Anyone know if this mod will work on the S3? It was written for 10.1 on EVO but wasn't sure if mods like this were/are ROM specific or phone specific.

Yes it isnt. The developer of cwm ported it to our phone with some help from this forums developers(im not sure i just know it has a few bugs)and it still has a few bugs. Flash a custom kernel for cwm. Try g3mod kernel

Hi thanks for the help. One thing thats confusing the situation is that people seem to reffer to my phone as the galaxy 3 or the i5801? I know it as i5801 Apollo, some people reffer to it as Galaxy i5800?
So is the Galaxy 3 the i5801 or the i5800 ?
Cheers.

They are the same with a few minor differences such as i5801 having the possibility of back light notification(BLN). Anythig workin on i5800 should work on i5801. I flashed froyo custom roms on my phone based on europena firnware and they work fine

Both are essentially the same, in India its called i5801, its known with various names in different countries, apollo being most used. You dont have to worry as all ROMs posted in the forum will work on any of i5801 or 5800.

Hey cool thanks for thehelp guys..
What is a good rom then I know nobody likes this question but I usually regard Cyanogen as the best for stripped down performance. Juat simple and it works, thats all I am looking for really..
Thanks..

Well, since CM is half working, it not for you! In my g3 I have CM, since I can live with the flaws, but kyrillos' and Lestat make the best roms here, apart from CM. Lestat is idle for a while, so I'd go for kyrillos'

all i can say i havent seen any real bad roms, just visit the threads in the dev section and compare them to what you want from it. ive used kyrillos for a long time but with recent updates i figured it was not what i want anymore (wich offcourse doesnt make it a bad rom). i went looking for something else i liked and the rom that caught my eye was kyorarom.
so basicly its a matter of taste. like i said try to compare them for your needs and flash the one you think suits you best. and if after using it a bit you want to try something else? just flash another one.
good luck and happy flashing
Thanks so much for the really helpful info!
I ended up deciding that the Apollo i5801 is not for me as the screen is just to small and low resolution. I am selling it if anyone is interested:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/290634314...ELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_959
Instead I have chosen to go for the Motorola Defy as its still pretty cheap and has a high res screen and good battery.
Thanks for all the help and I hope this thread helps people that are interested in the Apollo..

What would be involved in porting one of the Optimistic V (or other Optimistic One variants) really awesome ROMs to the LG Vortex (which is Verizion's version of the Optimums One) ?
My old Vortex is just sitting around and I wanna learn how to make ROMs. It can't be too hard to get a ROM working on it, the only difference is the radio, as far as I can tell, and that would be just replace some files, right?
So I'm hoping someone who knows a lil more than me can tell me what I need to change to make a ported ROM off someone's Optimistic One variant source.
ANYONE? not a hard question....
Not a hard question??? What do YOU think is involved. porting to a completely new phone AOSP or whatever is way harder than you think. You need to compile from source to get a fully working rom. I cannot do this but you should try first messing around. You don't even have CWM on the Vortex, so you should go and ask that first...

You can port different kinds of Rom to your phone which are cdma-based.
If you use your stock kernel roms should boot (can't say anything about data/wifi/gsm)
If you want to build your own, look here for a base.
And don't forget to backup your rom! It has different libs you may need to use!
You can find CWM for your phone here!
You'll also find a CM7 for your phone to play with
Good luck!

Actually, there is a custom recovery. And the hardware is identical to other optimus one variants, except for the radios. So there should be files that correspond to ththe radios that need to be replaced. Now I've never built a ROM before, just tinkered with one, but I don't expect it to be THAT hard to swap out a few files, maybe recompile the kernel.

There are several other CDMA Optimus One variants, I know they're available for sprint and virgin at least. If I keep the stock Verizon kernel how I change a sprint/virgin ROM to be compatible?
Its very easy, just go into the build.prop and change everything that calls for vm670 and change it to vs660 and do the same in the updater script. You'll be able to flash it and use it, but data, calling and sms wont work , you need to swap the telephony files from the same android version, I'm currently porting JB to the vortex

On Sgh i777, tried 3 non TW based ROMS and they doesn't work. But, adding a few cmds to the build.prop file, you will get full video and audio functionality (still can't find a way to mirror the whole UI)

I have sgh t989 running aocp. I am tired of orange and tried to install another theme from market and it won`t install and locks up the phone. I am relatively new to custom roms so need help with this. Am I missing something like possibly an installer or something. Thanks.
No what you're missing is that most of those theme's will not work with the custom layouts that the rom uses.
Wayne Tech Nexus
Thanks

Thanks. Kinda thought so.
Have a GT-N8013 (Galaxy Note 10.1). Am on Hyperdrive RLS7, 3.042_Zeus_Kernel_4.0. Apologies if this is the wrong area to post - please let me know if it should be elsewhere.
I'm constantly having memory issues with internal storage and would like to know of any ROM's that work with move-to-sd. I've got MoKee on my Epic 4G Touch and it works great. I like the Hyperdrive ROM a lot, especially the multi-window feature. But I really need to deal with the memory issue. Having a 64G SD doesn't do me a lot of good if everything insists on installing internally.
TIA for any help!
John
You could just use folder mount with any custom rom or rooted rom.
