I'm running the 4.2.2 PAC ROM (Paranoid + AOKP + CyanogenMod), the only listed issue is a minor screen error when using the Pi feature, however I've noticed that my cellular signal is frequently dropping, and when I do have reception, it only lasts for about 5 seconds. Bell is my service provider so I know it's definitely not poor signal that is causing this. I was also running a previous custom rom by AOKP and everything was working perfectly fine so I know that I don't have any hardware problems. I really enjoy all the features of this custom rom but it's destroying my phone, even though it's updated nightly, I am not sure how much progress is made per update. The rate of battery drain is ridiculously high, about 1% every 2 minutes. It could just be that i'm being impatient considering the ROM is fairly new. Anyone else dealing with these issues? Has anyone found a solution? I don't know if it's the rom or if I'm doing something wrong, any sort of guide or analysis and response would be greatly appreciated!
Make sure you're using ucmc1 radio.

Hi all,
Having updated two over to the new baseband (June 2011 to March 2012) and sticking with stock on one while using cm7 on the other, my experience has been as follows:
* battery life is the same. Cm7 much better than stock but then it's cm7. I went from Weapon to stock 2.3.4 and did not see a noticeable difference.
* GPS fix is a function of well written GPS.conf. I see a slight improvement in lock from cold start but nothing outside of normal variance.
So what was the purpose of the new baseband? To me it is now appearing to be just a date change in a field . (Obviously there are differences otherwise call audio would work without any changes).
Thoughts? Note that I had to subtract wishful thinking to reach my conclusions.

Huge signal strength boost on my end. My dorm I used to get no signal. Now I get two to three.
Sent from my paranoid Nexus 7.
At least for me, the GPS was massively improved. GPS fix is not purely a function of well written GPS.conf.
On stock 21e/2.3.3 - my GPS barely worked. It was intermittently better on cm7.x - but it was still a POS.. rather .. GPOS (global piece of.. )
On stock 21y/2.3.4 - my gps was massively better, but over all it was like a whole new phone.
On 21y baseband + CM7.2 it works really well, and WIPER/A-GPS works as long as I have data connection.

There are also supposed to be battery life improvements - but this only affected Stock Rom, CM7 was not noticeably affected.
Furthermore, I find that the newer SIM.. TM9177 works .. whereas with 21e.. only the TM9073 SIM worked..
I have also found that my HSPA+ connections are slower - but more reliable.. e.g. now I get a solid 5 mbps down, between 1 and 2 mbps up - with 21e - I occasionally has 10 mbps down - but it was very inconsistent - it would connect/drop all the time - and not necessarily a function of signal strength (e.g. standing in one place the signal would vary a lot) . 21y just plain works better.
One other change - I used to be able to use Faux123 kernels on CM7, but now I can only use Stock CM7 or Trinity - the Faux123 drain battery among other problems. No idea.. it isn't a bad flash, but my phone went from tolerating Faux123 to absolutely refusing to use his kernels.
That being said, it is widely reported (without citations!) that there was poor quality control on the LG manufacturing of G2x.. so the phones apparently vary quite a bit as to what does/doesn't work. I would say my phone never ran 'right' on 21e.. but it feels 'right' on 21y.
I wish I could use the new baseband, I get less disconnects with it.
However I can't live without bluetooth calling, and cm 7.2 for some ??!?!?!? reason still has not fixed the bluetooth bug.
Has anyone noticed that their battery life is significantly better on LTE vs EVDO after switching to a JB ROM and/or baseband? I'm not sure which caused the impact as I switched both at the same time. It does stand to reason as LTE would be in use for less time than the same usage on EVDO, based on the speeds. I did not however see this behavior in ICS. Am I the only one? I admittedly have no numbers to back this up as usage habits do very, but I work where there is solid LTE coverage and live where there is only EVDO, and despite using my device more at work, my batt lasts longer there.
I realize this would seem much better to ask in a ROM thread (I for one am running CleanRom 4.5) but since I've spent my ~20 months on XDA reading the vast knowledge already out there and searching, instead of posting, I can't post in dev forums
BH
I have noticed this as well. It seems JB overall is much better in battery though, I IMO.

Has anybody else experienced less than decent cell phone signal since upgrading to any CM10.1 derivatives? What's very strange, is that sometimes I'll have full bars, but still shows yellow on 'Mobile network signal' in the battery section (see screenshot). I haven't noticed any poor call quality, or too many periods when the data connection was actually lost.
I feel like this is impacting my battery life.. but maybe it's just a cosmetic issue?
I normally get great signal using the stock RUXLF3 radio.
- I've tried UCLK4, UXUMA7, UCLL3 ... each was no better.
I've seen this on a few ROMs also: AOKP, Sons of Android, and now I'm on PACman.
Any input would be appreciated.
I forgot to mention I'm on Rogers. I727R
It seems to actually only be LTE which is having issues.
I did some more testing today, and when LTE is disabled - the Battery screen shows green across the board!
Yes. I had same observation. I am back to 4.1

OK so I've had this problem with ever ROM except original touchwiz ROMs. My 3g and 4g will random stop working and it reconnects maybe after a reboot or just whenever. This is quit frustrating and in tired of using my internet when something else wants me to.
If you know whats wrong and the solution that would be awesome if you don't. Then please don't respond.

Too general. If you want help you need to be specific. What is your current ROM? What is your baseband version? Saying "every ROM" tells us nothing.

Okay so I all the basebands k3 k4 and uxm whatever. I wipe everything.I use cwm. And im telling every rom but the ones thqt are stock. As in miui cm 10 aokp asop pac man everything pretty much. Only oone that works is touch wiz roms. Like embryo
I think i have a similar problem. I was getting all sorts of weird reboots on stock so decided to try CM10 stable. Love everything about it but having issues with the signal. Have tried 4 or 5 different basebands - currently using i727UCLL3. when i have signal its great, but i have spotty reception at work. Once the phone looses the signal, about half the time it doesn't pick a signal back up unless i put it in airplane mode, then usually it refreshes and is ok for a while. however sometimes, even when it looks like i have signal, i have no internet connectivity and have to reboot the phone to get everything working again - this happens every 2-3 days usually on average. I'm in the philly area so based on the name of the original guy posting maybe its a more local issue but who knows. any help appreciated. thanks!
hey my name is philly lol. but i do live in VA so maybe its a region thing idk. still no fix. only thing that works which isnt worth it half the time, is embryo its CONSTANT 4g no problem. but for me that battery life is awfull.

I think he was referring to the battery life issue. Battery life is extremely subjective and based on each user's habits and settings. Other Embryo users are able to get less "awful" battery life, hence "User error."
No one has the formula for best battery life because everyone's usage varies. There are all sorts of guides, tips and tricks on here to help extend your battery life. Mitigating wakelocks should always be the first place you look to extend your battery.

So I installed Lineage OS (LOS) on my Poco F1 and I was pretty happy with it. I noticed a little higher battery drain at first so I started to investigate since this made very little sense to me after getting rid of all the Xiaomi bloatware. But my cell reception seemed to be worse than under MIUI and sometimes when I pick up my phone it shows no reption at all but then recovers quickly and starts to show some bars. So I started to look further into that direction. I installed Better Battery Stats (BBS) which gives you a nice overview of the signal strength and how long the phone has been in each state. Sadly I had no screenshots from before when I still had MIUI but after seeing I had no reception for over 4h today I had to do something so I went back and installed MIUI again to have actual numbers.
Lineage OS (build 2018.11.27) cell signal strength collected over 10 days:
No/Unknown: ~1%
Poor: 22%
Moderate: 28%
Good: 46%
Great: ~3%
For reference, my phone is lying on my desk at day and next to my bed at night, besides that it gets moved very little. I live on the 5th floor in the inner city of Berlin, Germany and I am in close proximity (~500m) to at least 5 cell towers so my cell coverage is excellent.
I opened this thread here because the discussion in the Lineage OS thread moves too fast and no developers nor the OP was answering or even acknowledging this could be a problem. I myself have no idea why or how this would even be possible or make sense. And please understand I am not here to point fingers all I want is to understand it so it maybe can get fixed. Only a handful of people were complaining about this (some about mobile internet/LTE reception) so this might not be a widespread issue or people may not recognize it as one. A rumor I heard was that MIUI might be misrepresenting the actual reception status but without anything to back that up (and I am not sure if that would affect the BBS stats). More to this further down...
MIUI (beta 8.12.13) cell signal strength collected over only ~4 days:
No/Unknown: 0%
Poor: 0%
Moderate: 0%
Good: 3%
Great: 93%
[UNACCOUNTED 4%]
The difference from the first day alone was quite interesting but I stopped testing MIUI after only 4 days. The readings consistently showed time unaccounted for (you can see this in the screenshot for MIUI which is somehow missing 7%, 83+10=93%), which kinda ruins the idea for making these statistics in the first place. I have no idea what caused this to happen, might be an issue with the beta I was using (8.12.13) but can't say for sure.
Furthermore after seeing the numbers I feel like there might be something to the rumor of MIUI misrepresenting the stats. Since BBS was mostly reporting "great reception" which should be 4 (or full) bars if I am correct, but I mostly saw 3 bars on my status bar indicator and rarely 4. Readings under crDroid seem to confirm this and are more consistent with what is going on in the status bar indicator.
crDroid was recommended because of its cell reception (compared to other custom roms), it is based off of Lineage OS and thus hopefully easy to troubleshoot if it indeed has better reception. It had a recent update which specifically pointed out "- improved signal strength stability"
crDroid (build 2018.12.19) after 6 days of testing:
No/Unknown: 0%
Poor: 0%
Moderate: 0%
Good: 80%
Great: 20%
Pixel Experience (build 2018.24.12) after one week of testing:
No/Unknown: 0%
Poor: 0%
Moderate: 0%
Good: 97,5%
Great: 2,5%

This was pointed out as possible solution and from what i've seen that would make sense. But I can not confirm if it is the definite solution until I've tested a rom after they implemented the fix and so far I am falling on deaf ears (or at least got no response when bringing it up) with the issue and this fix.
user @PieR confirmed this and provided this link for further insight into the problem: https://forum.xda-developers.com/re...t/dev-fix-signal-issues-fluctuations-t3811950
More details about the topic are emerging and apparently the root of lineage already has something in place for it:
$ideWinder said:
Actually that's not the way to implement the fix. I contacted another developer at Lineage and he told me that the above method isn't the right way. The correct method is like the one implemented here. https://github.com/LineageOS/androi...s/apps/CarrierConfig/res/xml/vendor.xml#L1395

but either the poco f1 lineage fork hasnt yet, or it is not working!?
Edit: More ROMs added with very short testing (10min):
Syberia OS
Nitrogen OS
Lineage OS (build 2019.01.10)
Reloaded CAF
Let me chip in with my stats. Basically when using MIUI it was 100% always just like OP.

maybe in miui the app doesn't have full access to signal stats and just report 100%.... even in Berlin or even living under the CELL SIGNAL TOWER u can't have 100% at all times.... I'll understand if MIUI was better 5 to 10% than custom ROM but at 100% all times seems fishy
also custom rom and miui use the same baseband so why would it be any different!!!!?

Well i live in china next to alibaba HQ where 4 elevators in my building have their own small devices which gives me full signal(before los). Its not flexing just a fact that i live in a community which values fast internet and connectivity more than anything.
I would think the app would report 0 because as far as i read the app uses the bat information the firmware generates itself. App is just reading that information to give you nice little graphs.
I agree with this problem. I live in a hostel and for the first two months I used poco I had MIUI. After that I switched to LOS I kept getting signal drops and reduced speeds. My friends who use the same provider are getting better speeds and we literally are in the same room. I switched back to MIUI today. Just came back home, gotta go back in a week. Will update if it's actually LOS causing the network problems
so after writing all of this yesterday and seeing the numbers i came up with a possible explanation: roaming. roaming could be the one thing that explains all of this. maybe the los isnt doing it enough, maybe it isnt doing it at all (which would explain the time with "no signal" too) maybe there are just hickups when switching between carriers?! i dont know... maybe it is just the way miui enforces roaming over using your own carrier?
updated miui stats from today below (and added to the op), results are pretty much the same throughout the night.
I haven't been able to get LTE since I switched from MIUI to LOS. I'm in US and traveling to Europe in a few days. I want to see if there's any difference. It's such an internal debate since WiFi is so prevalent. I love LOS, do I really need LTE? I think the answer is yes. I might be switching back to MIUI soon.
Yeah, I can confirm the network reception is poor in custom ROMs. It's not true that miui is faking network reception. I tested both custom (almost all) and stock ROM at my office, and where I get full signal bars on stock miui, the network fluctuates a lot on custom ROMs (sometimes it goes down to 0 due to which I miss calls as well).
so i noticed something strange going on with the signal stats under miui, i have ~7% that are unaccounted for... not sure if this is just a hickups or how this could've happen in the first place?! i will reset the stats and keep an eye out for this sort of thing going forward.
edit: i went through all my bbs screenshot from los and in all of them the numbers add up to ~100%, so no such errors there in over ten days of monitoring.

"no data connection" is seperate under bbs and is usually at 100% for me which makes sense since i am on wifi 99% of the time.

Hi guys I live in Australia out in the bush, I stumbled across this thread and couldn't help but share my experiences with custom ROMs. I'm currently running CrDroid coming from Syberia rom. are you using this crdroid? i'd like to give it a try since i am running into issues monitoring the cell status on miui. and i understand crdroid is largely based on lineage os, so it should be easy to find out what they've done differently for the signal to be better compared to los (just guessing).
