[Q] Touch screen wackiness - General Questions and Answers

I've had an issue with my Droid4 periodically where the screen will seemingly navigate all on its own without any interaction from me. This always happens when it's plugged into USB for syncing music. Just now I had the phone sitting on my desk without USB plugged in and when I tried to open an application, the icon 2 below was launched. The phone was sitting next to my PC speaker (small, but within a couple inches of the cone. Is it possible that the magnetic field from this speaker could cause the capacitive touchscreen to respond different than expected? When connected to USB, the phone is in a different location on my desk, but it's a few inches from my PC. Could the hard drives or some other component cause these types of issues? I know the phone itself works fine, I'm just curious if this is a known issue such that I should avoid even weak magnetic fields.

Touchscreen Problem and Intermittent Sync Problems

After a little over two months my Treo (unbranded, UK purchased) suddenly seems to have been struck down with a number of issues that others have reported. I've obviously been lucky until now!
Unresponsive Touchscreen
Firstly, I've become affected by the "unresponsive screen" problem. It seemed intermittent at first, and I thought it was just slow performace, but now it seems much the same as has been reported by others.
After a soft reset the screen seems to repond to the first touch, but then after that it fails to repond correctly. I say that it doesn't repond correctly because it does actually seem to repond to touch, but it just doesn;t register the selection. So a touch on the screen will cause the keyboard to light up, but the input doesn't seem to be passed to whatever application is open.
I've tried the "Remove the battery and put it in the fridge" trick, and this does seem to work, but only momentarily (as reported by many others). What I can't figure out is whether there has ever been any resolution to this. The thread on the Palm suport forum has posts from a few people who have had replacement models shipped, but since this goes back to April I was kind of hoping that it might have been fixed by now!
Intermittent Sync/Sync Failure
The other problem I've now got is a problem syncing. I have two different sync cables and two different laptops, and the problem occurs with any combination of laptop and cable. Basically, it's very difficult to get the Treo to be recognised correctly and then sync consistently.
When I plug the Treo into the laptop it makes some sort of connection because it vibrates (when on silent) and the LED lights. One of two things will then happen. Either ActiveSync will recognise the connection and show "Connecting", or I will get some kind of USB connection error from XP.
When I do manage to get AS to start "Connecting" then it sill often fails, as it doesn't appear to startup AS on the Treo itself. Sometimes the sync will start correctly, but then at some point during the 'Synchronising' process it will just fail and AS on the laptop will show 'Device Not Connected'
I suspect this is very much down to the extremely flaky looking connections on the sync cable (why, oh why could you not just use Mini USB Palm?? ). I have seen a number of suggestions about cleaning the connections with alcohol, or with a toothpick. I have tried this, and it seemed to work initially but after a single sync I'm still hacing problems. Has anyone found and 3rd party sync cables to be any better at making a consistently robust connection?
thanks
Mark
I had two opinions for my Treo
first one after two or three weeks using it was
"THIS IS THE WORST PALM and/or HTC product ever"
second, after about two months using it was
"IT IS NOT SO BAD"
after buying additional sync cable now im saying
"IT IS MORE BAD PRODUCT THAN GOOD PRODUCT"
1. Touchscreen driving me crazy.
Do not install today screen option of Speed dialing or Picture dialing programs because at the end of the month, the phone bill will supprise you and your face will be like this >:-( f$^^#$^!
This is a big problem.
All HTC products have different issues with touchscreen and this is the worst one.
Better to produce in the future non-touchscreen devices (smartphone devices)
2. Synchronization drive me crazy
Sometimes i can sync it
Sometimes no f**ing sign of syncing
Sometimes there is (USB device cant be recognized)
Sometimes it stops and the beggining
Always stops after screen turning off !
P.S. I have two different NEW sync cables.
Can you recommend me some other sync program????
3. There also volume issues
I have problems with conversation volume and ringing volume.
On the same level it sometimes loud and sometimes quiet.

Touch pro usb doesn't work? (not the syncing)

Well for a while I thought my usb just died on my phone. I thought it got wrecked by physical damage like a power surge coming through mah pc when booting up and such...
But I just thought, well what the heck, and I flashed an old htc stock rom.
Now when I connected my phone to the pc, my touch pro gave me the 3 option screen.
activesync,sd,internet
But the pc did not detect any new hardware .
So I sadly flashed back to my energy rom. But al of the sudden when I wanted to connect my touchpro to the pc for charging, it asked me what to do (3 option scnreen), and the also detected my touch pro (well now my touchpro, it just saw something got connected).
So my pc tried ti install the drivers, it said it installed pockec sync usb something. But device center didn't notice any phone.
So I thought, too bad, but whne I disconnected the phone I heard a sound when disconnecting usb hardware.
Now the pc doesn't detect my touch pro when plugging in.
But this is proof it isn't physical damage (atleast I think).
Cause of the usb failure.
I was flashing a couple of months ago, when it suddenly started to stop at the middle. (each time it was another point so no damaged rom).
so I was able to flash it form my pc that time, but the times after that I had to flash from sd. Also when I tried to connect my phone, the pc lost connection with the phone after 40 secs.
Does someone know what to do? Please help me, usb is kinda important .
Btw, I have got this problem at every pc, also with every cable.
And now windows keeps saying an unkown device connected.
And shortly after windows detected my phone it undetects its.
(i hear two beeps in a row)
Yes I have disabled fast usb to pc
I forgat to mention that my pc doesnt reconize the device,
and with this rom my touchpro doesn't know it is connected
(It doesnt want to sync or anything), doesnt see it got plugged in.
Is there n1 here wich knows the solution??!
This problem is caused by damaged mini usb port on your device.
Actually this this new mini usb with 11 pin used in Touch Pro in & many other HTC device has a very delicate & thin plastic piece in middle. Quite visible from outside, this acts both as separator for the 2 layered pins of mini usb & base for connectors when u insert a usb to connect a pc or the audio cord.
This small plastic separator gets cracked if you do not handle usb connections properly.
Now here is the solution -
1.Remove battery
2.Look into mini usb port on device, see if there is a crack in between
3.If yes take a fine needle just press the cracked part so that the whole piece gets leveled.
4. Then you can put a small drop of quick drying fixer at the outer tip of this plastic part, take care it doesn't go inside otherwise it will create a layer on connecting plates.
Hope it helps you.

HDMI MHL - Shutting off phone display while connected to Sentio Desktop?

Working on a project to turn my phone into a desktop without a need for too specialized adapters and without root. Using my LG G5 for testing this. Have a MHL USB Type C adapter that contains USB, HDMI, and Type C in (charging). The setup works well, and I'm able to hook in my keyboard, monitor, and mouse perfectly. Screen resolution is slightly cut off on the top and bottom edges. It seems to mirror the display of my device. Could imagine it troublesome for taller phones like the S8.
This can be fixed without root, as you can give Sentio Desktop permissions to edit the display settings.
HOWEVER, I don't see anyway to turn off the display when plugged into the adapter and keep running the same.
This is more of a long-term problem. Having the screen on for extended period of time will cause heat issues, not to mention wear on the screen.
Is there any kind of way to turn off the phone's display when hooked in, akin to closing the lid on a Mac when hooked to a monitor (without root preferably)?
Did you ever find out how to do this? Bugs me too!

Pulling data with a dead screen (replace attempted) and number lock

The screen on my Motorola Droid Ultra broke (no visual, no touch that I can figure). It has a numeric lock screen (I know the code still) and although I have a computer that has connected to it previously, without unlocking it it will not show up in My Computer.
My primary goal is to be able to pull out Color Note memos and browser tabs/bookmarks for two or three browsers. Having it working would be neat but not required.
I envision this being done by fixing the phone (new screen) or some program that can have my computer serve as screen and input for the hardware.
USB debugging is off - probably because it broke Pokemon Go. SIM removed and disabled (been working on this off-and-on for over a year, at this point I am just stubborn and wanting to learn).
I tried replacing the screen, or rather, pulling out of board and putting it into a different Droid Ultra (same phone, different screen/digitizer and case). It did not work. I opened it up and tried reconnecting, still nothing. When plugged in as one does to charge it intermittently vibrates, which according to the internet seems to mean there is no screen connected. There is.
I have a pigtail USB, microUSB male, micro usb female, and with all that plugged in to the phone, computer (via charger/phone cord), and a keyboard the keyboard does not light up (capslock, num lock) but the phone starts the occasional buzzing for (what I assume is) the screen "unplugged". Not entirely sure how to know is phone is on or off, or if it will turn on at all with the screen "not connected" as it seems to think.
I so want to just be able to pull out the keyboard and plug it in like I can do with real computers. >.<
Any Ideas?
use a OTG cable and connect a mouse, it works!
look for screen mirroring software, to share data with your pc.

Phone signal weaker when screen is off and unplugged.

So i've had this with two phones now (currently using an S10). At work I use Google Messages for Web to have my texts appear on my web browser. However, it randomly will sit there and say it can't connect or needs to reconnect. If I turn on the phone for like a little and check it, it usually reconnects fine, or If I leave the phone plugged into a charger it will also pretty much never have the issue.
Is there any simple solution for this or why for instance plugging into power would solve this? It's not like I have data disabled, it works probably most of the time with the screen off it's like it diverts power from the antenna though with the screen off and unplugged.
