Hi All,
Currently i'm on LiquidSmooth (2.2 iirc) solely for the ability to fully customize the long-press action on my buttons. I'd love to try some more ROMs (nothing against Liquid, just like flashing ;p) but am simply not willing to give up this ability.
Any tips/apps/etc people can recommend to add this functionality? I poked around and didn't see anything, but feel free to troll me if i missed something obvious
Not sure what you're asking but Slim Bean has long press customization.

CleanRom
I think cleanRom has this too if not you can customize it and yeah never try carbon there is no way to do this stuff on that rom.

I am thinking of creating a custom Rom for the Verizon Galaxy S III. I am planning of basing it on AOSP, and I know what features I want out of the Rom. I'm posting here so that you can reply with what YOU would want in a Rom so that I can develop it for you

As many customization options as possible. Def notification background customization. I wish we could get the aokp circles lock screen but with notification rings like on tw ROMs

I was thinking of including most of the AOKP customization options. Are you saying that you want the notification ringtones from touchwiz?
Include codename android features and you'll be loved lol
Jellywiz, plus aokp settings, plus "kinda crap mods" during install, minus as many apps as possible, choice of radio, choice of kernel during install...
Hmm what else, lol
Of course up to date android version, oh and the mms app from aosp with the quick reply in the drop down status would be nice.
I'm sure i could keep going, but you asked

Thanks for your feedback! This will be a jelly bean rom... However, I am planning on making this rom more of a "stock" android rom. I am leaving out touchwiz because in my opinion it makes many things slower and it just feels clunky to me. I will be trying to incorporate features from CyanogenMod, AOKP, CodenameAndroid, and maybe even a few from ParanoidAndroid. Kinda Crap's mods are intended for touchwiz based roms, so I will most likely leave those out, however I may try to include Pimp my Rom's features. When it come's to choice of Kernel, instead of making it a choice during install, I might just post links to the kernel's on the Rom's thread and give detailed instructions on how to flash each one (as well as the optimum setting in my opinion).
I understand what they are, but can someone please explain why they are so popular and what benefits they have??
Pie controls appear to be a selling point for many ROMs, but why are they useful? Infuses have hardware keys and so pie is unnecessary.
I just want to know if I am missing something...
Thanks!
Some people (like me) hate the fact that the backlights for the buttons are always on. PIE takes the buttons out of the equation, and no backlight issues.

It's just new and has a cool factor.

I have tried the pie control too and found that I didn't really liked it as well. I just think it's the flavor of the month.
I may be wrong though!

I agree pie controls are just the new thing. I like em but... I feel that in the infuse pie controls are unnecessary... However I could see them used on a new device instead of onscreen navigation keys.
sent from an old book
they are by user preference i think, its just that some people use their infuse one hand and some use both in some instances, so when u press and hold to your comfortable side you can simply slide to your shortcut
Im in search of a ROM that has multi level pie controls. so far ive only seen it on Slim Bean Rom and altho I love the Pie control setup for it I didnt really enjoy the ROM that well. Can anyone point me in the right direction? BTW I know that i can download the app and have pie but its not as clean as id like it to be...unless someone can hook me up on how to make the pie button for the app to look like the original pie thatll be great!
Nevermind...other than Slim Bean there's LiquidSmooth Rom
I think LMT launcher has this feature as well so you can use any ROM you choose and still have pie.

Depending on what you want it for, there is 'Pie Control' in the app store that has multi-level (and short/long press actions as well) for a total of 20 shortcuts.
Well, im using Apex launcher now and i love it and would hate to move away from it. and ive tried the app from play store and its nice but i was looking for something more like the original pie controls where instead of the shortcuts being icons its more of a button thats more uniform with the rest just like the original where i can a screenshot button and keyboard switcher etc.
Beanstalk has all that too.

I saw my friends note 2 which had the multi window function basically you can have two windows up at the same time. I thought this was very useful and even better than what we have using halo. I was wondering if there was a ROM they had this type of functionality. what he was using was a touch wiz ROM.
thank you

Clearly you're brand new to the s3. It has multi window built in in the latest update.

That's funny. You buy a phone and don't even know how to use it. Did you immediately root and flash a custom Rom. Just long press the back button.

Yeah no idea how to use it, cant even make a call on it. Its crazy.
Luckily thanks to searching the web I found a place with a Q and A section. I think you are supposed to be able to ask a question in that section and get some help. Then usually they have some helpful people who try to answer the questions.
Its probably not your fault, mom woke you up early and you were a little cranky. So being an @sshole was the easy thing to do. I dont blame you but I would definitely have some words with your parents.
PS long pressing the back button closes apps. Just letting you know

Long pressing the back button with multi Windows turned on a touch wiz rom will enable or disable it. You can call me anything you want but I will not be pulled into insults. You did have it right I was a little cranky and you can talk to my wife about that. I apologize for my comment insulting you. As soon as you said halo I knew you was using something other than touchwiz. I should have simply said with touchwiz and clarified. I was not being helpful like this community deserves. CM based and tw roms are different and should have asked what you was running. Sorry again and I hope you the best with any future questions.

Hey its cool.
Yeah I probably should have added I have been on PA ASOP for 10 months. I like it, but I feel that multi windows would be very useful. I might have to try one of the touch wiz roms to see if this is true.
Thanks again
Yep pretty much all the tw ROMs now have multi window

If you jump to tw Rom I recommend bonestock v3.3. Give you a lot of options for customizing but you will be missing out on a lot of PA features you have probably got used to. I have used PA on multiple devices but I never could stay with it as my long-term rom

My favorite "feature" of PA is the look in settings with the tablet layout. Its shallow but I love the way it looks and its easy to adjust settings.
I never really used pie that much, it was just difficult for me.
I did like Halo because I am always using multi windows. GPS, Web browsing, gmail, or even FB and twitter. I always seem to have 2 things going on. Halo made it easier.
Bonestock hmm well that will be the first one I try. I love getting recommendations, because it can be a daunting task to figure out which rom to flash. Especially with 50+ tw roms.
multi window is cool, but its much more useful on a bigger screen.
good luck finding what you need

Like on a tablet? I just find it more useful on a 7 inch screen of a tablet then on a 5 inch screen of a smartphone.
yeah or the note.
itsc ool. i fiddled around with it for a while but found myself not using it after a couple of days. its worth trying if you think youll benefit from it. i just didnt find it as useful as i expected
Hi everyone,
I'm hoping this isn't a total noon question, but here it goes...
So I really like AOKP, but it isn't available for the One yet. I'd love to be able to remap the keys and have customized navring, like AOKP offers, but I'm afraid I'll have to wait till AOKP comes to OnePlus before I get this chance.
Can anyone let me know if its possible that I can somehow port certain features from ROMs myself?
Thanks!

Look harder http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/development/rom-t2831257
By the way the features you mentioned is in Mahdi ROM if you choose to not use AOKP.
