Kyocera Rise v4.0.4 Root Procedure – No PC Required - Android General

How To Root Kyocera Rise v4.0.4 and Kyocera Hydro v4.0.4
No PC Required
This is the procedure on how to root your Kyocera Rise v4.0.4. After many on-line searches, I was able to determine there was no concrete tutorial on how to root Kyocera Rise v4.0.4. In order to reduce frustration for others who may have experienced the same situation, I came up with this tutorial. I did not create any of the apps provided in this tutorial, I was just able to utilize the apps which where already on-line. Verified this tutorial also works for Kyocera Hydro v4.0.4.
****This tutorial may also work for other Kyocera phones****.
IMPORTANT: Any changes you make to your phone can potentially damage the phone, if done incorrectly. Under no circumstances am I responsible for any changes you make, which damage your phone. Please understand you are making these changes at YOUR OWN RISK!
Please follow the steps below exactly as described. I strongly recommend reading the entire tutorial before beginning to root your Kyocera Rise v4.0.4 Or Kyocera Hydro v4.0.4.
1. Plug your phone into the charger. Once that is completed, go to Settings → Developer Options and enable “Stay Awake” by putting a check in the box. This will prevent the phone from sleeping while you apply the changes.
2. Put your phone in Debug Mode by going to Setting → Developer Options and enabling “USB Debugging” by putting a check in the box.
3. Go to Setting → Security and enable “Unknown Sources” by putting a check in the box. This will allow the apps in this tutorial to work correctly.
4. Open Google Play, search for “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” by ES App Group. {Link} Make sure your download the correct version specifically named “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)”.
5. Download the "Ministro II v9.4.apk" from {App located at the end of this Tutorial}. The correct version is very important.
6. Once you have downloaded "Ministro II v9.4 apk" to your phone it will be saved to your “Download” folder on your SDcard. Open “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” and navigate to the “Download” folder on your SDcard. Click on the “Ministro II v9.4 apk” and install it. You may receive a notification telling you there are new Ministro II files in the repository. Do NOT update from the notification. Update will happen in the next few steps.
(Google Play - Ministro II versions 9.5+ do not work well with Poot.)
7. Download “Poot-debug(W100).apk” by GiantPune from {App located at the end of this Tutorial}. There are a few different versions of the Poot app. But they are not located in Google Play. It seems this version “Poot-debug(W100).apk” works well with the Kyocera. The correct version is very important.
8. Once you have downloaded “Poot-debug(W100).apk” to your phone it will be saved to your “Download” folder on your SDcard. Open “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” and navigate to the “Download” folder on your SDcard. Click on the “Poot-debug(W100).apk” and install it.
9. Once it has completed installation, click “Open”. You will immediately get a Message from “Ministro II” stating “Poot needs extra libraries to run. Do you want to download them now?” Click “OK” to begin downloading the libraries. Please let “Ministro II” finish downloading the libraries before continuing. Note: The download speed of the libraries will depend on whether you are connected to Wifi or 3G. Please be patient and let “Ministro II” complete the download.
********************************************************
Import - If you receive an error stating "Invalid QT Version" while completing STEP # 8, Please delete Poot and Ministro 2 from your device.
Once those two files are deleted please download the files named "Ministro II-QtFix.apk" and "Poot-debug-QtFix.apk" from the end of this tutorial.
After downloading the two files named "Ministro II-QtFix.apk" and "Poot-debug-QtFix.apk", install them but do NOT open them.
Once the 2 files have been installed continue from STEP # 8.
*********************************************************
10. Once the download has been completed the Poot Application will appear with 2 options. Please click on “Press here to Poot”. Once you click the button, the white space on the “Poot” application should state the following:
[+] I think root, therefore I am root
Write SUBinary()
[+] remounted /system read-write
[+] wrote SUBinary
[+] changed SUBinary to vid 0, gid 0 mode 6755
[+] remounted /system read-only
[+] removed hook
[-] current && current != last+1: 0000ffff
0000ffff
[-] Haxx has run its course.
Reboot the device to play again
A demon materialized while pooting. Error code 64
You need to restart your device.
IMPORTANT: DO NOT REBOOT YOUR DEVICE UNTIL THIS TUTORIAL TELLS YOU SPECIFICALLY TO REBOOT YOUR DEVICE!!!
11. Before restarting your device continue with the tutorial. Open Google Play. Download “SuperUser” by ChainsDD from Google Play {Link}. Install “SuperUser” then click open when the installation has completed. Swipe to the left until you see the “Info” section. Look for the section labeled “SUBinary”. Under that section verify you have the “SU Binary version 3.03.2(15)”. Then disable the “outdated binary notification” by removing the check from the box.
***************************************************************************************************************************************************************
12. Open “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” that you previously downloaded in this tutorial. Press the menu button on the Kyocera Rise to view the app's options and click on “setting”. Scroll down until you see the section called “Root Setting”. Enable the “Root Explorer” by putting a check in the box. “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” will produce a message at this point, click “Yes”. The “SuperUser” app will appear asking you to grant “SuperUser” rights for “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)”. Click allow and make sure the “Always Remember” box is checked. It should be checked by default, but please verify.
13. Under the same section in “ES File Explorer (1.5 Cupcake)” named “Root Setting”, there is an option called “Mount File System”. Please enable “Mount File System” by placing a check in the box next to this option. You should get a message stating “System is mounted as writable”.
IMPORTANT Note: If you get an error while trying to complete steps 11 and 12, you did not complete the steps correctly in this tutorial. You must un-install all the apps and begin the process again.
***************************************************************************************************************************************************************
14. Download and install “Root Checker” by JOEYKRIM from Google Play {Link}. Once the installation has been completed click open. Inside the “Root Checker” app click on the button which states “Verify Root”. If all the steps were completed correctly, the following message will appear in green text “Congratulations! You have Root Access.”
15. Final Test of Root. Reboot your phone and wait until it completes rebooting. Open “Root Checker” app, click on the button which states “Verify Root”. If you see the message in green text “Congratulations! You have Root Access.”. You are done rooting!
A few suggestions after Rooting...
1. You will need to install “Busy Box” in order for some Root applications to work properly. “Busy Box” can be found by searching Google Play for the term “Busy Box”. There are a few different version created by different developers. Pick which ever one you prefer.
2. Before doing anything else to your device, download “Titanium Backup * Root” {Link}. Make sure you create a back up with this app, just in case anything goes wrong after Rooting.
3. There are no custom ROMs for the Kyocera Rise at this time. You can download “Rom Toolbox Lite” by JRummy {Link} to change some features on your phone. The “Pro” version is even better if you like the “Lite” features. I recommend starting with the “Boot Animations” since there are some really good Boot Animations in this tool.
Note: At this time you are unable to change the “Status Bar” color and icons. The ROM needs to needs to be de-oxeded before this can be completed.
4. Another good app that will make a significant improvement on your phone is “PimpMyRom” {Link}. I recommend activating the “Universal Init.d Support” under tools and Setting the “Wifi Scan Interval” higher under “Tweaks” Inside “Network & Internet”. The “Wifi” change will show a significant change in download speed.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Some of the features will cause the app to close. This means those features do not work on the Kyocera Rise. DO NOT INSTALL ANYTHING FROM THE “APPS & MODS” Section of “PimpMyROM”. THIS WILL DAMAGE YOUR PHONE. You can test the “APPS & MODS” features at YOUR OWN RISK!
5. You may also want to look for a new launcher to customize your device. You can try “Nova Launcher” or “ADW Launcher”. They each have many custom themes and can all be located in Google Play.
6.You may also want to download and install a “Terminal” App if you are interested in learning or applying commands. There are a few different terminal apps located in Google Play, just use the search term “Terminal”. Please select the one you prefer or test a few.
7. My next suggestion is, that you can install Playstation Mobile on the Kyocera Rise v4.0.4 by following the instruction in this {Link} from another XDA member. His instructions are accurate. Please follow the instructions on how to manually install PSM. The manual installation worked for me.
8. Xposed framework works on these devices. Xf has many features you can use which are similar to custom ROMs. I suggest doing a web search for "Xposed Framework". There are plenty of tutorials explaing how to use and install Xf.
9. Keep in mind these are only suggestions on what to do after your phone is rooted.
Enjoy your Rooted, Kyocera Rise v4.0.4 and/or Kyocera Hydro v4.0.4 !

Note: If you encounter any errors read the comments below. If you are still unsure on what to do, uninstall the apps, read the tutorial thoroughly, then start the process again. 100,000+ views and very little comments means the tutorial was successful. Good Luck in rooting, thanks for all the views and ALWAYS KEEP AN OPEN-MIND TO OPEN-SOURCE!

I try to Root_with_Restore_by_Bin4ry_v31. But It couldn't it root for me.
But I try to this way. It success to the root. :good:
Thank you.

I am glad you were able to root the Rise with ease!

Great Tutorial That Works...
Thank You to the Author of this Tutorial. This worked the very first time I did it. Even though i installed the wrong ES File Explorer Version, after installing the Correct one {ES File Explorer 1.5 Cupcate}, everything fell into place.
To others following the Tutorial, listen to the Author at the end of the Tutorial's section "A Few suggestions after Rooting..." Step 2 is key... Install the Titanium Backup and run the backup before adding more stuff after your device has Root Capability. That way you don't have to Redo the Tutorial again on your Device if something goes wrong in the future with installing Root required Apps.
Although when trying to use ROM Manager v5.5.2.8 (I downloaded this myself by the way), it's telling me i must have ClockworkMod Recovery Installed before I can Backup My current ROM. My Device is a Kycoera C5155. I'm sure they'll make one soon for my device. Or i'll find another ROM backup tool out on the App Store.
Thanks Again to the Author. Bravo :good::laugh:

I appreciate the positive feedback. Right now no one has figured out how to unlock the bootloader for the Rise. Therefore no CWM versions can be applied and/or tested.
Sooner or later someone will unlock it

Yes I am sure it is Ministro 2, also the connection is Wifi and it is working very fast. I also downloaded Ministro 2 Configuration Panel and set to testing repo. as mentioned in some other link when I searched for this error but still the same problem. I can see in logcat that Ministro 2 is going to the correct url (I can't post the url here bec I am still new) and then produce an error then crashes and go back to Poot which shows "Invalid Qt version".
I even tried Ministro 1 and it didn't work at all.
Thanks for your help.

OK, please follow these steps...
1. Uninstall Ministro 1, Ministro 2, and Ministro Config Panel.
2. Go To Setting - Developer Options - and verify "USB Debugging" and "Stay Awake" are checked.
3. Download ONLY "Ministro 2" from google play.
4. Once Ministro 2 has been installed plug your phone into the charger.
5. Run Poot again and it will download the correct libraries.
The problem can be cause by a few things... If your phone screen locks during the download it may also shut-off your wi-fi. This is why I had you check off "stay awake" and plug your phone into the charger. The config panel and version 1 of Ministro will cause problems which is why I had you remove them.
One other situation I noticed will cause the error you are encountering is the incorrect version of Poot. I am assuming you copied the version of Poot attached to the tutorial so I am ruling that error out.
Please let me know how you make out with the changes I suggested.

I tried exactly the same steps here but still the same problem. and I used the POOT attached in the tutorial.

What is the percentage of the libraries downloaded when you get the error?

I don't see any progress bar. it shows "Downloading Libraries" then "Downloading SSL Certificates" then close and go back to Poot which shows "Invalid qt version"

I have been testing a few ideas to duplicate the problem you have experienced. I was able to duplicate the problem. It looks like Ministro 2 breaks the connection with poot.
I am in the process of determining if another app is the cause or if it is Ministro causing the problem.
Since other people have recently applied root with no problems, I am leaning towards another app being the cause of the problem.
I will run a few test to determine if another app is the cause. If another app is not the cause I will upload the correct version of ministro 2 to this tutorial.

QT Error with Ministro
I was able to locate the problem with the QT Error. It seems Ministro has updated the QT version they use in their apk. They are using QTv5 when Poot is looking for QTv4.
I found a version of Poot that uses QTv5 but the Ministro 2 version in the app store does not work properly either.
After doing some research it seems the Poot version I located and the Ministro 2 apk from the developer's website work properly.
The Ministro 2 version from the developer's website actually searches for the correct libraries for this version of Poot.
I will adjust the tutorial to reference the QT Error.
You will need to download the files called "Ministro II-QtFix.apk" and "Poot-debug-QtFix.apk" attached to the tutorial, then continue the tutorial with those two files.
I tested the tutorial with these two files, everything is the same except for the fact you will be using 2 different files for Poot and Ministro.

Thanks a lot for your support. I managed to pass these steps now but I am stuck now on step 10. SuperUser shows that Su binary not found. ES Explorer (CupCake) gave an error when I tried to enable root explorer.

I have updated the tutorial and added additional files. Please restart the tutorial and let me know if the issue continues. If it does continue please, provide answer the questions...
1. Did you restart your device before adding superuser?
2. Can you please verify you downloaded the correct superuser app?
3. Can you provide me the exact error message and when it appears?

31 July 2013 -- Successfully rooted Kyocera Hydro running 4.0.4...
Greetings,
A friend of mine asked me for help rooting his Kyocera Hydro, so I followed the steps that were posted in this thread, but something was amiss because root just wasn't happening. Here is what finally did the trick for me:
1) Uninstall whatever versions of Ministro and poot that you previously installed.
2) Download and install v9.4 of Ministro directly from your phone's browser (first make sure that Settings-->Developer options-->USB Debugging is checked, as well as Settings-->Developer options-->Stay Awake and Settings-->Security-->Unknown sources). You can find "Ministro II v9.4.apk" at the website files.kde.org slash necessitas slash installer slash release (sorry, I am too new to post links so I'm doing the best I can here). Be sure the file you get is dated 02-April-2013.
3) After you download and install Ministro II v9.4, install Poot-debug(W100).apk, which is referenced at the beginning of this thread.
4) Launch Poot and allow it to grab the necessary updates, etc., then click "Press here to Poot" and hopefully you will be successful as I was in rooting your phone!
Hope this helps.
Best,
--pqc

Good work! It seems from my testing the problem is cause by the new version of Ministro II. Currently v10 is on the app store. The new version uses QT 5 which doesn't seem to work well with Poot.
I will update the tutorial when I get a chance and upload Ministro II v9.4. That version seems to do the trick with regular rooting on Kyocera devices.

AT&T fusion android 2.3.4 root

Hey can anyone help me root my android 2.3.4? I have a att fusion that I'm trying to root and I don't know if there is a way to. Just thought I'd come here and get a straight answer.
Sent from my XDA App
me too
hope someone has a way. I've been trying for three days to root this phone and nothing works so far. Not sure if [email protected] has done anything or not to prevent rooting.
Step 1. http://androidforums.com/huawei-son...nmod-7-2-zad-rom-v-1-5huawei-u8650-sonic.html
Download and unzip the "Drivers Huawei (adb drivers)" to your desktop and install the drivers. Also download and unzip the "Custom CM Recovery" to your desktop as you will need it later.
Step 2. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1321582
Create a folder named DooMLoRD-v4 on your desktop and Download DooMLoRD_v4_ROOT-zergRush-busybox-su.zip and unzip it to that folder.
Put your phone into USB debugging mode and run the "runme" batch file in the DooMLoRD-v4 folder on your desktop. When done your phone should be rooted.
Step 3. Open the Custom CM Recovery folder and run the "Instalador" batch file
you now should have a rooted AT&T Fusion with ClockworkMod Recovery installed on it.
Step 4. http://androidforums.com/huawei-son...nmod-7-2-zad-rom-v-1-5huawei-u8650-sonic.html
Scroll down and you will find two custom roms that you can download and install on your phone with CM Recovery. Before you install open up the "system" folder and open the build.prop file in notepad once opened go to edit and in the drop down you should see a replace option. Replace "u8650" with "u8652" so that in your info your phone will have the right model number and save it.
Thanks!

Got all the files still cannot ROOT this damn thing, Tried Using Z4root wont work, Tried Using SuperOneClick, it Hangs on the #7 Process waiting for the Phone then I tried Using DoomLord V4 and it gets pretty far but shows that the Internal program memory is non-rewritable so im starting to guess "NO ROOT" is this possible?
Try and download the newest version of superuser and make a root file on the sd card. After that superuser is downloaded, put the file into the root file and wait for it to transfer, then when thats finished power off the phone and put it into recovery mode and apply update from SD card and choose zip file. Choose the superuser update and let it go through the process. Once its finished reboot device and you have root. Now all you have to do is flash a custom recovery on it and load a rom.
Let me know how it works!

Has anyone tried this root process with the fusion 2? If it doesn't work is there another way to root the fusion 2? Thanks.
had same problem...this will fix it
First thing that you want to do is root your phone. I have done this twice with this method and it has worked great both times.
1) ROOTING YOUR FUSION:
This is the method that worked for me. It was already stated in another thread on this forum:
QUOTE from : charliedrums....
"Here is what I did: (this tutorial was done by sd_james over at xda developers)
1. You need to install the latest Android SDK (search google for latest version)
2. download SuperOneClick v2.3.3
3. Follow the instructions and make sure that you have set your Settings > Development > USB Debugging box checked. I also set Unknown sources checkbox on.
4. Type in the following code on the phone keypad
*#*# 2846579 #*#*
This will open up the Service Mode
Go to Project Menu > Background Settings > Log Settings
Turn on Log Switch and set Log Level Settings to Verbose
go back one screen
Go to Dump and Log and place a check in all log settings.
Reboot the phone
After reboot use superoneclick2.3.3
In superoneclick on the general tab click the root button and wait for it.
This is what worked for me.""
2) After your root, you want to install the Clockwork mod for this phone. (To do the back up for your rom and also install this will enable you to install custom Roms for this phone.)

Other than the screen size and HSPA band, the rest of spec are pretty the same, so it's possible P760 method is applied on P769.
Unfortunately, the method I searched online is simply a fraud (I looked up the web code).
Just picked up 2 of these phones. My wife loves hers. I am hoping to begin liking mine. Rooting would help.
also waiting for some development for this phone, i have done themes before and know the basics of android but would still need help from a real dev.

Root procedure
Hi guys, I'm italian and I am one of the guys that rooted the phone with that procedure.
I'll try to help you out.
1) Download and install USB drivers and LG Suite
2) Make a full backup of your phone data with LG suite
3) Download bin4ry's script...you will find the link on the italian post you quoted
4) Plug the phone in, and make sure is set to "LG software mode" and it's in debug mode
5) Run the script, and make sure you DON'T run it as administrator, but run it as normal user, or it won't work (at least on Windows 8 64)
6) Select first "2" (Device type: Special), then 1 (root)
7) At some point, the phone will ask you to proceed with a recovery. Do it.
8) Follow the script's procedure until the end. Install super user app. Phone will reboot a few times...don't worry, it's normal You will also be asked to type something like "/data/etc"..do it!
9) Root should be effective by now. To check this out, try "Got root?" application
10) Restore your data with the backup you made at step 2.
Enjoy!
Let me know!

Enjoy!

What's the problem? What happened?
I can't even get PC Suite to detect my phone. The drivers are installed and seem to be working. Device manager shows everything OK. I select "LG Software" from the USB connection type menu on my device. The PC Suite software says "The device inforation failed to load" after attempting to connect.

Many applications were gone and I even can't use "restore" (2-2).

(update)
Good News!!!
My P769 is rooted! The key is "Lookout Security". Disable it and you're ready.
Here is the steps:
Make sure LG driver installed (the simplest way: install LG suite)
You MUST disable Lookout Security (menu-settings-applications). Choose disable
Make sure USB debugging enabled, and choose USB charge only.
Run Root and Restore->RunMe.bat->choose 1. Check the phone screen if you're asked to restore, choose it when you're prompted.
The phone will reboot. You have to look at the status of the terminal. If there's NO permission denied error, look at the phone. If it shows "Android is updating", the phone should be rooted.
Don't forget to grab SuperSU and BusyBox (and install the latter).

Heck yes!! I will try this with my other PC. I think this one is having driver conflicts because of all the devices I have rooted on it.
Do we need to do the backup and restore steps? Or is all data still intact?

It doesn't really matter because the phone is still new and I have not yet put in data until it rooted.

Need root for Lg Escape
+1
Thought I would share with everyone how to root Version 10i of the LG Escape.
How to Root Version v10i
Run LG Spectrum ICS Root script (Windows version) Batch file.
Takes about a minute

guys guys!!
I was watching this video and downloaded the rar file on the comments! I have my Escape rooted and rolling.
I can now access the /data/data files for my pleasure.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YiO1PCY1nos
yes, it is in spanish. the steps are (assuming you already downloaded the drivers for android):
1) enable usb debugging.
2) set the usb connection to "PC Software"
3) enable unknown sources Settings>Security>Unknown Sources
4) Download the rar from the video link (you can run a security check to see if it is safe if you dont take my word for it, because i was leery at first as well about downloading from strange places, but i did and it passed)
5) unpack the rar and open it
6) Once the rar is open, click "Run.bat"
7) follow the script, the video has visual on what to do on the script
8) Use root checker or open an app that requires root to see if it is rooted.
BY ALL MEANS, dont hesitate to challenge a fresh new user on this site,
you shouldnt take just anyone's word for anything, but i can only be so honest.
After days of research, I found dud programs and even threads on this site that didnt work for me.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1976116
^ on this thread, this guy gave us a short description that he would finish his guide, but never did. After a struggling array of links and searches, I found this video, just before i turned it down around three minutes in, I looked at the comments. A large number of people, from this or last year, said it worked. Sure there were failures, but MINE IS ROOTED, AND IM FRIGGIN HAPPY.
To be clear, my phone is the LG Escape P870, with the android version 4.1.2
Edit: on another note. When i tried other rooting software such as Bin4ry or SRS Root, when prompted to click 'restore' the restore process would begin, and then immediately end afterward, like it just canceled the restore altogether. The software would either close out without a root, or be stuck in a never ending loop; thus, i will have to reset my phone and laptop to try again, with no avail.

[Root] [Guide] Obtain root via towelroot

Getting root on the stock 4.1.2 rom is very simple with towelroot.
Steps:
[1] Go to http://towelroot.com/ on your Relay and click the picture in the middle of the page, it will download an apk to your device.
[2] Install the apk you just download (you may have to allow unknown sources in settings)
[3] Click the make it rain button and wait 15 seconds. Your device will now reboot
[4] You are now rooted!
[5] Optional: Go to the Play Store or this thread and download the latest version of SuperSU.
[6] Optional: Launch the SuperSU app and follow the instructions there. If you do not have a custom recovery installed, do not choose that option for installation.
If you are still having trouble, follow this video. It is for the S5, but it is done exactly the same way!

I was brain-farting after a long day at work and I just couldn't get the Relay rooted using Odin. Switched ports, different cables, CWM, TWRP, side-load whatever .... towelroot got me rooted in two minutes. Would have been 1 minute but I didn't open it after downloading, so I had to do it again to "make it rain".
Of course, then I found out I was not entering download mode correctly using home key+vol down key+pwr key - guess I was so used to hold both vol up and vol down at same time on other phone. So .... didn't need it in the long run, but saved me some time and I donated to developer as well.
Thank you.
I have successfully obtain root and install Super SU using the instructions.
Paul
I realize that this is my first post, and that this is a bit of a necro, but I can verify that towelroot worked on my stock Relay SGH-T699, with Android 4.1.2
One thing I should mention is that viewing towelroot.com in Firefox on my phone resulted in just viewing a text file of the .apk instead of saving it as .apk. I had to download it on my PC and transfer it over. After that, it worked as advertised.
I would probably have more posts, but this actually solved my needs without me needing to ask anything.
Worked great for my Relay!

[TUT][ROOT+CWM+GAPPS]InFocus M512 Root, CWM and GApps tutorial.

So there is a bargain chinese 4G phone called the 'InFocus M512'.
The problem with it is that it comes without Google Apps and also is not rooted (sometimes is). Also it does not have CWM Recovery.
So this quick tutorial shows you how to root, install CWM Recovery and install google apps on the M512.
I'm not responsible for any damage
Rooting:
Method 1
1.Go to settings>>Security>>Check Unknown Sources tap OK.
2.Download this file.
3.Install
4.Run and tap 'get root' or somthing like that.
5.Delete KingRoot and some chinese app, but DO NOT DELETE KingUser!
6.Done!
Method 2
Flash CWM Recovery using the 2nd method from this post. If you have rooted usign the first method use method 1 from that post.
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip (i used 2.46)
Reboot into CWM.
Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip, press power button
Reboot now
GApps
1.Download this zip file
2.Reboot into CWM.
3.Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select the file, press power button
4.Reboot now.
How to delete KingUser (only if you have SuperSU and it is working)
Download ES File explorer, enable root explorer, go to /system/app and delete KingUser.
So this is how to get root, cwm and gapps on the m512.
First Method no good for me
I put the kingroot file in the adb tools folder and used the install command. It wasn't clear from the above whether the phone needed to be in recovery or some other mode so I tried a few times, in recovery mode and again just connected as an mtp device in the normal way. Either way the result was the same, it said "Invalid APK File: KingRoot.......".
I will have a go at the CWM thing next.
I am still on the 103A ROM that the phone came to me with - I have been trying, on and off, without success to update and then root it , for months.
When trying to flash an update ROM it tells me that the update package has unexpected contents and the there is an error in the update file and then says "Status 7". You can read all about my lack of success on this forum under the threads M512 started by Galaxy Why.
I'm trying, I really am....
Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.
Your instructions in normal my comments in italics.
Method 2: (No root)
1.Connect your phone via USB to your PC. OK
2.Enable MTP. OK
3.Enable USB Debugging. Settings>Developer Options> tick USB Debugging. OK
4.On your computer, 2 drives will appear: One of them is a CD-Rom which contains all drivers. OK
5.Click on that CD-Rom and it will install all drivers. It doesn't, or it may do, but what it definately does is asks me to put a disc in the drive and tries to do some kind of dir_all in windows explorer - I would post a screenshot here but this page only allows URL's- and I'm not sure how to go about that.. but I think I've managed to upload a screenshot....
After waiting for 5 minutes or so to see if something would happen as the green progress bar ground to a halt but the busy circle continued I hit the cancel button on the "please insert a disc dialogue" and then ploughed on anyway ....
6.Plug phone in again. Now this had me confused, I assume you mean unplug AND THEN plug the phone in again.
7.Download the .ZIP file and extract it somewhere. Which/what zip file do you mean exactly?? I couldn't get past this.
8.Click on _install_cwm_6.0.5.1.cmd
9.Your phone will ask you something, just tick "always allow from this computer" and hit OK.
10.Your phone will reboot into DL Mode, then it will reboot again.
11.Recovery is installed.
It's late and I'm tiring so sorry if missed something obvious. Any advice?

Looks like you don't have a adb driver
And... why do you want to root your phone? Installing CWM is not root required.
M512 comes with a unlocked bootloader, just boot into bootloader and you can flash anything you like.
I made a customized stock rom based on version 2280, bloatwares removed and Google Play framework included. (You can download the apps back from Play Store, if you needs those)
Now the phone has 2.09GB free spaces :victory:
If you were interested on it, I can upload it and give you a link.

I am interested in the custom rom you made for this phone. There's so little info on this model.
