I'm considering to buy a long lasting phone and Nexus S seem to be good, do you think it will survive over 2 years without casing? I'm good at caring phone, my current Sony Ericsson G900 is already over 2 years old and still functioning perfectly (it looks worn out clearly) and most people who have my phone broke within a year.
Nexus S is going to be my first Android phone, only thing that I don't like that you can't enable or disable flash in camera mode, it will decide if it should flash or not by it own. The design seem awkward but I could handle it.
I'm also considering Incredible S but it doesn't have enough developers and it's still locked, so I guess I should go for Nexus S.
What do you think, will it survive more than 2 years?

It probably would if your G900 did.
But the galaxy s II is more durable than both.

It depends of what you talking about ? If hardware wise maybe and Evo 3D , htc sensation or SGSII but about updates most likely this one , any phone that is in the market and is a high end device most likely get ice cream(next big update for android) , nexus s most likely get it before anyone else(besides maybe nexus 3) google is trying to get manucfactures to make sure their phones they get updates within 18 months since launch but first they havent sign a form or paper that says they will second they haven't said for how long after google releases the update they need to release it as well so for all I know they could take 6 months( Evo is getting official gingerbread after 6 months, rolling out June 6, and the Evo was one of the best android phones in 2010 and a best carrier phone ) So I would stick with google if you want timely updates , that's one of the reason I got Me a nexus s
He is talking about the phone durability and yes, I would say it should last 2 years. It's made of plastic but it's not poor quality, it's much better then the galaxy S.
Since its a Google phone, you can't go wrong on picking it, it will always have the up-to-date software and will always have developers, even after 3 years (well, unless its about hardware limitation).
Its currently one of the best (if not the best) single core devices on the market, its definitely future proof.
And the camera does have the ability to turn the flash on or off, depending on your preferences.
The design is gorgeous btw, at least I think it is. The curve form is unique and when the display is turned off it looks completely black and clean, I think it looks very elegant.

Thanks for your responses. Though there's one problem, I live in Moscow, Russia and there is no Google support store or something like that, if I need phone repair, it won't be possible?
Though I never need any repairs in past, so hopefully it will be same for Nexus S.

Don't use your rubles on a nexus s when its going to be outdated in a few months
Or, if you can't wait, then just get the GSII. Its what the nexus s shoulda been lol [just the only major letdown is...Touchwiz :'(] plus its available in the motherland, no?

Simple as the title says, i'm just curious is there any point now to get one.
My intentions are simply to just have a fun, i don't want to activate the phone.
I'm currently a Samsung Epic 4G user, is it worth me to buy this phone?
I found one off craigslist for 100$ and it has bad esn.
Would there be any use for me to get this phone?
Thanks in Advance please don't flame.

A bunch of people will likely say you should wait for the new fancy quad core around that illusive corner or you should get that shiny new joint with the bells, whistles, and whurlies. and to all that I just say, ask yourself these questions:
1. Who has the best development community?
2. Who's been running ics for 5 months now?
3. Who has best mix of functionality and performance?
The answer, my friend, is we do. I learned long ago that hardware is just a hardwired piece of crap without development. And our development, in my opinion, is among the best. And our hardware is nothing to play with either. In fact, I don't think the software is at a level to really use the new hardware. It's like running windows 98 on a quad core machine... Why would anyone do that?
I should add, all this is considering you plan on rooting and flashing. If not, get something else.
You without me is like Harold Melvin without the Blue Notes...

Well of course I'm going to root and flash lol I'm no noob at all just wondering why is it that it has boot loader? And funny thing is the epic has all of the same specs except has a KB, Sd Card Slot, And Soft keys actually light up brighter haha. But ill have to give this a thought, BTW is it really hard to root it? I remember for the Epic was simple and easy.

If you just want to have fun then heck yeah buy it! Haha, there's a bunch of ROMS to flash and probably the most ICS ROMS that are stable besides the GSM NS or the G Nex. You can make it your dedicated mp3 player to lol, I've heard that our NS's have some of the best audio hardware around coupled with voodoo sound And yes it is SUPER easy to root!

Voodoo is an awesome addition to the Nexus, but you can always make it even louder with the Loud Volume Hack
unlocking the boot loader is as simple as "fastboot oem unlock" rooting is also really easy, you can turn it into a massacre machine or make it to last a week without charging, a great gallery of modification have come to beeing that give you even more freedom and.. well a lot more. well for 100$ i'd definitely buy it...again

How would it last a week on a small battery? I have the same phone pretty much and had the oem 1500 mAh and on CM7 usuing VR (Scheduler) and Conservative (Governor Clearly lol) and was heavy UV as well and can barely break 15 Hours. Now I have a hyperion 3500 mAh And most I've gotten is 2 days with about 2 Hrs of actual screen on time. I hopped on netflix other day and straight watched it no interuptions except after movie wifi went out and turned it back got 6 Hrs on battery and about 5 Hrs and 30Mins of actual screen on time. Phone was awake the whole time pretty much. I can post screenies but a lil later busy right now. If it can last you a week what are you doing? Are you actually using the phone haha? Thanks for the input guys considering buying it.
Edit: not to mention I use Juice defender as well to help it out and trust me it lasts longer I've tested it you just have to use correct settings to your usage.

This and the Samsung Galaxy S (aka Epic Touch 4G) are practically the same phone with a different case. Looking at features alone the Galaxy has a microsd card slot and FM radio which the Nexus doesn't. I wouldn't bother buying the Nexus if you keep the Touch unless you're dying for an awesome dev community.

So now Google is releasing this Nexus 7. However I still can't decide between this and a TF300. Sure the 7 is a Nexus device, so I'll be getting a perfectly stock experience with good updates, but compared to the TF300 it still seems lacking: no SD slot, way less memory, smaller screen...ok, I know the TF300 isn't as cheap, but compared to the 7 in its 16 gb version it's not much more expensive: I could get it for 330€ right now, and maybe it will drop a little more before the 7 starts shipping. Also, ASUS hasn't got a bad update policy anyway, so it's really a close call. Any suggestions? I really can't decide.
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
For the price of one TF300 you could buy 2 Nexii tablets... they are also targeting two different groups of people. Think do you need a 7' or a 10' tablet and then your decision has been made
First decision you got to make at to you want a 7' or 10.1' tablet
Secondly. do you want the microSD
Finally. do you need the dock for the TF300
HOPED THAT HELPED
Well, honestly I'm not bothered too much by the smaller screen, but I assume that the TF300 will have a bigger battery. Anyway I'm still not sure, because at the end of day it's just a tablet, I don't know if it's worth the extra buck, basically because I'm not really sure about how much I will actually use it.
At the end of the day I just want a new toy, but maybe the TF300 could be more useful in general, and maybe even replace my laptop on some occasions...the dock is cool, but the package becomes expensive that way
Sent from my Lumia 800 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App

Yeah, the fact of it being a Nexus device appeals me the most, basically because I've never owned one. I'd be getting the 16GB version tho, so assuming it will cost 249€ the price isn't that different from the one of the better specced TF300...if it drops to 299€ or so then it would be definitely a better bang for the buck...

Exactly. But since then, (to my knowledge) there hasn't been a nexus device with expandable memory.
I think I read an article no too long ago that companies might start moving away from sd slots.... But I think that seems pretty far-fetched and ridiculus. Anyone know anything about that?

Note 2. Do not pass go. Do not collect $200. Love mine.
You get performance out the wazoo, replaceable HUGE battery, sd card, multi Window, S pen, the development community is starting to pick up (the at&t guys roms are generally flashable to the tmo device), video playback is unbelievable, LTE is just around the corner, it's not an LG...
You can also walk into the store and buy one now. Nexus 4, maybe?
Downsides? The screen is huge, seems more fragile than other devices. Device size means that you will definitely need to play with one on the store before buying. It felt weird to me at the store but I took the plunge. Two days into owning before I decided that size was no big deal. It suffers from the Samsung device general weaknesses such as risk of imei loss and the goofy flash counter thing (these things can more or less be worked around). Obviously there is no physical keyboard.
This thing is awesome.
Hastily spouted for your befuddlement

I too have never really liked LG phones. And despite the quad in the nexus being a bit more powerful, the Note 2 has a lot more to offer in terms of features.

Sorry man, that really sucks. Did it have tracking? or is there any way to find out at what point it got lost? But if it was sent in December then there might be a hold up somewhere. That's sort of what I was thinking about. If I replace my MT4GS, I want a quad core with good support. I've been leaning towards an unlocked HTC One X or a Nexus 4 on StraightTalk's $45 unlimited plan. Finding a One X without a cracked or replaced digitizer is not easy.
Okay guys, if all goes well and I can grab the Nexus 4 today off craigslist for 350 this will be my last day on the doubleshot. I have to start emailing the posters to see if they still have them but I got the cash for my Nexus just have to get it in time.
I will NOT leave you guys out in the cold either. Ill still be around and will still do everything in my power to help you guys. And to think my mind went absent enough to think about iOS....anyways I hope to move some SWaRM stuff to the nexus as well

I mean I tend to hate lg but if it said any other brand id get one for myself too... well I think I still need the hardware keyboard and sd slot... she dosent... I guess she can keep it... I'm rambling....

Well there really isn't enough phone to judge the build quality. It kinda feels awkward in my hands too, but I'm a little dude so I'll get used to it. Its super thin and really light weight, but being all glass the back tends to get slick if you have sweaty hands, and gets dirty really easy.
The camera seems to be a great on in lighting but it will never be as crisp as the doubleshot. Here is the first pic I snapped of my daughter
So I'm so far very satisfied with what pure Google brings to the table.
Later I'm going to look into root/su and one of the many 4.2.1 ROMs out. But I think I could stay stock unrooted and be fine.
The ui smoothness is about on par with doubleshot. That's all I got now man, I haven't played much

**EDIT**
OK so the phone is a pure dream to run, but the screen is no where near as crisp as the doubleshot. I'll take side by side pics tomorrow for you all.

MAN! Don't freak me out like that! I thought you were running off on us! j/k I knew you wouldn't be able to resist working on as many devices as you have access to.
I'm sure glad to hear you're getting such a hot little phone but it DOES seem like there should be some recourse for the DS not making it to you. With a bit of luck, you may end up with a new DS too!
Glad you're hanging around buddy.....I still got lots to learn from you.:good:
iOS!!?? Holy CRAP! Almost went off the deep end there didn't ya?

I don't think deep end explains how insane i was thinking.
Getting root on this thing was one command ./fastboot oem unlock then i was able to fastboot recovery and flash su in about 2 minutes. I'm in heaven now guys, just flashed Paranoid Android v3+ its the first release candidate but its freaking smooth.
And yeah i was thinking today if the ds does come its def going to be used for you guys

I'm still skeptical on whether an enormous screen can really compensate for the lack of a real keyboard.
I have seen the note 2 in person, and my god it's huge. How anyone can carry that around as a phone is beyond me. It makes ANY other phone look mini in comparison.
Depending on how big your hands are, you can't even touch all parts of the screen with one hand. So one handed usability does drop a bit.

The bigger screen makes it so easy to type. I've had a slider phone for the last 3 years and its a breeze changing over to all touch typing. The big issue at first was the lack of physical buttons, and I'm still getting used to that

I'm also in the process of seeking a new device. I've really enjoyed the ROMs that have come out for this device but feel it's time to move on and hand this device down to my kids. I'll also be more than likely going to a nexus 4 for price and support on the forums.

Ok I had a look at the sony z ultra today the 6.4" screen one and it looked amazing, the picture whilst watching a movie was better than my tv!
However I have a Samsung galaxy note, im not getting the note 3 as its to small, I prefer samsungs BUT the current galaxy mega 6.3" specs arnt that good compared to the sony.
I have heard that they should be bringing out a galaxy mega with S4 specs or something like that so my questions are -
Does anyone know if they are actually bringing a better mega out?
and
Anyone got any personal reviews on the Z ultra? looked online at reviews but would rather ask someone who has one
Im in the UK so needs to be a UK phone
Thanks
Yes, I am using the Xperia Z Ultra and it is phenomenal
I don't see why anyone would get a Galaxy Mega over this.

really can I ask you a few questions please, I WONT be getting the current mega but like I said I spoke to a Samsung rep she mentioned a newer one may be coming out this year with better specs so I am tempted to wait for that if its true?
So yeh -
How long have you had it, just as if you have installed all your stuff do you ever find it running slow or laggy at all?
Whats the battery like on it, will it last a day if you use it for the odd texts and phone calls etc?
Do you ever find applications/games that are unable to play as it may not support the phone at all?
Think that's it for now ill let you know if I have any more.
Could you also let me know if there are any problems or any good things you can share at all with it please?
Thanks
Battery easily lasts a day. Would require recharge at night though. No, this thing doesn't slow down at all. It does have the faste. processor available. And 2 gb of ram is plenty enough to multitask without the any app foreclosing.

Couple of others, you know it has the silver thing on the side is that for a dock and a charge>? or how does it get charged is it a micro usb?
The left thing is for magneted charging by the dock and it also has micro use.

Not being funny but holding this up to your head you are going to look like a right tit! Lol... You don't need a massive phone like this... A tablet will do!
