Hey guys, long time follower if these forums. I have an unlocked inspire that keeps shutting the phone off everytime the flash is used on the camera. Has anyone else experienced this, if so is there any sort of fix for this?

Probably a bad battery. The flash LEDs use a ton of current. If you've got a weak cell, it might be manifesting itself during high current draw, but seem otherwise OK. How's battery life overall?
My wife's phone's battery had a similar issue, but hers would just die when the level got down to about 75% indicated. Got a $12 ebay replacement (genuine HTC) and fixed it right up.
Well it is actually my girlfriends. She actually has no other issue with it other than that. I don't think the battery life is that bad to be honest. I think ill go with the replacement battery and see how that works out. I appreciate the help man.

At&t should give you a free one. That's what they did for me.

I've noticed that when I take a picture with my inspire 4g, with the flash turned on, the entire phone shuts down right away, but when it's turned into automatic, it works fine, has anyone else has this problem, or know of a solution?

Need a few more details. What ROM, mods, etc. Folks here like to help, but we need to know what you may have modded on the phone.
I'm running stock 2.3.3, rooted, but no custom roms.

That's odd. I have never heard of that on a stock ROM. But maybe someone else here has. Good Luck
You have a bad or shorted flash led.

I can use other apps that use the flash, like tazer, and flashlight...

You should try wiping everything and installing a custom Rom or a rooted stock Rom and see if problem persists, could be a software issue. There are plenty of stock rooted gb Roms buried a few pages back in dev forum.
Check my sig. Stock roms. There is a rooted gingerbread PD98img, stock. I think it's the 3rd one, iirc.
With the phone plugged into the charger take a pic with flash on and see if your phone resets. Could be a battery issue.

It worked fine when plugged into the charger, should I get a new battery?

That would be my recommendation. If you knew someone with another inspire you could try their battery. Actually your battery should be under warranty. If your phone is stock looking then you could probably take it to an ATT store and let them check it out and get 1 for free. Or even a call to 611 ATT support might get you a new battery for free. Just tell them it won't hold a charge and the flash causes your phone to reboot and you tried a friends battery and it fixed the issue. ATT has very understanding customer support.
It definitely sounds like a battery issue. I had a very similar issue. My phone would shut off at random times, and one thing that caused it was the camera flash. I picked up a new HTC battery on eBay for like $14, and it runs like a dream! If you cant fork over the money for the HTC brand battery, there are lots of cheaper chinese batteries for like $2 a piece. They would be good to just test and see if the battery is the issue if you cant find a buddy that could let you use a battery for troubleshooting, before you buy an HTC battery.
Absolutely! the same thing happened to me a few weeks ago. A new battery solved the issue. If you have a warranty/protection plan call up At&T and they'll take it from there.
Man, I love forums! I was just having this problem this week! I guess my brutal punishment to my battery over Winter break has cost me (I was running the phone down to 0% multiple times a day). Time to get a new battery.

Digging into the problem
I was going crazy with this problem! I wonder now what is the problem with the battery, because mine it seems like it keeps current like a good battery. Does anyoane has any "hardware-electrical" explanation?
Anyway, at least I have one solution and I am partially happy with it.

I'm assuming when you say it "keeps current" you have been using a current widget. The camera flash puts a heavy load on the battery. On an older battery, it may look like it's fine at idle or doing simple tasks, but it can no longer handle the tough tasks.
Hello there,
I noticed that my battery really doesn't last long. It's been 100% full and now, 4 1/2 hours later, there are only 6% left. The weird thing about that is that I did not really used it during that time. WLAN has been turned on over that time, display was really dark, no backlight notifications or anything. Has anyone any idea how to fix this? (LG P940)

Would be really awesome! Android version is 4.2.2, battery has about 1500mah (think it's 1540) and I'm using the cyanogenmod kernel. Do you need any more information?

Thats not really much of a battery for the hardware,.. how old is it? Is this a recent problem, and when did you flash to CyanogenMod ?
To me it sounds like something is draining the battery pretty hard. Is the Wi-fi signal stable? Any processes under Apps>All, using excessive memory?
To me it sounds like you are having wifi/gps/bluetooth on all time, and if not, you should close ALL apps next time. Some running apps on your background could even drown your battery from 100% to 0% in less than 2 hours. Big apps or games cause the most trouble

If this phone/battery is more than one and half year old, this could be just battery dying, like mine (LG P920, 2 years old, 1500mAh) is dying right now.
It can't last more than 6 hours lately, so i bought a new one.
A li-ion battery (standard models) just can handle frome 300 to 500 charging cycles, thus if tou charge your phone every day, battery life has about 18 months lifetime.
After, it just dies, more or less slowly.
Thank you all so far.
Bought the phone 1/2 year ago so this can't really be the problem. The battery has never been great but got worse about a month ago. I flashed it about 2 weeks ago and this didn't seem to influence the battery.
I always keep GPS and Bluetooth turned off (only turning GPS on when I go running, but I never noticed that this influences the battery either) and Wi-fi is pretty stable. As I heard that Wi-fi is really bad for the battery I tried turning it off as much as possible and so far it seems a bit better.
I also took a look at how much memory the apps use and saw that Facebook, Kingsoft Office and Whatsapp really need a lot. I think I will uninstall Facebook and KS Office then and see if this helps.

I presume you bought it new ("and sealed")?
Maps used to be a big problem for me running in the background. See which apps use Maps.
Yep, I got it completely new.
Okay, I'll check that, thanks.

Also problem with battery
I had a similar problem, my battery got "sick" after I used my phone as a GPS during 2 or 3 days. the phone was quit warm during the navigation. After that The battery life was reduced from around a day to 9-10 hours. In addition when battery is around 20%, the phone just shut down due low-battery and as soon I turn it on, as soon it turns off!
The solution was to buy a new battery, but that is odd that using the phone as GPS navigator damages the battery so badly!
Btw, my phone is a HTC desire w/ Android 4.2
yah now i may be able to help you, download the antutu battery saver app from google (it requires root) it is a really good app and helped he last
my battery from 3 hrs to 7 1/2 hrs. if you don't have root access, then it is a prob. if you don't have, tell me and i will give you another solution which
does not require root
Thanks man, I just installed it, will write tomorrow how useful this App is.

Seems like my phone shuts off every time I turn off the screen. Doesn't shut down when plugged in or when I'm using the phone... I'm using Domination ROM 100% supercharged. Any input on the cause would be greatly appreciated! I have a log cat but I don't seem to see a attachment button!!

I recently had an issue like this. My phone would randomly shut down. I found it persisted across ROMs so I knew it wasn't that. It ended up being my battery. Bought one off of Amazon and it has been like new ever since.
So my answer .. check the battery if you can. I was lucky enough to know some one with the same phone and was able to swap batteries for a bit to confirm it.
Take the battery and place it on something flat. If it spins easily (swollen). That's a good sign that it is on the way out.
Yeah... the battery seems a tad swollen! Thank you!!

Even the best batteries can go bad. I've even seen the iPhone split apart from a bad battery swelling up inside.
I've been using an Andida(?) 2300 mAh battery in my GS4G without issue. My HTC G1 has pretty much only been used with random eBay batteries (as the original HTC battery swelled up and stopped working years ago).
I've had some cheap batteries last a long time, and I've had OEM batteries crap out on me.
It's all kinda random.
So... About six and a half hours ago decide to check out that Xylon Ultimatum ROM (still haven't bought a new battery) was runnin P.A.C. All In One, and my phone has not shut off once. over 6 hours now! Could that have been a ROM issue? i thought for sure it was battery cause i been using that P.A.C. ROM for awhile now. and it just started this shutting off thing. i havn't seen anyone post anything with this issue running PAC All In One.
I'm thinking my battery is all good! It's been over 24 hours now and the battery is holding a great charge! Could the pac rom have that issue?
i messed with my voltages with SETCPU app the same way i did with the PAC ROM, and my phone shut off the first time i shut off screen! i subtracted 25 to 50 on all MHz levels. i changed them back and everything seems proper! could this be the cause of my shut down issue???
Thank you!!

OK well I got this Hyperion 7500 mah extended battery for my Samsung galaxy s4 a couple days ago and everything is almost perfect on it. The only thing that I have a problem with is the fact that is continues to disconnect my from my WiFi all the time at random times. it also blocks a lot of my mobile data to. I get little to no service with it in. Is there any way that anyone could help me out with this one. I really just don't want to return just yet.
