USB Host Diagnostics determines your device's USB host capabilities.
USB host is a very powerful feature of recent Android based smartphones and tablets, but on many firmwares (both stock and custom) the feature is somewhat broken.
For example, at launch the Galaxy Nexus told all the apps and the Market that it supported USB host, but USB host did not actually work (this was fixed in the Android 4.0.2 update). This broke several apps.
That is just one example of many. There are even cases where OEMs advertise USB host support, but the device does not support it at all. It appears as if USB host support isn't tested by Google or the OEMs when they push out new firmwares and devices at all.
As we cannot depend on Google or the OEMs to correctly provide information regarding USB host support, and the Android framework will regularly lie about it to both the Market as well as Android apps, this application was created so you can test your device's USB host capabilities for yourself.
If you allow it, the app will also submit your results to my website, so together we can create a complete database of devices and firmwares and their USB host support.
This tool may also come in handy for those porting firmwares.
Requirements:
- Android 2.3.1 or newer
- (Optional) Root
- USB OTG cable (unless your device has a fullsize USB port)
- USB memory stick, or another USB device to test the connection with
The result database is available here:
http://usbhost.chainfire.eu/
The download can be found on Market here:
http://pkg.to/eu.chainfire.usbhostdiagnostics
It is also attached: DO NOT REDISTRIBUTE
(v1.2: 9284)
Changelog for v1.3:
- Detects some common issues with firmwares that can cause apps to be unable to use USB host, and if you are rooted, offers to (try to) fix the problem
- Gives you a unique code that can be used to locate your result, if uploaded to server
- Added option to follow me
- Fixed some more crashes
- Disabled rooted API for Jelly Bean and newer
- API 14 and higher get Holo look now

Try my StickMount app from the Market, it's actually for the G.Nexus. Your build just doesn't have automounting and such enabled... doesn't mean USB host isn't working

Sweet that works!! Detects FAT32 SD cards but didnt detect NTFS USB stick.
Is that something the CM9 devs can change to enable it by default?

For NTFS the right module has to be loaded... ntfs-3g, from the top of my head. Automounting should also be fixable, several devices do it, but I have no idea where it would be configured.

No on all device detection checks on galaxys2 on CM9 alpha, the rest were fine.
Nice job with the app works nice on xoom
installation fails on rooted Samsung GT-S5360 (galaxy Y).
great APK, anyhow !
no usb support on tbolt running eternity latest nightly
Great utility and it works great to jump start DSLR controller on ISC.
Cheers, gonna provide results soon. Any chance for a similar app checking for MHL (USB-to-HDMI) compatibility? Thanks anyway!
I noticed that some docks for Xperia phones have a full-size USB port that they say is for USB accessories. The dock with my Xperia PLAY 4G (R800at) only passes microUSB and audio, but I'll get the adapter and try anyway. With built-in gaming controls, I doubt I'll *need* USB host support anytime soon, but it will be nice to know!
So desire HD no this functionality not eaven app can fix this?
wanna know what HTC said about this?
any chance that xbox360 controller could work ? or usb mouse >?
*** REQUIRES ROOT PERMISSIONS ***
*** NOT COMPATIBLE WITH ANDROID 4.2 ***
BlueCtrl is an open source Bluetooth input device emulator that can control remote devices. This means that you can use the touchscreen and keyboard of your Android device to control other devices which support Bluetooth.
Because this app is using the Bluetooth input standard, it supports various operating systems without any special server software. It has been successfully tested with the following systems:
Android
iOS
Linux (Fedora, Ubuntu...)
Mac OS X
PlayStation 3
Windows
Please note that if you want to use this app with Microsoft Windows, you probably need to disable a conflicting Android service. For more information look at:
https://github.com/RonsDev/BlueCtrl/wiki/Bluetooth-input-service-conflict
This app requires root permissions because it needs direct access to the Bluetooth adapter. Another restriction is that it is only compatible with a specific Bluetooth stack that is called BlueZ, which is used on many but not all devices with a Android version smaller 4.2.
What's new
New system specific touchpad gestures
The gestures are now optimized for the chosen remote device system. Linux and Windows systems also got a new setting for the gesture mode. So, for example, if you are using Windows 8 you can configure the appropriate gesture mode to enable the special Windows 8 edge gestures.
New interactive touchpad tutorial
The interactive tutorial will explain all gestures for the current system and can be activated via the menu.
New menu item for composing text
This is especially helpful if you want to write a longer text because you can keep your eyes on the device and see what you write and it also allows you to correct the text before it is send.
Voice input can be corrected before sending
Voice input will be displayed in a edit box before it is send so that you are able to correct misinterpreted words.
New "Stay awake" setting
This setting prevents that the device is going into standby and disconnects the connection. To save some energy the screen will however be dimmed after 30 seconds of inactivity.
New "Scroll sensitivity" setting
You can long press the keyboard button to change the input method

Hey,
This app sounds great, running a rooted SGS2 running XXLPB ICS (4.0.3). Have installed and all appears fine, trying to manipulate my PS3 with it nothing happens... Does it only work for custom OSs on PS3? or does it work with the standard PS3 'XMB'?
Cheers
P.s. I realise that I have used a very large amount of acronyms... many apologies, but I estimate to have saved myself a small age in not writing them all out!
Works well ! Thanks for this apk.
I try it with another android device and it runs.

Could you send me the log message of the error?
What IDE do you use to build this app? I'm new to Android and so far I've just used Eclipse. In your source code I didn't see gen folder with R class.
I also met problem when connecting two devices (two Android phones). after paring, I pressed "connect" button then I received a message "Connection refused. The remote device is busy or the devices aren't correctly paired".
Is there a phase to enter the key used to pair two devices? If yes, I didn't see that phase.

The app is build with the Ant build tool on the command line (see the README) but I use Eclipse to develop the Java code. The gen folder will be automatically generated if you build the project.

Before you press the “connect” button you should wait a little until the other device shows that the devices are paired (sometimes the “connect” button is enabled too early because Android reports that the devices are paired even if the pairing process hasn't finished yet). Before that you should normally see a pairing request dialog or notification where you enter or confirm the key.
Thaks alot
Out of all the applications o the market yours is the only one that works on all systems. If you want to post a donation version on the android market I'll gladly donate to help you improve your work.

Have you seen the "More information" part on the "Add device" screen and followed the instructions?
2 finger swipe left worked for the Android Home
And I got connected to my iOS device but no pointer (not your fault, **** iOS fault). Thanks man, really helped me with my Mac, great app!
Btstack
hi guys! great app! I wish I could use it! lol Actually... just tried it on my macbook pro... works great!
Okay so you say it can connect to iOS but no pointer? But the BTstack tweak in cydia is supposed to solve that issue.
However I can't connect to my ipad 2. here's what I sent to the developer of BTstack mouse:
"Hi, I've tried to find a solution for a while now, but to no avail. I go to connect the mouse and it just sits on the "mouse selector" page.
I have an ipad 2 (wifi only) (not the ipad2,4 either) jailbroken ios 5.1.1
Everytime I try to pair. it wont. Then the app blacks out and freezes my ipad. I'm then forced to do a hard reboot."
now... your app warns me that another Bluetooth input service is active on my device T-MOBILE HTC G2 cyanogen mod 7.
I click the link to read more info, but it doesn't really help me out. I would love an answer. maybe a how-to only have one bluetooth input service running on the G2 at a time? I really want to use my phone as a mouse, I already have an apple wireless keyboard that I use with my ipad a lot and would love the addition of a mouse. (I'm currently NOT trying to pair both at the same time.. fyi)
So if someone could help me out, this could be a big step in bridging the gap between ios and android and getting them to actually play nice together.
Thank you for your time!
Hi I had a g2 and I kinda have a ipad 2 and it worked flawlessly. What works is don't try to connect them from outside the app.
And if you need more in-depth help just ask

I REALLY want to use helium to make few backups :/
its rooted, and in usb debugging (if i remember correctly).
Samsung offers a feature with these laptops called sidesync. Not sure if it would work for you since you most likely have to initiate the pairing with the phone itself.

Requirements:
Android 4.2+ (NOTE: Emulators are NOT supported and unlikely to work on anything below 4.2!)
PS4 setup correctly for remoteplay http://manuals.playstation.net/document/gb/psvita/ps4link/viainternet.html
Install Instructions:
Download APK.
Copy to device and install or use the adb command "adb install <apk>'' from your PC.
Done!
Dualshock OTG Setup Instructions:
Attach dualshock 4 to device using OTG cable
Ensure you can navigate around device using controller
Launch remoteplay - a dialog should appear asking for USB permission, click OK.
Proceed to start Remote Play, once connected you should be able to control your PS4 using the attached Dualshock 4 controller.
Dualshock Bluetooth Setup Instructions:
Download and Install Sixaxis Controller App
Follow in-app instructions for pairing your controller.
In the sixaxis app preferences ensure 'Enable Gamepad' is checked under 'Gamepad Settings'
Edit mappings in the sixaxis app so that x = A, circle = B, square = X, triangle = Y
Load up remote play app and play!
Known Issues
Although the WiFi restriction has been removed connections over mobile data tend to result in a black screen, nothing I can do about this as it's likely due to the protocol Remote Play uses.
Sixaxis doesn't map the action buttons correctly, see bluetooth instructions above to fix this.

Outstanding work!
You are a god! Thanks so much for this, it's working awesome.
Working great on my rooted Z3 Compact thanks so much!!!
Sorry for double posting
I figured it would be better to put this on this thread since it is focusing on the 1.0 version:
"Great job with this. I have a non-rooted Note 4 with OTG connection to my DS4 on remote play. The controller works now with this, but my only issue is that the button mapping is all over the place. Using the accessibility options on the ps4 doesnt seem to be changing anything since the buttons are still responding the same way for some reason. Any way around this without root (i want to root but unfortunately verizon thinks otherwise). "

This will be due to incorrect key mappings in your android keymap files, I don't believe there is a way to fix that without root when using the controller over OTG, correct mappings can be found here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/general/root-dualshock-4-correct-keymaps-t2817223
EDIT:
Also worth mentioning that currently the button remapping on the PS4 is only for the controller not remoteplay.
Great work! One small donation headed your way!
Works great on the shield tablet with controller.

Just tried bluetooth with the same results, it keeps thinking X is O and Square is X, etc basically all buttons are all over the place. In version 0.7.4, this mapping worked almost perfectly which is confusing as to why it is not now

Confirmed to be working perfectly on my Nvidia Shield Portable. Was able to set both resolution and frame rate to "High" and it ran smooth. Awesome work and thank you!

I am assuming you mean with SixAxis... I meant without it. Turn off Sixaxis and sync it.
1. Turn controller off
2. On your android go to Bluetooth settings and set it to search
3. push and hold the share and PS buttons on your controller
4. wait for it to show up on the phone and pair it.
As long as you are not using one of the near launch controllers (IE old ones with bad thumb sticks too) it should sync right up.

Hi, i need to have the remote control of my Lenovo tablet (now there is"LC" firmware changed).
I noticed that through Teamviewer, even if I installed a proper add-on for Lenovo, my tablet is listed in my devices list and when you try to connect it the connection is aborted.
I don't know why.
I tried to use Logmein but it seems that you can't access an Android device.
Something else or trick is good acceptable!!!
Thanks...
