Ok trying to cover my bases. I'm stock 2.20 and looking to root and flash roms. I've done this on the one x in the past but it was during the 1.73 and 1.85 era.
Now when I achieve root and get a custom recovery pushed.... Now every time I flash a rom I need to also pull the boot.img from the zip?
And when do I flash that? Prior to the rom flash or after?
Thanks

Yes. that needs to be done after flashing ROM. if you are flashing an updated version of same ROM and if there are no changes in kernel.. no need to do that..

According this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33179690
You need flash boot.img before flashing the rom
Sent from my HTC One XL using xda premium
before or after the rom.. it won't be an issue.!! just ensure you do that

ok im new to the one x also and have rooted and installed viper, im looking to install a jelly bean rom and make nandroids of everything so ill have some options. so say i want to switch to one of my nandroids, do i need to keep each boot.img from each rom and flash each time i nandroid or am i safe to just restore and reboot?
you need to still flash each boot.img from the roms you made nandroids of
I have gone from TrickDroid to stock Rom because the OTA update.
Unlocked my bootloader and tried to root my device like with the 4.0.3
, but I didn't succed.
The SuperSu app is nowhere
Can anyone make the root for(4.0.4) or I must go again to stock(4.0.3) to root my device and flash a rom?
Sent from my stock HTC One S c2
You have to unlock your bootloader and then flash TWRP with fastboot. Then you can flash the supersu bineries. Thatstge way I rooted mine.
Sent from my HTC One S using Trickdroid v3.0.0
I tried that.The same,nothing
I think that with 4.0.4,that's not possible..

1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash TWRP
3. By PC opened the bat. file from superboot r1.zip(bootloader mode)
No supersu
Correct me if I'm wrong in the steps

I have been having serious internet problems on my pc. I can never get ruu to finish downloading with out errors. I do have the ota zip file. I'm rooted, super cid and s-off. Is it safe to update that way or should I keep trying to get ruu to download?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Man! Why do want to ask such hard questions? I know you can install zip from sd but I could not say how safe it would be.
Sent from my HTC One X using xda premium
I was able to when I had S-OFF and the bootloader unlocked. I RUUed to 2.20, then I applied the OTA update from the stock recovery. My phone is still kicking. I tried to get everything back to stock after that, changed to stock CID, wrote the secure flag, and then locked my bootloader. I regret doing that now as I no longer have a root method on 3.18.
That's why I'm hesitant lol I guess ill keep trying for the ruu to download. Unless I can get a 100% positive answer... I tried to dl it with my phone and straight talk just throttled me at about 450 megs so I figured I'd stop before they killed my data connection again. They shut my data off last most for like a week and a half

I flashed the ota before the ruu was released, and I've been fine. You do have to have stock recovery in place, so you'll have to run the 2.20 ruu first. You can't flash the ota with a custom recovery.

Is stock recovery linked anyplace here? And can I fastboot flash it? Or do I have to ruu to get it back?

Ok found recovery buried deep in ota lol. So just flash via fastboot then install ota? I'm s-off so I won't have to relock?

No need to relock since you're S-OFF, you can flash OTA via Stock recovery. I'm not sure what will happen if you're flashing over a custom rom... I've only ever flashed an OTA over stock ROM myself.

Oh s**t I didn't even think about that... Good call. I may have had a disater and no choice but to post a oops I f'ed up my phone thread lol I just may hold off till I can get RUU downloaded correctly.
The ota and ruu I think are like 2-3 mb different in size (ota smaller I think) what could be missing? Adb folders maybe?
Sent from my HTC One X using xda app-developers app
Or... Would wiping everything including system in twrp then flashing stock recovery then flashing ota work?
Just off phone with HTC tech support, second teir I guess. The first guy transferred me. Told them I was rooted and all and s-off. Direct from them they told me the ota completly wipes the OS it just retains certain folders for contacts and personal info.

2.flash stock recovery.
3.relocked my bootloader.
4.downloaded the OTA (4.1.1)
And when the download finishd, I pressed the OK button to start the update. the phone turnoff and start the update via stock recovey and stuck in the middle.
I tried this 2 times, and it dident work.
Its complicait to do this, beacause every time you have to unlock and relock bootloader. What is the problem? Can somone tell me what is wrong?

i'm about to run the full ota. i'll pot my findings after.
*edit* No matter what I tried, it wouldn't let me update with the OTA.
I'm going to flash the firmware.zip instead. -_- Bah~
Update: I successfully flashed the entire firmware.zip and am now going to flash the ROM. I will attempt to update via the OTA by inserting my modified firmware.zip first.
If that doesn't work, I will just flash the ROM.zip. I'll update this post with whatever managed to work for me.
*edit*
I can confirm that touchscreen works in twrp using 2.15 hboot as I had to flash twrp to move the OTA zip file over to my sd card
*edit* modified firmware.zip within the OTA did not work. So I will just flash the rom. I do however have the firmware.zip flashed successfully so I expect things to run smoother. Only time will tell.
Thanks exad, I just updated the official way through ruumode and then flashed twrp and the boot.img(just to make sure it's a controlled experiment).
Everything still the same, working perfectly I will report if the signal drops or random reboot happens.
And now off to bed.

Is it 4.2.2 only? Will it work with imagio 3.7?

so far, according to my usage in the past few hours, there is no harm in keeping the kernel included in the firmware.zip
Anyone who wants to flash the firmware.zip, I have linked instructions and and the zip file in this thread:

Hboot 2.15 at&t ?
I notice a few of you have AT&T phones, but I'm having great difficulty finding any info on the 2.15 HBOOT.
I am currently on my HTC ONE XL with HBOOT 2.14 using AT&T (United States obviously). Running Magio 4.0.0 and about to update to 4.0.1
So does this HBOOT 2.15 exist for this phone and if so can someone kindly link me to it??
Whether the phone is at&t or not doesn't matter, the at&t One X is the same phone as the HTC One XL, it's just branded differently. Look in the Android Development section of our forum, you'll find links plus instructions to the firmware in Turge's stock ROM thread in the OP.
