[Q] Infinity cannot turn on. - Asus Transformer TF700

Hi guys,
I have a problem with my Asus TF700.
The following is my problem at the moment.
1) TF700 is dead.
2) TF700 cannot be charged nor connected through PC
3) No light in the LED indicator beside the power button. (NO GREEN NO ORANGE)
4) My Charger works fine but TF700 does not.
5) Tried Power Button for 1Min+ , Power + Volume UP , POwer + Volume Down. Nothing works.
6) My Tablet is unlocked. "Voided" Warranty.
What should I do?
Should I bite the bullet and send it in anyways?
Would they know if my bootloader is unlocked??
I had so many problems before hand, I am probably gonna get a different brand after infinity...
Thanks guys Let me know

If the light does not budge when its plugged in, and you cant even get it to boot, it is fried.
ASUS will know it is unlocked, how much they charge you to fix it is beyond me. You can find Infinities right now pretty cheap, about $375, and ASUS usually charges $400 to fix it, from what I have seen in the past.
The Infinity is a good tablet once unlocked. It will out perform any tablet out there ATM, except in i/o, but it cant be changed, and you will no longer have keyboard, second battery, SD slots. But in the end it is your choice.
Also, if you send it to ASUS, the information you give them, just tell them that the tablet was put to sleep and you cannot get it to turn on.

Although the charging indicator not lighting is a bad, bad omen you can still try and leave it hooked up to the charger overnight. That will not damage anything, but we've had a few people being able to boot their 700s the next morning (after a few tries, sometimes). If it does nothing after that go, and nothing lights and nothing boots nor connects to desktop.... well, as Tyolor, said: it's history. Either RMA or sell for parts.

FYI
When it charges on a PC USB port the 700 has to be turned off
I THINK the charging light does NOT come on when charging on the PC USB port (tell me if this is wrong please)

[Q] tablet wont power on without power cable

my tablet wont power on unless i plug in the power cable and hook it up to the power outlet. this happens at any battery charge level. i tried at >90% charge, at around 60% and when the tablet was at around 5% charge. the tablet just won't turn on unless i hook it up to the outlet no matter how long i keep the power button down. is this normal?
i have not done any modifications to the os. i am not rooted, no custom recovery. i am on ics 4.0.3 on the .21 patch.
my tablet has been rebooting every now and then like many of you have experienced.
today i lost sound completely. alarm clock would not ring, no sound in aps. i forgot to check if i had sound in pandora over headphones unfortunately. a reboot fixed this. did anyone experienced this?
"search" seems to be down so i could not find any similar problems to mine. this is why i opened this thread.
The loosing sound is a known ICS problem. A reboot will fix it.
As for your powering on problem. Once it come on after yo uplug in the charger cable, does the power button work normally? Does it shut the TF down when you push it? Could be a bad power button.
the power button works perfectly. i can shut down and wake up the screen from it when the tablet is powered on. if i hold down the power button when the tablet is turned it the shutdown menu pops up so i assume the button works fine.
something strange happens when the tablet is powered off. nobody reported this problem until now on the .21 patch?
How old is your tablet?
I think the battery is the issue.
Edit:
It could also be a hardware problem. Send it back to the shop and make them repair it.
Good luck!

i have no idea how old my tablet is. i bought it a week ago off cowboom during one of their fire sales. maybe i should just send it back.

Yes, it would be better to go back instead of struggling with it.

There was another thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1520844
Someone reported the same issue even after having the tablet back from RMA.
I'm experiencing the same issue and I don't know what to do, maybe this is just a firmware issue, but I don't know how to report it effectively to Asus.

maybe you need to reset it. Use the reset pin near the HDMI out.
If you have been using the supplied charger and cable.. I would say it is defective and to return it to the place of purchase.

How did you press the power button to turn it on? You have to hold the button for 3-5 seconds to power it up..
If you have the tablet properly charging it should light up steady orange, steady green means its full charged. If you have no lights while its plugged in the outlet then its most likely the charger.
I remember a thread on the Prime Forum on this were the charger contacts were not making correct contact and if you look at the housing of the charger you would see a slight gap. Pressing the charger unit back together fixed this issue for several users...

the TF700 went dead after 1 month...when charging, the power LED flashed twice and that's it!
Tried to reset by inserting a paper clip as advised above...no joy.
Any suggestions pls?
Even the docking mechanism went bust...no longer locks.
I'm tending to regret i went for ASUS rather than iPad...

[Q] Black screen after FW Upgrade, only vibrates.

Hello!
I just received my Infinity and started working on it, since there was a new Firmware available I downloaded and installed it.
When done it said "shutting down" and turned the Infinity off.
And this is were the trouble began .. since the last few hours I am trying to get it to work again but nothing seems to work.
Pressing the reset button with a paperclick won't work.
Volume down + Power only lets the Tablet vibrate after 10-12 seconds
Pressing power for 20 seconds (ASUS suggested this..) does the same thing.
with/without A/C Charger or docking station same thing, I get absolutely nothing on the screen.
When plugging it in via USB I get the APX mode.
Is there anything I can do at all? I don't want to send it back of course and thought APX Mode will maybe help me install and / fix something "blind" since I think the issue might be related to the Firmware upgrade..
Thanks in advance

I did try the button combinations, and for NVFlash it says: THIS REQUIRES A NON-BRICKED AND UNLOCKED DEVICE. IT WON'T WORK ON ALREADY BRICKED DEVICES
Well.. I think mine already could be bricked, and I can't unlock it by installing the apk
If pressing Volume Down +Power only give you a black screen and not even the Asus logo it means you are bricked (could also be a hw failure, who knows) ... APX mode is useless for your device. So if u can't manage to boot into recovery or in fastboot mode i would recommend you to start the RMA process.

Nope nothing, doesn't matter if I press up/down + power for how long all I get is a 1 second vibrate after 10-12 seconds, with or without the Volume keys.
Pad is charged, same with A/C, when I try without the LED next to the power doesn't even turn on
Pressing the reset with a paperclip won't work either as stated so I guess it really is a brick...
How can a official Firmware Upgrade brick a device? I'm not new to Android and already own 3 HTC's all rooted and stuff but I never came across something like this ..
A few Things you can still try to recover the Infinty
Dude, that absolutely SUCKS! I would be so disappointed / angry if I were in your position, especially having the tablet for a short time. It DOES sound like a hardware failure (video seems out, but it's almost as if the tablet is running dark, and you just have no video. Can you return it to the retailer you bought it from? That would be 1000% better than an RMA, which is another thing that Asus does extremely poorly (They use a 3rd Part servive out of Grapevine Texas, and in MOST cases it is a nightmare. I don't understand why you can't bring/send it back to the point of purchase. You are not requesting arefund, just exchange for defective tblet.
As a last resort, do this: RUN THE BATTERY FULLY DOWN. Do not put the charge on, and keep checking if the tablet is powered on (touch the power button quickly, like you are taking it out of sleep mode. This could take the better part of a full day/night, but if you run it until the battery fully discharges, I remember a Prime user that this saved the day. It certainly is worth the effort, considering the alternatives.
Once it fully runs down, plug in the charger, and it should power up / begin charging and you will know in two seconds if it worked cause that Asus Logo will be the greatest site you will have seen in some time.
Oh, and something you can try before beginning that long process: I know you have already tried most reset methods, but humor me and put a pin in the reset hole - by HDMI, but instead of just pressing it briefly, press and hold for a FULL 30 + seconds. Some swear this changes the parameters, thiugh I am doubrtfull. More significant was mention that while holding the microswitch in, there is a "draining" happening of the memory onboard. I half belive it because years ago, I had an old HP Jornada Pocket PC, and one of the recovery procedures was remove the backup battery, and wait some inutes for a drain of memory to occur. You could SEE the LCD fading, like losing contrast super slowly. When it went completely blank was whenI was instructed to re-power up.
So try the reset pinhole for 30+ seconds
failing that, try a full battery drain
failing that try to return to point of sale
failing that do a shudder RMA with Asus. (Reach out to Gary Key - his PM and Email are listed in these forums. That way at least you will have a point of contact, and he may provide you with others. Good luck I feel for ya, especially with JB almost upon us! :cyclops:

Your are not the only one, afaik other users bricked their devices just by updaing with official firmware. However i'm a bit confused about that "shutting down" message and iirc the device only does a "restart" when updating,it doesn't shutdown.
Hi!
Thanks for the long reply
I tried holding the reset for more than 30 seconds, as I thought it did not help.
Any Tipps on how to drain the battery if I can't even turn it on? It vibrates after 10 seconds but I don't think that will drain much of the battery..
As for the RMA:
I won't do it via ASUS, they told me to but hell no.
Bought it from Amazon and already contacted them, I'll send it back when I get the confirmation they won't do an ASUS RMA, if they do want I just get my money back and buy a new one lol. Either way it is faster than Asus..
/edit
I wondered about the shutdown too and even waited quite some time after it went black because I thought it would boot back again, but well.. it did not
Thanks again!

I will try to find the thread - but check in the Prime threads - search for screen black, no video etc. The guy(s) that did it said that they just kept turning it on.. or touching the power switch - I know that's not too detailed. Here's the thing: a vibrate is what the tablet does NORMALLY when powering up... I think your may be running, you just can't see it. The only clues you can get are from the LED in the power button. Green means something like 95% charged. Amber means less that 14% and blinking amber (with no power supply attached means it is within the last few percent - Those are ballpark figures, you can find the full LED color descriptions with a bit of searching. Anyway it is you only indicator so, finding out waht the colors mean might help you in the discharging process.

EDIT: JUST NOTICED you said this is from Amazon. If that's the case, you have no worries. Amazon replaces items faster/better than any other retailer. In fact Amazon will cross ship you a new one and you can return this after receiving the new one - at least that's how they did it with my TF101... two times. On the third exchange, they try to refund you and make you purchase it again, but I complained that it was not the SAME problem each time (this was on the docks) and they went ahead and sent me a 3rd one. Just go ahead and do that. You probably would be better off with a different one, but check it CAREFULLY for defects. I am convinced that these are near impossible for Asus to build without screwing up something - Screen separation (viewed from the edge), scratches, poor cutout/application of the Logo (My daughter actually bled from a cut it gave he -sharp edges) and the INFAMOUS Loose Screen, "Clicking" sound - squeeze the tablet gently all the way around. if it clicks or makes any grinding noises return it. For $500 any defect is unacceptable. Good luck!
Good idea. I also wondered about his state of charge while updating...

Thing is, even when it vibrates the LED is always off, only when I plug it in for charging it turns orange.
I will try the APX method Just plug it in to the PC and when the "can't find driver" message pops up it's in APX? Or do I have to install the drivers first?

You don't need the PC at all, just put it in APX mode and let it be. The led turns on only when you plug the charger.
Edit: btw, you will know if it's in APX mode because even if the screen is off the device will get warm.

Maybe that is why they pushed the release back. Because they found it was bricking devices, lol. That sucks, tho, man. Good thing you bought it recently enough to send it back with Amazon. I wouldn't even bother with anything else and just sent it back.
Maybe....you could see what's going on if you connected it to the TV/Monitor on the HDMI port....
Soo I'm back!
It is still vibrating, so the battery is not empty yet ;(
I thought about the HDMI too but I don't have a mini-HDMI adapter.
Anyway it is Saturday and I might send it back today ... although I am usually not giving up till I fix something I guess their might be nothing else left.

Ok another trick and it involves some luck. IF its on and you power it off you get a very, very short vibration (it's hard to feel it sometimes) and then you normally see a confirmation box appear in the middle of the screen asking you "Would you like to shut down?". Then you either tap Cancel or OK. Using your "minds eye" try to imagine where that box is on that black screen and tap it where you would to answer the question "OK". If you have any luck the damn thing will shut off and in ~8 seconds you'll feel a longer vibration indicating it turned off. Then DO NOT turn it on. Instead plug in the power adapter and let it power on and see if that puts your video back up.
I'm just wondering if the cable to the screen inside has popped off the main board. I know i've read about that happening but it usually occurs after a pretty good jolt to the unit.

[Q] Strange charging behavior

I'm running the latest and greatest CROMI X on my TF700 and I experience the occasional strange behavior when plugged in to the stock power supply. I have assumed that it was a faulty piece of hardware but am looking for other experience before I endure the trauma of returning the unit.
Firstly, I cannot charge it with the tablet off at all. When it's off and I plug in the power supply it boots the tablet. If I try to power down while plugged in, it simply reboots immediately.
Of greatest concern is that after plugging in sometimes I look at it a while later or even after overnight and will find it some peculiar state of being on and totally unresponsive and very hot. It appears that the screen is on but totally grey or perhaps the backlight (does it have one?) is lit. In this state, I can't power it off by holding the power button down and can only restart it with the power button/volume down combination.
Any help will be appreciated.

I'm running CROMI-X 4.6.4-10.6.1.15.3/US ODEX, Kernel version [email protected] #5.
Since posting have discovered that I can in fact power down when it's plugged into the charger. I'm feeling confident that this is a hardware fault with the plug/port. I don't know of course why the tablet goes in to the state I've described.
I am entirely reluctant to RMA the tablet as I am unlocked, rooted, etc. Have a Square Trade warranty, may pursue replacement that way. Dn't want to wake up to a burning tablet/house.
I think these chargers have issues. I'm rooted but locked and I can't charge the tablet with the power off at all unless I power it off after plugging it in also. I also have a problem about every other charge where my charger isn't being detected when I plug it in. I have to disconnect and reconnect the two parts of the charger for the tablet to detect it. I returned my first TF700 to Amazon the first week I had it because of this very same behavior and this one has it as well.

Right you first "issue" is 100% normal. This is how Asus have designed it to work currently. If the device is powered off and you plug it in it will boot. 100% of the time on every single transformer out there.
Your second issue sounds like the kernel is getting stuck but without a log it's hard to know. I've seen it happen to me and the easiest fix was to reflash the rom and kernel again which fixed it.

Cannot start or power on

Something really strange happened.
Yesterday, when i was using my tf700, everything was fine. i connected the tf700 to my computer and dragged couple movies in to watch later. Batter was around 30% so i plugged into a wall charge to charge so i can use later. after half an hour, went back and tried using it. it won't turn on! tried connecting it to my computer, my computer can't recognize it. Tried connecting to the wall charge, the charge light didn't turn orange. Tried using my tf300 cable to see if it's cable issue, still no luck. Tried using reset button on top of HDMI port, no luck. Tried volume down or volume up plus power to reboot, no luck. I think it's dead....Only had it for a year..
Worst of all, it's unlocked, rooted to a custom ROM. So no warranty. I tried googling and searching on XDA, not that many people encountered this issue. Any luck on saving it?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Thanks!!!

It looks like your battery on your device totally drain and either your charger or cable or your tab connector is bad so your device can't be charged. If you can narrow down the issue, then you can get helps faster.. Good luck...:fingers-crossed:

Same issue here. Just charged mine up(yes it charges), but it will not turn on. It had been sitting for a while so I assumed it just needed a charge. Fully charged until light went green. Tablet will not do anything.

You could give this a shot...
Hold both power button + volume up for about 10 seconds. You should feel a first vibration and continue holding them until you feel the second vibration. As soon as you feel the second vibration, you need to release the volume up button and keep holding the power button until you feel the third vibration and release the power button.. At this point, your device should boot into your system..
You may want to try a few times for it to work..good luck and please report back..:fingers-crossed:

Yeah I've tried that and the reset button, but get no vibrations. I guess I'll wait for the battery to full discharge again and then see if it will work. Otherwise I guess I'm SOL. No idea what happened.
I tried letting it sit unplugged for a couple of days to completely discharge the battery and then plugged it in to let it charge. No lights, no vibrations• nothing. I'm giving up ans just ordered a Samsung Note Tablet 10.1 2014 Edition, 32GB. When I get it I'll root it so I can use Titanium Backup to restore my data files. I never planned on this tablet just dying like this. It's only a little over a year old. I was thinking of upgrading to Asus's new TF701 but I'm done with them.
Good luck with yours. Hope it springs to life for you.

This is by far the worst Asus experience i ever had. I used to buy their products quite a bit, and i am completely disappointed in their products now. They create a tablet so slow that is almost usable so many users to need unlock and install custom ROMs. Therefore, void the warranty. Then provide such bad quality that it fails not even after 1 full year. (1 week till a year) Then is going to charge me $300 to have them fix it. I can buy a new one for that price.
Anybody out there as frustrated with Asus products as I am?
