I have a rooted razr maxx hd, and I received an upgrade notification last week. I used OTA rootkeeper to secure my root, and then upgraded to the latest OS. Once it upgraded, I used OTA rootkeeper to reinstate root.
I have had nothing but problems with the latest update. My phone freezes at least twice a day.
What can I do to fix this?

But how can I install a new ROM when I have the latest OS, which doesn't have root. Can I install safestrap on the latest OS and still go back to the previous OS? Or do I need to fastboot back to the old rom unrooted, then install safestrap, then install a rooted rom?

You said you reinstated root no? Update your super su binaries then install safestrap app and recovery. You can't go back to anything on the latest ota. what I'm suggesting is starting over with a fresh install of a new rom or a stock rom using safestrap. Your original install would remain untouched.

I tried to use Safestrap and tried two different roms, but they failed to install. Now my phone won't restart at all, seems bricked. What can I do?
I have tried using safe strap with multiple roms. One of them installed but wouldn't recognize my sd card. Another just made my phone freeze.
The one I really want to install is is just 4.1.1 with root, but every version of that I've tried to install immediately fails. Don't know if I'm just finding flawed files, or if it's something I'm doing.
What are my options at this point?

4.1.1 is not a rom, it is an ota... Im not sure what you are trying to do, but if you are on 4.1.2 OTA and kept root(restored root) and have safestrap installed you are good. There is no way to go back or downgrade to ICS with this latest OTA(4.1.2) yet. Once you are in safestrap I would create a back up of you stock slot, just hit boot options and make sure stock Rom is highlighted(it will also say Rom Slot: stock in red on top). Once that is done create a rom slot by going through boot options, rom-slot-1 and choose the size partition you want and then create rom slot. You can then restore the back up of stock slot you made before, just make sure you are on rom slot 1. Then wipe cache/dalvik/system/data, which are the top 4 options. Now you can install any rom which should be on your external sd card. There are some that are not daily drivers yet with things that are broken, but there are also fully functional ones. There are a couple other forums which have several roms that are only posted on those respective forums. You just have to look around.

I have done all of the above. I have 4.1.2 and saved and restored root. I have also installed safestrap. The problem I'm having is that every ROM I've tried to install is flawed (e.g. doesn't recognize my SD card, won't boot past splash screen). I really just want to go back to 4.1.1 OTA + root, which I found in the XDA development folder. But when I try to load it in safestrap using one of the rom slots, I just get an error. I've tried multiple versions, same result.
Is there anything I can do?

Like I said 4.1.1 is not a rom, it is a firmware and the file you are trying to install is a firmware upgrade. That post was for the jb leak, so you can download it when on ICS and upgrade to it while keeping root. To keep root you follow the steps in that post. Since you are rooted and on 4.1.2 now, you cannot go back to 4.1.1 on your stock slot. And there is no reason to try to flash a rom slot with a firmware upgrade because it will not work. So your phones main firmware is now 4.1.2 which can not be changed back to 4.1.1. If you need to sbf you will have to use the sbf file for 4.1.2 and that will restore your phone to stock 4.1.2 only and you will loose root for good. Or at least until there is a way to root on this latest ota which may not be for a while.
If you want a rom, it will say [Rom] in that title. Batakang, Inflicted HD and wWidow HD which are posted on this forum all work with no problems. Most of the others have either mounting(sd card), camera or something not working. And like I said there are some more out there on other forums that are fully functional as well, search... All of these roms are based off either ICS, or JB 4.1.1 and will work in safestrap on any rom slot except stock even though you have 4.1.2 on stock slot. Now if you are saying that even flashing roms which are listed as fully functional gives you an error then you are either doing something wrong, or have done something wrong when rooting.
Also if you created any rom slots, just delete them so you can start over. Create rom slot 1 and restore your back up of stock slot to it and wipe all 4 i listed above before installing the rom.

I'm on ota 4.1.2 + root with no problem at all, no longer lag with the stock launcher also.
At first the ota upgrade from 4.1.1 to 4.1.2 was failed, so i used the utility 1.1 to go back to stock 4.0.4, root, install voodoo ota, temp unroot, upgrade, restore root..
Hope it helps

You need to update to 4.1.2 using that factory fastboot files and then root again. I did the same and it made a noticeable difference in how my phone ran. I'll get you the windows link to the files. If you run Linux I'll have to upload what I've put together. Its based on mattlgroff HD utility but updates you to 4.1.2 and roots it.
Link for fastboot files. Install rsdlite and the moto drivers if in windows.

Do the files in that link include a fastboot that is ALREADY rooted? If not, how do I go about rooting once I install?

I followed your directions precisely, but once I used the fastboot files, the phone was NO LONGER rooted. How do I get root on 4.1.2? Your post gave the impression that if I installed the files you included, the phone should immediately be rooted.

did you figure it out?
rooted, unlocked, using the latest safestrap (3.12 i think) and ive tried EVERYTHING to get this to work.
Flashed multiple roms and all that ever happens is the bootloader splash screen shows, then a permanent black screen until i hard reset back into recovery and info the unsafe rom. WTF is going on. i've followed all instructions thus far and i've been screwed time and time again. suggestions?
If your bootloader is unlocked you shouldn't be using safestrap. Remove it an flash cwm or twrp. Then flash away.

New to this phone, coming from rzr max. Like it says above I Rooted using the rockmymoto method. Then tried to enter stock recovery (just figured it would be good to know how) powered off then back on by holding the pwr+vol- buttons. Once in fastboot or whatever I select recovery and hit the volume up button and phone just reboots. No matter what I selected it just reboots. May not be a big deal was just curious if I was the only one.

Install SafeStrap v3.65..far more useful..complete system backup, multiple slots for different setups, change your complete system layout in a matter a few minutes, and a reboot..SafeStrap takes over your stock recovery..you'll never use or need stock recovery again with SafeStrap..without SS..a device is very limited..ofcourse Root and SafeStrap is a must have with anyone that wants function and performance and testing ability..
Anyhow..do a search for recovery..you will find your answer(s)..

rockmymoto removes recovery which is why you can't boot into it.
SS doesn't replace stock recovery you need stock recovery to take an update. SS just allowsbyou to flash zips and make backups and ROM slots.
OK I already have SS and I am pretty familiar with it since I was running it on my rzr max but if I recall correctly I could still get into factory recovery by using fastboot on the rzr but can't on the maxx. Guess rockmymoto removed it. Anyways thanks for the replies!

I have a motorola droid 2 that I flashed a custom boot animation. I then tried to flash cyanogen rom (cant remember which one) on my phone, I made sure to follow the steps closely when it came to creating the clockworks recovery. After rebooting the phone and pressing X+Power button I proceeding to flash the rom.
After it finished I reboot the phone again but this time I noticed the boot animation seemed was playing really slowly and if i was lucky then I would get to the android logo but it would get stuck there. Most of the time though the boot animation would loop and it would still play really slowly.
I tried wiping the cache, and when I go to the wipe data option it also says factory reset next to it (wipe data/factory reset) but when I open the option all i see is two (No) options and the (Wipe data) option. No factory reset option. I also tried flashing the current sbf file (2.3.3) with the current rsd lite (5.6) but it would work. The flash would be successful but when the phone booted nothings changed.
I also tried booting the phone in fastboot but apparently it doesnt have one, and I cant load CWM recovery for some reason.
My phones been like this for months and I'm all out of options. Any information you guys might have would be greatly appreciated.
Which system version on phone? 4.5.629?

you need to re-flash firmware.
safe choice is ezSBF 2.3.4/ 4.5.629

Try the data wipe in android recovery first.

I do have a problem sometimes booting into recovery or restarting recovery while plugged into a power source. the xt926 will just get stuck either on the duel core logo or just stay on a black background. when I unplug the power source the recovery boots up normally.
Which isn't a big problem though everything else seems to be working great.

It works well.

Thank you. this thing was awesome. Used Matt's Droid Utility 1.4 to wipe from Cyanogen 11 to the Offical KK and then this for SuperSU and Titanium backup. whole thing didn't take an hour

It won't work unless you have the new bootloader from stock KK.
I upgraded to the latest KitKat stock and have an itch to flash some of the custom Roms out there, but to my knowledge I think I would have to downgrade back to the old boot loader along with an older recovery in order to flash the older Roms.
Can anyone confirm?
For some reason this wont work on my xt926, it loops the Motorola boot logo forever.
Thanks anyway, DH. Going back to CWM for now.
