[Q] HTC One X (Rogers) strange speaker issue - AT&T, Rogers HTC One X, Telstra One XL

Hi guys,
My HTC One X (Rogers) was working fine until one day I noticed that while I had my AUX cable or headphones plugged in, the ringtone upon receiving a call would be so loud that it'd distort. When I receive calls without having either of these plugged in, the ringer volume is fine but upon plugging them in, the sound amplifies 3x causing a very poor sound quality. It gets fixed after a factory reset (the reset option which only resets accounts and settings and leaves the data as it is). It stays fine for 3-4 days until it starts happening again. I sometimes do a hard restart after full battery charge just to calibrate battery by pressing and holding down power button until it restarts.
A notice appears after restart in the notifications bar,(send error report to HTC.) And I click on it to see it saying that the phone had an abnormal restart. Could this be causing the issue?
I don't have any problems with music or sound without AUX or headphones plugged in.
No problems with music with them plugged in.
Only ringtones distort and get extremely loud when they're plugged in.
This issue was never there since I bought it and has started to trouble me recently :'(
I'm in stress because of this and cannot factory reset every three days. So please help me out if you can. I'd be very grateful

You can try downloading the 3.17 ota for your carrier and installing it through your phones recovery.

Will it fix the issue? Do I lose my data upon update?

What's the process of installing OTA via recovery? My phone has stock rom and I cannot find a way to install ota via recovery.

So you'll want to download the OTA zip file from one of the RUU threads. Click the Resource compilation thread link in my signature and scroll down to the RUU section.
Then check the MD5 of your download to make sure there's no corruption.
Then copy the zip file to your SD card. Then boot to bootloader by holding the power button. The back, home, and recent apps buttons will blink (7 times?) then the screen will go black. Let go of power and hold volume down until the bootloader comes up.
Select recovery
When you get a picture on your screen, press power and volume up at the same time(I think?) then you should get a few options one of which being install from zip or something like that.
Select that option, browse to your zip file, select it and let the phone do the rest.
Charge your phone up before doing all this so it doesn't die in the process. Takes about 10-15 mins to complete. I've only done this once that's why I'm a little shady on the details.
Good Luck.

[Q] I can't shut my phone down! just restarts!! PLEASE HELP

running cleanrom 3.0, no matter what option i choose in restart menu or shut down, it just does a hot restart
wish i could do a god damn battery pull
[EDIT] This self resolved this time but wtf??
To simulate battery pull hold power button it will blink a few times then turn off. Also disable fast boot in power options.

Yup. Its meant to work all the time, in place of a battery pull.

I had this same problem today.
But the advice given above didn't work for me?
I had to do a factory reset on the phone.
Then the trick to shutting down the phone is to do it BEFORE you set up the phone, immediately after the first bootup.
Just for the fun I decided to brick my phone on purpose. Holding the power button will effectively turn the phone off. Got back into my recovery and reloaded a backup.

Not much of a "brick" if you can just recover from a backup.
Shoot, then i probably brick 4 or 5 times a week

I also experienced this issue yesterday and was able to resolve the issue. Although I am running sick-sense, this might work for you to because I think the issue is kernel related. Try plugging your phone using the charger, and unplug it. see if it resolves your problem. Let us know if this helps so other who might encounter this issue have a fix.

[Q] Sounds Issue

Anyone else having a problem with their sounds after "un-muting" the phone? Example being I mute the phone at night or for a meeting, then when I turn the volume back up I notice my sounds for texts, fb, emails, etc do not work anymore, and I have to go back and manually reset them. The phone ringer does still work though. Just curious if it's something I am doing wrong or have overlooked. Not rooted or unlocked. Yet.
My phone does the same thing with the sounds. Except ive never muted my phone and im unlocked and rooted

The only thing I've noticed about sound is that ringtones and notifications go thru the head phones or bluetooth device when one is connected, instead of the back speaker.
Further Observations
Last night I tried turning the volume down to the lowest setting, but that was no good either. Today I have received a handfull of emails with no sound at all after I turned the volume back up. I can't verify texts yet as I haven't received any to this point. If it makes a difference or not these are all custom alerts or tones, not "factory" sounds.
Mine r factory tones i still hav the problem. I believe its a software issue the brand new phones have

Moto or ICS?
Hypothesis
After several weeks, I think I may have figured it out somewhat, at least for me. It seems if I have the phone plugged into my computer usb either in mass storage or media mode, and get an alert of some kind (sms, email, etc) it will cause the sounds issue. If I just use the wall charger, I don't seem to get the sounds issue.

Can't get into hboot / recovery / fastboot

So, I thought I knew what I was doing, but apparently not.
I tried flashing XYLON.
Now, the phone gets stuck on the boot animation. I've been trying to get it to work for the last 12 hours. It either gets stuck on the boot animation, or on the "Android is updating" screen. I can't even get into the hboot to boot into recovery.
Can anyone recommend a course of action to bring my phone back to life?

Its s-off.
I haven't touched my hboot since i rooted my phone.
Hold down power until lights flash 7-10 times. Simulates a battery pull. Then push volume down and press and hold power button for 4-5 seconds, then release power while still holding volume down.. should go to bootloader. Sounds like your not timing it correctly

Well, I'm still trying that. I've done it the way you''ve mentioned it here as well. Trying it again now. I've never had problems getting into my hboot before. :S
Something just seems wrong.
Once I get back home, I'm gonna pull the phone apart and check if something's wrong with my volume button. The Vol. up stopped working, but vol down was working just fine....
Let it boot as far as it will go and see if adb will recognize it. If it does adb reboot bootloader

I've tried that.I kept it for an hour, let it go as far ahead as it would. ADB does not see it.
I agree, if you cant get Into bootloader its a timing issue. Try holding the power buttons until the capacitive buttons blink 7 times or so, when the screen goes black let go of power and press and hold only volume until the bootloader comes up. This way is almost impossible to miss.

Seem like I've been missing the timing all day. :/ I'm gonna check my hardware this evening... lets see what happens after that.
I have heard of a case where someone had to physically disconnect the battery before they could get into bootloader but that's a *****. Since you're s-off you could try RUUing.

RUU doesn't work. I can't get RUU to detect my phone. It doesn't boot up. It's stuck at the boot logo. And even if I leave it connected to ruu while i'm trying to reboot, or trying to get into hboot, it still doesn't detect my phone.
Well... You could let the battery drain and then charge it for about 10 mins then unplug from power and press and hold power and volume.

Well, I've already pulled my phone apart once to replace my broken screen. Which is why I'm suspecting it could be a hardware problem. Somehow. *sigh*
And I'm in. Finally.
I let the phone's battery drain completely. I pulled apart the phone, and pressed down on the volume + power pins/buttons directly. And I got into the boot loader.
I'm currently restoring the backup of the rooted stock rom I always keep on my phone storage.
Thank you everyone for your suggestions and support.
I just saved myself a whole lot of money. ^_^

So my situation is similar but my htc inc s is brand new from ebay china seller ( I live in Greece), is s-on, never messed up with, never rooted all factory. It worked great for few days and after the first OTA update I cant get into hboot, adb doesn't see the phone, always the updating symbol on screen.Tried battery pull, volume down + power in all the possible timing and combinations but yet nothing! Also I tried battery pull, volume up + power it vibrates 3 times orange lid is on and black screen (on the forums is said that this is diagnostic menu). So I think maybe this phone is a refurb and not new since the answer from HTC global support (after sending my IMEI and S/N) is that this phone is for Indonesian market and that its warranty expired year ago! Can you help me in some way guys...

how
I can do it like you could help me I have no experience in that.
The phone needs to at least turn on for adb commands or an ruu to possibly work. If it just stays black it could be bricked and require a jtagg or motherboard replacement

Volume increases by itself, intermitently.

Had my Nexus 5 for about a week and suddenly encountered this problem in the past few days.
When the phone is unlocked, the volume will increase as if someone was pressing the volume up hardware button. This happens every couple of seconds. The volume never goes back down.
I don't have the unit in a case and nothing else is near the button when this happens.
Rooted the phone a few days before this happened and it is steadily getting worse. i.e. as soon as you unlock the phone, the volume starts going up. Very annoying when you set it to vibrate, since it just starts beeping loudly at you as it increases the volume.
I have a 32GB white if that makes any difference.
I've done a factory reset and that makes no difference.
Did this happen before rooting the device?
I think this is not hardware problem since it happened to me before in my old phone. I fixed it by reflashing the stock firmware. In your case flash the factory image and see if it fixes it.

No it didn't. But it wasn't immediately noticable after rooting either - maybe a day after.
Is your house haunted by chance?
I have a similar issue, not rooted. Sometimes when I adjust my volume it's not as loud as it should be. I will turn it up to max and barely hear it. After I turn it from max to silent a few times it eventually goes back to the correct volume. Restart didn't help.
When I reflashed the stock image the problem remained. However, when I relocked the bootloader the problem went away.
Weird problem. Weird solution.
I haven't tried rooting again yet but I'm sure I will soon. Hopefully the problem doesn't come back.

So I unlocked the bootloader again and installed TWRP then got root from there, and the volume problem returned.
I relocked the bootloader and the problem went away. So it seems related to the bootloader being locked/unlocked.
A perhaps related question: When on the bootloader/fastboot screen, my options ("Start", "Boot recovery" etc.) cycle by themselves. Only when I plug in the USB cable do the options stop cycling. Is this normal?

No this is not normal behavior. The volume buttons cycle through the options so looks Luke you gave a dodgy volume switch
