mine is class 4 sd card which stopped working.. i am getting an error while trying to mount through cwm.. 'error mounting /sdcard'
even my desktop not able to recognize. I am usuing galaxy ace 5830. Please suggest how i can format my sdcard?
PS: i did spent one hour searching here but there are so many threads but no suitable answer.
Thanks,
Arun
I am able to get it connected in another pc.. it shows in diskpart as unusable.. what does that mean?
try to format it from cwm

If diskpart shows it as unusable, and you are unable to partition it back to FAT32, then it probably means that the card is corrupted or dead. I would get a new card and save yourself the trouble, as class 4 cards are pretty old now.

The sd-ext in CWM actually isn't what you're thinking it is. In CWM, SD-EXT is referring to one specific folder on the external SD card, not the whole card, and if that file isn't there, it throws up that error.
If you can see your external card by putting it in an adapter and hooking it up to your computer, I'd suggest moving everything off the card and onto your computer, formatting the card (FAT32, I believe), and then putting it back into your phone.
See if that helps.
Hey man.
It did not work!
The ext-sd didn't apears, even, at the configuration menu.
When i connect the celphone to the computers, appears only theo original sd.
I'tryed a friends sd, but it don't read to.
I thinking that is a hardware issue.
What could i do?

I'm not sure how drastic you want to get, but if it's not reading any external microSD cards, you could back up everything on your phone, then flash back to stock and do a master clear. That might set right whatever is messing up. If that doesn't fix it, you might have a hardware issue on your hands.
Thanks for the help!
I'll try this as soon as i can, and post the results in here!

I think I have the same issue. Sometimes it randomly pops up saying "blank SD card" or "damaged SD card" message. And I have to reboot to get the card to work again. And it may fail randomly later. :/

What size/class sd cards are you guys trying to use?
8 GB class 4 San disk
-Sent from a Galaxy far far away
Kingston 16 gb class 4
My external_sd isn't working, neither randomly...

Do you have an adapter for the MicroSD that you could use to put it into your computer (outside of the phone) to test and make sure it's good?
I experienced the same erratic behavior with a new 16gig class 4 SanDisk. But, my 8gig class 4 SanDisk works perfectly. I'm running MIUI,btw. When I flash back to stock kf1, they both work perfectly.
Hey guys this is my last place to turn before I just go buy a new one but I want to see if anyone at all can help me.
I have a Sandisk 32 GB Class 4 Micro Sd. I bought it off a guy on the xda marketplace and it was in the factory packaging and took me a half hour to get out so I doubt it was fake unless people forge the packaging.
Well the other day I went to copy a file onto the card by mounting it to the computer. It copied just fine but when I unmounted the card and went onto the phone the file was no where to be found. This was off to me so I mounted the card again and it opened fine but there was no file. I then copied it again and it said it worked like it normally does. i unmounted then mounted right away and guess what the file didn't exist.
This is where it gets interesting.
I then mount the card again and select everything and delete it all. It says it works fine. I then disconnect the card then mount it again and guess what all the files are back. Like nothing happened. I then proceed to format in windows by right clicking and hitting format. It didnt do anything. I then go into recovery on the phone and try and format it. Nothing happens. I then connect the card directly to the computer with a micro to sd card adapter that is made by sandisk. It mounts to the computer fine. I then go into Easeus Partition Manager and click format. It finishes and comes up with an error saying There are some error occurred while writing partition chains on disk.
If anyone has any idea please help.
UPDATE: I have contacted Sandisk and they are going to send me a brand new card.

Is the card detected by the mobile?
If yes, try to format it in the mobile itself with the format option.
Also check how much space it shows , before & after formatting.
Try low level format

Could be a duff card but sometimes I have had this if the card has not been fully un mounted try waiting a couple more minutes before removing the card to give the system time to fully un mount it
Or it will not be written to.

Did you press eject USB every time you pull the cable? Not doing it can corrupt your card

dont mean to sound like a **** but you do realize I posted this over two years ago right?
but anyway the card was defective so sandisk sent me a new one.
Nooooo. This is the same issue I'm having! Ugh... mine is a 64 gb and we're about to go on a long trip. I wanted to add more music. And I can't afford to buy one from the local stores. They're too expensive! :'(
I bought mine from GeekBuying.
New to android been on IOS for years, but Apple really started slipping so i decided to switch over ... anyway after getting the samsung galaxy note 2 i got the note 10.1 tablet. on my tablet i have a 32gb SD card, which was working fine until the jelly bean update a few days ago. now the SD card wont mount. i tried using windows to format it. That didnt work either, it would only format to FAT, FAT32 didnt even show up and then it would only allow me to get 8.0mb from the 32 gb SD card. even when i got desperate (giggity) the 8mb format thing didnt work. I read around and people mentioned going through recovery mode via clockworks or whatever its called. Tried that and couldnt format the SD because the external disk wasnt mounted and it kept failing to mount ...
Any suggestions?
Try using a card reader on your pc/laptop and format it using MiniTool Partition Wizard.
I tried that... Didn't work, and thnx though
Any other suggestions?

What phone do you have?
Is it rooted? (you could reformat it thru recovery if it is)
Does the computer recognize it when you plug it in?

Please confirm that you had done an "eject" SD card from the MAC to unmount the SD card properly. This is the same as "Safe to Remove Hardware" for Windows. If not ejected (unmounted) properly, the next time you use it on another device, it may not be recognisable. If this is the case, simply insert the SD card back to the MAC and then eject it.
Otherwise, you can try re-initialise/re-formatting to FAT32 using software tools. Your phone recognises SD cards formatted in FAT32. If you format it with a MAC, it will not be in FAT32.
First, you can try formatting by using software for for SD cards, SDFormatter 4.0 - download from:
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4/
If that does not work, use a partition manager to re-partition and format to FAT32.
1. MiniTool Partition Wizard Home Edition - download from:
http://download.cnet.com/MiniTool-Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html
2. EaseUS Partition Master 9.2.2 - download from:
http://download.cnet.com/EaseUS-Partition-Master-Free-Edition/3000-2248_4-10863346.html
Hope this helps.

If you have a Mac, use the Disk Utility app (you can find it in the Applications/Utilities folder) for format the SD card.
After doing that you should be able to read and write the card on the phone, Mac or Windows without problems:
1. On your Mac, connect the card
2. Open Mac HD on your desktop
3. Open Applications
4. Open Utilities
5. Open Disk Utility
6. On the left you should see the hard drive listed. It should show the drive size with a second indented line beneath it that shows the volume of the drive.
7. Click "Erase" at the top of the screen.
8. Select MS DOS(FAT) File System for the volume format option.
9. Change the name of the drive if desired.
Click "Erase" at the bottom of the screen. You will get a warning and will need to click "Erase" again.
It doesn't show in disc utility. Cause its internal and won't mount

My SD card started playing up today, its only about 2 weeks old. Its a 64GB MicroSD used in my HTC one (M8).
I am trying to format it from exfat to fat32, or anything really, and Im getting no where. I've tried using Windows which just threw up errors. I've tried using both Disk and gParted which both report as successfully formatting but it doesn't actually work? On gparted I've tried a simple format, I've tried deleting the partitions and creating new ones but nothing is working.
After trying to delete whats on the SD card from the file manager, I'm getting this error thrown up 'Sorry, could not display all the contents of "9C33-6BBD": Transport endpoint is not connected'
.Any ideas anyone?
