I was wondering now that djrbliss has released the vulnerability for AT&T SGS4 do we have to wait for devs to do something with it? For Loki tools it seems as if you have to have a recovery already made. Will a current one work?
https://github.com/djrbliss/loki
this seems more like a user made htc dev, not what true s-off "bootloader unlocked" would be. non the less it should work fine. this probably wont touch the write enabled protection on the device. the only issues i see is until we are truly unlocked we will always have that "samsung custom" on out bootscreens.

He released his source code and such so we need to have someone compile it into a .bat or .exe so we can flash a custom recovery/rom
its linux only, and devs need to use/make teh loki_patch.
someone could make a windows/android app to interface with loki_flash for end users though...

Everyone - if you don't know what to do with those files without asking, don't try it yourself. There's already one in process in the development thread, and there will be cleaner and simpler ones out within just a few hours, I'm sure - with complete instructions.

luckily the loki_flash utility that is used to actually put the patched img onto the device works on android so it doenst matter what kind of computer you have

Exactly, I have one phone booting to recovery now, no issues. YET! better know what you are doing, or you will have a serious paperweight.
I re-booted out of successful, so will see.
Update: nand backup was successful. Good start for us, just need the perm fix, but for now, it rocks, it was so nice to see the recovery screen. SWEET

Yes, everyone needs to keep the OTA .apk's frozen from now on. Or use a custom rom that doesn't have them.

This root method works wonders nothing is more better then to learn to manually root your device. Of course you can use the tool provided in the, the development forums, but I personally enjoy learning to do things without the use of developed tools.

Use the manual method by Indirect if you want to have more control over what you're doing (also does not void your warranty) and definitely read read read
I would recommend at least going through the whole "user" section of xda-university before even touching your phone, it has tons of useful information

Definitely, also just FYI but when you do a factory restore that simply wipes all app data (both user and system apps)

Na i was using you shift rootility tutorial, but i screwed up and put the wrong PG06IMG.zip in the $path. there was 2 versions a 12.7MB and a 227MB one. i didn't realize that i needed to do the 227MB to downgrade first then after it's downgraded then use the 12.7MB one.
so i stopped mid way through and tried to boot normally, which sent me into a boot loop. doing a factory restore fixed the boot-loop and now i am starting over again.
BTW CNexus you have some dead links in your Tut.

It doesn't matter, you can do it anytime after you have rooted (make sure you flash it in bootloader and not through recovery though)
So it seems I've really put myself into a bad spot, here.
I recently rooted my phone (Verizon S3) using towelroot, which seemed to work exceedingly well, so I decided to try to make a NANDroid backup using ClockworkMod. I installed ROM Manager, set that up, and chose the "restart in Clockwork recovery mode option", which didn't work. I soon realized I forgot to unlock my bootloader so, at the recommendation of a few sites, used EZ-Unlock to try to do that. The app reported that it was successful, so I tried restarting my phone in Clockwork recovery mode again. To my utter horror, my phone did not turn on, and has not turned on since.
When I say that it doesn't turn on, I mean that it gives me no audio, vibrational, or visual feedback, almost like there's no battery in the phone. I've pulled the battery and also attempted to do the fix outlined in a video, but to no avail. (I would post the link if the forum allowed me to. The title of the video is "Unbrick hard bricked Verizon Galaxy S3 running 4.3 Jelly Bean")
Feel free to scold me all you like for my irresponsibility and stupidity, it's probably deserved. Any help will be hugely appreciated, though! Thank you so much!
Edit: I guess I should mention that this is my first time doing this sort of thing to an Android device. However, I do like to think I "know my way around", as they say. (although I guess not enough to avoid messing things up!)

Forget CWM, it doesn't even support encryption for KK.
Anybody know how long it has taken the devs of TWRP to update to the new encryption for previous versions? Just curious about when this will work again.

Is it just me or are these responses the least productive thing on the internet?
I would understand if I came in here demanding an exact ETA, but I feel like I respectfully asked for estimated past turn around times so that I could have a basic idea (2 weeks/2 months/2 years) of when I'll be able to use TWRP on my phone again.
And I understand that the devs are probably working very hard on getting this done (I see that there is version 2.8.2 for the Nexus 9 that allows decryption on Lollipop, so maybe they're really close), and although I am an entry level programmer, this kind of stuff goes way over my head, I do really appreciate the work that they do.
I am fairly new to the wonderful world of this level of Android customization and I'm just trying to learn how the process works.
Does anybody else have any useful info?

As mentioned, we don't know anything. We haven't had any feedback. You have access to the same info we do (TWRP dev thread and github). There is no point asking us the answer. You'd be more upset if no one answered at all.

Without knowing the complexities of encryption and the development involved and the fact that past development turn around has nothing to do with the future, we can give only the same answer.
I'd say you can only ask the dev, but since that's against the rules, you'll just have to wait and find out when everyone else does. You have the same information available as we have, including past turn around dates.

I have a HTV One SV C525c. Android version 4.2.2. HTC Sense version 5.0. I've tried everything I can find to get this thing rooted. I've done the HTCDev and got the bootloader unlocked. I've flashed and tried both CWM and TWRP. I see both unlocked and tampered when I try to boot into recovery. I've followed all the steps on all the tutorials but when I get to the point that I'm supposed to boot into recovery from the HBOOT menu, it just boots normally. I even get the screen with "entering recovery" but it doesn't open recovery. It just reboots with nothing changed. I've even tried moonshine and rumrunner to change it to S-OFF but that hasn't worked either. I'm completely at a loss, as I've tried every every app and tutorial out there with no success. Any advice here would be greatly appreciated. This is driving me insane! Please help?!

What about Android 4.4 KitKat? I gather from the thread that HTC kinda screwed up and never actually released it. Are there any other custom roms or software updates out there that I should look into or am I already as good as I'm gonna get with 4.2.2?
Also, what about the 2.77 GB taking up the Other in my App storage? Anything I can do about that? I've already deleted a bunch of bloatware but it barely made a dent in freeing up space.
Because of the storage, check the forum about One SV swapper.

Ah. I'm going to have to pay better attention to what apps I'm deleting in the future. My MP3 files wouldn't play any more either. Luckily for me, I did actually do something right and made a backup right after getting root access and S-Off. I restored the backup and everything is working again. I'll have to download a bunch of apps and make a bunch of changes again that I'd already done but this time I'll research more into what apps are safe to delete and which ones aren't. Or, in gamer terms, I hit the reset button LOL. I guess we can call this my test run. That backup system is brilliant because it saves your ass if you go and screw with something you shouldn't.
I really should have learned all of this years ago but now I know better. I won't even buy another phone in the future without consulting here first. You've been a tremendous help.

It sounds like Verizon is up to their old tricks and preventing rollback by incrementing the bootloader again. Sadly you are stuck with no way to root if you can not flash back. All you can do is try submitting your info to the pingpong root thread and hope they can root it.

Not sure why you upgraded??
There is no root for the VZW version of the phone for that or newer versions now.
Pingpong will NEVER work again since its method of exploit was patched.
Most likey, another root method will come up but most likey will trip KNOX.
This is why they have been saying, DON'T UPGRADE OR TAKE A NEW OTA, but some people don't read or follow instructions. It is and has been on the pingpong root first post for some time.

Plus when the new version is rootable by a custom ROM you still won't be able to downgrade. That leaves the high possibility to loose root when something goes wrong and you have to Odin back to stock. Hopefully 5.1.x will be able to roll back, if not I won't upgrade.

Not sure why I upgraded either. Didn't research the consequences. It was an impulsive decision. I'm pissed I can't root my damn phone, can't even flash one of my backups.
I skim when I read the threads, and then my terrible memory gets me in situations like this.
Ugh, I need an App dev to make a new rooting app.
Just read the ping pong root thread... I'm a dumbass. :/

This upgrade s!#t is exactly that, [email protected]#t!! Don't upgrade. If they're not letting us downgrade with this upgrade, they're surely not going to let us downgrade with 5.1.x.
I'm still pissed. My battery is draining because of all the bloat that I can't manipulate if I were rooted. It's bugging the heck out of me not having full control of my phone.
Of course the upgrade wasn't good and why rooted users are not taking it.
You put you in the position you are in now. All the warnings were already there.

I'm the only one to blame, I'm already aware. Thanks! And I truly mean that.
Rule #1 is never ever take an OTA, just wait. I don't mean to throw salt on the wounds or anything but hopefully you'll save others from making the same mistake and I'm sure you won't make it again.
There's a lot of smart people working on this phone so don't give up hope just yet, you might catch a break. Heck, maybe a sock puppet will leak an unlocked bootloader like what happened with the S3. You never know.

Thanks, appreciate it. I guess this comes along with being a tester. I've got faith in the other developers who are working on it. I guess I'll just have to be patient.
Stay tuned...
Almost makes me want to cry.
Dont worry

Same thing happened to me, I stayed up all night trying to find a quick root, I dont care about messing with KNOX I just want my custom ROM back! But noooo there just isnt much variety I guess. Now I have to suffer because Verizon is lame.

I feel somewhat relieved that I'm not alone on this. I've literally been screwing with my phone, Odin, and whatnot for hours trying to find a way of having somewhat control over this phone... obviously, to no avail. Tired of 'permission DENIED/Failed' prompts.
Same Here

Yea, Hopefully a fix soon, I looked around for boot unlockers as well, and did not find any. Man it wa easy with a nexus, they make it hard with Samsung!

It's not so much Samsung's fault, it's our damn carrier, Verizon that's making phone manipulating harder. I've had the S2, two S3's, and an S4, and I've never had issues with unlocking, rooting, abusing them until I switched to Verizon and got the S6. These damn OTA's are unnecessary.
Your so true
It's not even that, but the lack of control and uselessness of the updates frustrate me, and probably alot of other people. Verizon needs to step it up. I actually work for Verizon. And let me tell you. They are sneaky. So many people come in about bills being overpriced or something. It's awful. Anyways. I have great faith in out moddkng community and their will be a fix soon!
Hi everyone! I just rooted...super excited now! A few questions....
1. How do I disable update prompt?
2. Can I delete bloatware by using Root Explorer app or should I move them to data first then uninstall?
3. I am looking through different threads and it looks like we still can't flash much due to locked bootloader, correct? I am still on 1AOC3 haha afraid to touch anything
Thank you in advance! Loving S6!!!

Kinda curious... why did you post this to a thread about a problem "System Update won't let me downgrade or root." do you have that problem or are you just posting where ever feels good.
There are a lot of existing threads which cover what you are asking about.
Absolutely.... I posted because:
1. I searched and couldn't find a relevant thread on what I needed ...
2. I am 7 months pregnant and just love posting around random threads because it feels good.
Gee, thank you for being nice....
