Hi Everyone.
I have the Star S7589 and it works great but the GPS is the worst I've used on any device.
I'm in the UK and the phone is rooted.
How can I fix the GPS please?

You can try this app ----> https://play.google.com/store/apps/...le&utm_medium=organic&utm_term=gps+fix+deluxe

That was the first app I tried. Still takes forever to get a fix and lock.
Is there a GPS config fix that I can place at the system root ?
Automatic way this app ---->

Manual way this page ----> forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1659426
I hope i help you

Tried the above (manual way) and it made a big difference. The Phone took about 30 seconds to get a lock (much slower than my iphone) but once locked, it was very good.
Shame there's no compass (that I can find) on this phone because it would make it complete.
Hope this thread helps someone else to fix GPS issues on their China imported devices.
GPS
go to 'Location access' click GPS satelite
check all boxes..
click EPO settings..check 'Auto Download'
click 'Download' at bottom..
there's no point to use 3rd party appl..
we are difference from 'Normal' phone..
but sometimes its slow locking gps..
normally i off gps and on again or i will repeat the step above..:good:

Hi all, is it only me having difficulty locking on GPS? I tried stock, leaked gb, bionix and eagleblood but no lock. It shows 5 or more available sats but it won't lock.
Any help is appreciated.

No, definitely not just you. There's something definitely off about the GPS driver in this phone. If you use an app like GPS Status or GPS Test, you'll see that the signal-to-noise ratios are all lots higher than they should be; whether that has a direct effect on TTFF (time to first fix), I don't know, but it's certainly indicative that the interface isn't right. It's also clear that it's not using the AGPS the way it's supposed to; it should load the ephemeris data and give essentially a hot fix (<15 seconds) every time, but I only get a warm fix (75-120 seconds) if it's been long enough for the ephemeris data from the satellites to have expired (~4 hours) since the last time I used the GPS. It also happens that occasionally I won't get a fix at all, but generally rebooting allows it to get a fix quickly.
I don't know whether it will help or not, but you could try fiddling with some of the GPS system parameters via the hidden menu (dial 1809#*999# and find "GPS Test").
I'm hoping that this is one of the things that will be fixes when we get the Gingerbread/bug-fix update, but I don't have any basis for that hope.

Other than stock, which would lock super fast for me, I have had the best results with the Ultimate rom. The first lock took about 2-3 minutes but since then it has been fairly quick. Could just be dumb luck though lol.

With mine, the notification icon won't even show. Also, the 1809#*999# still gives me acore FC. Maybe someone else has this issue and can help.

You need to copy hiddenmenu.apk and two others to /system/app! It's there in one of the GPS fix threads on Development section! Search for it!
Thanks.
Looking...
Update: found the one you said but still i cant get the gps icon to come out.

Was talking about the FC when dialing 1809#*999#! That should be fixed once you put the apks in /system/app! From there you can run hiddenmenu -> GPS Test -> Start button and see if that brings up your GPS icon!

This may sound crazy, but download and give "GPS AIDS" (I know dumb name) from the market.
That app (even the free version of it) has helped every phone that I've ever had GPS issues with. The comments for that app speak for itself too.
Give it a try before buying to make sure that it is compatible with your phone first. Best of luck...

The setup always fails for me. The two files it needs to download don't download; the light is red for both and it says the file failed. I'm running CM7 so maybe that's the problem, but it just is not working at all.

Download fasterfix from market & after installing choose the area it should then lock in 30 sec, if not then report back we can give you hardware fix to get gps working.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.Double.FasterFix&hl=en
You will need your phone to be rooted to make this work else only hardware fix will work.
Previously i also experienced this problem... But when i updated to ddkp3 i have gps lock in less than 10 sec of minimum 5 sats

Hi, i'm from Argentina and we have officialy Froyo (UBKB1).
With this FW I had problems with GPS and I did compile possible solutions:
* Install another firmware: XXKB3 (Froyo), XXKPE/KPH/KPM (Ginger);
* Install apps:
GPS Aids (http://forum.xda-dev...6&highlight=GPS)
GPS Booster
GPS optimisation
GPS Status
* Modify the file gps.conf (this would be for aGPS)
* Trya different configurations in the LbsTestMode (Froyo: *#*#3214789650#*#*), http://forum.xda-dev...0&highlight=GPS , http://forum.xda-dev...6&highlight=GPS
* To add a piece of aluminium paper http://forum.xda-dev...4&postcount=142
* To calibrate the GPS: conect to WiFi, try to fix GPS; disconect and reconect 5 or more times http://forum.xda-dev...4&highlight=GPS
Well, i tried all that possibilities without changing FW.
The way that works for me (without change my FW) is:
I start the Lbstestmode, "Test Application";,then "Performance test" and the GPS gets locked right the way. Then i start the GPS app that I need (Gmaps, Navigation, etc).
Important: It can see a lot of satellites but with those under 20dBHz don't lock and need at least 3 of them.
Hope it would be any help to others.

Hi all,
I have a Desire S and am very happy with it. But recently I have GPS problems.
Since I have this device I never ever had any problem with the GPS. A fix within a few seconds. The GPS of the phone had a fix faster and more stable than my Garmin I use for geocaching.
I have installed c:geo and GPS Status from the beginning. And I did not add any 'strange' programs, no games.
But since a few weeks the phone it takes a long time to get a fix. Even in an open terrain, so no trees or buildings. And when it can determine it's location it is very unstable. The phone even has trouble to determine it's location by the mobile network.
I have Android 2.3.5 and HTC sence 3.0 and softwareversion 2.10.401.8
Can anyone help me with this one? It drives me crazy....
TIA, Peter
I can only advice you to install Faster Fix from the market. It changes the GPS configuration for faster fixing. It worked for me but there are also other GPS optimization tips all over the forum, though I can't give you a specific one.

I had GPS problems on my DS as well, googled a bit, and found out you can change the GPS config file.
First use FasterFix, and select your location to where ever you is closest to you, then google "ntp pool" enter the website and choose a region from the right hand side. Use Root Explorer to go to your /System/etc location. Open gpsconf, and type in the "server 0.europe.pool.ntp.org" text. It will change on where you are located. Mine was Europe thats why there is ".europe.pool"
Hope i helped you out man. Peace.
Thanks guys. I will try your suggestions.
Althought I still don't understand why my phone has these GPS problems. Just out of the blue...
I had major problems with GPS fix for several days, until I made a "compass calibration" through GPS status program. A reboot might do the same, but I'm not sure.

Hi all,
I did a hard reset of device and restored the factory defaults. As I did not change a lot on the device this was not a very big issue for me.
But after this the problems are gone. My device now has a fix within a few seconds.
Kind regards,
Peter

If it has a custom ROM on it that is probably your problem.
Most, if not all custom ROMs have their GPS set to USA.
Download FasterFix and use that to set your servers to the correct region.

Hi Lads!
I'm experiencing problems with my HTC sensation. I've installed newest ROM and gapps from Albinoman887 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2524961). My GPS works just fine if I'm using WiFi or data network, unfortunately I don't have an internet plan so I can only use WiFi when in range. No matter how long I would wait google maps (I've saved offline map) or Garmin/TomTom wont connect with GPS. I've tried to connect it in not urbanised area, were i wasn't surrounded by building or high trees.I was switching between 'device only' and 'assited with WiFi and network data' but since I don't have internet connection I think it makes no difference. I had this problem as well on - cm-10.1-20130610-Albinoman887-pyramid , but as I had internet plan wasn't bothered about that. Did you face similar problem ? Would you know how to fix that issue ?
Phone spec:
HTC Sensation
Android:4.4.2
Baseband ver: 11.69A.3504.00P_11.23..3504.07_M2
Kernel ver: [email protected]ox#1 Sat Jan 18 10:34:02 EST 2014
CyanogenMod ver: cm_pyramid-userdebug 4.4.2 KOT49H 39f88656cd test-keys
here it goes again...
Hi Lads,
I would like to add, that RIL is definitely correct (checked by getRIL app)
i have also amend GPS config files, I can't paste the content of the file, as it contains links to outside sources and I'm new user so I'm attaching configuration file.
unfortunately , nothing has changed
I've got an idea but i might be very stupid (please forgive me my ignorance), but I thought that as GPS was working fine on the stock ROM
maybe I could get it and export files responsible for managing GPS (radio files??) and swap them with existing ones on my system ? Or maybe its not worth ? what do you think lads ? I really hope you can help me out with my problem
best regards
Tom

Hi, thanks for you advice, i've cleared factory reset, partition cache, dalvik and installed Banks Gapps form http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2012857, unfortunately I still can't use offline GPS
lil update
i have downloaded GPS Status, and i can't localize any satellites - even with internet connection - but at the same time google maps are working fine (but not sure, if they are using my routers localization or my GPS), running out of ideas how to set it up
Might be totally ridiculous, but do you have Location enabled? Check under Settings. Forgive me if you already have that enabled.

Hi, thanks for your reply, yeah, location is on , im switching between 'device only' and 'hight accuracy' but since i dont have wifi connection (except home which doesnt make much usage for GPS,unless testing) neither internet plan my (data connection is off) i don't think it makes any difference.
Lads, i still didnt figure out how to fix it, did you experienced similar problems with your devices ? how can i check to be sure that my GPS is def. working ? (it worried me, that while using GPS status i didnt see any satellites and couldn't get my geo. position )
Lads,
Almost 1,3k views and no advice
Please help me
Did you try another ROm like UniRom??? or the new Carbon ROM...
It will be better i think
why don't you download an app from google play sensor tester and see if your gps is working okey? maybe you have hw problem :/
Hi,
Thanks for your advice.
I had it already, as well i downloaded GPS Status (seems to be a bit better than sensor tester). I went out today and GPS Status caught 5 satellites, but couldn't determine my position , after that i've switched to g.maps and after a while, my position on the map was ... my home's address (that's were i used internet for the last time) - two streets from where I was standing, so after that I've switched again to GPS Status and within next 15 minutes couldn't catch any satellites. Have no idea how to fix it....
Hi lads,
So...i fixed it
I'm kinda ashamed after posting so much stuff earlier on, as the problem was with the hardware (had nothing to do with ROM/Kernel/RIL whatsoever), i only realized today (mostly cause I wanted to 'boost' the antenna) but the pin connectors with antenna were bent...yeah....really....i just stuck a small piece of an aluminium foil.
Below is screenshot form GPS Status - form inside my gaff - phone is placed against the window.
