Whats the best car vent holder for vertical vents?- Nexus 4 overheating - Nexus 4 Accessories

So i have signed up for Googles new music service "All Access". I love it, however, I have noticed one thing about it. It puts one hell of a strain on my Nexus 4s modem when streaming in high quality.
I found out that if I run a GPS app such as ingress or Waze while streaming hi quality audio from All Access that eventually my phone will get so hot that my internet connection pretty much stops working all together. I like to run Waze every morning for my commute because the police alerts are sweet and i also like to stream music.
I have tried every software tweak i can think of to help with this issue including underclocking, unvolting, underclock GPU, screen brightness ECT....but it doesn't prevent it. My only idea left if to have the phone held by a vent mounted clip and expose the area around the camera (where it is very very hot) to the flow of cool air while i drive. Hopefully the phones back doesn't get that hot if the phone is exposed to the air from the start.
Does anyone have experience with a vent clip that works well with vertical vents?

I have horizontal vents but I was able to use this mount I got on ebay.
http://www.ebay.com/itm/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380541142201&ssPageName=ADME:X:AAQ:US:1123
The vent clip is rotatable so it can be use on either horizontal or vertical vents. It technically didn't fit my N4 but after some bic lighter manipulations my phone fits pretty snug with it's Ringke Fusion case. I heated up the 2 corner clips and used a pair of pliers to bend out the hooks at the ends. I also stretched out the center holding clip so it would fit my phone better. The whole thing is not super locked into place since it can still wiggle but I am sure that is isn't going to fall off since the hooking mechanism is pretty well done.

You can use a binder clip car dock.

Just had this happen to me today. I'm streaming all access while charging and my phone got so hot that it stopped charging. My fix is the mount that goes in the CD tray. I just aim one of my vents toward the phone and it can't possibly overheat.

I just shove it into one of the vents and crank up the ac Lol two mins its cool Lol. Short term solution
Sent from my blazing fast nexus 4 o yeah baby this phone is awesome

You can also block the vent in behind the holder. That's what I did. By totally fluke the dark grey plastic that DVD movie cases are made of match the color of my dash.
So I cut up an old DVD cass the right size and stuck it in between the vent grills and the vent housing. Then made holes for the arms of the phone holder.
Here's a pic.

Way of shielding Desire from sun in car??

When using as a satnav, I find the Desire getting VERY hot in the summer weather we've been having, with the sun coming straight thru the window onto the device. I have had the battery app telling me it's overheating which isn't the case on cooler days or at night.
Anyone got any 'bright' ideas about how to shield the unit but still keeping the gps signal when sitting in the suction-mounted cradle?
this might sound stupid, but i think it will work. get some some thick black card. and make a boxed surrounding for the desire, then the card should adsorb the sun
I wouldn't bother making anything out of anything black considering it's the best colour for absorbing/re-emitting heat. Unless you want to bake your Desire.
I would suggest a box made of out Aluminium foil though that could interfere with signal. Your best bet might be a white box around your phone to try and reflect some of the heat/energy.
I suspect black on the inside of the box and white on the outside would be best. Maybe even a little fan too!
Glue up the box that desire comes inside on the dashboard, lol
Get one of those cocktail umbrella things and glue it to the side of your phone holder. Position it to block the sun, you might need 2 to stop it from both angles!
I just run my AC through the windscreen vent position so it blows cool air over my desire while it's running. I had the GPS running for 4 hours continually in the car without any battery or heating issues and the desire still felt only slightly warm.

Clingo Vent Mount - pics/first impression

alright, so i bought the clingo vent mount from london drugs today (19.99), pretty easy install. the thing sticks like crazy, if i put it full on back-to-back then i need to be very careful taking it off or else it will pull the battery cover a bit. my fix is to put it only on the right side of the phone, ie only using 3/4 of the sticky pad. this way it also leaves the speaker vent open. if you already have a case on the phone then i can see it working out even better.
overall the build quality is decent for plastic, the ball bearing feels solid and is enclosed by a metal ring so it wont get loose easy. the pad itself has a crazy grip, i dont think any amount of shock or potholes can dislodge the phone.
best part of this mount is that it doesnt require any fittings, as long as it still sticks i can see myself using it with a few other devices including GS3 when it comes out. and yes, it can be rotated horizontally for navigation use.

How to increase tension or lock down car mount?

I have the HTC car kit for my Sensation and love it except for one thing: When driving over rougher roads or when taking hard right turns the mount moves, so instead of the phone staying nice and level it droops. My car's on an pretty firm aftermarket suspension so I wouldn't be surprised if not many other people have this issue... Is there any way to tighten or flat-out lock the mount's arm? There doesn't appear to be any visible tension screw I can tighten, and because the arm is chromed no adhesive I can think of really sticks to it. (at least super glue and silicone adhesives haven't ) Any ideas?

Got a picture?
Of the mount itself? It's this one: http://www.google.com/products/cata...a=X&ei=qDK1T7SzFMqeiQKdr7H1AQ&ved=0CHsQ8wIwAQ
The part I want to be able to tighten or lock down the the ball and socket you can see at the base... If this gets much more annoying I might end up grinding away the chrome from the ball portion and using something like JB Weld to secure it to the base.
It looks like the base should be able to come apart to tighten the tension on the socket for the lower ball.
Is there an external adjustment for this?
I checked and couldn't find any adjustment anywhere. If I pull away the suction cup it looks like the metal base is pressed in so I can't even get to the ball joint. Since the ball joint is limited to roughly 180* of rotation, I just rotated the entire mount so it's already at it's limit for the counter-clockwise rotation and therefore can't sag in that direction anymore. That leaves the power cable sticking out of the bottom instead of neatly out of the way at the top, but I ordered a micro-USB cable with a 90* end that should minimize that too...

[Review] Infuse Case / Holster (Model: SSC21SB = “Platinum Series”)

I bought this Case/Holster (Platinum Brand) when I got my Infuse phone in December 2011.
I think it’s very handy.
LINKS/PRICES:
When I bought it from Best Buy in December 2011, it was $35
I noticed this Platinum case for Infuse was STILL on the shelves at our local Best Buy a few days ago, suprising for a phone this "old"... that's what got me thinking about writing a review.
The Best Buy price is still $35, both in-store and on-line.
You can find it a LOT cheaper on Amazon and ebay now, an even better value:

VIDEO
Here is a video for the same brand Holster (Platinum) except for different phone (HTC Thunderbolt). What's shown in the video is practically identical to the one for the Samsung Infuse, except for location of the cutouts in the back case, which of course have to match the features of the phone: i.e. openings for camera, usb port, headphones, volume buttons, power buttons, and in the case of Thunderbolt for a kickstand that we don’t have.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHOs8iNEMJM
PHOTOS:
Each of those links above shows pictures of how the case/holster looks when assembled, with phone inside.
I have attached photo’s below of how the case/holster looks when disassembled.
CONSTRUCTION:
The case is two parts (top/bottom) and slides onto the back/outside of your phone. The case stays on the phone regardless of whether phone is in holster or not.
The holster (when phone is inserted) sits on the screen side your phone.
The holster has two clips:
The clip on top of the holster clips the top of the phone into the holster.
The clip on the back of the holster clips the holster to your pants/belt.
ADVANTAGES:
* When you’re walking around with phone clipped to your belt, the back-side / case side is face out... screen completely protected.
* The headphone jack is accessible when the phone is holstered, so you can listen to music on earbuds with phone in holster clipped to your side.
* It’s also handy for talking on phone while walking (not in a busy area of course). Use earbuds set with mic on the cord about 6" from earbuds (earbud/mic set available around $15... I don’t think the originally supplied earbud set had a mic), make the phone call (requires phone removed from holster for dialing), then put the phone into your holster and keep talking away. ** DETOUR: - By the way, when I tried to use an earbud set with mic on stock Froyo, it didn't use the external mic at all (it continued to use the mic on top of the phone which doesn't work if the phone is not close). Later, now that I've upgraded to GB with custom Rom, the external mic on the earbud cord now works great (I'm not sure whether it was the GB or the custom ROMs with voodoo that fixed it...does anyone know?). I also use that earbud/mic set when I'm on a long conference phone call in the office... it gives hands free talking so I can operate my PC keyboard at the same time that I'm talking on the phone without getting a crick in my neck (from holding a standard phone between my ear and my shoulder... the only other way to keep hands free). And of course I'm only using the PC for items directly related to the phonecall... I would never dream of checking my email or surfing over to sites like xda during one of our typical exciting business conference calls where I get to talk for about two minutes and listen for about 58 minutes The earbud mic works great in my non-blue-tooth car too... much better than trying to use the phone built-in mic which probably isn't going to be anywhere close to your face when you're driving. END-OF-DETOUR.
* If you want to throw your phone into a briefcase, leave it in the holster and unclip it from your pants.... the holster provides great protection for your screen if it gets bumped against something in your briefcase.
* Both clips (phone to holster and holster belt clip) are sturdy and well designed. Removing holster clip from belt or removing phone from holster are both very easy things to do (1-2 seconds). You can see how easy to get the phone into and out of the holster in the last 20 seconds of the video linked above.
**If I didn't have the holster, the biggest thing for me is that the phone seems a little too big to fit in my pockets comfortably:
Back pants pockets - I worry about sitting on it.
Front pants pockets - I worry about what happens as I sit down and stand up. And I have to stand up to put it into my pocket or remove it from there.
Shirt pocket - I worry about it falling out when I lean over.
And if my phone is not in my pockets then I would be holding onto it or shuffling it to various other temporary places... just more likely to lose it or have some other absent-minded accident imo. It’s more convenient imo to just put the phone into my hip holster and not worry about it until I take it out of the holster when I want to use it. Then when I'm done using it, it goes right back into the holster on my hip (except at home... different story)
WEAKNESSES
* While the upper half of case is very securely gripped onto phone by friction, the lower half of case is much smaller than the upper half and so has much less friction grip to the phone. To make matters worse, the attachment between lower and upper half of case is not great. The result of these two factors is that if you tug on the lower half of the case you can get it to separate from the phone and upper case half. Therefore it is risky to put your phone into your holster upside down because if you then try to lift it out by grabbing the natural location near the top of the holster (which is now lower half of the case), that lower half case may become separated and you might drop the phone. So I make sure to always put the phone into the holster right-side up. Interestingly, the HTC Thunderbolt case shown in the video has upper and lower case halves almost equal size so they probably don't have as much problem (better friction grip for bottom)...I'm not sure what prompted the smaller lower case half size for Infuse but I think it was a bad design choice
* Speaking of absent-minded accidents.... I did manage to drop my phone from at least waist height when I removed the phone from the holster while I was literally trotting down the steps of a cement stairwell (had a lot of things on my mind, was in a big hurry, trying to save time by making a phone call on the run, perfect time to be careless).. When I examined the scene after the drop, there were cracks eminating from the lower left hand corner or the screen. I also found the bottom half of the case was separated from the top half and from the phone. I don't know whether the bottom half of the case came off as I was pulling it out of the holster, or whether it came of after it hit the cement. I'm not positive exactly what happened, but there are two possible scenarios:
Scenario A - Maybe I had my phone in upside down at the time... if that's true then that is probably the reason I dropped it and possibly the reason that the case didn't protect the screen (because the bottom case would have been separated from the phone before the bottom left corner hit the ground in this scenario).
Scenario B - Maybe the bottom case came off only as a result of the impact from the phone hitting the ground. If that's true, then the case was still not enough to prevent screen damage even though case was intact when it hit the ground in this scenario. The case is not particularly beefy and one with thicker corner guards may have done better in this scenario.
Scenario A is probably the more likely explanation for my experience, but I'm not positive.
I don't consider tendency for the bottom case half to separate as a major problem, ONCE YOU'RE AWARE OF IT. I could probably fix it with a piece of tape holding top/bottom case halves together better, but that's messy. Now that I am aware of it and conscious of the proper orientation, I don't feel the need to do that. Before I dropped the phone I was not particularly tuned in to the significance of putting the phone into the holster right-side up or upside down.
OVERALL:
I Have been using it for 9 months and I'm very happy with it. It is highly recommended as far as I’m concerned, especially at those lower prices. Just remember to put the phone into the holster right-side up.

Yup, I sure do.
(see summary labeled "OVERALL")
Had this case. It broke on me in less than 3 months. The spring in the clip where it holds the phone broke. Too much clipping and unclipping? Idk. Maybe I just had a bad one.

Wireless Charging CAR MOUNT(s) -

I have one of the Nokia Wireless Charging car mounts. Had been using it without issues on the S4- Using the S5, became interesting . The position of the charging puck was way off internally. So I decided to mod it ever so slightly. Grabbed a heat gun and melted the the NFC nub down so it was flat allowing the device to move freely in the charging adapter. All worked fine. No issues. Now the NOTE 4, works fine still but it is ugly. The melted nub looks 'off' and I want it to have a cleaner look.
SO- Whats available out there? What Wireless Charging Car Docks are out there? The Nokia one is bomber, I like it. Mine is just hurting in appearance due to the heat gun modification.
I also use the Nokia Vertical desktop Wireless charging stand. It too had to be modified It was simpler though. No heat gun, simply open it up from the bottom, 4 screws, then pull the base off slowly. another 2 screws for the charging port. Unsnap the vertical part. and you can see the wireless charging coil is centered in there. Held into place with double sided tape, there is a .5" or so piece of plastic on the top part of the coil. Remove it by cutting and pull the coil farther up in the vertical area. Secure it,
( i used hot glue) , and put it all back together. I moved mine up about half an inch or little more. Now, the s4, s5, and Note 4 all charge on it also without issue.
If anyone is interested in any of the MODS on those I have already, I can post up a step by step in picture form.
In the mean time, lets get some info up on other WIRELESS CAR CHARGERS/ CRADLES!!!
i use the choetech t510 from amazon & the itian from ebay.
the choetech needs its bottom prongs cut and then it fits perfectly.
The itian needs the bottom extended and the side needs to be wedged out a little before it fits.
Both work fine with modifications as noted.
i used scotch outdoor double sided tape from home depot (the red one with double sided peel off) and it sticks fine vertically to the dashboard.

I have a custom rear view mirror relocation bracket with a RAM Ball on it. Type B/ 1" Ball. - With the Nokia mount, you can disassemble the mount all the way down to the BALL - Using a Ram Mount Extension arm, I connect the mount to the rearview ball mount. Solves the suction cup, adhesive, mount issues. Plus I stay in compliance with state laws. Nothing hanging on the windshield or rearview mirror statute.
Most of the mounts can be broken down far enough to access the BALL or be modified to accept a ball.
I like mine in a position where it is in my line of site, or slightly off to one side. Set the screen brightness dimmer or lighter depending on the condition.
Occasionally I will set the phone on my steering wheel column, jack the brightness up all the way, and use it as a heads up display. The light bounces off the windshield and works awesome. Occasional movies on long trips to keep me up, maps, hangouts with voice over.
I have the iotti wireless car dock. It works great with the OEM back. The only thing I don't like about it is prying the arms apart to remove the phone.
The Nokia version opens wide enough to accommodate the note, s5,and s4.
