Hello, I purchased a galaxy tab 7 plus in Hong Kong. All work great until 2 days ago, I inserted another Sim card then it now says no Sim card. I tried with several other Sim cards but no luck, I did a factory reset, flashed with firmware from Sam mobile but still no luck, I don't know what else to do before I send it to Samsung for repair that gonna be expensive, help is greatly wanted, thank you.

Try to insert the sim card with the tablet on. Does it restart? If not are you sure you are inserting it with the correct side?
Hello, thanks for the answer, I tried all that already, anyway the Sim only fit in one position so you cannot take wrong.
The tab restarts when inserting card yes.
I tried also taking the battery out for 10 mins... Clean the head of the Sim compartment but no luck.

Just removed the back by pushing under the sd card slot then inserted a flat tool to unclip the lid, then removed the batery connector.
However i still have the issue, its driving me crazy as it is my working tool...
does the original SIM still work in it?
perhaps try flashing original & latest frimware updates for new/different modem.
I know one chinese version of tab plus has locked bootloaded dud to China's restrictions, I would not be surprised if they have locked down modem as well.
And for the heck of it you could always try Galaxy S Unlock app, to be certain you're unlocked.
Strongly suggest backing up /EFS folder (twice) just in case.
Thanks for the suggestion, I flashed the device twice already but there is only one file. Could you direct me to the files you are referring to please I'll take a look when I'm back home, thanks again.

I would try EVERYTHING else before flashing a new modem. Toggle airplane mode. disable/enable packet data, etc.
First, does the original SIM still work?
If so I would give the Galaxy S Unlock a shot for the heck of it.
These other SIMs have you tried them in other devices to either make sure they work or activate them?
did you purchase device on a SIM contract??
sim issue
The original sim does work, i have put it in other phones and it works fine, i have also tried other sim but still same issue, message still say "please insert sim card"
I have purchased the tab sim free in hk so no, no contract, it did work fine since december until 2 days ago where i input a data only sim card, when i insert sim card it does reboot, meaning it detects the card in the socket but thats it.
Concerning Galaxy S Unlock my tab is not rooted i have used only legit firmware until now so im not sure about that.
PS: looking at my phone servie status it says:
Service State: Out of service
Are you sure you havent been sold a bad or expired sim card?
Id try to give samsung customer support a call at least, they will probably tell you to send it to them anyway.
Can you try exchanging this for another one where you puchased it?
Well, i bought it during my holidays in hk but i live in norway, so... bit difficult to chage it, the sim card works just fine in other devices so it should work in tab.
I tried the galaxy s unlock and during step 1 it says error for efs backup, so either because im not rooted or because my efs is corrupted.
Probably because youre not rooted.
Im wondering if the SIM could be from a small provider which isnt recognized by the device?
It should at least dected then say something like network provider unrecognized, etc.
I really dont what to say.
I would keep trying other sims, try to get a 5$ pre pay from a major carrier like O2, 3, tmobile, etc. not sure what carriers you have over there.
Well i use Telenor which is the biggest and also quite big in europe, i will call customer service tomorrow and hear what they say, but i fear its gonna rip my pockets...

did you push the simcard all the way to the bottom of the slot?
I need a pen to push it....so I wonder if you insert your sim card properly.

yes, since the first time, repair shop said they cannot help since device has been purchased in hong kong...
No solutions until today...
Solved
After dismantling the tab completely (hard work guys...) i confirm that the sim card reader is defect, the cushions that reads the card did not press completely on it so i applied a temporary fix by adding an extra layer to thicken the card so it can press correctly on the cushions. I did try this fix before with the tablet in one piece, however i could not get it to work correctly.
Anyway thanks for your help and i'm happy that i can use it again
Having a huge issue here need some help, I recently finally got my unlock code from ATT and was very happy, I applied my unlock code with a SIM I had at work and all was good, I will be traveling out of country and had an Ekit SIM decided to test with the phone, it worked fine, then I went to put in my ATT SIM (i had it cut for microsim size, so I`m using adapter, but never had issues) and now I get the little no SIM sign and no service, interesting part is that the signal bars seemed to go up maybe just cosmetic...
I was on the ICS and then went back to SkyICS which is 2.3.5 but my modem statyed on UCLA4, I found the older 3 modem and now it shows no bars but still SIM is not working, I tried multiple SIM cards and always show the SIM symbols and when I go to mobile networks it says SIM is not present. Please help me as this is my primary phone and Im stuck, I really wouldnt like to reset everything.
If it was me I'd make a nandroid backup, then ODIN flash the Samsung official stock I727 UCKJ2 2.3.5 firmware from sammobile here. After flashing stock, booted into stock e3 recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset and see if that resolves the 'no sim' issue. If the phone still doesn't recognize the AT&T sim, take it into an AT&T store and request a new sim card. If it's still borked even with a new sim card they should swap it under warranty.

I guess I have to try to go to Stock, no choice here, I know its not the SIM tried in wifes phone and its fine, also that EKit SIM that just worked in the phone does not, could I some how damaged the SIM card holder ?
Sounds like it could be the sim slot. Anyway, if you put it back to stock you'll have not issues at the store when you swap it. Then restore your nandroid backup on the new phone.

Only thing is I bought this phone on ebay back in January, its registered under my account and everything, and I got it brand new. I hope ATT will repair/replace under warranty. Sad thing is I was fighting with ATT for 2 weeks to get this phone unlocked and finally got it now I have to swap it and go thru the same process .
I dont get how this happened, this is not the first time I swap SIMs and all was good, I think its pretty hard to break a SIM slot, but I guess I did it some how. So Pissed off right now its not even funny
Just as a long shot, maybe try cleaning the sim card contacts with a pink pencil eraser. Sounds crazy, but I have a Garmin running watch and the contacts on the back sometimes get dirty and it won't sync with my PC, so I just 'erase' them a bit and it's back in action.
If AT&T won't do the warranty swap, Samsung will directly-- although that's a little more of a hassle. Good luck!

The card and the slot contacts, if you can get at them.
Also, you said the card is cut and in an adapter - maybe it's just not quite lining up with the slot pins. Try it with the card not quite fully pushed into the slot.

Maybe it's time to punt and flash stock 2.3.5 with factory reset.

Yep was able to backup and flash stock from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348. still same no sim, I cleaned the SIM and the slot, even tried with some compressed air nothing all the same... I guess I`ll go to ATT store, do they usually replace phones on the spot ? I`m used to going to apple store where they just replace it... This really sucks !
I don't know if this will help, but have you tried manually inputting the APN for whatever carrier SIM you have at the moment? It's worth a shot
Edit: and are they LTE SIMS?

I would do that, but when I go to mobile networks I can't get to setting, it's says Insert sim to change mobile network settings.
The SIMs worked fine before yesterday. 1 is ATT lte 1 is not, but again it says no sim inserted.
Baseband says kj2?

My brother has the HTC One S and I have a quick question.
I cut my SIM card and it's going in with no problem at all.
Thing is, the phone dosen't read the SIM card but it reads my T-Mobile SIM card.
Doe's the phone need to be unlocked or what?
Nope....I've been having simple mobile for a while now and all I did was cut the sim insert it in the phone and changed the apn and it worked right away. You don't have to unlock or root the phone for it to work. Maybe u cut too much of it

Mind telling me the exact APN settings you put?
Make sure you cutted it right. I cut it myself too, but somehow I messed it up, so I had to request a new simcard. You could always try with an other phone offcourse.
I messed up the SIM card by cutting it the wrong way.
I got a pro to cut it and it worked.
Today I wanted to insert a data sim in first slot but it was not going down. Thinking that there the sim is old. So I went to provider office and bought a new data sim. I inserted the sim without any obstruction but the device is not detecting the sim. I found that there are scratches on one lower end of sim terminals but there are no signs of scratches on the other end. Meaning that the device terminals are not attaching the sim terminals.
Any help would be much appreciated. I can't approach even the service center even if it is present.

I think you should trace the problem and go step by step here.
Since you are using the 1st slot then I am assuming you have a micro sim here.
A good first move would be inserting your friend's sim in the phone. If the sim works, then it could be possible that your sim got damaged for some reason.
If both are still not working, then you need to check for the carrier.
Maybe the phone is not fully unlocked, which means it will not work with some carriers.
Hope that helps

Thanks for coming for help.
The sim is working fine in another phone.
Secondly the same phone was having good data connection with the same carrier.
I think there is a problem in the terminals inside the slot. It has dislodged??

What you are talking about? This was posted before the other post you have seen. I am the best keeper of any phone. But this was very unfortunate. I was inserting sim into the sim one tray. It was not going. So I left it. It was an old sim which was cut. I didn't use much force. Then I went and got a new sim and tried again. It went but was no more detected. I took it to the shop, from where I bought it. They sent it to Huawei center. They returned the phone saying that the inside terminals have broken. You have to pay 400 dollars. I refused to pay as I am not insane to do that.
It means that it is very delicate inside. Broken with a mild force.
Now I am using it with sim 2 only.

Recently my signal has dropped completely, and my phone will state that there is No SIM card detected. A few hours later sometimes I'll get a full 4G signal, and the error will go away. I thought it was merely a bad SIM card, so I flashed a clean stock ROM and went to the Verizon store and got a new SIM card. However, today the issue resurfaced, and I am now 6+ hours with "No SIM".
I've flashed new firmware, and even done a full RUU. Even when using the stock ROM I still get the "No SIM" message.

The day before I went to the Verizon store and swapped out SIM cards. Interestingly enough, when I walked into the store the SIM was detected, and the phone worked fine. I swapped the SIM anyways. The phone worked great for about 12 hours until the SIM pooped out again, and now it hasn't worked since. I might see if I can stop by the store again, since I already did another RUU and running stock.
*Update*
Just got back from the VZW store. New SIM card, and presto. Works like a charm....but for how long?
The tech said that it is likely a hardware issue, and suggests a replacement phone under warranty.
I suppose I now have to research how to do the true S-On factory reset process.

Do you hope I don't need the guide? Or hope I don't need to go through a warranty replacement?
If I get a factory replaced M8, the threat of toasting another SIM card goes away and I get a new phone.
However, I'll loose S-Off, and might have to try my luck with Sunshine, unless there's another method out there that has surfaced in the past year or so.
So far in this week my M8 has "fried" two separate SIM cards. I'm using a third right now after my second trip to the VZW store, and I'm eying my phone frequently, expecting to see the dreaded "No SIM Card" error once again. (going on 20 hours strong now under very very light use) However, it has the tenancy to die at the worst possible time, like calling for a ride from the airport. I haven't seen anything in any forums about this happening that is related to any setting, ROM, etc. I am leaning on the side that it is indeed hardware related.
I'm open ears as to anything I've overlooked, or any suggestions on how to avoid another SIM failure. For the time being, I might just use it until it kills my 3rd SIM card and go for a warranty replacement.

I know I'm late on this one, but had the same issue.
All I did was pull the sim, clean it with a qtip and alcohol and blew out the sim slot with a can of compressed air.
6 months later, no problem.
