No, the black dot next to the camera isn't a led but a light sensor I think?

That is an LED on the back... I just tested it. And I've used it as a torch before....
If you don't have an LED then you probably have the galaxy tab 10.1...

I don't think we're talking about the same thing here, from what I've understand the LED he's talking about is the led that tells you if you have a new message or call in different colors. You usually find this the displays on phones.

But then again, this is a tablet, not a phone...
The 1st generation Galaxy tab didn't have a notification LED and my Acer A501 tablet doesn't have a notification LED either... It looks like they are for phones only...

On the other hand, there are other messages one could send from the tablet (emails, Facebook and what not) and the 3G versions usually can send sms.
Sent from my GT-I9305 using xda app-developers app
True but considering the tab is meant more as a work machine and leisure machine, much like a laptop, these are considered operations that the user would be working with at the time... SMS and calls are really secondary functions, look at every other tablet that can make and receive calls, I can't think of many outside the Samsungs....
Your laptop doesn't have a notification led on it for emails does it?

I mean I can se why but on the other hand I can't se why not since that LED obviously isn't at all expensive. And after all it has a vibrator, when do you need that in your applications?
But I was not trying to argue why it should have one really, I was just saying that the LED the poster was talking about probably wasn't the flash on the back but what he thought is a LED on the front.

That's what they mean.
Notification light within the speaker
Is this what you're referring to?
It only shows up if i have the charger plugged in. Orange when charging and green when charge complete.
Shouldn't this be where your alerts are shown too? I have them set up via this menu:Settings > Display < Notification flash , however i never see any light come on when i have new messages.
Won't work, fascinate had an amoled screen which o believe can turn on individual pixels. The tbolt has an lcd screen which uses a backlight which only lights up the whole screen

He's referring to the backlighting on the soft keys, not the actual touch screen.
This would be great if it's possible. The notification LED is horrible on the TB.
Backlight support, if I remember correctly, has to be built into the kernel... I've only used it with Nero rom on the Samsung Vibrant, never on an HTC device. If you don't like the notification lights on the Thunderbolt, you can download NOLED app from the market... It works well on phones I've tried that have no notification lights like the Nexus S...

Hmmm... never heard of that app. Will check it out. Thanks man!

I use an app called "Flashlight Alert" from the market or can be found on the XDA forum.it uses the LED to alert you of email, text, google voice and calls. It's free and doesn't require any additional addons.off that does catch your attention then nothing will. I even used it on my Xoom.
try "missed message flasher" it flashes the backlight whenever you get a new message. it can repeat until you check it or you can set time limits. tons of options and works for all notifications.
If you're rooted there is an app called light flow that works very well. Makes the led notifiers actually serve a purpose.
On the new stock 2.3.4 that was just released, there are 2 features I miss greatly.. one is the dimming of the led lights.. and the other is using them as a notification. Has anyone found an app that works? I did find 1 notification app but from what I read, it sucks the battery down cuz it flashes.. can't do a steady light.
Thanks !
Did you try LG Touch LED Notification? It has steady light option.

There's a link in the thread I started about the application for notification toggles in this sub-forum. As to your question about the text things. Your phone lights up while you're texting? That's kind of normal don't you think. The screen coming on when the text comes in is a stock messaging thing. Nothing that can be done except installing a custom messaging application, as far as I know, I like that it lights up.

ha, not while i'm texting... duh, the screen would need to be on for that, haha. When I receive a text, the screen turns on. The other day I was txting with a friend then I got into the middle of something and she sent another 5txts.. and the screen kept turning on. Pretty wasteful on the battery..

why? that would kill battery like crazy, not to mention it would heat up the led bulb to the touch.
Try light flow on the market. They have a lite version but you may have to be rooted. I don't have time to try it right now but should work. As for heating the led that's not even a concern.

Oh what I'd do for a multi-color LED like the original nexus
+1 for light flow. Go sms also lets you set the notification light. The HOX displays green orange and red.

Was your phone around any type of moisture? Or did it get wet somehow? I've read in some of the water damage threads that some people experience the red flashing notification light after it's been damaged from water.

Some apps use a red notification LED by default. I know my fiancee uses the SportsCenter app and it pulses the LED red when there's a notification.
i see the same happen on my G2, usually when i pull into my driveway and i connect to my wifi
I'm a relatively new nexus 5 user and am sometimes confused by what the color leds correspond to. Is there a tool that will indicate which app sends which color led signal?

I am rooted but using stock rom.
Various apps utilize led notifications but it is hard after a while to remember which color corresponds to which app. I thought there might be a tool, not to modify them but just to list which app sends which color. But I guess not.
Thanks.

If I remember correctly, the LED light does flash red when the phone is charging, I myself downloaded Light Flow, which allows you to manage all aspects of the LED light, I like it much better than not having control over it . But like you said you did nothing, so must be just an app you have.
I wonder if an app that monitored the logcat could deduce who the heck triggered the light so you could at least find out what app was responsible?

So, just like all the previous Moto phones, this one has a hidden LED too!
Using root and any kernel tweaker with an option to adjust leds, you can switch it on. It seems to be only white as far as I could tell but it's there! (In the middle of the speaker grill on top)

How bright is the LED? It might not be useful because of the front flash unless it's a dim light. From the picture it seems bright though.
