[Q] Phone power button derped. randomly goes off. - Verizon Samsung Galaxy S III

I am on jelly bean's build and want to get back to stock because I fear my phone may be on its last legs and I can't send it to verizon in this state. When I try to go into recovery mode so I can restore it, it just hangs and stops. I have to then take out the battery and when I put it back in it turns on(and usually tries to go back into recovery mode). When it is in download mode so I can just odin back to stock it turns off when I plug in the cable. I have a feeling something is wrong with the power button, because sometimes it doesnt do anything when I press it but acts like i long pressed it after a few seconds of not touching it. And when i turn the screen off with the power button, it turns back on after about a second. every time. I don't know what to do! can anybody help me?! Thank you in advance!

[Q] Power button issue resulting in boot loop

I'm having a bit of an issue with my S3. It started yesterday when my power button became more or less permanently pressed in. It can't be used to wake up or lock the phone, and the power menu would continually pop up. While this was annoying, I figured it wouldn't be a major deal, and I would reflash stock and take my phone to verizon. I went to boot into recovery in order to make a back up...and now I'm stuck. Since the power button is permanently pressed in, the phone can't boot into recovery (I'm pretty sure if you just keep holding down the power button when trying to boot into recovery it will just turn off the phone again since this is what seems like is happening). So now I'm just stuck in a loop where my phone can't do anything except attempt to boot into recovery and then turn off. No matter what way I try to turn the phone on, it will only try and boot into recovery (and fail) now.
So what are my solutions? Can I try and open up the phone and fix the power button? Is that extremely difficult? Is there a way I can flash my phone back to stock in its current state and take it back to verizon? Should I just take it as is and hope they help me? I'm at a loss here.

[Q] Power button...stuck?

So my GS3 has been fine up until about an hour ago. It looks like the power button is somehow stuck to "on," as in, the button acts like it's always being pressed.
The physical button isn't stuck down. It clicks just fine. Here is my problem, I'm rooted with a custom recovery. I can't get into download mode to odin back to stock. whenever I press vol up to go into download mode it immediately reboots or boots the phone up.
Am I completely hosed here? If I take the battery out and put it back in it immediately powers up(hence why the power button is stuck in "on"). Also, another factor proving that the power button is always triggered as if held down is I can pop the battery in and just press vol down and home and it will launch into the initial download mode screen(press vol up to continue).
EDIT: I want to odin back to stock in order to send it in for warranty replacement.

I literally had the exact same problem yesterday and today. What I did was unscrewed the little screws holding the back plate on and this gave me more access to the power button. I popped the plastic cover of the power button off with my fingernail and proceeded to lightly press and jiggle it. This allowed for it to work temporarily which gave me time to odin back to stock and now my phone is being replaced under warranty.
Best of luck!
Have you tried massaging the button back and forth to try to loosen it? It might be easier than removing the screws to access it more. (If it works)
Literally just started happening to me yesterday also. Not quite to that extent, it randomly clicks on and the power menu jumps up over everything I do, but maybe I should return to stock before it does get stuck down. Either of you use the ZeroLemon 7000 ma/h battery and case?

[Q] [Q} Broken Power Button, Phone won't go into Recovery or Download Mode

The power button on my phone recently has stopped working. I need to get it warrantied, but I am running CM 10.2. I need to Odin back to stock, but I can not get into Download Mode or the recovery. When I go into Download mode, the initial screen pops up, the one where you choose to hit up to continue, or down to reboot normally. After I hit up, the screen goes black and nothing happens.
I really need to get back to stock, as Bestbuy are being dicks, and demanding I do a factory reset before they send my phone in.
Anything? I still need help on this.

This has been covered at least 10 times in the past few months we need a sticky. Take your battery out hold your phone so the power button is facing a table or floor and slam that side a few times it should work again (Temporary). You might need to hit it on the surface really hard 10-20 times before it works. Just not to hard or else you might crack the screen. I used a mouse pad to soften the impact. This trick no longer works for me so I ripped the button off. After about a month of doing this I needed to use things that would only hit the button to make it work. About a month after that nothing worked so I just took it off the motherboard and now boot from a off state by plugging into the wall and enter odin mode deny the prompt and it kicks me into a workable state.

I can get into the system just fine. When I go into the recovery or download mode, it doesn't stay in that mode. I tried the banging thing, and it made my power button go from intermittently working, to not working at all.
keep doing it until it works. The button is sticking that is why it reboots/stopped working.

It sounds like your power button is physically broken, and it is activating intermittently, which is stopping the phone from entering download mode. My only experience with this problem is my own phone but ultimately mine got so bad that I had to rip the button off the motherboard, as ThePagel did. Your symptoms sound the same as mine.
You can try this procedure to get into recovery, which works for me without a power button. You will probably have the same problem you are having now with the phone rebooting on its own before you actually get into recovery, because the power button is activating.
1. Take the battery out of the phone and unplug it from USB power.
2. Plug in USB power.
3. While holding down the volume-down button and the Home button, insert the battery (this is a little tricky).
4. The phone should start and warn you that you are entering Download mode. If you want to use Odin to return to stock, do that now.
5. If you want to get into Recovery instead, press Volume Down to reboot and then *immediately* push and hold Volume Up and Home simultaneously. The phone should reboot into recovery. Mine does.
If that doesn't work, and you can't get a new phone without returning it to stock, then prying the power button off the phone's motherboard may be your only solution.

[Q] Odd Galaxy S3 Power Issues

I honesty don't know how to describe my problem so I guess I will just tell you whats happening and what I know about my phone.
My phone:
Unlocked Verizon Galaxy S3 running CM for recovery, and CyanogenMod 10 for the ROM (Updated with Odin from Jelly Bean).
The issue:
1) Whenever I press the power button the phone completely shuts off. It doesn't just go to the lock screen, it turns off.
2) The phone will not always turn back on.
3) 85% of the time when it doesn't turn on, it boots into the first splash screen and turns off.
4) When I try to put the phone into download or recovery mode the first screen will pop up for about two seconds and then the phone will turn off again. The phone will either shut down on the cancel/download screen for download mode or the first splash screen with the blue text at the top for recovery mode.
5) The other 15% of the time it will reach the CyanogenMod screen, freeze, then shut off.
6) When I put it on the charger, the stock charging icon pops up but then the phone stops charging and shuts off. (It will charge correctly some times)
These things don't just happen if I press the power button. I used a custom app to turn the phone off without the power button and the problems still occurred.
Things I've tried:
1) Replacing the battery.
2) Switching chargers.
3) Leaving the phone on the charger for a while.
4) Taking the battery out for extended amounts of time.
5) Just leaving the phone alone for a while.
No, the power button isn't stuck... I don't think it is
I am aware that the motherboard might need replaced. However, most of the cases I read about involved the phone not turning on/charging at all. If I could get the phone into recovery mode I would clear the cache and see if that worked, if not I would just factory reset the phone. If I could get into download mode, I would flash a stock firmware and be done with it.
This is my second android phone and I've never had this problem before. I did my experimenting with my old Motorola Droid so I could make sure I knew what was safe with my S3 but apparently there is something wrong.
I greatly appreciate any and all help and please do help me
[EDIT #1]
I began hitting the power button against a hard surface and 1 out of 7 times it works. Perhaps the button is stuck.
[EDIT #2]
I am now able to press the power button without the phone turning off. I will still make a back up and sync all of my important media and prepare to have to factory reset and flash a new ROM.

Is my phone bricked? Can I unbrick it?

Hi!
My phone's got a problem.
If I press the power button it's going to start, but keep to stay in loop in the startup animation until the battery is over. And it goes in overheat... it's almost impossible to keep your hand over the phone for more than 1 minute.
If I try to charge it, is going to repeat, until the battery goes over again.
If I try to switch it off keeping down the power button, it actually reboot after 20 seconds, but nothing else happen.
If I try to start pressing the VOL - button and the power button (if I can go in recovery mode every problem is solved, I've already got a new rom to install) but nothing happen, and the animation loop starts again 'til battery drain.
Can I do anything or do I have to throw it in the trash bin?
Thanks!
