So, my brand new Transformer came yesterday (From Amazon) and it has an SBK v2 bootloader (sbk detect under mac, serial is BC0KAS), here is what I understood, and ask for questions, after many reading, can you please confirm or correct?
1- SBK v1 can be rooted, put custom roms, return back to stock, unbrick in case something goes wrong with nvflash. [CONFIRMED]
2- SBK v2 can be rooted? (some say B70 can, or is it just B70 with SBK v1?) [CONFIRMED]
3- SBK v2 can have custom roms? (depends on point 2)? [CONFIRMED]
4- SBK v2 cannot have ClockWorkMod? [Wrong, SBKv2 CAN have ClockWorkMod]
5- SBK v2 does NOT support nvflash, so if you softbrick you cannot recover (I am certain of this one, I guess). [CONFIRMED, if you damage ROM & clockworkmod = BRICK]
What can be done then with an SBK v2 device? wait for developers to find the ways to crack it (as sbkv1), or have an nvflash working?
Is there some petition open to tell Asus to unblock the bootloader as they did with the Transformer Prime?
currently (after 1 day), I am already thinking of returning it back.
I know i might be asking a lot of questions, but information is not easily available in 1 thread.
Update:
New question: with SBKv2 is it possible to return back to stock (Stock ROM, unrooted with stock recovery)?
Thanks in advance...
SBK doesn't keep you from rooting from what I understand, the firmware version does (current 8.6.5.21 has been cracked and can be rooted by nachoroot, or if not can be firmware upgraded to 8.6.6.19 and rooted with razorclaw)
SBK2 simply keeps you from using NVFlash to recover, as far as I know, once you are rooted, you can install CWM recovery on any SBK version.
Just alot of SBK2 owners have not rooted or installed CWM if they did root for fear of losing their recovery (if you bungle the recovery, you may be able to flash your recovery through the ROM, if you mess up your ROM, you can flash another ROM through CWM or stock recovery, BUT if your recovery img is corrupted AND your ROM stops working, SBK1 can flash both via NVFlash, SBK2 is effectively bricked)
EDIT: SBK2 USED to keep you from being able to root when NVFlash was the only method available for rooting and installing superuser and busybox, see here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/archive/index.php/t-1347388.html
I was going to say I will try to NVFlash my device and tell you if it is SBK1 or 2, I assumed it would be SBK2 because it is B70, but lo and behold it was SBK1..I would have been lucky a few months ago before the razorclaw app was developed and SBK2 was rooted, but I didn't get my TF until after that..
So, SBK1 here have gone to stock many times, but cannot confirm the procedure for SBK2 tablets, though I assume it is possible. Thought for sure I was going to be able to come back and say my TF was SBK2 and had been to stock, but nope haha
EDIT: considering you can backup your entire setup via CWM, recovery mage and all, and flash it wthin CWM (like restoring the backup) is evidence to me that you can no doubt unroot an SBK2 as long as you have a working recovery image.
From what I understand, the first thing to do on a new device is to have root (with the tools you mentioned), once you have this (stock ROM with root), you can install CWM, and with CWM you can install custom and stock roms.
but how can I bring back the standard Stock recovery? when I have stock unrooted ROM I can't flash Recovery partition from the Android itself, and nvflash doesn't work on SBK2. can CWM be used to flash a stock recovery over itself?
Is there any chance that Asus will unlock the TF101 when it releases the tool to unlock the Transformer Prime (in February, as promissed)? in case they both use same blocking technology?

Yes you can flash stock recovery over cwm from within cwm, you have to have the file..i found it and have it on my hard drive, but can't remember where i got it from..the same procedure as going stock on sbk1 tablets
The proof that you can flash recovery while in recovery mode is that you can install higher versions or different developer's versions of recoveries from cwm. Im sure when running cwm it is being read from ram so flashing the recovery partition will only affect your recovery after you reboot (i.e. Can technically go into cwm, flash recovery partition first and then flash stock rom, but i believe packages are available to flash both at once, and there would be no reason to do it in this order, but im pretty sure it could be done)
Somewhere on here is a guide how to return to stock to prepare for the ics update, it should contain the odd bits and links to fill in my sparse knowledge.
Getting back to stock ROM and recovery
http://theunlockr.com/2011/11/28/how-to-unroot-and-remove-cwm-recovery-on-asus-transformer/
That's the one!
8329 recovery.zip.. Btw it should be noted that the recovery image is not region-branded, that should mean it will work with any region, while you will need to make sure to get the region-specific firmware..
And i did the procedure in reverse from that thread, not to confuse, but i:
Placed both files (recovery and firmware) into my sd card root
Booted into cwm and flashed stock recovery, wipe everything before powering down
Rebooted into recovery again and flashed the firmware with stock recovery.
I think it will work either way, i left my rooted rom in place so i could install cwm if the recovery flash failed, i suppose the alternative is leaving your recovery in place in case the stock rom flash fails..i just like knowing on the first reboot whether my first flash was successful and not flashing blind imo.

That thread is full of bad information and garbage. I would forget it exists.
I was under the impression from reading different Asus statements that the sbk for TF-101 was going to be released with ICS the way it was with TF-201, did Asus not keep their word on this?
Cheers!

That would be news to me. If you could find a source for this statement, I would be interested.
From what I understood reading (this forum and other sites), the story is different between TF101 and TF201: the Prime has the bootloader locked/encrypted, and with it locked you can't even install the CWM recovery, while with sbkv2 you can do everything except nvflash, so i doubt that asus will release anything for the sbkv2 transformers.
anyway, i am not following the subject, but does the new Prime unlocker allow something like nvflash to work?

Thinking about calling ASUS to ***** about this tablet being locked and demanding the opportunity to either downgrade to sbk1 or upgrade to a prime. I'll let y'all know my findings.

The revival of the thread from the dead! -dun dun dun-!
Anyway, yes 'Wheelie!' Nvflash for Sbkv2 devices has been released, and works very well on my b70 Sbkv2
it only works on the tf101 though, not the G or Slider.
I'm about to buy used Eee Pad Transformer TF101, with dock/keyboard. It has serial number starting with B90KAS and latest firmware update (ICS).
What is the current status of bootloader unlocking craft? Would I be able to install Ubuntu/OpenSUSE and/or use custom kernels with latest KatKiss ROMs?
I was on locked on stock OTA JB.
I unlocked a few days ago, then last night flashed TWRP. Created a nandroid, then rooted.
Today I've spent several hours downloading ROMs, doing Titanium backups, surfing forums, backing up my personal files etc. i.e. using my tablet normally without problems.
I decided it was time to flash a ROM so booted in TWRP to create a fresh nandroid. Then when it finished I rebooted the system with the plan to copy the nandroid to my pc.
The tablet booted, but then after 30s or so rebooted. It's now stuck in this boot loop. So I tried a cold boot, and then restoring the latest nandroid and the problem persists. I'm currently trying to restore the pre root nandroid I made.
To recap - I am on stock OTA JB, with TWRP v2.3.1.0 recovery. Any thoughts?
Ok just to update - the pre root nandroid seems to be stable at the moment. So... What to do?
Should I reflash the recovery? Try a different recovery?
Any ideas why the nandroid would be borked when the system seemed stable when I created it?

Question: Does TWRP actually root the TF300? Mine is unlocked but I am looking for the easiest way to root the device.
No it doesn't, it just replaces stock recovery and allows you to gain root.
You could start your own thread. Or, you could read the thread in Android Development that gives clear instructions for noobs to gain root and install TWRP or CWM.

After you install TWRP, you just need to flash a root zip file with TWRP to gain root..

Since this thread got immediately hijacked i'm not sure but I'm going to assume this part of your post was aimed at me...
I wasn't trying to flash a ROM at all. I hadn't even got that far. All I'd done was flash the recovery, root it and then create a nandroid. It was creating the nandroid that seemed to trigger the boot loop, even though that makes zero sense.

can you get back into fastboot connected to your PC?
I'd try to re-flash TWRP. Also make sure you are using the JB version, not the ICS version.
http://teamw.in/project/twrp2/97
I just unlocked and flashed TWRP on my tf300 (with the OTA JB update) this morning, and everything is working fine. I also flashed a root file without any issue.
I reflashed TWRP and re-rooted it seems to be OK.
Then I found I couldn't get any ROMs to work - they all froze at the boot screen. The solution to that problem lies in flashing the US update of JB rather that the WW. Now I'm running Hydro with Untermensch's kernel.
One thing I did notice with TWRP 2.3 is I get the error "can't mount /storage" in the log whenever I do anything. A bit of research suggests this might be an issue with TWRP 2.3, not present in 2.2. I wonder if that is what was causing the boot loop issue I had previously.
I can't seem to find a blob of 2.2 to downgrade to so I'm living with it for now and hope it's not going to cause problems down the line.

Good that TWRP always using the same names for a DL Link. So here is the 2.2 for JB Bootloader
If you are looking for ICS just edit the dl link .

I just got my TF700 the other day. I was able to downgrade to .30, root, and unlock the bootloader without incident. I just pushed CWM per this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=31556045&postcount=1. I tried booting into CWM, got the standard quick vibration but the tablet was dead after that. I messed around for a while and finally after holding the power button several times in a row, it booted as normal. Battery is at 80%
Before I go any further, what just happened? Can I push CWM again the same way to re-install it? How should I proceed?
FWIW, the checksum for download 1 on the page mentioned only matched the checksum for #2. I used #2 because it matched its MD5 as it was listed on the page.

The proper way to do this is to upgrade to the latest stock JB (10.4.4.25), unlock, and you can either fastboot the recovery or unlock it be flashing Superuser. It is not advised to downgrade, even if it seems easier, because if you do it the way I stated, everything will be latest and should not have any problems whatsoever. since you downgraded to ICS, you now have a ICS bootloader. an ICS bootloader will not boot JB, nor vice versa. so now you will need to flash a JB bootloader, which will not boot the stock ICS, so you will now need Cromi, Cyanogen,or another custom rom to get it update with JB. Make sure you have them preinstalled on a SDcard before doing any more flashing.
If I am wrong, hopefully someone will correct me.

The writeups I had seen prior unlocking said to downgrade to .30...so I did. I am still sitting on .30 and am planning on installing CM 10.1 which I have on both the TF700 internal and an external SD card. The only problem is what I mentioned above where my device wouldn't boot into CWM and subsequently locked up for about 15 min. Should I upgrade to JB .25 prior to booting into CWM and installing CM 10.1?

I CM10.1 requires the JB bootloader, If you install CM on the ICS it wont boot. I dont see why the recovery is the problem. I would try updating to JB bootloader, use the zips in Cromi's second post, and then try installing Cromi. Downgrading is only recommended if you want to stay on a locked bootloader. Otherwise, you should flash the root.then install recovery, or simply fastboot it.
In order to install CM you will need to update the bootloader, then once it is updated you will not be able to boot into the ICS rom, so you will have to already have CM10.1, also dont forget google apps, so it can be flash afterwards.
IF CM is installed with the ICS boot loader it will just not boot, it will go into recovery but that is it. I dont see any probability in bricking your device. But I am only a newb, so you may wanna wait for another's input.

Or you could install the 10.4.4.25 stock, then just fastboot a recovery. I mistakenly said root with zip, you cant without custom recovery so scratch that, the only way to install custom recovery via the method I gave is fastboot. Or the way you did so, but that requires more steps and upgrades. Also greater chance of bricking. This is because of the incompatibility of the rom, boot loader, and recovery. If you have latest recovery,I would install the bootloader, then flash CM10.1 + Gapps and should be good to go.

Just remember for future reference, keep things up to date,or at least compatible with one another or you will run into trouble later. The #1 reason for tf700's bricking software wise is people do not update their bootloader as they update their recovery. Just keep things recent and you should have not a problem.

ok so before i get my head bit off i will start by saying I have been trawling through the forums and searching around and am still drawing blanks and have just been getting more and more confused. so in the hopes of regaining my bearings I ask this,
I bought an asus tf700 tablet it came with 4.2.1 jb installed (the guy updated just before i picked it up OTA)
it was not rooted/unlocked AFAIK at any point.
now I would like to get paranoid android running on it. so my understanding of android (which is very little as i've only ever used an s3 i9305 which was easy to get rooted and ready)
i keep reading through different threads that to unlock the bootloader to get custom roms onto the device it cannot have the updated bootloader that jb 4.2.1 installs but then there are contradictions that state it can be by taking xyz steps then more contradictions stating you must go back to ICS root, preserve root then unlock bootloader and update to JB. but other posts claim doing that is incorrect
then more threads still state that jb can be rooted and unlocked just like any other revision would be but you cannot use the ASUS unlocker for some reasons i didnt quite understand 1 was about asus bricking you for it or tracking you?? and the other was it is not compatible with 4.2 JB only ICS (this is why i keep getting confused. one moment its yes then its no dont do cant be done)
further more it seems that the asus unlocker is the only way to unlock the bootloader on a tf700 but if you cant use it then how can you unlock your bootloader?
i have no idea what direction i am supposed to be going in so here is where i am at the moment
tf700 - stock 4.2.1 jellybean -
kernel version - 3.1.10-g03bdcb1
build number - JOP40D.WW_epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329
pad EC version - PAD-EC20T-0216
i am hoping to get it rooted+unlcoked to install
paranoid android v 3.15.
so do i need to downgrade to ICS and if so are there any specific steps required or is it a simple copy to SDcard or internal memory and run the stock recovery mode or download mode = install and done or do i need to modify any files or set any specific options?
or can i simply root and unlock it as it is and then flash TWRP or CWM and have SU + install the custom rom and be on my merry way?
sorry if this is considered super simple stuff but coming from the s3 which was a simple point and click with ODIN to get CWM then just copy ROM's to an SD and select flash ROM after clearing data/cache+dalvik this is a lot more complicated..
downgraded -
okay so upon even more searching i got the device to downgrade to 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
so from here i have gathered that i need to now "unlock" the bootLDR to be able to install custom roms
afaik cant be undone but will allow custom roms+custom recovery. so looking in to that now. will report back....basically to noone haha.

Nope, I'm here and listening - I'm in exactly the same boat. Seems if you have a totally stock JB tab, there's not much info/guides around about how to actually unlock the bootloader (from which everything else flows - NVFlash, custom recovery, bootloader, root, ROM)

well luckily i got my boat to land and it seems extremely complicated but it is in fact damn easy as hell to get it all working once you get it done right once.
what i done was
downgrade 4.2.1 JB to 4.0.3 ICS just by downloading the 9.4.5.30 firmware file
(using the stock recovery options. which was a pain in the ass because it took me about an hour and a half to get it to work with the file)
which can be found in this thread here
you need to extract the file within the first zip (its a zip within a zip)
you must then rename the zip you extracted to
EP201_768_SDUPDATE.ZIP and place it on the root of your SD card (i believe internal memory works also. but i used an old 1gb SD)
you then turn off the tablet. boot it up by holding power and volume down until you get the menu with 3 icons on screen. you press volume up to access the first option.
if it works it should install and downgrade to ICS all on its own.
in my case for over an hour i just kept getting errors and redownloaded the file many times even though the MD5 was fine. eventually it worked
so you will then be on 4.0.3 ICS which is right where you need to be.
from there you pick your route depending on what you want to do.
if you just want root you can use the automated root tool found in the beginning of this thread
and then there are steps to preserve root and update to stock JB ectect but i did not understand them at all and that was not the way i went
i unlocked the bootloader so i could install a custom ROM (parranoid android in this case)
so you unlock the bootloader by following this thread
but in doing so you lose any warranty you may have had and from what i was able to find it is irreversible. but once that is done you can use the automated root tool and you will be unlocked and rooted on ICS. from there you install GOOmanager from the play store and download TWRP for your TF700 by pressing the menu button (3 buttons in the top right) and select install OpenRecoveryScript
throw any custom rom you want to install on to your SD card
once that is done you can reboot into that recoery mode by swtich the tablet off.
holding volume down and power for boot. a white line of text will appear where you will get 5 seconds to press volume up to access TWRP
from there you need to wipe data a factory reset . then select advance wipe and wipe cache + dalvik cache options
then install the custom rom of your choice which you loaded on to your SD card. Flash and go
now it seems so damn easy im a little annoyed with myself.
hope this helps you out
I'm still locked but i will probably unlock and install alternative rom after my 1-year warranty is gone (end of july). I keep your thread in memory as it's exactly what i will need at that time. Thanks a lot man

Actually, I have seen a couple people successfully unlock on 4.2.1, but I suggest downgrading to 4.1.1 (10.4.4.25 version), unlocking, rooting, installing TWRP via GooManager, flashing the 4.2.1 boot loader, then installing whichever ROM you want.
PS, make sure the rom works on the 4.2.1 boot loader first. Cyanogen Mod, Cromi, and CromiX will work. I am not positive on other ROMS.

Unlocking has lag. Browsing = lag. Anything I do is very very noticeably slow. It's like trying to play a game at 5FPS and dropping.
Tried stock JB and ICS. now using paranoid android. Still extremely slow.
I hear that the force 2D rendering option may be to blame but that hasn't really effected much
It's painfully slow. The same rom on my i9305 runs at least 10x smoother. I know different devices and such but considering that afaik (isn't much about droids) the tf700 is supposed to be better performance wise nthough I could be wrong.
I just feel that this tablet cannot possibly be running as slow as it is. I will do more searching around to see if I can find a solution to the problem.

Backup all apps on your tablet, factory reset it, flash CromiX 4.3 Final. Then in the last few pages of CromiX flash the Play Store and browser patch. After CromiX is up and running, disable all locations services, unless you use them, go into dev settings and switch all animations to .5x. Next, go into apps and disable what you do not use, such as gmail, etc. This will help your tablet a lot. ParanoidAndroid is one of the slower ROMS for the TF700. CromiX ATM is the fastest right now, even though it is stock built. You must also remember this tablet has a small GPU for pushing full HD screen so gaming is expected to lag by all who have looked over kernals and such. Once a fully stable OC kernal releases, it may be a good idea to try it out. In quadrant with Cromix's default kernal I get about 6200 in quadrant.

Will give that a shot now. I wish I had known about the gpu+screen being a problem before I bought it. Oh well. Hopefully I'll learn more and more about it and things will improve. For now I'm a novice. Will download and flash that rom now.

Well truthfully it is hardly an issue on CROMIX but it can still be seen when doing heavy gaming. Also the cursor jumping is fixed with CROMIX as well this tablet is indeed one of a kind and since you are unlocked the gpu issue shouldn't be a problem.

Tisntrueni am now unlocked. But lag is very high. Downloading cromix now to give that a shot. The only game I've ran on it was conduit to test
What I meant with fps thing was an analogy. If you've had a game run st low low low fps that is what my entire tablets UI is running like. Let's give cromix a try and see if that helps improve things. If not it may be. Hardware fault with my unit (dear god I hope not)

I doubt it. Perform a factory reset before flashing, then flash CROMIX, then load it up and give it ten minutes to stabilize, restore apps, then perform a cold boot.

i ended up in a weird boot loop.
would install the rom get to the finish screen then the boot logo would come up, and hang there. left it for over 15 mins and still stayed there.
how do i get it to boot again ?
thought i had bricked it. but i just loaded the 4.0.3 ICS rom on to an SD and flashed that from recovery (TWRP) just waiting for it to finish installing/loading up.
i think it will be unrooted but remain unlocked now. will try installing a new copy of CromiX. odd though, i checked the md5's before using it and they matched perfectly.

You need to flash 10.4.4.25 and not go back to ice cream sandwich, it might be the reason for the boot loop because of the boot loader version.

You need to be on 10.4.4.25 which is jb 4.1.1. Then install twrp. One twrp is installed you must flash the twrp and 4.2.1 boot loader zip file. Once the zip file is flagged, boot back into stock 4.1.1. After you but back in, boot into recovery and install CROMIX. That should get you where you need to be but you should not be reading back to ice cream sandwich.

oh crap... it finished flashing ICS and its loaded up and working. pretty damn well i might add. it actually feels fast now. im almost tempted to just leave it as is. but i want to try out cromix now.
settings tab says this
android version - 4.0.3
kernel 2.6.39.4
not sure how i can check what my bootLdr is from where i am.
if i want to go to cromix from where i am can i just factory reset - TWRP wipe cache+dalvik and flash
or will that just cause more problems?

Since you installed the stock ROM twrp will no longer be installed so flash the10.4.4.25 ROM from Asus website and flash it. Then follow the procedure that I have given you.
Meaning that you root, install twrp from goomanager, boot into twrp, flash the twrp and 4.2.1 boot loader, boot back into 4.1.1, then boot back into recovery and flash CROMIX.

so get to 4.1.1 - flash TWRP onto it so i will be on 4.1.1 with TWRP.
from there boot into TWRP and flash the 4.2.1 bootldr file (is that in the index thread or else where?)
once that is done. reboot. then boot back into TWRP and flash CromiX.
have i got that right?
--edit--
is this the bootloader file you are referring to?

It is is the stock 4.2.1 thread is the dev section. It is a zip containing TWRP and the boot loader. It wont hurt to flash it. So yes.
1. Get 10.4.4.25 JB 4.1.1 stock ROM
2. Root using motochopper and install TWRP via GooManager
3. Boot into TWRP and flash the 4.2.1 boot loader and TWRP zip file. It wont hurt to flash it over your current TWRP.
4. Boot back into 4.1.1.
5. Boot into TWRP and flash CROMIX.
That is the process.

A while back I installed TWRP and Cromi version 3.4.1-10.4.4.25/US DEODEX. My tablet has gotten infuriatingly slow and I think its time to move onto a newer and better rom. I wanted to try out the 4.3 Cyanogen Rom, but the requirements are to be on the asus 4.2.2 bootloader. How can I go about updating the bootloader. Do I have to revert to stock first? What process should I follow? Thanks guys!

The safest method is to download the latest firmware from asus extract it and flash the .zip with trwp, from here it will overwrite twrp after you reboot so set up android 4.2 and then reboot go into fastboot and fastboot flash twrp 2.5 from there you can flash what ever 4.2 rom/kernel you desire

If you liked Cromi, you will love CROMi-X, the JB 4.2 based successor to Cromi roms.
Boot into TWRP and make a nandroid backup - just in case.
Backup your files, pics, videos to your PC or a SD card - just in case.
Go to the CROMi-X thread, download the 10.6.1.14.8 bootloader/TWRP 2.5 package, flash it and boot back into your old Cromi rom once.
Boot back into TWRP (which should be 2.5 at this point), choose 'Wipe', swipe to do a factory reset (highly recommended if you move from 4.1 to 4.2 since 4.2 file system is quite different from 4.1)
Flash CROMi-X 4.7 - enjoy!
You will probably find all your files, pictures etc on this clean installation anyway since a factory reset in TWRP leaves the data/media folder untouched, but backing them up is just good computing practice.

+1 this is the safest method, but once you have the latest Asus software installed use motochopper to root then use Goo Manager to install the latest twrp which is v2.6.0.0.

I do not see a reason to flash a stock rom. You loose your recovery, you loose root and have to start all over.
And I will stick with TWRP 2.5 for the time being. 2.6 has been OK for most users, but some had problems with it. And I don't take chances with my recovery - ever.

I was only helping the guy to upgrade to the new bootloader and at the same time as installing the latest Asus rom. Yes you will loose root and recovery but motochopper works so easy on a fresh install and recovery is really easy to install using Goo manager. I use this method every time an update is released and available to download from Asus support.
