Extracting Default Wallpapers from Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-N8000 (10.1 JB 4.1.2) - Android General

Hello All
I just though of sharing my experience with you all.
To tell you the truth, I am just a new-born baby in the world of Android and have purchased my very first Android-based device, i.e. Samsung Galaxy Tab GT-N8000, just a week ago.
I have been trying too hard to extract the default wallpapers from my new tab just to look at the details of the images so I can create my own wallpapers (custom images to fit right into the screen in both landscape and portrait layout).
I searched a lot about how to extract just to find that the other posts were related to other versions of Android, there was no post for the exact model that I have. Probably people have now lost their interests in changing the wallpapers or customizing them.
However, with the help of some older posts and after putting some of my brains in the device and Android, I somehow managed to extract the wallpapers. Being very new to Android (just a week old lol), it is really a great achievement for me to enter into the root and extract something out of it
Really excited!!
I am writing this post for others like me who are looking ways to get the default wallpapers out from the system to modify or do whatever they want to do.
Here's what I did.
I rooted my tab. (Was really scared of doing so in the beginning as I am very new and was afraid of damaging my expensive gadget just after a week of its purchase).
I downloaded and installed AntTek Explorer. (A notification popped up recommending this app when I tried to open a file in the device root).
I started AntTek Explorer and in the center pane (don't know what it is called), I tapped on the 'Device' option at the top.
A menu appeared and I tapped on 'Device Root'. (Don't know why but the folder didn't change automatically so I tapped the 'Device Root' icon in the left most window to see the contents of 'Device Root' folder in the center pane).
Then I tapped on 'system' folder from the center pane, and then tapped on 'app' folder.
Here I located 'SecWallpaperChooser.apk', and touched and held the icon for a second or two.
A menu appeared and I tapped 'Extract'.
On the next menu that appeared, I tapped on the 'Education' folder that I had already created to extract the files.
Then I tapped 'OK' to extract the contents.
I opened the 'Education' folder by going to 'My Files' and found that a folder named 'SecWallpaperChooser' was automatically created.
I opened that folder and opened 'res' folder.
In the 'res' folder, I then opened 'drawable-sw800dp-mdpi' folder and found all the default wallpapers there.
Aah!! But I still don't know how to place my own images in the 'SecWallpaperChooser.apk' file in the Device Root>system>app folder so that my custom pics are also displayed along with the default ones when I try to set the wallpaper and choose 'Wallpapers' option from the options list.
Can anyone help me out with this? Or if you have any suggestions from where should I start looking?
Thanks for reading

today screen theme

hi guys, i know this is child's play for most of you but i've got a problem in not being able to change the today theme on my prophet-clicking on start, settings, today-i am given a drop box with the several variations provided by orange plus the extra ones i've put in myself-but they ywon't load up-any of them and they never have. i have looked in the windows folder on the phone and found all necessary tsk files etc-is this a problem with my rom? do i need to change it?
please help!!
thanks for your time.
slinkey
Probably you find it on My documents folder under .tsk (device) but also you can change it:
Start
Settings
Today
And on this screen, choose the theme for your device, or why not, a picture as the background.
If you have an extra .tsk, put it on my documents folder and then make the same spets I mentioned like: start, settings....
Thanks for the advice but I can find these optionis (going from start, settings, today) and i have a list of various themes--supplied by Orange but when i click on them they don't change. i CAN change the today screen photo-but not the theme. Any ideas??
thanks for your time.

From the last page you where on you need to select the items tab and then deselect "Orange" it should then go to your selected theme

Folder Icons

I've tried finding a thread/reply to this item via search but couldn't. Any help is appreciated:
Looking to get just the Folder icons that appear in ROMeOS program menu and move them to another ROM of my choosing. I'll attach a screenshot of what I'm talking about.
For instance if I create a folder called "Multimedia" in the Start Menu, it will default to a standard plain folder. How can I a) download these icons from my device and b) install them to a different ROM?
Thanks!
Anyone have any idea?
If I remember correctly, if you go to \Windows\Start Menu\(desired folder) there should be a picture file/icon file of it.
Solution for changing Folder Icons on the Start Menu!
Yes Sir - you are correct. In each folder, there is a hidden file called icon.lnk Here are directions on changing your folder icons:
In your windows directory, place your icon library. In my example, I'll call that Icons.dll
Each of your hidden folder icon.lnk files should refer to the icon that you want within the Icons.dll file. There's a program out there called GConvert 5 that will allow you to open icon DLL files and view the icons in them (you can also import your own custom made icons and do a few other things as well with this program). I believe you can test out the program for 2wks before you have to buy it
The Icons within your DLL file are in a specific order, so in the icon.lnk file you need to refer to the icon you want with a number.
The syntax is: "1#Icons.dll,-2"
This is telling the program to refer to the Icons.dll file and look for the 2nd icon in it. Modifying the icon.lnk files can be done in notepad on your desktop and when you do this, you don't need the quotation marks that i typed above.
As a side note, if there is a group of folder icons that you want from a particular rom, you'll have to do a search for all DLL files in the windows directory and try to locate the one with the Icons in it. On the Elite ROM for instance it's called IcoRes.dll, AT&T created an Icon DLL for their bloatware called FolderIcon_PPC.dll and so on...
Anyway, hope that helps anyone looking to do that.
Another option is to spend a few bucks and buy sk shortcut manager. This app will let you easily change icons in seconds. Make yourself a dll and keep it on storage card. Then every time you change roms you can copy the dll to the device and use sk shortcut manager to swap the icons real quick.

I have made new folders using activesync in my windows/start/programs folder. The new folders are programs, apps web, etc.
Using the phones file manager, I have cut and pasted the appropriate icons in the start menu to their respective new folders that I created. Ex: I put opera and IE in the web folder, camera, video recorder in the mutimedia folder and so on. After I did the cut and paste, when I look at the windows/start/programs folder with either activesync or the phones own file manager, the icons that I cut and pasted are in their new folders, and not in the windows/start/programs folder. But, when I open the start icon on the phone, the icons I cut and pasted to the new folders still are visible, along with the same respective icon that I cut to the folders.
I did all this to unclutter the start screen. I have installed the touch X remove reappearing icon cab and have validated the registry change to 0. But, the supposed cut icons are still there, cluttering up the start page. Any ideas on how to get rid of this things forever??!!
Any solutions......anybody?
"Fun & Info" can be removed somehow?

Click to collapse
Try to restart your device. If it doesn't help, delete those icons from star menu entirely (or move them somewhere else), restart your device (then there should be non of these icons anywhere in start menu) and then move them anywhere you want. It worked for me when i encountered this problem, so it's at least worth the try.. Good luck
not working, please help
i installed the cab and tried deleting icons on both the file explorer and on the windows mobile center on my pc. It is not working. The files are no longer there but the icons are, except now they are grey files, not the icons as before. Please somebody walk me through this step by step.

I've also been told there isn't a way to get the original icons off the start menu that tmobile had on the phone when i got it, such as bn eReader, blockbuster, etc. I need help.

[Q] How to reset Rom's wallpaper

I have tried a couple of roms recently. Both times my wallpaper changer app has replaced the rom's wallpaper. I have searched and not seen an easy way to get the original back. I really don't want to have to reinstall if not necessary. Any help?
I can offer you two approaches:
1. Long press on home screen and choose Wallpapers > Wallpapers and click Reset to Default
2. Using Root Explorer (or similar), navigate to /system/framework and "View" the framework-res.apk - navigate to framework-res.apk/res/drawable-hdpi and find the file called default_wallpaper.png - copy and paste it to your sdcard to use as you'd like...
EDIT: Maybe i'm not understanding you properly - does your wallpaper changer app (btw, what does that app do besides change wallpapers?) possibly swap out the default_wallpaper.png file mentioned above? If so, you can just browse to the same file location in the full ROM file you originally downloaded, using 7zip (or the like), and grab the original wallpaper that way..
Found file with explorer. Must not have looked in right dir. Wallpaper changer will change wallpaper at assigned intervals; hours, minutes etc. It pulls images from designated folder. I . bored with same wallpaper day after day. Its nice to wake up each day and see what my wallpaper of the day is. Thanks for the help.

Question Theme, I need help

I have downloaded the theme like the photo. Can someone show me how to get nine apps into such a compact folder? I looked in the utility but couldn't find it. Thanks everyone
Press and hold the app. Drag it over the one you want to have in the folder. Folder will be created. Name it if you want. Then drag other apps in newly created folder.
