[Q] Sleep/wake problem - Galaxy Tab 2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I know this problem was probably addressed somewhere in these forums but I just can't seem to find the answer.
I rooted my P3113 a while ago and found out that it will not wake from standby (the sleep of death I think it's called). At first it wasn't a big issue since I was using it around the house but now I'm using it at work and the constant turning it off and back on has become a real pain in the ass.
Is there some sort of work-around or solution other than reverting back to stock or is there another ROM I can flash that will resolve this issue?
BTW, This site is great. I've used it many times to flash various phones and to find answers. Ya'll keep up the good work. I know you've been a lifesaver to many.

Maybe your clocks are too low for when the screen/tablet are asleep? Get set CPU or something like that and up the min slider.

No, my clock speeds are at maximum. Started when I flashed a custom rom and rooted the tablet. I'm going to try going back to stock and see what happens.

Wifi Calling shuts off when screen times out

[Q] When the screen times out, my Wifi Calling shuts down until I wake it again. I'm running CM 107 with faux's kernel, and am pretty happy with it. I have wifi set to never shut off in advanced settings...is this something I'll just have to live with, or am I missing something?
Sent from my G2X with xda Premium.
EDIT: I found a workaround...sort of. If I disable data, wifi will stay active. Only downside that I can think of is that I won't be able to send/receive mms with wifi calling.
EDIT 2: Nevermind. Still does it.

how is it you know wifi calling is off when screen is off. I ask because I use wifi calling al well and have been through most all the roms and have never run into that as far as I know. Also, do you have juice defender or something similar, maybe set cpu has a profile set to lower cpu on screen off and that's causing it?? could be a couple different things. would be helpful to know what apps you have along those lines.

I've got nothing that would affect the wifi settings. The only thing I can think of is that, maybe, the faux kernel is preset to disconnect wifi at idle periods? If that's a possibility, would I have to dl a CPU governor to determine that?

I dont want to tell you anything I am not sure about. That may be a possibility. Now that I think about it I do remember seeing the icon pop back up after a few secs of screen on when I was on that rom. your best bet if you get no solid answer is to post it in the kernel thread and Faux himself may see it and Im sure he will answer you if he does see it. You could also PM faux but im sure he prob gets too many to check.

Sorry, didnt see this last night. I am running Weapon right now. I really like it. I have had 0 problems with it. The only thing I dont like about it is it wont support any custom kernels. So no OC. Also I cant get Netflix. Its worth having a stable rom though.
Weapon is the only rom that I can get it to stay on with. faux has a new kernel for weapon that has oc I think

To all following this thread: babyzay is correct. After flashing every ROM possible, I am certain that this issue is unique to CM7-based ROMS. I am sticking with Weapon and faux's latest, and everything is working great.

Nexus s is getting warm

Hello!
My nexus s i getting very warm sometimes, im on kang milestone (stock kernel) is this normal?
Sent from my Nexus S using xda premium
yes, we all get hot and battery drops faster when this happens.
i think its the cpu governor and clockspeed.
if you put alot of apps on its prossess then it wil work faster, faster = frition. friction=hot. hot= battery drain at a faster rate. dead batt= xda question theads more threads= cramped order. cramped order= more cliick and seeing more ads. all us seeing more ads= more money for xda. xda=thrives off newbies

It's likely to heat up your phone when playing 3D games, using GPS an the like. Depends on what you are doing with the phone. Also, if you use OC it might get hotter than usual. If you think it's heating beyond any limits, try going back to stock for a couple of days, then if it does the same thing, consider hardware issues.
Is the screen getting warm even with minimal use? I had similar issues with cm7 once when I forgot to do my wipes.
Same with mine mate, few minutes on 3g with full brightness and u can start frying eggs on display screen.
I've found out that it's not happening when my brightness is adjusted at about 50%.

I keep mine in auto-brightness, haven't had this problem.
That's strange, I'm running AOSP+ and Eugene's kernel, not overlocked or anything.
I found with some of these ROM using auto brightness just made it dim and go bright crazy. Either way. I found as bad as it sounds a fresh install the best thing. Titanium backup, sms restore, and then wipe everything clean. Solved all the hassles
Mine has gotten warm with heavy use since I got the phone.
If your running voodoo and have your gamma sliders boosted to hell and back, this also will make the phone run *quite* warm.

So many errors...

Hello im Andy from Austria
I got this phone now since 1 month and its my first
android phone. But i have to say that this is not the phone i expected... It all started when i got the first deep sleep on FIRST day. I thought it would go away after some time but it didnt stop. Then i read this things about flashing etc. I tried flashing many firmwares, custom ROMS and kernels... Nothing helped against the deep sleep. But this is not the only Bug the phone has. Sometimes when i want to call someone i cant hear anything. I have to call like 3-4 times to get it work (very annoying). Sometimes i cant do anything (freeze) , 3g doesnt work , cant boot without putting battery out and in again and even more things. No wonder why the phone got out of stores. Currently im on NeoRom 1.0 . But i read some posts where people got their phone dead randomly, and so i want to revert to default config like i got it from shop. The problem is my binary counter is currently on 4... Is there any method to get it to zero without paying? And another problem is maybe because i have removed simlock from it so i think warranty is gone anyway...
Maybe i try to completly reset the phone and then sell it to someome to get some other phone...
We also dont have any CM and i wonder about this because many unknown phones do have CM... Like Galaxy Y or etc...
It would be better to get some GS2 or GS3.
At least there are no deep sleep issues.
Greetings from Austria,
Birki

First of all:
Deep sleep is not an issue! It's a good thing, it's the state when your CPU rests and save your battery. The problem you mentioned is called "sleep of death" (when device becomes unresponsive after screen off)
You can reset your counter with USB-jig (if you have Odin protocol v. 2, if you have 2.1 it's a way more complicated))
It sounds stupid.....but did you change the WiFi sleep policy to never ?

[Q] Random Reboots

I've been dealing with random reboots now for a long time. With all this "stable" talk for JB roms I'm starting to wonder if it is just my phone.
I have ran many roms:
Slim Bean
All paranoid aspects of JB
CM10
sky JB
brickbeatz
Every single one the same. Multiple reboots or SOD's everyday at least 2 or 3. And if I'm using the phone extensively this amount could double maybe even triple. Is this normal? Is this something that other people are experiencing?
I have followed all install instructions including changing recoveries if requested by the install (big fan of TWRP but a lot of roms swear by sk8t's CWM)
I have odin'd back to uclf6 took the ota - formatted internal and external SD and is still happening no matter what rom I use.
When I was on ICS for a little I dig get a notification from time to time saying something to the extent of "battery disconnected" or "battery temp too high" and this is what made me start thinking that maybe this is a phone issue.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this? This is my second Skyrocket. First was replaced by warranty because it started just rebooting consistently (may have been a stuck button, but I didn't worry about it).
Any help you guys can give would be greatly appreciated. I do search, and I have tried pretty much everything I have found. Now I'm just frustrated looking for help.
Reboots are not normal with any of the roms you've tried. I've tried a number of roms and haven't experienced any reboots. Sounds like a hardware issue, but others may have different advice.

I've had 2 soft reboots since reinstalling Slim 3.1 (from stock ICS), but that's it. Some ROMs I've tried in the past seemed to have them more often than others, but I haven't been able to nail down exactly why that happens.
Most of them these days are fairly solid and shouldn't be rebooting, especially not as often as you are experiencing. Have you installed a custom kernel? Are you OC/UV? Do you have BBS installed to see if something is preventing deep sleep?

Two soft reboots are not bad, but the amount that I have had is way moer than that. I know that some roms are going to be different than others thats why I tried multiple to see.
I don't have better battery stats installed because battery loss isn't really my issue. I have decent battery life (other than the fact that the SOD's and reboots seem to kill 7-10 percent every time they happen. I also never oc/uv always leave stock..
Would BBS tell me what is causing the reboots?
Thanks for both of your inputs.
You had some high battery temp issues. Is your device still running hot? That would cause a reboot. Liquidzoo, you had hot battery issue, could this be similar to what you where experiencing?

The high battery temp issues came about right after I odin'd, but that was telling me these things in which I'm not sure that CM10 has a pop up for notification on these things.
It doesn't but how does the device feel? Does it feel hot. If it gets too hot the phone will shut itself down and reboot

Yes the device feels abnormally hot all the time
That's most likely why it's rebooting. Now all we have to do is figure out why it's hot. Liquid zoo had similar issues and I think he brought it all the way back to stock to remove some wake locks.
Liquidzoo , any thoughts?

My guess is the temperature is causing the reboots.
Install Better Battery Stats and look at the CPU States. It could very well be that something is preventing deep sleep, which in turn would cause heat and heat would cause shutdown.

I experienced the same thing with my SR. I called up AT&T customer care and told them that this was unacceptable. After a while they sent me a new SGS III. It is most commonly a HW issue, which is what I was experiencing. I explained that to them, and that is what lead them to send me the GS III

The problem is I work in the call center atmosphere and I just can't bring myself to call in and be an asshole. It is unacceptable and I definitely should call them to talk to them about it, but I doubt I will get as far as you. I will also post some BBS dump after it has time to gather some information.
Thank you again for all your feedback

Hesitation waking from sleep..

I've had my Note 10.1 for 3 days now and when I first got it I flashed a JB rom on it but I noticed that whenever I press the power button it takes a few seconds to wake up. It's not consistent. It's the only glitch/bug/etc. I've come across. Everything else seems perfect. Maybe it's because I'm using JB on an 8013 version or is this something normal that affects everyone?
Yeah, it is from the sleeping stuff, like booting your other computer, it takes different amounts of time from different types of standby types. If you want to get rid of this issue, youll more than likely lose more batrery life on standby
What is it that is causing it? The kernel?
Sent from my GT-N8013 using XDA Premium HD app
That would be one reason. You can change some of your settings with your cpu, maybe a build.prop tweak or init.d script coild make it wake up faster. It hasnt bothered me to the point of fixing it yet, but that is also becuase it would cause the battery to drain faster

I dont remember about ics, but it would probably be a different way of handling some things. Look into build.prop tweaks for sleep and see what you find

I use rom tool box, but there are a lot of other apps that will let you get into the build.prop and make the edits
Open it up from /system/build.prop
add this to the end with a text editor:
Code:
# sleep modes
pm.sleep_mode=2
#usage:
#pm.sleep_mode=0 -> collapse suspend
#pm.sleep_mode=1 -> collapse (will totally power off the cpu)
#pm.sleep_mode=2 -> sleep (cpu is still on, but put into low power mode (registers are still saved)
#pm.sleep_mode=3 -> slow Clock and Wait for Interrupt (lowered frequency and voltage)
#pm.sleep_mode=4 -> wait for interrupt (no change in cpu clock or voltage)
The # represents a comment line, so the build.prop is not reading it, it is just to know what is going on an stuff.
try having it set to 2 or 3
you will need to reboot after making the changes and maybe even wipe the cache
