Credit is under my post "CyanogenMod is awesome" and they are awesome, they do all the work and all the credits and donations go to them.
As for the download link, their cm download website has limited storage so the older ROMs roll off and they get reposted for PUBLIC access again and again. So credit goes to my good friend Google and to me for googleing the file name "cm-10.1-20130423-NIGHTLY-skyrocket.zip" and clicking the results. This is a community of people trying to lend a hand and help if they can.
This is the primary reason I didn't join XDA since day one ( God know since 2009-10) that I had a htc nexus, and galaxy s then ... now I727 because I've been reading XDA and didn't want to deal with people like you going around telling people to do this or don't do that. But I now realize if I can help, then I will, and I will abide to all the rules and regulations of the site.
But still if you think your point there is really important to taking up these thread space (which is limited as well) I suggest you go ahead and engrave it down in stone, and hang it on your room's wall.

No that is asking for trouble. Theoretically it could work if you wipe your cache only, and then flash but I don't recommend it at all.
If you're worried all your customizations, wallpapers, apps, ... will go away then follow these steps:
Go to CMW recovery
-Start with a full backup at CWM recovery.
-Format data, cahche, system, dalvik cache (Don't reboot)
-install UCMC1 radio
-install the CM10.1
-install the 20130301 gapps
-go to advanced restore (restore only the data portion of your backup). Only Now Reboot your phone.
-Let it sit for 10-15 minutes, then turn it off and on. and enjoy.
doing this will only take an extra 15-20 minutes depending on how much data you're backing up and restoring, but doing a dirty flash on top of flash ... who knows what happens next

Yup ... just wipe dalvik & cache first. No need to wipe data.

A usuable CM again

Reset Flash Counter working for AT&T/Rogers

In no way possible do I take credit for this, I just kinda jumped the gun =). Huge thanks to XDA member braway for making it possible and putting it all together to reset trip counter. Below link to dropbox (link provided by cdshepherd) currently working for both AT&T & Rogers. Rogers has been tested and confirmed working by XDA member dogblood (Don't forget to hit the thanks button for dogblood). Huge thanks to cdshepard as well in making the necessary changes to make it work for both versions of skyrockets.
New links provided by cdshepherd. Thank you to johnsondr80 and the collective for hosting these links for us.

Also here is braways paypal donation link. Show him some love please, again he gets all the credit for his hard work.
Donation link not working for some reason so just donate via paypal to [email protected]. Thanks!
Don't forget to hit the thank you button for both braway and cdshepard. I'm donating $5 to braway, I'm sure the rest of you can as well, JIG would cost a few bucks on ebay if available, but why not show some love to a fellow XDA member instead.
Thank you Ladies and Gents and enjoy!
+1 for sticky.

I used this myself, had counter at 3, flashed the att.zip file through CWM. Went into dl mode and seen that it was back at 0. So yes sir it definately works
It works but its not the right file for our skyrocket. I do have the correct file we need now, I'll post it up in the morning. I would wait until then.
@envy, when I get the zip tested I'll pm you the link and you can put it in the op of this thread. Assuming the thread hasn't been moved by morning

Morning fellas. Here is the link for the flash counter reset zip specifically for our skyrocket. All I did was pull the needed file off of a skyrocket that has never had the flash counter tripped, replaced the file in Braway's zip, and added a little something to the updater script. I flashed it on my phone just to make sure it wasn't a brick waiting to happen. But my flash counter is already at 0.
Need someone from att to flash this and see if it resets the counter.
I dunno if this will work for rogers, only tested on my att skyrocket
http://db.tt/uYhg8So7
Every last bit of credit for this goes to braway, he is the man with the plan guys, all I did was follow his directions. Thanks braway we all need to work the hell out of his thanks button
@envy, after someone test this, clean the op up and make darn sure to give all the credit to Braway. Also let everyone know its only for att right now, not tested on any other network.
If any rogers users out there that are rooted without ever tripping the counter, with adb access, we can prolly pull the correct files for you as well.
Also here is braways paypal donation link. Show him some love.

do this in adb shell
dd if=/dev/block/mmcblk0p2 of=/sdcard/mmcblk0p2.img
that will put mmcblk02.img on your sdcard, from there you can exit adb shell and do "adb pull /sdcard/mmcblk02" to pull the file off your sd card or you can just copy and paste it from your sdcard to your computer. just get me the file in what ever way you can. remember it will be named "mmcblk02.img"

Wow since 2007 you actually tired 5 to 6 ROMs? And they look to kiddie for you....wow Did you by chance look in the Development section?
hahaha member since 2007, only used the forums for the past year or so when I got my infuse4g.
a lot of Rom's are so DARK, they're dark and evil looking lol
All I want is a fast rom with great battery life and a light theme.
Which file is right?
So I searched around and found this thread while looking for the community kernel (old I know). But when I'm flashing this kernel, which of the files am I supposed to choose? I see a cert.sf, cert.rsa, manifest.mf, update-binary, updater-script, and then in the other folder a redbend_ua, and zImage...I'm kind of new to this Thanks for the help!
EDIT: I managed to figure out it was the zImage file. But my problem is that when I try to flash that, it takes a little while before it just tells me it failed to verify kernel (something along those lines) and then it doesn't flash it. Am I doing something brutally wrong? I already have CWM installed as per the video linked by the "Super Everything" thread on XDA. Could somebody maybe re-upload this kernel please?
Also, if I were to flash a different ROM, like say Serendipity VII, then do I still need to flash a kernel before hand? Or can I just download the ROM to my sdcard and install it with CWM? Thanks for the help!

I ran Serendipity as my first ROM, and ran it on my cappy also, to include my boys cappys
http://serendipityinfuse.weebly.com/index.html
Just follow the instructions on the above.
But if you want to try another ROM, you will have to go back to stock, well I had but I do on a regular bases...use this below
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1524081
Do not unzip the PDA_Community_Voodoo_Kernel_v8.tar.md5 file. Use Odin and because the file name starts with PDA, load it in the PDA slot and flash.
Bigjoe: So just to confirm, I can go straight from UCKH1 with cwm and rom manager and NO community kernel flashed to serendipity? All I have to do is put the file onto my phone and boot into CWM(mine usually goes into blue then I click reinstall packages and then it goes to green) and then wipe data and cache and then install the file from my sdcard? He isn't very clear in his instructions when he says just flash the rom as one step haha
Also, on the original topic, the file that was uploaded on minus at the to of this thread isn't a PDA tar file. It's the community kernel zip. So I was trying to flash it with sgs kernel flasher. Is that wrong?

Installing CWM Recovery

Hi
I wanted to ask if there's any way to install CWM directly on galaxy R without using ODIN.The problem with my cell is that its micro usb port is damaged and its not detectable on computer. So the only way i can connect my cell is using kies and bluetooth. My Phone is rooted and have a yellow triangle at the beginning and have a custom kernal installed.I want to fix these problems before giving my cell to SSC.Guys i need serious help.i have been googling for three days but didnt find any thing useful. Thanks in Advance
If u download adam77root's cwm 5.x.x.x in your phone, rename it to update.zip and then use install update.zip option in stock recovery, will that work?

I completely agree mate. I don't understand why these well known developers won't support our efficient device. What irks me more is that fact that there's support for those ****ty Xperia phones with their ****ty hardware but not for our device. I think we should try and get some attention. Who knows, one big developer and things could change drastically for us:thumbup::beer:

No, man!!! I just made my work posting the files to consideration... But, maybe... 20 posts (+tweets) from all of you asking to support GalaxyR will be a good job :good:

I completely agree mate. I don't understand why these well known developers won't support our efficient device. What irks me more is that fact that there's support for those ****ty Xperia phones with their ****ty hardware but not for our device. I think we should try and get some attention. Who knows, one big developer and things could change drastically for us:thumbup::beer:

Well, I think Chainfire has work enough... I readed he has some phones "under consideration" to developing support for them in MobileOdin, but all of them sent their dumps and kernels during the last year (2011), so probably, we could conquer GalaxyR support for 2013-Q4 :crying::crying::crying:
Chainfire is one of the most busiest and best developers on xda. He works basically exclusively on flagships just like all the most famous devs do. This is how it is. He has already started to develop on SGS3 and I've read he's even willing to abandon S2 totally due to lack of time. (take a look at the number of just his premium apps on the market.) When he decide to give support then it's really enormous contribution. So I can really understand why he don't have time for other phones. Every little piece of such development takes time.
If I may suggest something, before being punished, don't spam his threads. I really don't think it will make anybody work and another thing different communities can be really very agressive towards such initiatives. Kindly ask him as cooleagle suggested.

Well... I'm totally agree with you. But I must say that I was referring to make some noise on his thread just by writing something like "Please, Chainfire, please, please, please... support to Galaxy R, please, please, please :angel:"

where did i mess up to get this verizon unauthorized message?

i had a stock rom...rooted it, then went to install one of the roms from the website here and the custom kernel...now i keep getting this lame message...detected unauthorized software please take your phone to a verizon store. what am i doing wrong here??
Are you trying to use odin or have you flashed a custom recovery, cm or twrp?
sent from my s-off rezound
I'm guessing you didn't use the right recovery to flash a kernel. What recovery did you use.
Sent from my Synergized vzw SGS3
This really should be in the general discussions not in development. At the leased it should be in a post in the development for the ROM you were trying.
Probably just didn't use Kexec
You didn't read the OP of whatever it was you were doing.
Time to download stock images to odin

He did. Now in the future he will post in the right forum, create a thread with useful info for other people, and not get flamed by some xda members.

Way too many d-bags on XDA. Yes, he posted in the wrong forum, now he knows and I'm sure a mod will move it. Saying it over and over again and being a d-bag while doing it, doesn't help anyone.
OP, as others have stated, you are probably best off going back to a stock rom from Odin and ensuring you have a proper recovery flashed. Then start over with whatever it was you were trying to do.

really, what a DB (probably doesn't know the answer anyway).
I hate it when posters can't just help someone out.
wow!!!
lol wow guys, i didnt check this for a few days and honestly i will probably never post here again. i downloaded ez-recovery as i was told to do in many posts. i installed a kexec recovery...cwm 6.0.1.0. i followed the instructions in the synergy rom page and installed it through cwm. i then downloaded the Imoseyons Lean Kernel and installed it in cwm, rebooted and received the error message.
i have flashed several roms and recoveries over the years with the droid inc, droid inc2. and now the samsung. sorry to start a flame war. i will not post here again. i was simply trying to help report issues to developers.
good day.

Can't say I blame you....

Rooting and dev stuff in layman's term

Disclaimer: I am far from being a dev of any sort, so take this post with a large serving of information reading elsewhere. I am not responsible for anything that happens to you or your phone, good or bad.
**If this thread helped you, simply click the "thank you" button and leave a reply if you wish.**
I had a really hard time entering the rooting and ROMming scene when I first got the phone, but I am now relatively confident in my rooting and ROMming. One of the reasons I had a hard time at first was simply not knowing what anything was or meant. Even after a lot of reading, I still didn't feel like I knew what I was doing (I simply followed instructions and did things to my phone aimlessly). Nonetheless, everything I post here can likely be found in a sticky or in another thread, but probably in more technical terms; I simply want this thread to be informative to a new user.
With that being said, here are a few things to help the truly new-to-the-scene guys (and gals) here:
********************************************************************************************************************************************************************
Definitions:
Root: essentially gives you the ability to access every nook and cranny of your phone and customize lots of stuff.
ROM: kind of the like the operating system on computers; there are many different ones, but find the one suitable for your needs.
imunts: some really cool dude who developed some really cool stuff for our really cool phone; he's done much for us, so he gets his own line here
kernel: the link between your phones software and hardware; comparable to the nervous system of animals by relaying info between the mind and body
flash: basically like installing something on your computer; everything installed or flashed onto electronics has its dangers and risks (and benefits).
recovery: kind of like the "safe mode" on your PC. Incase SHTF, recoveries can be used to save your phone in most cases.
dwitherell: another cool dev who made a really cool ROM by the name of Tweaked
OTA: Over The Air; typically refers to the updates being pushed upon our phones wirelessly from the heavens... or wherever data comes from
Odin: a program used to flash things onto your phone by using your computer; I personally see this as your computer being the brain and your phone being a temporary zombie that takes commands.
CWM (ClockWorkMod Recovery): a custom recovery that must be flashed onto your phone to replace the stock recovery if you want to flash ROMs, backup or restore your phone.

Everything you need (all files and instructions) to go FROM BONE STOCK TO ROMMED WITH TWEAKED can be found within those three links above. Please take the time to read/search a bit before asking questions. It's likely been asked 654354 times before and it will even help you learn a lot in the process.

I have not developed anything for the phones, nor am I taking any credit for making the tutorials or providing the files associated with the above material.
I will update this as I have more time.
Again, if this helped you, just click the "thank you" button or leave a reply. Also, go and let the devs know how much you appreciate their work and time by visiting their threads and thanking them with a reply or something also. Otherwise, we may never get any advances to our software (like I dunno... ICS or something)
Rice923, I'd post links for peeps to go and read. There's some threads already going on that explain to detail how to have the latest greatest phone avalaible ( Tweaked). Seems like there's a batch of people gone through this (modding) and a batch new to the game. Thank you.

Yeah go for it. If anything I'll add the links to the OP. I had a few links to YouTube vids on how to root and how to go back to stock unroot (both videos worked everytime I've used them without fail). I forgot who made he video but proper credit will be given to the Guy who made it.

There was some confusion as to whether or not it would be called 2.3 or 3.0. That post was probably before dwitherell cleared that up.

Just thought I'd give this a bump since there seems to have been a lot of development changes since I've last owned my Charge. Hope this will be of good use for new owners from the holidays. Cheers!
I have a video for rooting FP5, it's in my thread in the development section.
