[Q] wifi icon and 4G icon showing at the same time. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I recently unrooted my galaxy S3 and returned to stock.
But now both the wifi icon and 4G icon appear at the same time. Please I do I fix this?
Android version: 4.1.2
Build: VRBMD3
Thanks.

It seems to be related to the new "Caller ID" app that VZW included with the update in the past couple of days. It's a trial program that will cost $$$ if you want to run it permanently. One solution is to simply remove the app (have to be rooted to do this though). Others reported toggling WiFi and/or data off and on or something also solved it.

Sounds like the symbol I used to get when connected to a vzw network extender

You can disable on a non-rooted phone but it won't remove the app.

A couple fixes for some of our problems

Lets face it. All devices have bugs upon release that the normal person won't care about nor think of it as a bug. This device has it's share but as a reminder. There is no software bug that can't be fixed. By the way, make sure you don't skip the initial setup and if you did just wipe and restore.
1) Some are having a problem when using WiFi. There 4G or 3G data is not turning off and instead of your device using WiFi to exchange data it is using your 4G or 3G data. If you turn WiFi on and don't see a 4G/3G icon in the notification area then your device is working properly in this department.
The Fix: There is three "My Account" apps on our devices and there causing a conflict when 2 or more is running at the same time. To fix this you need to delete all of them (I used Root Explorer). If you use "My Account" you can download the current version from the market. Next, freeze or delete WiFi calling and the T-Mobile app pack. After you have deleted everything you have to reboot your device. Note: While deleting or freezing some of these, you might get some looping force closes. Just simply remove your battery to reboot the device and once it reboots the force closing will be gone.
2) Some are having a problem when moving from cell tower to cell tower. If you are losing a data signal every once in a while but the 4G/3G icon is still showing in the notification area, you need to do the fallowing.
The Fix: Go into your Mobile Network settings and make sure your device is setup to automatically use GSM/WCDMA. Then click on search for networks and at this point you will see T-Mobile UMTS, T-Mobile GSM and ATT GSW. After they appear click on select automatically. While your at it go ahead and click on data roaming since T-Mobile has contracts with other providers so your able to roam on there towers. Don't worry, you won't be charged for roaming since T-Mobile only charges for international roaming. After all this do a reboot.
Some of you think that there is a problem with your battery if your device is showing your "cell standby" above 30%. This is not a problem. Every time you charge your G2X it will reset usage percentages as you know. Well if you emediatly start using your phone and don't put it down for 2 hours than I promise you that your display will be at the top of the list. Obviously if your device stays off for a little bit and upon waking it you look at your battery statistics your going to see Cell standby and Phone idle at the top since the display was off. If your wandering why Cell Standby is using more juice than WiFi it's because when you turn your display off it automatically sleeps your WiFi.
The percentages in your batter statistics need to add up to 100%-105% and something is going to use more than the rest depending on what your doing with your device after removing it from charge. Ask yourself this. If my G2X is in my pocket for 1 hour after removing it from it's charger. What would I like to see using most of my battery? I can tell you right now. Certainly not your display since it's been off the entire time.
There's only one MyAccount app on the phone. I looked myself in the System/app folder. If you see multiple MyAccounts in a task manager it is just another instance of the same application.
Also there's NOTHING wrong with Wifi Calling or My Account. I have both on and use them extensively. My phone has gone now 26hrs without a reboot or hitch of heavy usage. Wifi works, 3G/4G works perfectly. I don't have any issues right now...until the next reboot
Want to give people another perspective since you don't have to give up MyAccount or Wifi caling to have a usable phone.

Thats WHY you don't have any problems. Because you only have 1 "MyAccount" application. Those of us that had 2 or 3 have the problems. By the way I had 3 and no they weren't showing in task manager. They were all deleted using Root Explorer.
Where did you see them? They were all in system/app??!?
Odd how they could all exist together - were they named differently?

Yes, different version numbers and branding included in the apks. I had 2, version 1 and version 5.x.
OP, for some reason when I try Search Networks I get: "Error while searching for networks." Any ideas?

They all existed in the system folder. It seemed like instead of the new versions updating the existing app, they were just creating new files. Your right, it is odd but I can see how that would create a problem.

I got the same thing. I had to enable wifi, then shut off wifi calling. Then it worked.

Rogers Captivate recent update breaks tethering

A couple of days ago, I found that a recent update (or something) seem to stops wifi tethering from working on the rogers captivate, giving me the "tethering is not set up on this account, please contact rogers customer care." message.
SOLUTION:
For those who don't wish to read the details and just want to fix it:
The solution that worked for me was to install titanium backup and remove the "tethering manager" apk.
I'm guessing the tethering manager program somehow got reactivated by a program update (rogers say that they allow tethering on all 1gb+ accounts). I thought this because just before giving me the error message, right after I activated mobile AP, there was a little message at the bottom that said "on tethering authorization.."
It has to be from a recent update (I suspect the rogers myaccount program), because immediately after factory resetting the phone, wifi tethering was once again working. However, after running all market updates, it stopped again. I also tested it out by running market updates on a friend's captivate (who' technologically handicapped and rarely updates anything), which lead to his wifi tethering breaking the same way.
I hope this isn't a ploy by rogers to get more people to buy a rocket stick. When I first discovered that mobile AP tethering wasn't working, I went to the store to check that my account terms hadn't been changed or something. The chap behind the counter told me it was probably due to water damage on my phone.
I know that uninstalling tethering manager isn't anything new, but this appears to be a recent problem as my wifi tethering was working shortly before. I just thought that I would quickly provide a solution for any others in the same specific situation.
Are you running off CM7 or any other custom ROM's?
What kind of data plan do you have?
Lol. This is something we've known about and dealt with since AT&T's official 2.2 came out.

Phone Automatically Reboots (Data Usage Unexpectedly Stops Working)

Hey Guys.
Been having problems with my Z5 E6653 (5.1.1, Build: 32.0A.6.200) Lately unsure exactly what caused it.
The device is NOT rooted and using stock firmwares.
The device will self reboot randomly at times, however it appears I can almost guarantee it will reboot faster and is reproducible by enabling and disabling the mobile data and when being used as a hotspot. The 'Data Usage' tab under 'Settings' does not work it goes to open then force closes and says it stopped working.
Anyone have any ideas? You guys tell me where to get the logs from and I will post them here
One last thing.. In before someone says "Factory Reset" I know it will fix this issue as it did in the past however I am looking for solutions to fixing this without resorting to a factory reset if possible. I don't have internet at my house I rely mobile data and hotspots.
Stuff you guys probably want to know about.
Some stock apps are disabled "Google Hangouts, Movie Creator, File Commander" (I don't use these at all and until locked bootloader root is available they will be disabled until deleted with TB. I have disabled notifications for some downloaded apps namely games like Cut the Rope and so to remove silly toast and push ads.

I had something similar happen in LP, I suspect related to disabling some of the bloat. From your list I disabled all save hangouts, try to reenable them all then only disable one by one. Can't you upgrade to MM though, it appears this has been solved.

Yea I tried that didn't work. Ended up factory reset. Well MM isn't out on the Telstra operator. Been waiting for it though read a lot about bugs so I'll hold off until the kinks are worked out. Cheers though.
Not sure I agree that's it's been fixed - I'm on stock MM and have a random reboot at least once a week - normally when playing audio (PowerAmp) when connected over Bluetooth in the car.

Wifi turning off on it's own

Just started recently. Wifi calling is off. Didn't see any other setting. Anyone know?
It might be because I have wifi smart settings turned on but just recently turned off GPS. Just to turned it back on so we'll see...
Apparently it's not those settings. Problem still persisting. Anyone know please speak up.
Been dealing with same issue. Seen people talk about turning off optimizations for certain apps that is a possible fix. Google connectivity and wifi.
Thanks. How do you do this?

It's in the app settings in the 3 dot menu under optimizations. Like I said it seems to be a hit or miss.

It's an app that assists with Wifi connection. You can find it in the Play store under Google Connectivity Services so you know what the logo looks like, at least in case it's under a different name. Namely used to automatically connect you to good public WiFi APs and auto-tunnel you to Google's VPN.
fixed it for me
Try installing the app called "WIFI KeepAlive" (the one with a grey antenna not green wifi bars)
This fixed it for me

Am I the only one that has mobile data issues with Oreo?

I've submitted this issue since July but the problem exists for me since the very first Developer Preview. Basically my Pixel behaves normally when connecting to both WiFi and mobile data. But sometime during the day the phone "loses" mobile data and a Mobile data has run out message appears, even though I have a prepaid line with enough quota still available. I had the issue in DP1, DP3 and final Oreo version (skipped DP2 and DP4) and nothing goes on with the submitted issue. So I've avoided updating because obviously I need my mobile data at all times.
There is some people commenting on the issue but I don't feel like Google is taking this seriously.
Google is working on a fix.

I have the same issue too.But few days ago,I disabled the system app "carrierdefaultapp" by a third-party app (my pixel was rooted) and the issue disappeared.

ice box or you can delete the carrierdefaultapp(/system/app/CarrierDefaultApp) by RootExplorer
I have pretty good signal on my Pixel XL Android 8.0.0 Oreo.

yep, can confirm this works. It's been like 5 days and I have not encountered the issue any more. I don't know how I didn't think about that. Thanks!
Wouldn't going into Developer options under Networking and disabling "Mobile Data always active" accomplish the same thing? I thought the bug responsible for this is that Oreo enables this by default.

doesn't seem to be related at least in my case, just removed the CarrierDefaultApp and that was it. BTW I checked and the toggle is off but I don't remember if it was toggled on before.

By removing CarrierDefaultApp are you removing all mobile data capability?
No, I can toggle data on and off as usual. That just removes the new data-management functionality which appears to be broken for some of us.
