I'm sure this has been covered before but none of my forum searches come up with anything, Since my tab knows where it is is there any way to get the system to automatically update the time zone.? I'm rooted so anything requiring root access is fine. Sorry if this has been beaten to death.
Thanks

Doesn't merely setting 'use network time' do the trick?
No. I thought it would but it doesn't. Every time I go on a trip across TZs I have to manually change the time zone. My Infinity is WiFi only if that makes any diff.

According to a quick Google search, this has to do with the lack of a cellular radio. Automatic timezone detection is done via cellular signal.
I realize this but since the tablet knows where it is located, either by GPS or Google services it seems like it should be an easy task to change the time zone automatically. Surely someone has made an app for this.

funny thing is my Asus time/weather widget updates TZ automatically but the system time doesn't. Obviously GPS will do the trick but for some reason it's not baked into the OS just the widget.
I thought one of the smart development could figure out a way to mod this into the rom.

I ended up using Clock Sync - seems to do the trick.
Thanks I installed Clock Sync and it seems to do what I want. I have yet to cross a time zone so not sure how of will work. I set of up to use the GPS and the rooted option for auto time updates. Here's hope'n. Thank you again.

I have not tried the GPS option - just the wifi option. It has (so far) selected the right time-zone from hotels around NA about every other week.
I have the update interval set to every 3 hrs - so I sometimes need to force a sync when I get to the hotel.
Thanks for the info. The option I'm trying is using Geo position for setting timezone. I don't know if is using GPS or not. Maybe just using Google services for position.

So i just got my new pad and have been playing with it, closing, opening apps, and web browsing. I have found the tablet to be sluggish opening apps or responding to keyboard input in chrome. I didnt recieve any update when i first turned it on. Is there anything i can do?

What software version are you running? Did you click on check for update in the about section?

You are not on Power Saving mode, are you?
Power Saving mode saves battery but makes whole process stutter especially opening application you can see frames stutter and wish you had Buttery smooth Jelly bean there. But on balanced mode, I don't notice any and not sure if Jelly bean would do anything there... as it is already so smooth.
But as far as browser, if you have many applications running behind that may cause keyboard input delay. If not, recommend Cold reboot.

No matter what might go wrong in life the absolute very first thing I wish for is buttery smooth jelly bean. Just last week I was complaining about the price of gas and it made me wish for buttery smooth jelly bean.
I made sure im in high performance mode and checked the updates. Im running build # 9.4.5.22 with android version 4.0.3.its just discouraging since my galaxy nexus is so smooth. Im hoping a good rom comes out soon

I have the same problem as you as well as others. I'm on the updated firmware and am incredibly disappointed. I've been supporting Android since it was first released and absolutely love my Nexus phone. I've had a few Android tabs and they have all been lacking. I finally did something I swore that I would never do and used an iPad. I really didn't like it except that it operated so smooth and didn't crash. I ran out and bought this tab as I hoped it would work better so I could ditch the iPad. Unfortunately, my infinity lags when loading pages and Gmail, crashes when watching movies and Gmail, and refuses to open desktop version of websites. I am going to wipe and reload one more time and if it doesn't work, I will have to send it back. I really really want this tab to work.

You want to update to .26, tablet is so much better after update
Huh, after updating I thought this was the only non_lag android tablet I've used besides the Nexus 7 which is even faster. I've also not had force closes and the Primes browsing was ruined by that. Of course it has other issues because that's how Asus rolls.

no. mine came with .21 and i wasn't getting .26 OTA. you download it from the ASUS site, unzip it and put the resultant zip on the root of an sdcard. slot the sdcard in and you'll get an item in notification that there's an update available. bam.
search the forum for detailed instructions.
THAT SAID - although .26 is MUCH better than .21 IME, i still have performance issues with the 700. not so much that it's sluggish - but that the digitizer just stops accepting input periodically. it's definitely a software problem and it's definitely frustrating. haven't sussed out any culprits yet.
doody.

Apparently, dolphin is a bigger botnet than chrome. And that's saying something.

By botnet do you mean the tracking? I mean, we are on Android, it exists for Google to increase their ad information capabilities. It is what it is.
I don't use their sync service, and I don't like their regular browser at all but the new Dolphin beta is pretty amazing. It might be the fastest mobile browser I've ever tried.

How do I get the shortcut in the app drawer with having to go into mycloud?
Or is it even worth it, and just install the current market version splashtop?
One thing to remember - with the current Free version of Splashtop 2, they started charging a monthly fee to connect "over the internet". So if you use that feature and don't want to start paying for it, stick with the original Splashtop version....

Say what?! What does that mean..."connect over the internet"? I've been using the mycloud for the past 3 weeks, have't got any notifications of a charge. Is this going to kick in when I lest expect it?
No, you are fine as long as you are using the "MyCloud" version. When they released Splashtop V2, they started charging a monthly fee for the ability to connect to a machine "over the internet" (you can actually use Splashtop to remotely control another PC over the internet) - that same function is available for free in the "MyCloud" version and all of the V1 versions.

I found the Splashtop HD v 1.9.8.4 and am using this one. The one in mycloud is HD version 1.0.?.? The latest non version 2 is 1.9.9.8 I think. I removed the Asus version since it was older and no direct link in the app drawer.

I've tried v 1.9.8.4 and the HD display on the TF700 is too small for me.
Seems like the lose of a lot of display space on the tablet.
I've played with the display settings & only the computer I was linking to changed.
Actually there is a way to cheat the whole internet connection thing, as opposed to same Wi-Fi network. I did this with my htc sensation, but it doesn't matter which phone you use as long as it has vpn and Wi-Fi hotspot. I have my router at home which has built in vpn with dd-wrt, but you can set this up with any of your computer's, you just have to make sure you are port forwarded properly. You can setup an incoming vpn connection using Windows 7, as its built-in is quit easy to use. Once you are setup with vpn ,connect to your home network 1st, then connect to your phone's Wi-Fi hotspot, then connect with splash. Splash will see the rest of your home network because of the vpn connection, and will connect no problem.
I'm out of town till Friday but if ne one needs help with this, i can put up more detailed instructions, this is probably not for the inexperienced.

While I appreciate the info, it's alot easier to just stick with V1!

I agree to a point, i already had vpn setup, so it was easy for me. The vpn is actually pretty easy to setup and once done, you will not have to do it again.

So I should ask, what are the key differences between V1 and the later versions? Not much beats Free access, but if the features in later versions are that much better, I've got to consider the options

New questions for splashtop....
How to get the Win7 screen to fill my tablet screen?
EDIT:
I found it in the settings of splashtop but not many choices. One thing I noticed is the "Asus" version does fit to screen better than the market version. But neither really fill the screen
so last night i was riding in a car and needed to take some notes, popped open my tablet with the keyboard because it was a bumpy road and figured using my fingers on the screen would be hopeless to get the amount of information as quickly as it needed to get put down.. so i tried two different tablet apps i had installed (no internet at the time to find others) and both wouldn't let me use the keyboard to take notes... both wanted stylus/finger mode only... I also tried to use google drive but it wouldn't let me create anything new in offline mode.
any options here folks that one can think of? im not really interested in installing 1000+ notepad apps on the market to find one via brute testing..
thanks.

Hey All,
I'm new to this tablet but not Android. I did search but didn't find much.
While watching videos, the sound drops every couple of minutes for 5 or so seconds. I have tried the stock player, MX player and RockPlayer2. Ive tried hardware and software decoding. All of them act the same. These are .mp4 videos that play fine on my Note2.
I am unrooted and stock, although I was planning on rooting.
Any ideas of how to fix this?
Thanks!

No, I've never heard of nor encountered this issue.
Try shutting everything else that's running in the background down. Games, browsers and the like. (Under settings --> Apps --> Running)
Maybe it happens when something triggers the notification sound? Like email or something. Maybe the system lessens the sound in anticipation of the notification sound activating regardless of whether it was muted or set to the lowest setting. Just a thought.

Trust me on this.... 99.9% of all issues on 700 are the rom malfunctioning....
Install cleanrom inheritance 2.7 ...u will have no sound issues....

Check to see if you have mail checking going on in the background. When I changed to manual checking rather than push mail or scheduled polling, I stopped seeing the issue. If it isn't mail, see if you have a newsreader or something similar running.

So I updated to 4.2.1 on the US SKU (auto update, not manual) and the DMC Client keeps crashing. It will do it at random times and then mostly when I want to check or updates or use the Unlock Tool (which BTW does not work for me). I really want to root. I know the steps, this is my second pad (RMAd the old one)... Any suggestions?
