Screensaver app? - Galaxy Note 10.1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey has anyone found a good screensaver app for when the tablet is plugged in via hdmi to prevent damage to the screen.
I keep going to settings->about->4.1->bean flicker to get that screensaver app but irs a bit of a pain in the a** to do every time!!
P.s ideally one that activates on its own after a set time and when docked

You shouldn't need a screensaver as these are LCD displays, not the the old CRT displays....
The old TV's had screen burn because the picture tube was coated in phoshorus and had electrons shot at it (bit more complicated but this is what happened essentially). If the electrons were fired at the same spot the phosphorus would get burnt away creating screen burn. Not possible with LCD.... Completely different way of doing things...
On PC's screensavers have been out since the old CRT monitors and have been left in as people like them, what a waste of battery power on a tablet though...

No need for a screensaver indeed. I personally like to use app called Screen Standby - see details HERE. Or from Google Play
"Switch off the screen temporarily without actually putting the phone into 'sleep mode'. The phone is still running! It saves your battery, avoids heating to prolong battery life" Borrowed from Google Play
I have used this app many times. Works very nicely when connected to TV via HDMI. Needs root.

if you still want a screensaver however: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.j4velin.ultimateDayDream

Nexus One Car Dock Disconnecting

I have the official Nexus One dock and it randomly disconnects from the phone while it's still docked. BT disconnects and it stops charging. It seems to happen more often when the phone gets hotter.
I have a feeling it's software related because it usually re-connects as soon as I change the orientation or un-dock re-dock really quick.
The only other thing that I can think of is that maybe it needs a better ground since I hardwired it into my car's power wiring.
Anyone else experience this?
Ive been meaning to make a thread similar to this but i guess its more appropriate not to waist threads...
The touch sensitivity dies when the screen is on for prolonged periods of time. for example when its in the gps dock, i will sometimes try to interact with the app and it wont register any touches at all or will get them completely off. but right when i turn off the screen then turn it back on again (even if its quickly) it'll go back to normal. Why? is it because of the heat being created? the phone does get hot when i use the gps for a long time.
I blame poor connections. Every now and again i have to wiggle the base of the dock where the contact pins are to seat the contacts
The screen is supposed to auto recalibrate, it doesn't seem to do a very good job of it. My phone is hopeless on winter mornings, about 30 seconds after turning it on in the morning I have to turn the display off and on again to force it to recalibrate or the bottom 1/3 of the screen stops working.
The issue is much less pronounced with the CM firmware than it is with the stock firmware though.
My fix for the Nexus dock
I also had this problem when I was using the phone in the horizontal position but when I turned it to vertical it started working again... not an ideal fix but it worked for me... also I found a small crack in the dock that makes the tab at the top stiff, it eventually broke through and I used a piece of shrink tubing to repair it back to help it push down on the prongs at the bottom.
On the other topic this screen sensitivity problem should be marked critical since I can't answer my phone without turning the screen off and back on again, I can't even count the amount of times I hung up on someone while fumbling to answer the phone.

The CurveFish OnOff widgets were the first widgets I downloaded when I got my new Motorola DROID. I needed to have complete control over my connections to save on battery life, and found a few little fun widgets along the way. And to have found a publisher that has released multiple widgets of the same theme excites the OCD inside me.

Which of the widgets fixes the dock calibration issues?

what is CRT animation?

I see it in every ROM thread but i have no clue how does it looks like and what it is suppose to be

It is beyond our mental capacity to truly understand what it is. It is the FUTURE.
This is more info then you're asking for, but CRT stands for Cathode Ray Tube. Any TV or Monitor that's not a flat screen (which is making me feel really old all of a sudden) used vacuum tubes and scanlines instead of individual pixels, and these tubes needed to be warmed up before they could turn on. That's why on older TVs you'd often turn them on, hear the sound, and then the picture would slowly fade in from black. When you turn them off, then, the picture kind of zaps out of existence, because it's an analog signal, instead of any LED or LCD screen, where all of the pixels are shut off instantaneously. The CRT animation mimicks that effect when you turn the display off on the phone.
Unrelated sidenote: How fun was degaussing CRT computer monitors? I remember I would wait weeks at a time to get a whole lot of magnetic buildup, and then when I finally hit the button and the picture shuddered back to life, I thought it was the coolest thing in the world.

[Q] Xoom as Alarm Clock

My antique alarm clock just died. I was thinking it might be possible to use my Xoom as a replacement but I cannot find a way to dim the screen while on it's docking station. The screen simply sleeps. Is there a way to use the Xoom in the cradle and have a setting to keep the screen active so one can see the time?
Thanks.

Are you rooted? If so, there are apps to really dim the screen. If not, you could use Screen Filter.
Try 'alarm clock plus' in the market. Works great.
Tried three of the "Alarm Clock Plus" and they all did a force close. I didn't want to try all of them so I thought I would ask for specifics.
On the screen filter option, all it did was dim the screen and not show the clock screen. It also did a force close when trying to get to the settings.
Thanks though.
I have been using gentle alarm for months. It has a night display mode that I use and is not to bright.
I use superdim and it works well for me.
I go into the development section and turned on Keep Backlight On When Connected to USB then I use the standard clock, works perfect for me
Try one of the Nightstand clock apps by Digital Guesswork, Nightstand Bold has a dimmer control on the side.
while on the docking station you should be able to go to "clock" or if not choose it from your app drawer, it has a alarm option on the screen and by touching anywhere on the screen it will dimm. I am now on ics nightly but I think honeycomb was the same way, correct me if im wrong.
edit* - i also just realized that if you hold on the screen anywhere it will dimm to a different format of clock, so if this doesnt work on honeycomb i know it works on ics so if you can live without bluetooth and a camera (if your on honeycomb) which are the only thing currently not working that this will work as you described you wanted

Just do this.
Development settings on Android to prevent screen from sleeping while plugged in.
Screen dims when it hits your auto sleep time limit instead of cutting the screen off.

Screen Standby (HDMI out + Black Screen FTW!)

As I'm sure many of you know, HDMI mirroring on the Infinity works well, but having two screens on while watching a video or playing a game is distracting.
Screen Standby is a new root app that disables the backlight on your tablet or phone while still allowing touchscreen functionality to remain active. That means while your tablet may look off when outputting to HDMI, you can still use it to pause, change apps, and do whatever you want while saving battery life at the same time. To turn your display back on simply shake the device. Unfortunately the proximity sensor function isn't working at the moment, at least on CM10.
I'm surprised it's taken this long for an app such as this to come along, but I can confirm it works on our infinity and on CM10 as well.
You can find it for free at the play store here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nkahoang.screenstandby
and the XDA thread here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1934495
And I would suggest you turn on two-stage screen off as that allows you to switch to whatever app you want to run before you go dark. Hope this helps!
Interesting... I've been wanting something similar to this. Think I'll be trying it out once I get my cable.

Initial impression - good potential, poor execution

I may have a lemon S2 Classic. 24 hours in and there are 3 relatively bad issues:
- Pedometer step counter does not work AT ALL. Wore watch all day and it shows I took *zero* steps.
- Heartbeat measuring is a major fail. Click the icon, and the resulting curve is erratic & all over the place. Never even locks on a heart rate and eventually gets to a "try again" button every single time.
- I have display set to always on. After a few seconds, it reverts to a plain black display with clock hands only. No other features. I can live with that, but wait a few minutes more and the screen goes completely black until I touch it or shake it to wake it back up.
I'm hoping someone can point out tips that mean some of this stuff is just user error, but I've spent a ton of time combing the settings both inside the watch as well as inside the phone app. HTC One M9, by the way, and the BT paired without a problem. Thinking Best Buy is about to get a watch returned! Thoughts on what I'm missing?
Sounds like you have a bad unit. My steps have been as accurate as any other wearable I've used. The heart rate monitor is excellent (you need to wear it snug though)... I can't comment on the ambient display as I don't use it

I think You should return it - the problems You mentioned don't occur on my S2c.
The pedometer is not perfect, at least not before You make more than ~10 steps. If less, the smartwatch is not recording it (as far as I read, it suppose to work like that, cause devs implemented it to be 'eco-energy' and not start recording with every move). But in daily use it works fine for me.
Heartbeat sensor should record fine, maybe the grip on the belt is to loose? Try to make some activity with sHealth and observe if the sensor records anything.
About display - if You choose from settings 'always on' it WILL show only plain black display with clock hands. That's how it suppose to work If You are interested in having the face always turned on then look in the Store for 'I am Alive' app.
