Which ROM is Your Favorite? - Samsung Galaxy S Blaze 4G

First off, this is not "which is the best", this is "which is your favorite". People have their allegiances, I get it, but for those who are new or who want to try a different ROM, a thread here in the Blaze forums would be useful! I also understand there are other threads like this elsewhere in xda, but I want this to be Blaze exclusive!
Ok, so which ROM is your favorite and why? Be descriptive, let our community know!

And most important, this is not a knock on any dev. All you guys do amazing work and without you, we're not here!

My favorite ROM is Thomas.raines ParanoidAndroid! Second ROM I've ever flashed on this Blaze. I love all the features it has from looking like a Phablet to having a tablet UI! One day, I hope it would have the Halo notifications! But of course. We will have to wait for that CM10.1 everyone is waiting for!

Paranoid Android by TR is definitely a favourite. Ran it for a while, but needed stability for work so I went back to CM10 + BlueLightning kernel.

ParanoidAndroid was my second ROM as well and love it. Still love it. If only it had all the sound mods that LiquidSmooth has! The ability to change UI is awesome, the split screen settings menu, and the LZ kernel baked right in are major highlights! Recommend PA to anyone on this forum!

Started on Beastmode's slim bean, have currently been running all the latest Cm10 nightlies. With BlueLightning X2 kernel. Still switch back to slim for a change. Super stable and great battery life on both, can't go wrong.
Props to Racing for AOKP too, along with BlueLightning.

Bugless Beast back in the day on Droid 1! I guess because that was my first Android phone I rooted and the best ROM of the tons I tried!
Not the first time I 'rooted' 'jailbroke' or otherwise gained #su but I LOVED installing new homebrew applications on my PSP handheld gaming system too!
My next favorite ROM? The one developed by someone not trying to sell it to the attention if a kid. Seriously I can't talk professionally about this kind of stuff if I tell my co-worker I'm rooted running CandyCane Super Sweet K.K. for KUSTOM KERNEL on a modified JellyBean android custom ROM called Orange Sherbert Swirl and the amazing Technicolor Steamboat.
Yeah I made all that up just to get my point across! I felt it was necessary lol.

CM4Life plus all the inverted apps I can find from TeamBlackedOut.

Cm and tweaked. Used lz kernel.
Cm is just badass. Abd tweaked ifs the only stock Rom that kicks ass...
Oh and [email protected] of whatever...what a joke.
Thanks again guys for awesome roms!

Racing's AOKP. Smooth & stable, no crazy bells & whistles. I like the ROM Control settings. Not interested in split screen phablet stuff, the screen's not big enough for that. Only issus is CPU clock & governor settings not sticking after reboot, but I don't need to reboot that often.
Sent from my SGH-T769 using xda app-developers app

Racings AOKP-NOS injector-Racings Blue lightning X2 Kernel-AC!D Engine V5. I run underclocked at 1.296 most of the time unless i need the extra power. The combo is extremely smooth and stable. Never had a reboot, absolutely no lag, great gaming performance(oc'd GPU included with X2 helps), my average daily battery life is 12-13 hours with 4-4.5 hours screen on time, and almost all settings work as they should besides the built in cpu clock changer which works but doesn't stick after reboot. What more can you ask for?
Edit
Use kernel tuner for changing CPU clocks and governer as well as other great settings.
Edit again...
Forgot to mention I force 2G and disable data 75% of the time because most places I go have WiFi and the area I live in has "light green" coverage meaning there's ****ty 4G signal...Weak Signal=Bad Battery Life. Forcing 2G and disabling data improves battery life noticeably.

By force 2g you mean 'GSM Only' right?

Yes, I use a toggle to enable/disable whenever, instead of going through settings. AOKP has a bunch of customizable toggles within the ROM. Good stuff.

The only reason I have been on stock ICS is because instagram was having issues with jb. Or else I would be on a cm variant

I have. While in the option to select your filter the image disappears. Switching filters will bring it back, but only for a second. Workable, but annoying.

My issue was the app crashing when refreshing news feed. You can solve that problem by disabling something under developers settings. Sorry haven't been on jb in a while I can't recall what its called but you will see it. Its an option that is checked by default near the bottom of the page under developer settings

CM9 or AOKP?

what do u use and with what kernel? and what is the best set up?
You can't have other people choosing for you! lol everyone will have their opinions and liking towards different roms. I personally go for CM9 + InstigatorX's kernels. Some people go for AOKP or Chimaira other AOSP based and use Instigator's kernels. From there you have to choose which version or which governer is to your liking, if you prefer a certain setting like performance ones or power saving ones etc...
As for CM9 and AOKP I am an avid CM9 user but have used AOKP before. AOKP has a lot of customization right out of the box, CM9 is going from the ground up so they add features slowly and is constantly update almost once a day. AOKP they release one update every say 10-15 days~ and occasional milestone which will have more features than fixes. I like seeing updates gradually come and look forward to them on a daily bases thats why I stuck with CM9 and I like it for its stability. I've had a few FC's on the older AOKP but those are probably gone now with the latest milestone but features and readily available tweaks, the unicorn has them all (AOKP). I would personally make a nandroid back up and test them out yourself to see if its to your liking. My preference may not be the same as yours so its each to their own. :good:
Thanks for the reply bro, just wondering what the peeps on here were using, I think I'm going to stick with cm9, I really dig it, but I was wondering what kernel should I add, its a big mess with a bunch of releases on that forum lol

More 'features' in 4.0. But it may bootloop you. If you're ok with dealing with that then 4.0. I myself am trying to decide and I don't want to deal with bootloops so I just, right this second, decided to go with 2.2.1

I would go with 4.0. I was having trouble with my phone looping when I put on UCLF6 modem, I switched to the newest kernel and everythings been smoother. I would also say don't be afraid to try things out. Usually you will know what you like and don't like after you test a few configurations.
Just backup and keep multiple versions of the kernel in your SD so you can switch just in case it fails to boot. I'm currently using 4.0 badass underclocked to 1.1ghz when idling/light use and use smartassv2 when I play games.

I use Chimera RC2 and it is amazing with InstigatorX kernel. Had some trouble getting it to run at first but finally got it to run. As for setup, I prefer performance so I am working on getting it to stabilize with 1.7-1.8 OC. I am still testing governors and UV settings but SmartassV2 benchmarked pretty damn high compared to badass and ondemand.
RC3-(Official?) should correct issues and may be released today

In my humble opinion, CM9 tends to be a touch more stable than AOKP. But remember AOKP at its essence is CM9 with extra features thrown on, so it's bound to have the potential for a few more bugs. But both are very stable and won't give you any more issues than any other ROM really. Basically it's a question if AOKP's features are something you feel you want. I recommend spending about a week with both and then deciding.

To be perfectly honest, I haven't tried Codename-- yet-- because I'm already happy with the Nexus Beam ROM.
It has decent WiFi strength & solid battery performance.
I might give the other a try-- if I get bored with Nexus-- but I certainly don't feel like I NEED to do it any time soon.
Codename is prettier than Nexus Beam and also SEEMS faster and smoother, but both are slower than GB. I think whoever programmed ICS put kludge routines in the kernel to induce people to buy faster phones. NOT OUR DEVS! some technicians at Google, I suppose. Hint though -- kernel needs overclocking added.
Notes about 'awake' time between these 2 roms:
Codename build-1 kept 'awake' all the time, Beam pre-final is better, but still on and off for 'awake', longer for 'on' than 'off'. Codename build-2&3 got into deep sleep with no 'awake'. So, in terms of battery performance, recommend to go with Codename build-3, also better than other ics roms.
PS phone condition for the comparison: during the night time, wifi off, data off, airplane mode off.
Trying out code name to see how it runs

I was kidding about running that ROM at the moment, but it was the Froyo ROM I used the most until we finally got the KJ6 drop and the custom roms that came with it. It was so smooth and looked so good, I couldn't get enough of it.

CM10 M1 for aosp JellyBean, its very stable and fast
Synergy 1.7 for Touchwiz, its fast, crazy battery life, and has the mod for changing songs via the volume rocker with the screen off, some of the newer synergy builds had a delay in waking the phone for me
CleanRom is also nice, fast and great battery

In my opinion, Clean ROM is the most stable ROM available. I have been running 2.1 for a while and just updated to 2.5 with out any problems or crashes. I highly recommend! Scrosler is the bomb!:good:
I've gotta throw a vote in for Jellywiz... It's not the greatest on battery life, but it's a great daily driver.
I also liked Synergy ROM as well.
CleanROM for touchwiz, AOKP for AOSP jellybean.

My favorite so far for Jellybean has been Jellywiz, but it was a little buggy for my taste last time I ran it. The hot reboots were killing me.
Daily driver right now is CleanROM 2.1 with Clean Kernel 1.2, Dirty Tweaks 2.3 and Kinda Crap Mods. Best setup I've had over the past month, and really gives me the functionality and feel I like. I've flashed other stuff and keep restoring CleanROM.
But, you gotta try them out for yourself.
I gotta jump in here and spread some aosp love!! Paranoid 2.13 and Codename Android 3.6 are fantastic daily drivers. Ive been using CNA since Sunday. Super smooth, lots of customization, theme chooser, new SMS/MMS pop up,, etc...
When paired with lean kernel battery life is definitely do able!
You should at least give them a try!!

I've been running synergy since day 1 and been lovin it, had it on my dinc as well, amazing battery life, superb performance and no reception problems at all. currently using cm10 and have the same mod for changing songs via the volume rocker.
Overall i like the AOSP based roms best. The just tend to have a number of things not work or work well (GPS, audio issues, strength of signal, etc...). The TW ROMS are best with the stable releases, unless you like testing with daily.
I have most success doing complete wipes and a regular flash to stock when i hit weird issues.
CleanROMS are really fantastic, Beans is VERY innovative (just unstable on my phone), CM10 is great but will really come into its own when the issues are fixed.
Keep in mind that what is stable on one phone may not be on the next.

I am still pretty new to this however, a little background. I just switched over from drinking the Iphone cool-aid. Ever so thankful that I did! Im running AOKP Build2. I love it however the battery life eats it big time. I see everyone talking about Clean Rom and I think that is about what I want. Am I understanding correctly that Clean Rom is pretty much bare bones? All I care about is "Butter" and battery life! Thanks in advance from a noober!
My favorites due to reliability and use as a daily driver. Haven't had any issues with these gems:
Synergy - whatever the latest ICS touchwiz version is. (Using Imo's LeanKernel)
Code Name Android - whatever the latest version is. (Using KT747 Kernel)
+1 to CodenameAndroid. The sh*t is BEAST! I've always kept restoring back to Synergy because I never was truly satisfied with any other Rom. With CNA I've never even thought once about going back.

Good roms for me

Hey, so i have a question for all of you veterans on here. Im mildly experimental, so i just do the basic flash a rom here and there deal. However, im running hyperdrive rls14 with stock kernel on my Verizon s3. Since it gives me options to have beats audio, aosp email and clocks as well as other great features like the touchwiz motion controls, I've been running it for a few months now.But ive realized its heavy on my battery life, and my phone has been getting hot more often than before. I felt like that partially due to the amount of ram it takes up. So does anyone have any good suggestions as to what i run? Because ive heard things such as pure stock is boring and want to make a good decision.
Try bonestock v3.3 or clean Rom.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using xda premium
I won't suggest a rom as you can very well have a different experience then me. I am going to suggest some custom kernels and apps to improve your experience on any Touchwiz rom.
Kernels:Kt747, leankernel, and Zeus.
Apps: DS Battery Saver, Carat, Greenify, Wakelock Detector and Kill Media Server.
When I ran Zeus may have wrongly accused it for something some settings did on my phone. But i couldnt figure out how out how to access governors
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
Well Zeus already have defaulted settings so there is no need to mess with it.
That is the second time bonestock has been mentioned to me today... How's that compare to touchwiz rims.. Any cool features or is it just smoother

I have fallen in love with paranoidandroid from notta. I prefer notta's build because it has the kill app button so I never really gave ayysirr's build much thought.
Download ktoonz kernel regardless of the rom you choose, imo.
I used to use pacman but something happened and I switched, don't know why, and I never ended up going back
Sent from my SCH-I535 using Xparent Skyblue Tapatalk 2
Try it out. Bonestock is a stock Rom if you want it to be or you can mix it up with the aroma tweaks. Apparently you don't flash much at all. Anyone that has to ask has never took time to read the initial post of the thread.
Sent from my GT-P5113 using xda premium
Take some time out to read the op of these roms to see which you would like. Make a backup and start flashing away. Just because someone tells you a rom is good doesn't mean you'll have that same experience.

It's tough, since all recommended ROMs seem to be dead, according to my research.
- Carbon: doesn't support crespo anymore.
- Pixel ROM (first place at Setting.Out's chart - unless I got the wrong chart): discontinued
- Helly Bean: apparently discontinued. Can't find a download link.
I tried C10 and 11 and both battery life and performance (my main - and almost only - concerns) have been miserable.
There seem to be some new ROMs, but not much info about them. Right now I too don't know which one to use.
Give me some time and I'll upload a folder of ROMs I have, so you can try them..
Sent from my A001 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Yeah its a shame about the lack of development for the Nexus S but I don't blame them. Nothing last for ever and the devs want to move onto bigger and better devices.
I am currently trying the latest CM 11 nightly and its pretty good! I think I am going to stick with CM11 and see where it goes. Battery life is not as good as other ROM's and I also miss the dpi of Slimkat, but I suppose I could try a custom launcher if I want to change that in the future.
So CM11 all the way! (for now )
By reading Setting.Out's posts in many different threads and realizing how many hours he may have dedicated to this device, I concluded that following his steps would be the most sensible thing to do atm. Therefore I'm now trying CyanAOSP (straight from his signature) with his amazingly light Gapps package, and for me it's working way better than the CMs I tried before. Will search a bit more for possible improvements in kernel, governor and most likely Greenify, but I think I'll be ok with CyanAOSP.
As promised
-here- is a link to all the files I had left on my computer.. they are still uploading (+/- 17gb)
