I've just finished putting the last touches on the Sapphire Hacking Wiki available at:
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking
I urge any new users to read it to help them get started.
I urge any advanced users to read it and help us keep it up to date!
This is a generic Hacking guide for any Sapphire handset - ie. HTC Magic, Vodafone Magic, Rogers HTC Magic, Google ION, even the TMobile MyTouch 3G.
If a moderator could sticky this it would be appreciated.
Looks great man, thanks so much for your hard work =D
+1 Sticky
Hey Radix,
Fantastic effort! I really wish this had been available a few weeks ago when I first got my handset and was trawling through hundreds of posts for info. This should definatly be made a sticky at the very very top...
Cheers
Ben
Yeah, this was partially why I wrote it - everything was so scattered knowledgewise and I kept seeing people flashing roms with no clue and wondering why it wouldn't boot, etc.
My blogs have had quite a few followers and people commenting that this is what they needed, so thought I'd try and braindump everything that I'd learnt over the last month and a half into the wiki and try and put it into some kind of order
Nice one, thread stuck
Dave
Already added some stuff a couple of days ago
Great work
Excellent work
Now if someone is kind enough to write about swap and how to use it .
I wish I read your ultimate guide first before buy my 'Perfected SPL' Magic hahaha..
Excelent work, thanks !!
.dhy
this is professional work.
thanks a lot for sharing.. really...
In section 8.4 I think its have to be
Fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Sorry for my english
Hi,
Please add http://jimcortez.com/blog/?p=37 to the USB tethering. No root require.
i tried with both ION rom and Hero rom on Vodafone magic Aus
Thanks for both of your suggestions - I've made the changes you've both suggested.
Unfortunately I've had to split the wiki into two pages due to issues with the xda wiki server and it's maximum file upload limit. I've reported it, but meh - splitting it is easier for now.
I would like to point out that if you see something in the wiki that is wrong - simply edit it yourself - that's the whole point of a Wiki!
There's an edit link at the bottom of the page and your existing xda-forums account gives you permission to edit it.
The more people with specific domain knowledge we have editing it, the better it will be.
Thanks a lot. Excelent work.
for section6, How to Restore a Nandroid Backup - how to recover from a bad rom install
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=HTC_Sapphire_Hacking_2#sec06
I have tried the latest Recovery image by Amon_RA which you can find here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=530492
and the Nandroid v2.1.1 restore function does not need a security-off SPL.
I can backup/restore smoothly by boot to recovery mode and simply choose the appropriate option without flash my SPL.

hi
i am a new magic learner, just read your wiki, many thanks for your hard work.
i found if there had a mistake about :"Perfect" SPL Revisions (that prevent us hacking)
Currently HBOOT-1.33.2006 and HBOOT-1.33.0010 are the known 'Perfect SPL' revisions on the Sapphire handsets that we know of.
in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=529019,Haykuro quote : "T-Mobile myTouch : 1.33.0006 and 1.33.0010 is the dreaded "perfected" SPL".
This means that it's currently not possible to run "fastboot boot image" on these SPL's, so don't try to flash them.
I just got the magic SPL:1.33.0006 (SAPP20000)
Could u tell me which should be the right one.
If my magic could flash a new rom?
many thanks
BOTH 1.33.0006 AND 1.33.0010 are perfect SPL, so you can't flash them yet.
I thought it is hacking wifi
Good info for noob like me.

Thanks
I found the wiki had been revised.
Nice wiki / guide, helped me out when I thought I'd bricked my phone
Could do with a matrix of roms / features though so people know which roms have which features.
Just a simple table with features across the top (HTC keyboard / multitouch / exchange support / working wifi etc etc ) and roms down the side... just a suggestion anyway.
Good work
I have Verizon version of Touch Pro2, have few questions.
1. I have installed Mighty Rom after doing Hard SPL, but didnt upgrade Radio. Do I need to upgrade Radio? My current Radio Version is 1.88.07WV
2. How do I change the contact view? Currently they appear as Last Name, First Name. How do I change it to First Name, Last Name.
3. Does FM Radio work on Verizon version?
I may sound n00b but please help me

To answer your questions in the order asked....
1) No you do not have to upgrade your radio...I didn't and have been flashing roms for over a year on the TP2 with no issues.
2) Use trinfix. It removes duplicate contacts and other items, but it also has an option to change the contact view to "First Name, Last Name" (Cab is attached) Make sure that you have the “.NET 3.5 CF” on your mobile phone.
3) The answer is absolutely not. The radio hardware is not there on the Verizon Touch Pro 2.
Hope this helps.
hey thanks a lot. i have fixed the contacts view issue n thanks for the other issues as well.
Glad I could help.
Hi guys. Had this idea for a while. There are a lot of people joining xda on daily basis, and there are a lot of repetitive questions being asked which fill up Development threads. Point them here.
First thing first. I strongly advise you to read THIS thread before posting ANYTHING on XDA.
Then, have a quick look at the links at the bottom of this post. You might find what you need right away.
Third. Even if you do get your question answered, please, do come back and read the links in this post to educate yourself. You'll be surprised how much time and frustration it will save you in the future.
ASK ANY QUESTION HERE,adb, drivers, superCID etc...... You will either get an answer or will get pointed in the right direction.
No abuse towards noobs or silly questions is tolerated here!

There is no way you can FAQ everything and to keep FAQ up to date is pain in the ass. Treat this thread as a chat.
Why wouldn't you SuperCID?
I put a question in the firmware/partition thread yesterday, still no answer so I'll kick off by asking it again.
I see a lot of people getting trouble with their CID when installing firmware, and the firmware package is constantly updated with new CID's, however it seems prudent to become SuperCID anyway.
Is there a reason for not wanting SuperCID? From my understanding it's just a "label" in the phone, so it doesn't affect signal strength / how good your radio works etc. So it seems weird to want to avoid SuperCID. Am I right?
The only reason I can think of is in case of warranty returns or so. But why are so many (with a working device) trying to install firmware with their original CID then?
I hope someone understands my question.

Thanks for offering to help. I am seeing a trend here that questions are simply ignored. I am a beginner in this 'root' thing. Though I successfully rooted my previous phone HTC Desire.
I had asked a query in the following thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1436663 but nobody has answered it.
I will be obliged if you could kindly answer my question. TIA!

Yes you are right, If you want to go back to S-on sometime (which you'll only want in case of warranty returns), you'll need official firmware/hboot. However, S-on is a dangerous process, people have bricked their devices doing it.
The official firmware from that thread can be used for other purposes as well (If you're phone works better, you can switch to stock ROM/firmware and leave it S-off), but if you're not having troubles, I see no need to do that.
Also, you can make a NANDroid backup of your phone after you have rooted/S-off/CWM, so switching to Stock ROM won't be a problem.
For now, I wholeheartedly recommend Custom ROMs with the appropriate firmware.

S-on goes wrong if you do it on rooted phone only by the looks of it. Although, any of this nodding businessis potentially dangerous, all you can do is to learn as much as you can to minimise possibility of a brick.

Do you mean can you replace the launcher with something that is different/more compact?
You can always try a different desktop launcher like Go Launcher or ADW but you will lose your ability to use Sense widgets. I don't know of anyone that has modified Sense Launcher to allow folders.
I don't want other launchers - sense stock is good, but I need something other for all programs menu - actually i've found AppFolders.
I just want to remap action on left button to app folder, for example. Is it possible in sense?

Cyanogen updates are like Fight Club.
Rule number 1. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
Rule number 2. You don't talk about Cyanogen updates.
That aside.....CM9 is being worked on. That's the only update there is. It'll get here when it gets here. (And yeah...I'm drooling with anticipation too and it drives me bonkers that I have no idea when we'll get to see it But that's the way Cyanogen rolls.)

The thing is, we don't need a new thread for every question anyone ever might have. That's what the guides and search function are for.
Hey all, I'm new here, but I've been lurking for a few days in all boards relating to WP7.8, etc.
I really do hesitate when I make this thread, because I know a lot of other people have already asked how to do this,
HOWEVER! I can't seem to pull together all of the information I need- the trail seems to go cold after a while,
I have an HTC Arrive (Gold C) on Sprint, With Mango & SPL 4.3
What I am trying to do is get to a point where I can install a 7.8 custom ROM, or simply, I'm trying to get HSPL (which, if I'm correct, requires me to downgrade to NoDo?)
After reading, it looks like the solution to my problem is to use Ansar's NoDo RUU for the Arrive, then, use the Dark Forces Team HSPL Loader to load HSPL onto my Arrive, and then finally, install a ROM like leadpoizon's Custom 7.8 ROM.
I'm pretty tech savvy, but as far as mobile devices go, the hardest thing I've ever had to do was jailbreak a few iPods, and install CFWs on PSPs.
I will openly admit, just putting this information together has been a confusing painus in the anus for me.
My problem is thus - I haven't been able to do any of this because Ansar's NoDo RUU (and, as it would seem, the rest of his RapidShare files) are all down because his bandwidth on RS ran out.
Does anybody have a copy of the NoDo RUU for the Arrive that they'd be willing to upload?
I'd be suuuper appreciative...
Thanks for your time and patience with my utter-noobliness.
I'll be sure to make a proper introductory post later, but I've got work and I'm out of time.

Thanks so much, for the welcome and for your help!
That's exactly what I've been looking for, I never checked out that link because the thread was titled with Gold, not Arrive, GoldC, etc...
I hope this thread helps someone like me out!
EDIT:
Where does the RUU installer place all of the files? o.o
Nevermind, got it! Everything works great on leadpoizon's ROM, aside from the HTC Hub tile, which I didn't care for to start with.
Thanks again.
:good:
HTC Arrive
I, too, am having the same problem as the original poster. Except now, the link to the thread we are being sent to is now not working. Any information will be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Does this process also work for the HTC Pro7 T7576? This is the GSM version of the device where the Arrive is the CDMA one.
