something?

mali 400 easily outperforms adreno 225... that's why it is in galaxy s3
and it has capability upto 4 cores so it is better
more comparable to it would be adreno 320!
the "pantech" one is a good choice if pricing suits you! You'll be able to play many games but i assume 1.5 ghz krait is either dual/quad core!! If yes you are good to go!

more comparable to it would be adreno 320!
the "pantech" one is a good choice if pricing suits you! You'll be able to play many games but i assume 1.5 ghz krait is either dual/quad core!! If yes you are good to go!

thanks for the reply, really appreciate the clarification.
Ive seen a couple of benchmarks but benchmarks are just benchmarks. Based on current games an apps, how many games and apps are there that wont be able to run because of the gpu? and can you give me some examples? hope I'm not asking too much
the pantech 830 is Super IPS LCD 720p (4.8"), krait dual core 1.5ghz and adreno 225
Samsung galaxy Note (N7000) is Super Amoled 720p (5.3"), cortex A-9, mali400, about 25% more expensive than the pantech
HTC One X is about twice the price of the pantech (and I really doubt I need the quad core)

Well the pantech phone will run almost all games.. Games which have state of the art graphics like nova3,wild blood and latest nfs, asphalt releases might be a problem.. But those can also be made working by rooting and enabling hardware acceleration
Note and one x will run all games but i understand they are costly
Then again it comes to u, how much u want to pay!

thanks for the reply..Im willing to spend more but I just dont want spend money on hardware which I wont be utilizing. Id like to game on my mobile, but not dying do and dont mind if a few games dont work. Prefer gaming on my PC in any case.
Just want to confirm that all apps would work and I could run 720p videos on the pantech smoothly.
