If I purchase the g2x from T-mobile without being a t-mobile customer, will they provide an unlock code?
Go to the store and ask or call them and ask, best way to get solid answers

I think the phone has to be in service for either 60 or 90 days (don't remember which) and then they'll give you the unlock code. You have to tell them you're traveling internationally. It takes about 24 hours from the time of the request for HTC phones and the code is sent in an e-mail. I just got the code for my G2 which I'm selling to get a G2X. The code for the G2X has to come from LG so I don't know what their turn around time is.

I've heard if you've been a customer for (60-90? days), even prepaid, they'll give you an unlock code even on a freshly purchased phone. I've got a T-Mo prepaid card that I keep afloat with minimum top-ups for my trips to the US, so if I do buy the G2x or another T-Mo phone I should be able to get the unlock from them.
I thought it was mandatory now. If you ask for the unlock code, they have to give it to you regardless. Guess I was wrong?
Anyone here work at t-mobile that can give any solutions to non t-mobile customers who don't want to open an account?
I suspect this device is carrier locked, but I would buy one if I could confirm that I could use it on AT&T out of the box.
Compatibility AT&T 4G

Sorry nomisunrider, not trying to hijack your thread, but since we are already Hijacking the o2x forum
I have another question for Non-T-Mobile (AT&T) people.
My question is how compatible is the G2X going to be with AT&T's "4G"?
Also I am currently using Nexus One AT&T 3G, but I am thinking that I should be able to change that to the 4G service without altering my contract, or loosing grandfathered "unlimited data plan"?
Any input or info much appriciated

T-Mobile isn't in the business of selling phones. They'll only sell you a phone in conjunction with a pre- or post-paid wireless plan. As someone said, out of the box the phone is locked to T-Mobile. You can request an unlock code after 60 or 90 days of maintaining an account in good standing.

why don't you wait until after the 20th and most likely you will find them online unlocked..just like the t-mobile sg vibrant
I have a friend on t-mobile. Can he call them up and request sim unlock codes?
I am also in this situation but I prefer not to buy from ebay. What about unlocking services? Do they permanently unlock the phone? Does flashing a different ROM on the phone affect the unlock?

Cant get it right away, but I am sure it will be available soon.

I believe the G2X is unlocked out of box I got to review the device today and it has at&t options under network settings like the Nexus One.
If you purchase out right you can get code immediately (meaning requesting the code). If its an upgrade/new activation must wait until buyers remorse is up and not be past due or had an unlock code in last 90 days. I'm not at work now but that's the policy, I believe not sure if its 90 or 60 though can't remember. Hope this helps

I've been asking around and several people have informed me that if you purchase the phone for full retail, t-mobile will provide you with an unlock code. I also found this on wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SIM_lock#United_States
"One of the two national GSM carriers, T-Mobile,[43] will unlock handsets for those with active account in good standing for at least 40 days and no unlock code request in the last 90 days. T-Mobile will also unlock a phone if the full retail price is paid and proof of purchase is provided through a faxed document. "

Sorry to inform you, but you need to brush up on your company's policies.
I just got off of the phone with t-mobile customer care (1-877-453-1304). I called them because I wanted clarification on this before I purchased 2 full retail price phones.
The program is called the "Sim Subsidy Unlock Program." It is for anyone that purchases a phone for the full retail price from a corporate store or an authorized retailer and pays all of the price upfront.
You need to call customer care, explain that you purchased a phone for full price and request a "remedy request form number." They will then open this request and you then have 7 days to fax the following to the Sim Unlock Team at 1-813-353-6557 :
ATTENTION: SIM UNLOCK TEAM
Full Name
Mobile Number
Email Address
Readable Copy Of Sales Receipt
It takes 24 to 72 hours to process and they will email you instructions to unlock your phone.
Yeah, if you bought the phone full price, then you will not be required to wait any time to unlock the phone. The 3g and 4g frequency will not work well, or at all, because the phone uses 1700 and 2100 for 3g and 4g. The 1700 frequency is exclusive to T-Mobile.

Hi,
I bought a T-Mobile locked HTC Sensation from the ebay. I wanted to get it unlocked from T-Mobile, but they will provide me the unlocking code for the mobile, unless I have an activated line from them. I found the following from the T-Mobile website, and need somebody who is a T-Mobile USA customer to help me out with this. If you are willing to help, send me a PM. I will send you the IMIE number, which could be used to get the unlocking code from T-Mobile.
SIM Unlock Code
For information on the SIM Unlock Code, refer to the following:
If you purchased a wireless phone from T-Mobile, your phone has been programmed with a SIM lock which will prevent the phone from operating with other compatible wireless telephone carrier’s services. If you wish to use the phone with the service of another wireless telephone carrier, you must enter a numeric SIM Unlock Code to unlock the phone.
For customers with a T-Mobile Postpaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 40 days of active service with T-Mobile.
For customers with a T-Mobile Prepaid Plan, T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible customers, provided the requesting customer has a minimum of 60 days of active service with T-Mobile and either a Prepaid Plan account balance of at least $10.00 or a prior refill within the last 30 days.
T-Mobile will provide the SIM Unlock Code upon request to eligible former customers, provided that T-Mobile has such code or can obtain it from the manufacturer.
You may request the SIM Unlock Code for your phone, together with instructions for entering the code, by calling T-Mobile customer care at 1-800-937-8997.
i dont know if they do it but have you try calling htc? also i think there are sites that sell the unlock codes.
I tried for the past week to unlock via T-Mobile. Complete waste of my time. Too many wasted hours on the phone with them. And I WAS eligible!
I ended up buying mine for $25 from htcimeiunlock.com received it 10 minutes later and all was well.

I work in tech care myself and would like to clear something up. T-Mobile does not have unlock codes, period. IF you are eligible (must have an account obviously), your IMEI and account info gets sent to an unlock team, and they get the code directly from the manufacturer. It's not like they have the code ready and said "Go F yourself" lol.
What reason do they have to unlock a phone that is so new they obviously did not recuperate their subsidy yet and for someone who hasn't paid a dime worth of fees.

Not everyone has purchases their phones on contract. Some people buy them outright... and prefer them sim unlocked for traveling with.
I am one of those few people who do just that. T-mobile told me that I need to wait 60 days between time of purchase and sim unlock... Or I could get it done by a third party, usually $25 to do. Google "sim unlock htc sensation"
@stoneyjonez : Ok.. got you. Can you tell me if they would give me the unlock code if a person with a T-Mobile account ( long standing ) and asked them for the unlock code ? Obviously that person wouldnt have bought the phone directly from them
cellunlocker . net I recommend currently only 19.99 for unlock code and takes up to 3 hours
In the past I tried to get a Motorola ROKR E8 unlocked through them. I was eligible and they said they would submit something to whoever they have to submit it to. I tried 3 times and never heard back from anyone. Phone was never unlocked :-(
I would just go online and pay for one, you get way better service that way. Its not like $25 is a big spend compared to the retail cost of the phone your unlocking.
Thanks for all your responses folks !! In my opinion its a bit dodgy to send money to anybody on the net. I have read too many stories where the money is gone but no unlock code. But I can take the recommendations given by others and buy from a reliable service..
Usually yes...if you give your imei to a T-mobile customer they will give them the unlock code for it.
Here is what happened when I sold my Vibrant after buying my new Sensation: I requested the unlock code from t-mo, they replied in 24 hours that the phone would not be unlocked due to it not being the current phone on the network for my account. (I then unlocked the Vibrant by rooting it and using an unlock method via adb)
So I am guessing that a t-mo customer would not be able to help out, since the phone would not be on the network.
From what I have read on the internet, if you tell them that you are travelling internationally and would like to use a local sim, they give you the unlock code. Also, see my first post where I have posted the rules specified on the T-Mob website for requesting a unlock code and the guidelines they use for qualification of a customer.
i use my sensation on the network and so i called in to request my unlock code..they did all the button pushing on their side and said i will get an email within 72 hours with the unlock stuff...will post when i get it or what i get.

my current phone in the network is the sensation and i asked for the code of the hd2 and they gave it to me. and i didnt have to lie. i told them the truth, that i bought the sensation and was going to give the hd2 to my girlfriend and because she is in another company i needed the code so she can use the phone.
i guess it just depends if you get a good rep.by the way i did it via the costumer care online chat. i saved the transcript here it is.
Thanks for your detailed response.. Anybody willing to give it a shot with for my phone with T-Mobile ?
sorry man. i dont want to risk into getting in trouble. i bet others here are thinking the same. so guess your only option is to pay for it online. do good search for a reliable site.
I just picked up a bell sensation and I can't find any company that has an unlock code for it. Anyone know how long it takes for the unlockers to get the codes from htc?
Try Cellunlocker. I got 2 Sensations unlocked from them for 19.99 each. Got the unlock codes within 4 hours. Mine were the T-Mobile version but they unlock the Bell version as well.
So far it seems no one has successfully unlocked the Bell versions. I spoke to a Bell rep today who said their HTC Sensation would not be issued unlock codes like their other models.
Is there any other way to unlock the device?
Can you confirm that the bell sensation has a protective lens for the camera. I went to the source and they have a dummy phone for bell sensation and it had a lens so that the camera is not recessed. Can you confirm this?
I went to cellunlocker and tried searching up my bell sensation IMEI that starts with a 35644 and it did say it had the unlock code for it. I also did the same with htcimeunlock but they did not have the code for my IMEI. I have no experience ordering from cellunlocker so i have no idea whether or not the site was telling the truth.

Many sites are selling the NAM sensation as "unlocked" and some have already shipped to buyers like Nergi Electronics. I can't imagine that they would have sold theses unless they were unlocked. I am waiting for mine and I called the place I am getting it from and they told me it is 100% unlockled.
I tried both those sites and they couldn't unlock the phone. I was told it would take a couple of days to get the updated tables. I really hope they can unlock this phone I can't think of any htc phone that didn't have an unlock.
Eventually there will be an unlock, it may be a bit soon as the phone was just officially released today (Bell) and mitigating factors like Bell are probably getting in the way.

It seems Rogers has burned some bridges (particularly the one with HTC). Bell has great phones out. I'm actually amazed... I switched to them for a few months and their coverage in my town was out of this world.
I reluctantly switched back to Rogers for the amazing retention rate plan and features I had though. I hope they take a page out of what Bell's doing though. They've stepped up their game considerably.
Any update on this? Wanting to unlock my Bell Sensation to use on AT&T!
Has anyone tried Mobile in Canada? According to this page, it looks like they should be able to do it.
https://www.mobileincanada.com/1550-How-To-Unlock-code-en-HTC-Sensation-4G-Bell.html
You get an error saying they can't unlock it yet when you submit the IMEI...
im waiting for someone to confirm they have unlocked their bell sensation until i buy one. i hope its soon
Hey Everyone,
I sell alot of Unlock Codes on eBay and to other reseller websites online.
The current HTC Database is out of date and the next update is expected sometime next week.
Once the DB is updated all BELL HTC Sensations will have a code. For now there is no point trying different guys/websites, because in the end it is ONE database that everyone checks against.
Here is my HTC Sensation auction for unlock codes, but BELL IS NOT SUPPORTED RIGHT NOW.

But the main question is still when will the servers be updated..
I tired of carrying around a phone that I cannot use. Not that I don't like my Atrix,
I just want a bigger screen.
By the way I tried mobileincanada.com and they don't have the code and they gave me a refund withing 2 hours without me having to ask for it.
I ** highly ** recommend them as another option when the servers are updated.
I also tried gsmconnexxion and have not got a refund yet, it's been 2 days and i'm still waiting.
Well lets get back to the main question again

you tried gsmconnexxion? That is me and i don't have any refunds pending.
I am guessing you are just here advertising for mobileincanada? Anyways if you REALLY do have a refund pending send me a msg.

Thanks for the update fr0z3n. It gives me hope that Bell won't be locking down the device forever.
@fr0z3n: Thanks for the info, please keep us updated as to when the server gets updated.
I noticed that in your eBay link that you are selling the codes for $25.99US each while mobileincanada.com is $20CDN even. Are you willing to beat the mobileincanada.com price? Please note that I do realize that selling on eBay carries extra costs for the listings/final price fees, but what if we were to purchase from you outside of eBay? Is a group deal possible if a bunch of us get together and make a commitment to purchase a code from you when they are available?
Yes if it is a group deal then I can do $19.00 CAD (NOT USD) or $20 USD.
The margins for HTC codes are very low, but for a group deal I can certainly provide that.
I got my hands on a brand new ATRIX 2 (AT&T) and want to use it with my T Mobile prepaid. Cellunlocker stated that it would be 4-6 business days to send me the code. 4-6 days??? Come on! Does this sound reasonable?
Some companies are like that.
Others claim 15 to 20 minutes, guess you fell into one of the longer ones. Nothing to do but wait, hopefully they'll have it for you before then.

Actually it is and I will tell you why. Nobody can do an Atrix 2 in 10 to 15 minutes. That is how long they will take to submit your order after you pay. It is word games to trick you into thinking you will get a faster unlock. At this time, until the Atrix 2 is in the AT&T unlock database, which takes about nine months after release, there is only one server (that I know of) to get the codes and all the unlocking services are using the same server. That server only accepts batch orders twice a day Monday through Thursday, one batch early on Friday and one batch Sunday evening. So if you ordered Friday night your order cannot be submitted to the server until Sunday. The turnaround time for this server is two business days, including the day it was submitted. So most likely your code will come back Tuesday. From a late Friday purchase that would be five days including the day you ordered. If you are lucky it might come back Monday. I just got an Atrix 2 sent to me from the U.S. last week. U.S. time my unlock order was submitted around 10:30 p.m. Monday evening and the code returned just before Noon on Wednesday (2 business days). Since I subscribe to the unlocking service as a reseller I was notified immediately by the server when my code returned. If you are using a reseller you also need to wait for them to contact you once your code is returned by the server. I hope this explains why you need to wait. Once the codes are in AT&T's database turnaround time will be minutes and the price will drastically drop to a few dollars at the most. Right the cost on these codes run between $15 to $30 for them. The cheapest code resellers are on ebay. Usually the website based resellers will charge around double the eBay sellers. The eBay sellers sell the codes very close to their wholesale cost and only make a few dollars per unlock, if they are lucky.
Also you will most likely be given two unlock codes. Only one will work. If the first one does not work try the second one. One of them should work. In my case I was lucky and the first code of the two worked. Enter your code carefully and make sure you enter it correctly.
I got mine and my wife's subsidy unlock codes through at&t. They said they couldn't generate the code in- house for the A2, and the had to make a case file and send it the the "National Device Unlock Team" or something.. And like a month before, I got the code for the Infuse from them over the phone within in minutes (was my wife's phone, we returned it and upgraded her to the A2 though). Anyway, the codes for our A2's came in a little less then a week. So, I think it's normal, they probably don't have the codes for our phone readily available yet.
Aside from putting in a diff sim, you can aslo punch in #073887* in the dialer. We tried it with a diff sim once, and the sim itself had a pin lock and I was entering the subsidy code in there and it wasn't working and freaking me out when I got down to one try left... so, the dialer code is much simpler..

I'm super interested in the whole "Unlock" thing since I might want to take my phone to a different service. Since sazhagianambi seems to be our resident genius on the subject I would like to direct the questions to him:
Does unlocking the phone while still being on the network cause any "errors" on said network (e.g. Unlocking AT&T and staying on AT&T)?
Does the unlocked phone need anything when taking it to another network (e.g. Unlocked AT&T android phone and going to straighttalk)?
Finally when everyone says "oh i have a code from __________ and it took me ___ days/weeks" are the codes different? and if not.. howcome people don't post them up? (I would understand if you want to direct the answers to me privately)
I will answer your questions since I run an unlocking service and am very knowledgeable on the subject.

No it causes no problems at all. The phone never sends a signal to any network that is is subsidy locked or unlocked.

Yes. You need to go into settings and set the APN for your new carrier for data to work if the APN is not already in the phone's APN database. On a stock rom it will likely not be there. If you unlock and then flash a custom rom, the APN for most carriers will likely already be in the phone.

Codes are unique to each and every device. They are usually based on the IMEI number alone, but in some cases they are also based on locked carrier ID and other numbers in the phone (such as an SVN number in some Motorola phones - does not apply to the Atrix or any other Moto Android phone).
Also, in the case of the Atrix 2 AT&T can and does change the unlock codes OTA once the phone is activated on their network. That is why when you get an Atrix 2 unlock code, you may receive two or three unlock codes. These are all codes that are in the databases for a specific IMEI and the wholesalers don't know which one is correct. They don't know if the original moto assigned unlock code is correct or if the AT&T one has been sent to the phone OTA. So they provide all known codes and tell you to carefully try them all. In the case of my personal Atrix 2, the first code worked and I am happily using my AT&T Atrix 2 in Thailand on DTAC getting 4G service. Once the phone is unlocked, even if AT&T sends an OTA unlock code change, it won't matter because once you unlock the phone it stays unlocked forever, unless the carrier sends an explicit re-lock command, which they never do. You only enter the code once and it is done.
People don't post codes because they will not work on your phone. You have a limited number of attempts (usually 5 or 10) to enter the correct subsidy code. Once you have reached the limit of attempts the phone will no longer allow you to enter the code and is considered "hard-locked" to that carrier, meaning you can never unlock it by code. You will then need to have the phone hardware unlocked which is done with special software that hacks either the baseband code or NVM (non volatile memory) that is read at boot time. Hardware unlocking is dangerous and can damage your phone. Unlocking by subsidy code is the only way to safely and properly unlock your phone.
Some phones get almost instant unlock code numbers such as LG and older Motorolas as they are in databases that have been obtained by unlocking wholesalers. Some phones like very old Nokia or BlackBerry devices have calculated codes and once the algorithm is known it is just a case of computing the unlock code. Newer phones like the Atrix 2 are harder to get codes for and take two business days for the wholesalers to retrieve the codes from their source. Soon, maybe two to six months, Atrix 2 codes will likely be in the instant database and the price will drop from around $15.00 to around $2.00, but if you want your phone unlocked now I would not wait for that to occur.
Hope this answered your questions. i know I was not the intended responder but this way you get your answers faster.
I just did the unlock from these guys (unlockfusion) from ebay. they charged me $16 .. I submitted my IMIE code on Monday afternoon and Got the unlock code yesterday (Tuesday evening). That was really fast. may be I was lucky.
on a side note: Nowhere related to that company.

What is this VictoryROM? Something you ported to the A2? Is it, or is it going to be available to the community to try out?

I create my own Roms.. (All VictoryRom's are created by me) Once I feel comfortable and make sure No bugs are there... I post it.
basically I don't Like heavy Themes + Extras scripts + overclocking which most of the rom's comes with so i create my own.
My rom's consists of
As stock as possible with root and very minimum themes (Mostly ICS)
Some nice to haves like Beats audio etc
some build props edits etc.
Remove junk (But on Atrix2 I did not, as I'm new to Motorola phone so just freezed them)
these are few... So far its as stable as Stock rom.

That's not true, they are locked to O2 network. Fill in a form here: https://www.o2.co.uk/apps/help/help?qid=1&q1=2&route=unlocking&case=Handset Unlocking Form and wait. It took them one day to supply me with an unlock code.
Thank you very much. Already received it and, as you told, it's locked. I'm not living in UK and bought the phone on ebay to use overseas. The link you provided it's for 02 contract customers, no? Do you know any reliable unlock code provider? Cheers

Well, most likely the person who sold you the phone is an O2 contract customer. You could ask that person to request an unlock code for you as it would be free of charge. Another option is to get O2 Pay & Go sim card and doing it yourself. See this: http://service.o2.co.uk/IQ/SRVS/CGI...ef(User):str(Mobile),CASE=ref(unlockmymobile) which might be tricky if you're not in the UK I don't know of any reliable unlock sites, but they usually charge a fortune for this.
This thread describes the situation I was in, in case anyone stumbles on it later.
I tried via the O2 online chat to get the phone unlocked. They said that I could not unlock it because they could only supply an unlock code if the phone had been used for 12 months on O2 and their records showed that this particular phone had only been used for three months. So, it looked like I would have to get a UK O2 SIM and use it for nine months. That is not easy if you live in Australia. However there is a site called Travelgear that sells O2 SIMs and lets you charge them up with 20 pounds of credit. So, I did that, and installed the SIM with a view to seeing out the 9 months, perhaps sending a text every so often and topping up each month. After installing the SIM I received a text from O2 saying I had 100MB of data to use. In trying to work out the status of the phone account I pressed an O2 shortcut on the front screen which opened up an app which when I pressed on the "My O2" button, opened up the web browser, which would not let me log into any information. Then, I thought I would ask O2 again to unlock via their online support form. Unsurprisingly, they responded that they could not but surprisingly, they said that the reason was that I did not have the necessary 15 pounds of credit. I queried that because I thought I should have 20 pounds. Ha ha! While it is 100MB, it is 6 pounds per MB if you are roaming in Australia! The brief attempt to check my account status had wiped out my credit. Gosh how I laughed.
Anyway, in parallel with all of this I tried an unlocking site called gsmliberty. They said they would need to go to a "second level database" at an additional charge and I said no thanks I will have a refund, which they promptly gave without fuss. Then I tried CellUnlockerPro. First time, they said the servers were down, which I thought was just an excuse for not being able to get the unlock code as gsmliberty had not been able to, so I asked for a refund and they too gave it to me promptly. About a week later CellUnlockerPro emailed to say the server was up so I thought nothing to be lost and gave it a shot. I put in the wrong IMEI but again CellUnlockerPro gave me a refund because I spotted the mistake early. I tried again and lo! they gave me an unlock code which worked.
So, moral of this sad story seems to be that if you are in Australia, do not waste money trying to get the free unlock out of O2, just spend the 30 USD that CellUnlockerPro charges.
