Adding Google account without Gmail on Gingerbread? - General Questions and Answers

There is a problem that prevent me from using my Gingerbread device. In fact, when I try to add and Google Account on my 2.3.6 ME860, unlike in the 4.1.2 where you can simply enter the non-Gmail email address and sync with your Google Account, in Gingerbread, when I enter the same thing, they say that the user name (and not the email address) is not belong to any Gmail account ended with @gmail.X. So, I attempted to enter my username that is used in my Google Account with the non-Gmail email adress. Therefore, obviously, it doesn't work. So, what can I do? Do I really need to create a VIP gmail email account especially for this phone. More, the most weird thing is that in the past I used to use this phone with the same Google account that I use now with my 4.1.2 phone (the same that I try to login with right now) and I remembered that I can do it without any problem.:crying:

No, you don't have to create any new account. A single account can be synced and used up on multiple Androids at the same time.
Do you have any custom ROM installed? And please mention your device. A few screenshots of the App drawer and Settings would help a little here, for me to understand.

[Q] Superlite 5.1 - Can't search email

I have superlite 5.1 on my 727R and I have 2 accounts in the email app.
The problem is that on the bottom, there is no search option... which is a big problem for me. I've attached a screenshot to demo what I mean.
Anyone know of a fix for this? Is this in all ICS roms?
that's aosp email client. if u need exchange support as well ur out of luck. Its one or the other
What is exchange support? I just want to search my emails for a specific word.

if u don't know/don't need exchange support, download an app called k9mail from the market (Google play). It gives u essay more flexibility than stock email client, and it has a unified inbox as well as a search feature
If you click at the top and change from Combined View to say one of your accounts, does the search button come up at the bottom then?
Because Im using this AOSP email client and I have no issues but then again I dont have a combined view, I only have one accounts on it (my corporate exchange server).

Search it from individual inbox
you can't search it from combined mailbox view. click the individual mailbox and the search icon will appear

Don't think so, gmail doesn't seem to be very integrated into htc sense.
You can forgo the gmail app and add your gmail account as exchange account to the default email app.

I have my other devices set up this way, but never thought to try it with Android because...well it's google. Do you prefer it that way? I've had Android since the G1 was released and never tried anything but the Gmail app

I don't know if it's better or whatever, but I am using clean rom Dev edition and the AOSP email app so I can pinch to zoom I've read arguments that polling email this way uses less battery, but who knows. The only reason I remember the trick is because it was the only way to get push email from Gmail on my iPhone
I would also love gmail to be recognized as an email app.

Google Verification Code??

What is this, I've received a text and a call with a code and have no idea if it's for the Google Search thing or not??

On your google account, there's a second layer of security. Anytime you log into your account from a device or computer other than the one recognized by google, you'll have to enter this code which is sent to the phone number listed on your google account. You can disable this by logging into your account and going to security.
I had it on my account, but I've gone through several ROMs the past couple of days and got tired of having to go through the process everytime I flashed a new ROM.
However - this is assuming you are logging into your Google account when you get these texts/calls. If not, then it could be some spammy thing or perhaps someone else is trying to log into your account from another device/computer,

Could be a scam, sure. But even if you've only used it on your phone, Google will then send the code anytime [you or someone] tries to log in with a device ID not recognized by Google. When you first logged in on your phone, do you remember selecting an option for the second layer of security? Here's a link to info on it if you want to see what it is.
As you said, it may well be junk - but it won't hurt to keep an eye on your account just to be safe.

Recover google password

Hey buddies, I'm looking for some help
Basically I changed the pass of my main Google account one week ago being sure that my browser saved it like I always do but it didn't happen.
I forgot it (prob I'm missing some words) and I can't retrieve it because Google is a ***** one, I tried many times to recover it fullfilling all the camps but I can't complete the recovery mail one since the mail that i I linked with the acc is expired somehow
So I'm looking for a way to recover the pass directly from the phone since I'm still logged in there, I tried with sniffing packets within my wifi but I got nothing and with looking for some database but nothing again
Any ideas or software that can help me out?

There is no need to use software or any kind of "hack" to recover the password if your are signed into the device with that account, as you claim you are.
If you're signed into the phone with the same Google account, use the "forgot password" feature, it will send an email to your gmail account, then just open the gmail app on the device and then find the email they send to change the password. If you are signed into the device with that account then you have access to the gmail app and the email for that account so this method should be sufficient.

Hello mate, thanks for you reply.
Yes, I'm logged into my main phone with the account that I'm trying to recover. If I do the "forgot password" feature from the browser or from the phone directly it will ask me the same things like it already did. I can complete all steps apart the mail one since the recovery mail is expired (my bad that I didn't change it).
For that I'm looking for some software/tricky way.
Regards.
