how would you remove the plastic film that comes with the tablet - Transformer TF300T Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

it was a stupid decision that i decided to not remove the plastic film that came with the tablet. (on all smartphones or tablets they always put a plastic film on the device so that it can prevent dust and stuff, samsung even puts some processor, ram information on it)
after months of using it now i want to remove it so i can put the screen protector on it, or at least i want to remove it because it seems collect too much dust and fingerprint and make the touch screen harder to use. but it's "glued" and i can't remove it now.
i tried using fingernails and clear tape but couldn't remove it.
does anybody have any idea of what i can do? thanks

Just peel it off? No other way of removing it.

Well I would guess that you will have to heat it up a bit to get it to come off and you may have to use a bit more force than you might like.

Damn that's not good at all dude. It sounds like the screen protector was exposed to some heat and melted to your screen. I would call the manufacturer and tell them everything and maybe they will send you a new one. Good luck!

Just peel what you can off and use some sort of cleaning solution to gently rub off the residue. You would think the plastic comes off pretty easily, but if left on for too long, I've seen this happen on more than a few occasions.

[Q] Whats with the screen?? Friction

Hi guys!
Im confused.. whats up with the screen on the transformer?
I bought a Pogo stylus and tried it on a ipad, then my iphone. Works fine. When using it, it just glide without any resistance.
But when i use it on my transformer theres some resistance. I have to use more force and it just dont feel smooth.
Same goes when it comes to cleaning the screen. Its hard as hell to remove dirt and fingerprints. On other screens i just have to wipe them off. But on transformer its really hard..
Anyone experience the same as me?
Should be exactly the same as the iPad. If I remember right, they're both IPS Screens with Gorilla Glass from Corning. I also haven't really been experiencing the same thing as you, cleaning-wise at least, but I don't use a Stylus at all.
It disappears after a short time using it.

A few reviews mentioned this as being common on these types of electronics. I just gave it a really good polish with a cleaning cloth when I got it and 90% of the sticky has worn off.
I put a coat of Crystal-Glo on mine.
I just got mine and I experienced the same too. Feels rough plus I have large dust particles stuck between the screen

Dust under the screen issue, wrong to return to bestbuy?

I bought the asus tf101-1a on black friday. I noticed dust was settling in on the bottom on the screen and returned it and had to go thru hell just to get them to exchange for a tf101-a1. Now after 2 hours of having it,big build up of dust on the bottom right and a dead pixel and i just opened it up!! Am i wrong to go back to bestbuy and explain my case and get yet another replacement?

We've all heard the old saying "The customer is always right." Sadly, that's not always the case. I agree you deserve a unit you are satified with, no doubt. But consider the possibly the "perfect" tab doesn't exist? Not saying you should not pursue a return, mind you but I recall a few months back when Some people were complaining of light bleed. How did they see the light bleed? Went into a room completely dark, turned down their screens then looked. Now, how many users actually DO this in normal use? I guess I'm saying only you can decide what is "acceptable" or "not acceptable". Also, keep in mind BB has a "Frequent Return Policy" where they track and ban returns from chronic return-ers. Just sayin'
IMO the dead pixel would be more an issue than dust but then I can't see what you see!
Good luck!
Well i just opened the tf and the dead pixel was right there. Ive nver returned anything from there,it looks like black dots on the screen where the dust is. The purpose of a tablet is the size and resolution and difference from a android phone. I love the tablet, but nowhere do i read others having this issue. Wether i paid $249 or $399, i feel i deserve to have a tablet experience without the non sense. Thanks for your advice

Of course return it. If it is a dead pixel...Asus QA is doing something wrong. The fact that you have dust could lead to more dust. Once the warranty is over, you'll have to pay out of your pocket to fix it, if there is such a problem.
Yes there is,i exchanged the product and got home at 930ish and opened it up and immeditately i saw it. Then i turned it on and bam a dead pixels. One dead pixel without use of the tablet means fauty lcd and heavy dust only means more dust as u said (htc sensation days). Hell as i type the power button is rattling.

Dust under the glass is extremely irritating! Luckily, its super simple for us to clean the back side of the glass as the Transformer has two extremely accessible hex screws near the charging port. Remove them, and you can easily take the glass out and clean it (or just blow air through it and seal back up)
I made it about 6 months before I started to notice the dust behind the glass... the rear camera however gets obscured by dust relatively quickly and requires me to take the cover off and clean the backside of the camera lens about once a month.
So, the dust is a simple fix. The dead pixel however, that sucks. I'd return it for that, or have Asus warranty it at this point since Best Buy is probably fresh out of stock..
hopefully you get it sorted out. The Transformer is a great device! I love mine!
Its the tf101-a1 model and i didnt know its simple to disassemble, thank u. But what are the odds of geting a worse case of dust by doing this procedure?

basically removing the screws by the connector will allow you to remove the bezel, which will expose the inside. Should be pretty easy from there I think. Just use compressed air
Does opening the transformer up void its warranty?
Cause I wouldn't want to void it over a speck of dust really.

I know this is an older thread, but I just noticed an annoying dust buildup in my TF101, just under the glass (middle part of the screen...) and wondered if I could clean it myself. A Google search provided several links to help crack the tablet open, but none mentioned how to actually remove the glass from the screen. How exactly can this be done, without nuking the digitizer? Any insights would be welcome, thanks.

so do you think it needs a screen protector or not?

i guess it's pretty well confirmed no gorilla glass on the device, but a generic version of the hardened glass instead. so curious how protective it is and what your experience/recommendation is.
i ordered the armorsuit, but not sure if i want to use it. the thought of getting lint trapped in between screen protectors and the screen always makes me anxious about installing them at all. i know that's weird...
my 2 year old samsung focus with gorilla glass has 2 scratches from sitting in a cubby hole of a golf cart after a round of golf. no idea how that happened but i'm sure it had to do with sand...needless to say i've never had another device with scratches, and i don't intend on taking the tablet golfing...
i'd say keep the device naked for a few days then apply the ghost armor. if you install it and it looks umbearable then take it off. even if you get a few light scratches they won't be noticible when the device is on.

I always keep mine on the keyboard dock so its not like a phone when its in your pocket with money or keys.
I probably won't put one on.
I have one on and use the dock at times. I find it does stick to the dock making it a bit hard to open at times. But, I feel much more comfortable with it on, even if there is still some unevenness with my shield.
To be sure I installed a Phantomskinz screenprotector. Less smudges on the screen too.

I just put one on cause I have a clumsy wife and 3 young kids. It's whatever BestBuy installs. If it was just me I wouldn't put one on. It makes the screen a little sticky or too grippy. It doesn't let your finger slide across so easily.
Mine took a 6ft fall onto a concrete stepping stone in our garden the other day, and aside from a small ding in the outer case, no scratches on it this is amazing since it landed face down right on the screen.

Just picked my tf300 up this month, i am still thinking about the screen protector. but i had a question about leaving the tablet docked and carrying it. I have heard that doing that would increase the chance of cracking the screen if it was placed in a spot with a bit of pressure example like a backpack. Also do you any recommendations for a case that is compatible with the dock and is it advised?
Thank you in advance.

I have been carrying the tf300 with dock to almost all the places while travelling, including on a ship while carrying out the ship's trials. It has almost replaced my netbook. Had absolutely no problems carrying on a backpack. Still have the screen protector applied though as it prevents stuffing due to docking and undocking.
I have a cheap cloth sleeve type of cover to avoid dust accumulation which fits the docked tab comfortably. It is my experience, YMMV.
Sorry for the bad English, it is not my first language.

I have SGS 1 for two years, always in pocket with keys and stuff without screen protector and I don't have a single scratch on screen. Casing is beaten, but screen is like new.
I had TF101 with dock for a year and a half, always in backpack with all kind of stuff (USB discs, cables, name it, it was there), writing on it with Adonit Jot pen, and I had not have a single scratch on screen.
Now I have TF300T without screen protector in same backpack with same stuff in it.
For me personally, those screen protectors were needed in times when we had resistive screens, now they are relic made with only purpose to rip you off.

Plastic Wrap Under Trackpad / Dock?

Does anyone else have a weird plastic (Saran-style) wrap along the edges of the dock's trackpad?
It looks kind of like the remnants of the protective plastic film that keeps new electronics from getting scratched-up. It's really difficult to get out of the seam between the trackpad and the wrist rest.
What the heck is it?
I certainly do *not* have that around my trackpad at all....
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
I have that plastic wrap looking around the edges of the trackpad it's not noticeable. I don't want to mess with it, as it might just be a skin for the trackpad.
Cheers
Could you post a picture? I have absolutely no plastic like you're describing around my track pad.
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using xda app-developers app
Im not sure if you can see it, as I said its really unnoticeable.
If you look at the sides of the trackpad it looks like something you can peel off.
Hmmm, from the looks of that picture, it looks like a) your trackpad is "raised" slightly - mine is completely flush with the dock casing. Also, from that picture, it looks like the the little rubber pad is not centered with the middle of the trackpad (may just be the picture though). The rubber pad on my dock is right smack dab in the middle of the trackpad.
Are those two observations really true (like I said, it's hard to tell for sure from the pic)...
Sent from my ASUS Transformer Pad TF700T using Tapatalk 2
The picture was taken in angle to see those plastic looking stuff, however the rubber is centred, and the track pad is raised by a hairline.
Cheers
Scrape it off

I had that too. It turned out not to be plastic wrap, but rather some residual coating, like an over spray of clear shellack or something. I used my thumbnail to lightly scrape it off the edge. Maybe that is what they sprayed on the touch pad to protect it?

Thanks for the pic. Now that I can see what you're talking about I've looked at my docking station for the same thing and I don't see it. The outer edge of my trackpad has a shine to it, right on the bezeled (is that a word?) edge, but only when viewed at the right angle. It is possible that this piece had some light weight protective plastic that covered it during assembly and was removed late or improperly.
I would say that if it's not hampering the function of the touchpad, then don't worry about it.
I had the same thing and scratched it off with a finger nail just like the other poster.
Mine has that and the one in the store had that, too. I was afraid to touch it, but I'll scratch if off now.

Scratch removal

I'm not sure how, but I have a few small scratches only one is visible without shinning a light on it and really only if you know where to look
Anyways has anyone had any luck removing small scratches
Maybe clear nail polish would do the trick...
Though some people have said that a screen protector makes them less visible
Thoughts?
